I'm a Meta insider working on Project Lazarus. We're building an Al that can take over a deceased persons social media accounts and continue making relevant posts as if that person is still alive. This includes age progressed photos, interacting with other peoples content and everything else needed so that person continues on in the digital realm after physical death. We were originally told this would be a service offered to people struggling with the loss of loved ones and people who had missing children. Seemed like a decent idea. Things are getting weird now and I'm having second thoughts about what this is actually going to be used for. The Al is

extremely capable of impersonating people. It doesn't take as much initial input as one might think to train the Al how a certain person interacts with the digital world. It's very convincing. An entire island of people could go missing and with little to no downtime the Al could take over all of their social media and the world wouldn't have a clue that life wasn't just continuing as usual. A lot of the project is becoming more compartmentalized. Things have taken a dark turn it feels like. They've forbidden communication between people working on different things. Something isn't right and I don't know what I should do. I'm not going to post any personally identifiable information but I will try to answer questions that won't expose my role within the project.

Germany's army cannot defend the country – defense minister

Boris Pistorius has claimedthe government neglected the armed forces for decades

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius claimed on Monday that the country’s army isn’t prepared to protect the nation against military aggression. The minister made the remarks during a meeting with fellow members of the Social Democratic Party (SPD).

“We have no armed forces that are capable of defending [the country], that is, capable of defending [it] against an offensive, brutally waged aggressive war,” Pistorius said.

The minister said the Bundeswehr isunderstaffed and under-equipped after decades of neglectfrom the federal government. Pistorius added that Germany would have to invest much more in its military in order to be up to NATO standards.

Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, the commander and highest ranking officer of the German army, told the DPA press agency on Sunday that the €100 billion previously promised by Chancellor Olaf Scholz would not be enough to make the country’s armed forces battle ready. He further added that “the army that I have the duty to lead is more or less bare.”

Further remarks about the Bundeswehr’s lack of combat readiness came from the chairman of the German Armed Forces Association, Colonel Andre Wustner, who claimed in an interview on Sunday to Bild that of the approximately 300 Leopard 2 tanks in stock, “only 30% are currently operational.”

Despite this assessment, Germany has been providing extensive support to Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, sometimes at the expense of its own defense capabilities. Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall, the country's top military contractor, told the Pioneer podcast on Tuesday that the government transferred to Ukraine two state-of-the-art air defense systems that were meant to protect the German capital.

Berlin’s continued weapon shipments to Ukraine have also been met with protest among Germans. Die Linke (Left Party) organized a rally on Saturday calling for Scholz to stop arming Kiev that organizers claimed was attended by around 50,000 people.

New Yorkers slammed Mayor Eric Adams for declaring himself anointed by God, dismissing the separation of church and state, and blaming student shootings on a lack of prayer in schools in a series of bizarre remarks he made during an Interfaith Prayer Breakfast at the New York Public Library on Tuesday.

“Don’t tell me about no separation of church and state,” Adams chided attendees, declaring “State is the body. Church is the heart. You take the heart out of the body, the body dies.”

“When we took prayers out of schools, guns came into schools,” the mayor continued. Explaining that he implemented policies with a “godlike approach,” he promised that homelessness and domestic violence would be gone from the city “if we were bringing our best fight in the ring.”

Adams insisted he “strongly believe[d] in all [his] heart” that “God said, ‘I”m going to take the most broken person and I’m going to elevate him to the place of being the mayor of the most powerful city on the globe’,” joking that “He could have made me mayor of Topeka, Kansas.”

Adams’ comments did not appear to be improvised, with his aide Ingrid Lewis-Martin introducing him to the assembled religious leaders in a similar vein. “Definitely one of the chosen,” Adams was a mayor whose government “doesn’t believe” in separating church and state, she said.

Many of the guests were reportedly appalled. Rabbi Abby Stein told the New York Times on Tuesday that she and “several people sharing her table” had reacted withimmediate horror, repeating “no, no, no, no” as the mayor’s “unhinged and dangerous” remarks washed over them.

New York Civil Liberties Union director Donna Lieberman said she was “speechless” to hear Adams inveighing against one of the nation’s foundational concepts. “As mayor, he’s bound to uphold the Constitution, which provides for separation of church and state,” she pointed out.

But Adams’ spokesman Fabien Levy insisted the mayor’s remarks had been misinterpreted, arguing the former NYPD officer merely meant “the policies we make as an administration are rooted in the mayor’s belief in the creator.”

Türkiye will not be joining unilateral sanctions imposed on Russia by the West over the conflict in Ukraine, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.

Cavusoglu was asked how long Ankara would be able to resist pressure from the US and its allies to put restrictions on Moscow ahead of talks with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting in India’s capital New Delhi.

We don't need to resist anyone, we make our own decisions as a sovereign state. We don't join any unilateral sanctions. We support only those [restrictions that are] introduced with the backing of the UN,” the foreign minister replied, as cited by the media.

“It’s not just about Russia, but we also don’t support sanctions against Iran or any other country,” Cavusoglu pointed out, adding that “no one can put pressure” on Türkiye.

India, which chairs the G20 this year, is hosting the summit of foreign ministers on Wednesday and Thursday.

An Indian foreign ministry official told Reuters on Wednesday that New Delhi didn’t want the conflict in Ukraine to dominate the discussions at the event, but acknowledged that it would likely be among the top issues on the agenda. The host nation’s “intention [is] to continue playing the voice of the Global South [Latin America, Africa, Asia and Oceania] and raising issues pertinent to the region,” the official said.

High-ranking Indian diplomat Vinay Kwatra told reporters that “questions relating to food, energy and fertilizer security, [and] the impact that the conflict has on these economic challenges that we face” will be among those to receive “due focus” in New Delhi.

However, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who is a stalwart supporter of Kiev, insisted that India should use the G20 gathering to “make Russia understand that this war has to finish.” According to Borrell, the “success” of the whole meeting “will be measured in respect to what we will be able to do on that.”

An EU source said separately the EU delegation in New Delhi won’t support the final statement as a result of the summit if it doesn’t include condemnation of Russia’s conduct in Ukraine, Reuters reported.

Russia moves to extend anti-smear legislation

The State Duma will consider amendments to protect volunteer units and other entities aiding Russian forces in Ukraine

Russian lawmakers could expand legislation so that any attempts to discredit personnel and entities involved in the country’s military operation in Ukraine can be punished, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin has announced. Current legislation covers only the discrediting of Russian military and government agencies.

Writing on Telegram on Wednesday, Volodin revealed that the lower house of the Russian parliament would look into the initiative, which he said “would protect everyone who is now risking their lives while ensuring the security of the country and our citizens.”

The Duma official stated that any actions aimed at smearing the Russian Armed Forces or those who assist them, including volunteer formations, was unacceptable.

Perpetrators could face “severe punishment,” including a prison term of up to 15 years, community labor of up to five years, and fines of up to 5 million rubles ($66,500), Volodin added.

The initiative comes after Evgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner private military group, published an open letter to Volodin in late January, asking the speaker to introduce amendments targeting anyone who attempts to discredit volunteers, including ex-convicts, who are involved in Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. At the time, Volodin promised that the State Duma would consider the issue.

To enter into force, the amendments must pass three readings in the State Duma, be approved by the Federation Council – the upper house of parliament – and be signed into law by the president.

Following the launch of Moscow’s military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022, Russian authorities have significantly intensified efforts to combat false information about the nation’s forces. In early March, Russia adopted legislative changes which allow the authorities to impose large fines on those who break the law. Should such activities entail “grave consequences,” offenders could face a prison term of up to 15 years.

Lithuania has called the latest European Union sanctions a “compromise” and wants to expand them

Lithuania will keep pressing Brussels to place restrictions on Russian atomic power and to add the country’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom to the EU blacklist, the president of the Baltic nation, Gitanas Nauseda, stated on Tuesday.

The EU has not imposed sanctions on Rosatom despite repeated requests from Ukraine and the bloc’s most vocal critics of Russia, Lithuania and Poland. The move has been blocked by some EU members that rely on Russian nuclear fuel and technology.

“Due to specific actions by quite specific countries this [placing sanctions on Rosatom] has not been done,” Nauseda said, apparently referring to Hungary, which has four Russian-built nuclear reactors and plans to expand that by two more.

“We will keep fighting and there will be the eleventh and twelfth packages. We will fight, we will not calm down,” vowed the Lithuanian president.

Meanwhile,Russian nuclear fuel and technology sales soared last yearas imports by EU countries climbed to the highest level in three years, according to recent data compiled by the UK’s Royal United Services Institute.

The figures show NATO members including Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia continued to buy reactor fuel from the sanctioned country last year. These nations are heavily reliant on nuclear know-how from Russia to run the power plants that produce up to half of the electricity they need.

Nauseda said the latest round of sanctions on Russia was a “compromise” like the previous nine packages, and that he was not “particularly happy” about it.

The tenth package of EU sanctions was adopted on Saturday. It targets, among other things, Western exports of advanced technologies and imports of high-revenue goods from Russia, and has a total value of €12.7 billion ($13.4 billion).

Washington reportedly plans to halt export licenses to the tech company

The US government is considering annulling existing licenses for American firms to export items to Chinese telecom giant Huawei Technologies, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing its sources.

According to the report, the measure could be viewed as broader tightening of technology trade on national security grounds.

“The policy that had allowed exports to Huawei, notwithstanding the entity listing, is being wound down,” an unnamed former senior security official familiar with the matter was quoted as saying. “The White House is now telling Commerce, ‘Cut off the 4G sales, the time has come to do more pain to Huawei, to try to finish their demise,’” he reportedly stated.

Huawei has been subjected to American export restrictions on items for 5G and other technologies for several years, but the US Department of Commerce has granted licenses for some American companies to sell certain goods and technologies to the Chinese firm.

However recently, Washington indicated that it was considering not granting any such export licenses to companies such as Qualcomm and Intel, which produce chips needed for smartphones and other devices.

Huawei was placed on a US trade blacklist in 2019, with most American suppliers barred from shipping goods and technology to the company unless they were granted licenses. The measure is aimed at cutting off the Chinese company’s ability to buy or design the semiconductor chips that power most of its products.

Tensions between the US and China, the world’s two largest economies, have been on the rise as they compete for domination in key technology areas, including semiconductors. In October, the Biden administration unveiled sweeping restrictions on China’s ability to buy semiconductors and chip-making equipment, placing the country’s companies on a list for further scrutiny.

The displays of destroyed Russian tanks were a joint initiative of the defense ministries of Ukraine and the Baltic nations

Actions in support of Kiev in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuaniawent off script over the weekend as locals started bringing flowers to the destroyed Russian tanksthat had been put on display in the three nations’ capitals to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine.

A video released by the video news agency Ruptly shows small bouquets of flowers lying on the ground near a burnt-out Russian tank in the Latvian capital of Riga. The destroyed equipment was put on display at one of the central city squares to mark the anniversary of the ongoing conflict between Moscow and Kiev, which started in late February 2022.

The tank is cordoned off by a fence featuring a placard explaining that it was destroyed in a “battle,” where, according to the text, Russian forces lost nine tanks and other combat vehicles and some 50 Russian soldiers were killed. Nothing is said about the Ukrainian casualties.

Carnations can be seen lying near the tank and placard. These flowers are often used in Russia and the former Soviet states to honor the dead, a tradition particularly associated with those who lost their lives in World War II.

Another video that surfaced on social media shows a young man purportedly bringing flowers to the destroyed Russian tank exhibited in the Estonian capital of Tallinn. A uniformed man standing nearby then removes the flowers following a brief verbal spat with the young man.

The authorities in the Baltic states did not appreciate the idea of people bringing flowers to what they called tanks that once belonged to the “aggressor’s military.” On Tuesday, one person in Tallinn was fined after refusing to remove the flowers as demanded by the police, according to the local media.

In Vilnius, Vice Mayor Valdas Benkunskas went as far as to bring a waste container for “candles, carnations and other symbols of honoring the occupiers.”

“As a vice mayor responsible for the city’s waste management … I know very well what it is and where it has to go,” Benkunskas wrotein a Facebook post on Tuesday, explaining the move and adding that anyone who “gets nostalgic about the days under the Russian [rule]” should place candles and carnations there.

Displaying destroyed Russian tanks in the Baltic States was ajoint initiative by the defense ministries of Ukraine and the three Baltic nations. Ukrainian Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov “thanked” his “colleagues”on Twitter for “sincere support and effective cooperation.”

The Estonian Defense Ministry now plans for the destroyed tanks to be taken on a “tour” of several cities despite opposition from some local authorities, who havecalled it a political stuntand a dangerous move capable of leading to “confrontation.”

Whatever caused the enigmatic symptoms dubbed the ‘Havana Syndrome’, the US intelligence community has concluded that it was not a secret weapon operated by a foreign adversary, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing officials familiar with the report.

The final report on the issue “shatters a long-disputed theory” that some kind of Russian energy weapon was to blame, according to the Post. However, some State Department officials continue to believe that “a foreign government, probably Russia,” is to blame, pointing out that the number of reported cases dropped after the conflict in Ukraine escalated last February.

According to the outlet, a total of seven intelligence agencies took part in the investigation. A special group of seasoned analysts, led by a senior CIA officer, “devoted extraordinary resources” to find the possible cause, reviewing around 1,000 cases of what Washington hasdubbed “anomalous health incidents” (AHI).They ended up finding “no pattern to connect reported cases to a potential cause,” said the Post.

Five of the agencies involved said it was “very unlikely” a foreign actor was responsible. One agency said it was just “unlikely,” while one agency abstained. However, none of them disagreed with the conclusion that “a foreign actor did not cause the symptoms,” one official told the paper.

For years, hundreds of American diplomats, intelligence officers and other personnel at embassies on every continent have reported headaches, nausea, ringing in the ears, and even brain damage caused by strange sounds. The term ‘Havana Syndrome’ was coined because the first reports came from the recently-reopened US embassy in Cuba in 2016. Some of those affected argued they were targets of a deliberate attack, by Russia or some other adversary, using sonic weapons. The final report contradicts that claim “in nearly every respect,” the Post’s sources said.

Intelligence analysts found “no pattern or common set of conditions that could link individual cases” and “no evidence, including forensic information or geolocation data,” that would suggest the use of directed energy, including radio waves and ultrasonic beams. There was no evidence even in places where the US had the “total ability to monitor the environment” for malicious activity.

“There was nothing,” one of the officials told the Post.

Moreover, none of the agencies considered it likely that Russia or China had an energy weapon capable of causing the symptoms. Medical experts could not attribute the described symptoms to any external factor “separate from a preexisting condition or environmental factors,” the report found.

The directed-energy hypothesis was boosted by a 2020 report of a National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine panel, which suggested a “directed, pulsed radio frequency (RF) energy” was to blame. However, other experts quickly cast doubt on that theory.

In September 2021, BuzzFeed published a declassified report by a State Department advisory group called JASON, which concluded it was “highly unlikely” the reported symptoms were caused by microwaves or ultrasound beams. The report, authored in November 2018, ended up being classified and not shared with the NASEM panel.

JASON’s report said the most likely culprit in a third of the reported Havana cases were local crickets. This matched the 2017 conclusion of experts in California, who pinpointed the sound released by the Associated Press as the mating call of the male Indies short-tailed cricket.

In the meantime, Congress has established a fund to compensate those who reported symptoms of the ‘Havana Syndrome’, and a compensation package reportedly in the range of over $100,000 was announced last summer.

As she herself boasted in a Spectator article the same month: ‘Hancock shared far more than I could ever have imagined. I have viewed thousands and thousands of sensitive government communications relating to the pandemic, a fascinating and very illuminating exercise. I was not paid a penny for this work, but the time I spent on the project - almost a year - was richly rewarding in other ways.’

And today, as the material was splurged over seven pages of the Daily Telegraph, Miss Oakeshott admitted there was ‘no secret’ about how all the sensitive material came into her possession.

To make matters more toxic, the Telegraph’s coverage of the WhatsApp messages casts Mr Hancock in a less favourable light than his own version of events in his book.

It left the blindsided ex-Cabinet minister seething at her betrayal yesterday, reportedly vowing to sue Miss Oakeshott for breaching his confidences. Allies of Mr Hancock accused her of breaking a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to sell ‘stolen’ messages which had been sent to her ‘for one purpose only’, to be part of her work on his diaries. ‘Her behaviour is outrageous,’ said one.

But privately many Tory MPs and political journalists expressed astonishment that Mr Hancock had entrusted millions of words of his private correspondence to Miss Oakeshott, of all people.

One political journalist said: ‘The man needs his head testing to have gone near Oakeshott with a flaming trebuchet, let alone a bargepole.’

For a while Mr Hancock may belatedly be regretting his association with Miss Oakeshott, it is not the first time she has been at the centre of a controversy over a source placing their trust in her.

When she was political editor of The Sunday Times, in 2011, she persuaded Vicky Pryce - the former wife of Liberal Democrat minister Chris Huhne - to reveal how she had conspired with him to avoid a motoring fine for a speeding offence.

As a result of the story - and the newspaper and Miss Oakeshott giving up correspondence which exposed their source - Miss Pryce ended up in jail, as did her ex-husband.

Despite the convention that journalists should always do their utmost to protect their sources, Miss Oakeshott stood by her decision to hand over the material, saying she had warned Miss Pryce of the legal risks and insisting it was ‘not my job to provide expert criminal advice’.

Lord Bethell, a former ministerial colleague of Mr Hancock, told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘I think Isabel is a terrific journalist. She’s not a very good friend.’

Westminster-born mother-of-three Miss Oakeshott, 48, began her career on local newspapers and worked her way up to The Sunday Times and the Daily Mail, winning several journalism awards for her scoops.

Neither she nor Biteback Publishing - which published Mr Hancock’s pandemic book - have commented on the claim she broke a non-disclosure agreement.

The journalist who leaked more than 100,000 of Matt Hancock's WhatsApp messages to the Telegraph has claimed the former Health Secretary sent her a 'menacing message' when he heard what she had done.

Isabel Oakeshott was given access to the messages while ghostwriting Mr Hancock's book Pandemic Diaries - but said she felt compelled to share them with the paper due to information that is in the 'public interest' being left out of the memoir.

Ms Oakeshott last night revealed she did not give the ex-minister advance notice of the leak, saying he found out 'late [Tuesday] Night'.

Writing in The Telegraph, she described the message as 'threatening' as she launched a fresh defence of her actions by focussing on the pandemic's impact on children.

On Wednesday she told Piers Morgan Uncensored on TalkTV: 'I received a somewhat menacing message at 1.20 in the morning.'

But when pushed to reveal what the contents of that message was, Ms Oakeshott refused to do so, saying: 'You can easily summise whether Matt Hancock is my friend at this point.'

She added: 'I think he is extremely troubled about how to respond to this, but this is not about him.'

Mr Hancock is said to be 'considering all options' in response to the leak.

'She's broken a legal NDA. Her behaviour is outrageous,' a source close to the former health secretary said.

Representatives for Mr Hancock have been contacted for comment.

Yesterday Ms Oakeshott confirmed that she had broken an non-disclosure agreement with Mr Hancock - although she argued that her action was overwhelmingly in the 'public interest'.

She wrote: 'One way or another, a great deal of material that is overwhelmingly in the public interest and pertinent to the public inquiry was suppressed [from Pandemic Diaries].'

The claim of the 'menacing message' came as the Telegraph published further revelations from the WhatsApps on Wednesday night.

They detailed comments made by the then-Health Secretary to former Education Secretary Sir Gavin Williamson, in which he branded teaching unions 'absolute a**es'.

Sir Gavin is said to have replied: 'They really really do just hate work'.

Following the messages' publication, the former education secretary tweeted that his comments had been 'about some unions and not teachers'.

He added: 'I have the utmost respect for teachers who work tirelessly to support students.

'During the pandemic, teachers went above and beyond during very challenging times and very much continue to do so.'

Further details about the government's decision-making over school closures were also released on Wednesday night.

A spokesman for Mr Hancock said: 'Tonight's [Wednesday's] revelations are exactly like last night's. These are partial accounts, obviously spun with an agenda.

'They show Matt was focused throughout on saving lives. The right place for a full assessment is the (official Covid) inquiry.'

Leaked messages published on Tuesday night seemingly showed Mr Hancock rejected the Chief Medical Officer's call to test all residents going into English care homes for Covid at the start of the pandemic.

For a few months, I have been speculating there were deeper ties to the CIA or NSA for Rodney Joffe. There were a number of indications of that, which I have covered.

Today, the government produced records responsive to my FOIA. We sued the Department of Defense for records, and now we have them.

One of the first emails that stood out was sent from Rodney Joffe to Keromytis, noting:

This is confirmation that Joffe worked for the NSA in some capacity.

It’s important not to make leaps of speculation, but there are many possible implications to this. We know the NSA is a corner piece to much of the DNC hack story. Was Joffe involved? We don’t know.

As I have repeatedly reported, there has been a source who alleges Joffe played a key role in the attribution for the DNC hack. Whether that was was for the NSA or FBI (where he also has a lot of contact) or to DARPA/DHS/others, is unclear.

We also have confirmation that Joffe was in contact with Schneck and someone that appears to work for Army Cyber Command [might be time for me to kick the tires on my FOIA’s there].

There are also several references to “APT” which is not dispositive of Russian hackers. It could be, but it’s just unclear. APT is a general term.

It is frustrating to see most punditry miss the importance of the people who operate as shadows in control. In a similar way that most avoid noticing the importance of Mary McCord in the operations to remove President Trump, Lisa Monaco operates in the background of current Main Justice events, and yet no one is paying attention.

Current Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco was Barack Obama’s former homeland security advisor and former legal counsel in the White House. Monaco was the tip of the spear in using political activism under the guise of ‘homeland security’ to target political opposition. That type of political targeting is her specialty. Lisa Monaco is now the Deputy Attorney General of the United States.

As a direct result of her skill set in combination with her current position, it is a guarantee that Deputy AG Lisa Monaco authored the DOJ targeting memorandum that AG Merrick Garland eventually signed and sent to the FBI that became explosive around the issue of the FBI targeting parents at school board meetings. Again, weaponizing internal political targeting under the guise of homeland security concerns is what Monaco is specifically famous for doing.

You might remember, even before becoming President Obama’s key Homeland Security Adviser, Lisa Monaco was the head of the DOJ National Security Division. You might also remember the DOJ-NSD was at the center of the “small group” collaboration between the DOJ-NSD and the FBI Counterintelligence unit. Remember, it was the DOJ-NSD (via Sally Yates) who would not allow OIG Oversight.

During the 2015/2016 presidential election Lisa Monaco was one of the key WH figures doing the unmasking of raw intelligence provided by the “small group” collaborators (with Susan Rice, Samantha Power, and Ben Rhodes). Remember all the unmasking from the user account of Samantha Power?

Yeah, that data point disappeared with Power just saying, “it wasn’t me.”

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco was also one of the key policy strategists, heck, she was the architect, who utilized the compartmentalization of intelligence to hide the fingerprints of collaboration. This was the issue that initially stymied HSPCI Devin Nunes.

In June of 2021, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced that Deputy AG Lisa Monaco would lead a “whole of government” effort to label any political opposition to the Biden regime as “domestic terrorists”.

To facilitate that objective, Garland announced that DAG Monaco was reconstituting “the domestic terrorism executive committee,” an investigative agency process used in the aftermath of the Oklahoma bombing in 1995. Additionally, Garland noted the January 6th Capitol Hill protest was the current equivalent of the 1995 bombing that killed 168 people and injured 680. The Domestic Terrorism committee, led by Monaco, would focus its efforts on ensuring the center of the U.S. government is never again put at risk.

The overarching Lawfare framework, the issues cited by the Senate today, was created by President Obama’s former White House Legal Counsel and current U.S. Asst Attorney General Lisa Monaco. DAG Lisa Monaco is also the connection between the DOJ targeting efforts of the J6 members, and the bridge to Special Counsel Jack Smith.

Just as Andrew Weissmann was really the control operative behind Robert Mueller, so too is Lisa Monaco the control operative behind AG Merrick Garland.

President Biden laughed off a claim from Rep. that he 'killed' a mother's two sons who overdosed on fentanyl in 2020 because they died during the Trump administration.

Greene on Tuesday claimed that the 18 and 20-year-old sons of Rebecca Kiessling, Kyler and Caleb, died due to Biden administration policies, tweeting a clip of the distraught mother testifying before the House Homeland Security Committee.

Kiessling said her sons had thought they were taking a normal pain pill, but it was laced with fentanyl.

But Biden said on Wednesday night, with a chuckle, that the fentanyl they took 'came during the last administration.'

The president criticized the Georgia Republican, and claimed was going to drive people out of the in droves in an address at the yearly House Democratic retreat in Baltimore.

He also told to drive home how much they had accomplished legislatively in the last and told them to continue to try to work across the aisle with those who are not 'MAGA Republicans.'

'Folks, you know how much we've gotten done. A lot of the country still doesn't know,' he said.

Touting the bipartisan infrastructure bill passed last Congress, he said: 'If we did nothing, nothing but implement what we've already passed and let people know we did it for them, we win.'

But Biden said there was still 'unfinished business,' citing immigration reform, police reform and gun control.

'MAGA Republicans are not gonna get on board for most of these things. That leaves a lot of Republicans that are still left. Republicans can help make a significant majority in some of these things,' he said.

'A little bit more of - few more Marjorie Taylor Greene you're gonna have a lot of Republicans running our way,' Biden said. 'Isn't she amazing?'

'She was very specific recently saying a mom, a mother who lost two kids to fentanyl, that I killed her sons. Well the interesting thing is that fentanyl they took came during the last administration,' Biden said with a chuckle.

'I don't wanna get started,' he added.

'Listen to this mother, who lost two children to fentanyl poisoning, tell the truth about both of her son's murders because of the Biden administrations refusal to secure our border and stop the Cartel's from murdering Americans everyday by Chinese fentanyl,' Greene tweeted.

But the sons died on July 29, 2020, Kiessling said, more than five months before Donald Trump left office.

US deaths from fentanyl have been on the rise since the 2010s, spiking during Covid-19 and continuing to rise under the Biden presidency.

In 2022 107,000 Americans died of overdose.

Biden also touched on his meeting with Speaker Kevin McCarthy over the debt ceiling, calling it a 'decent meeting' and saying McCarthy 'seems like a decent guy.'

'He says he wont raise taxes on anyone,' Biden said. 'He just wants to cut programs. So I said let's lay out our budgets.'

'I lay out mine on March 9 he should do the same thing.

'We should sit down, and it would be interesting to see what they want to cut and what their numbers add up to.'

The GOP has promised to release a budget in April.

'They're sure not acting like the party that cares about fiscal responsibility,' Biden said of Republicans.

'Under my predecessor congres voted three times to pay America's bills. They didn't throw country into crisis then, why should they do it now?'

In January Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned the country had reached its $31.4 trillion debt ceiling - the maximum amount of money it was allowed to spend to fund government programs and pay debts.

McCarthy and Biden are now at loggerheads as Republicans insist on budget cuts in exchange for raising the debt ceiling. President Biden is expected to release his budget next week.

A metal detectorist was in for a surprise after stumbling across a bronze Celtic artefact of a nude figure with a hinged phallus in its right hand.

Paul Shepheard, 69, was at a detector rally in Haconby, Lincolnshire in 2022 when he made the find in a stubble field.

The retired processing consultant, from March, Cambridgeshire, said his wife Joanne had just found a medieval penny when he got a signal on his new XP Deus II metal detector.

He said he dug 10 inches into the earth and initially thought he had found a large steel split pin commonly used to retain wheels on farm carts.

But when he looked more closely, he saw the outline of a face and realised it was more significant.

The artefact is a bronze nude figure with an oversized phallus, which it holds in its right hand, which is hinged for movement.

The tiny item, which is 2.1 inches (5.5cm) high and 0.4 inches (1.2cm) wide, is to be sold at auction at Noonans in Mayfair, London, where it has a pre-auction estimate of £800 to £1,200 ($958 to $1,438).

Nigel Mills, consultant (coins and artefacts) at Noonans, said: 'Dating to the Celtic period from the 1st century AD, this is a representation of a fertility god, probably based on the Roman god Mercury as he is holding a purse in his left hand.

'This male figure with its hinged oversized phallus would have had symbolic powers of good luck and warding off evil spirits and may have served as a locking mechanism, as a buckle to hold a belt and scabbard for a sword.

'There is nothing quite like it, I am hoping it will attract a lot of attention.'

The situation in Russia’s Bryansk Region is under the control of law enforcement agencies, the Federal Security Service (FSB) reported on Thursday after an attack by Ukrainian saboteurs. The agency also confirmed earlier reports that one local resident had been killed in the attack and that an 11-year-old child had received a gunshot wound.

Bryansk officials have since added that a second man had also been killed by the saboteurs in the village of Lyubechane.

The FSB stated that the area is currently being checked and inspected and that a large number of explosive devices of various types had been found. Bomb squads are working on the scene to disarm the explosives.

On Thursday morning a number of Ukrainian saboteurs crossed the Russian border and launched raids on Lyubechane and Sushany. The gunmen attacked a civilian vehicle, killing one man and injuring a child. At the same time, Bryansk Governor Aleksandr Bogomaz also reported artillery and mortar strikes in the area.

The FSB along with the Russian Defense Ministry have since reported that they are taking measures to eliminate the attackers.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has described theincident as a “terrorist attack,”identifying the people responsible for such acts as “neo-Nazis and terrorists.” He also suggested whoever was behind Thursday’s attackmay have also been responsible for the assassinationof Russian journalist Darya Dugina, whose car was blown up near Moscow in August.

Russia’s regions bordering Ukraine have been repeatedly attacked by Kiev’s forces in recent months. On Thursday, the governors of Bryansk and Kursk regions reported that Ukrainian troops had shelled local villages. Kursk officials confirmed that one person was killed in the attack.

Gunmen attacked civilians after crossing the border, the Russian president said

President Vladimir Putin has described as a “terrorist attack” an incident in Russia’s Bryansk Region that involved Ukrainian saboteurs. The statement came after the regional governor and national security service reported a cross-border raid targeting two settlements earlier on Thursday.

Gunmen “infiltrated the border area and opened fire at civilians. They could see the vehicle was civilian, that civilians were inside, children… and opened fire,” the Russian leader said.

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, earlier told journalists that “measures are being taken to destroy these terrorists.” He added that Moscow will continue “to draw the attention of the global public to the terrorist attacks that these people conduct.”

Russian officials accused Kiev of using terrorist tactics after a powerful explosion at the Crimean Bridge in October killed three civilians and damaged the structure. Putin said at the time that it was the latest Ukrainian attack against crucial Russian infrastructure. The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) accused Ukrainian military intelligence of executing the bombing.

Another high-profile incident which Russian investigators pinned on the Ukrainian government was the August assassination of Darya Dugina, whose car was blown up near Moscow. Dugina was a political activist and the daughter of philosopher Aleksandr Dugin, whom Western media have described as a prominent Russian nationalist.

AI ‘stresses me out’ – Musk

The head of Tesla called the company a leader in “real world AI” but urged more regulation

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has described his company as a global leader in “real world AI,”but confessed that he felt “stressed out” by artificial intelligence as he called for tougher oversight.

At a presentation to investors at the Gigafactory in Texas on Wednesday, Tesla executives covered various aspects of electric car production and operation, and shared their assessment of how the world could undergo a transition to a sustainable energy mix.

Among other things, Musk presented an update on Tesla’s Optimus project for humanoid robots. A video shown to the audience featured several bots which appeared to be in the process of assembling another one of their kind.

“We are the most advanced in real world AI,”the billionaire CEO remarked. “I don’t think there is anyone even close to Tesla on solving real world AI.”

Optimus technology derives from Tesla’s development of self-driving capability, Musk explained, adding that “a car is a robot on wheels, and this is a robot on legs.”

During a Q&A session at the end of the event, Musk took a more pessimistic tone when asked how “generative AI… could help you make cars.” The term refers to a type of neural network which generates content on request, from images to industrial designs.

Musk replied that he does not see that type of assistance being used by Tesla anytime soon. At the point where algorithms could make better cars, “none of us would be working, we’ll just chill out,” he mused, adding that he was concerned by “AI stuff.”

“I think we need some kind of regulatory authority overseeing AI development and making sure it’s operating within the public interest.It’s quite a dangerous technology, and I fear I may have done some things to accelerate it,” the entrepreneur stated.

Musk has long expressed concern that AI technology could run amok, potentially ending human civilization. While it certainly offers major benefits,significant caution should be exercised, he argued. “This one stresses me out,” Musk admitted, before the Q&A session wrapped up.

Fire destroys 150-year-old Sydney church hall

A major blaze caused the collapse of a 150-year-old church hall in western Sydney, with dozens of firefighters battling to control the flames.

The 150-year-old iron and weatherboard building was on the grounds of the St Thomas' Anglican Church in Auburn and caught alight sometime before 3pm on Thursday.

About 50 firefighters and 16 trucks rushed to the hall where they found it fully alight.

Firefighters entered the building with breathing equipment searching for people, but were quickly forced to exit because of the intensity of the heat.

The weatherboard and iron building collapsed soon after 3pm.

It had been a monumental job to bring the intense blaze under control, Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry told AAP.

"It took about an hour to get the bulk of the fire contained. It's been a super effort,'' he said.

A number of buildings had been at risk of catching alight, including two nearby unit blocks and two neighbouring granny flats.

A home close to the church hall suffered heat damage and nearby residents have been evacuated as the area is assessed for smoke and carbon monoxide.

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.

No injuries have been reported.
