QUOTE

Yesterday was quite possibly one of the best days ever. Yes. EVER. I came home on Saturday night, had a wonderful home-cooked meal (I've missed these too much at Cambridge!) followed by a Christmas fruit cake my parents bought during a weekend excursion to Cotswold. Next morning (Sunday - the best day!), I woke up to a breakfast of french toast with an assortment of toppings and fruit (almond butter, honey, peanut butter, maple syrup, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, banana and kiwi!). Moments after scarfing down the most delicious breakfast I've had in a long time, we took the bus to Hyde Park Corner. It was time for winter wonderland (located in Hyde Park, London)! We went ice skating (my first time outdoors), went on several rides and thoroughly enjoyed the festive fun atmosphere! Photos from the winter wonderland:

Reference pic from area across from the Q camra position for the RED BUS pic. Showed CHRISTMAS LIGHT DECORATIONS over COVENTRY Street toward the corner with WHITCOMB Street which was captured in background of Q pic. This open sauce appears to have been posted about a week or so after the photos in the blog had been taken. That would be about a year before the RED BUS pic was taken in winter of 2013. The lights look similiar to those in other images from the winters 2012 and 2013.

Views of Coventry Street near the scene of the RED BUS pic. This vid provides images for reference purposes. The overhead decorations are clearly shown with their attachment points on the the building of both sides of the street. Views include looking toward Piccadilly Circus and looking back toward Whitcomb Street. Night darkness which is good for the lights but far from a match of daylight conditions in the Q pic. Nonetheless, the volume of pedestrian traffic in this sauce does resemble that which is visible within the frames of the Q pic. Useful on this basis and possibly moar as the dig continues.

While the full-on hoarding and shrouding does not appear to be in place in this recording, there appears to be some on-the-ground hoarding around Communications House where the McDonald's entrance would have been. This would have been part of the early staging for the re-development of that building which took place AFTER the time of the Q pic aka RED BUS.

The preliminary hoarding is encircles in the marked up caps. Also note the lack of shrouding on the upper floors of this building on the night of 27-MAR-2014.

Was the riverwall adboard captured in this recording of 20-DEC-2013-P?

To orientate, cross-ref with the 22-DEC-2013-T pic that showed the board on the wall. Note the gate. Note the tree and signposts at kerbside. Have adjusted the exposure a bit for the closeup insets. Please examine the original as well.

There does appear to be white rectangular shaped flat object in the position that would be occupied by the adboard. Not certain.

This recording was made before 20-DEC and by the tree coverage it does look like a DECEMBER scene. Meanwhile the board was captured - with certainty - in the other sauce on 22-DEC.

Compare with the Q pic also.

Here is a possible way to date more precisely the VLOGGER's video from 19-DEC-2013-P. Can someone reliably decipher the text on the ticket in this pic, taken on a night the vlogger returned to ride MW coaster.

The top part reads, WINTER WONDERLAND 13/14.

And above the barcode are two lines of numbers, possibly date/time issued and date/time expired. Here is my attempt to read the middle lines, with hyphens for placeholders of text I find impossible to figure (but others might do better).

Line 1 looks like, 04 / 12 / 13 21:–

Line 2 looks like, 0- / 01 / 14

The bottom part reads, NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES. The vlogger may have purchased early with reservations for some rides or attractions. IDK. Earlier in the vid he and buddy stopped at a ticket booth, I think. They also showed off their tickets while standing at the booth and also while in the Bavarian Village. Those images of tickets were worse than this one which was at least stable on the countertop just before the vendor snapped it up to redeem.

Surge in British desire to emigrate – reports

Interest in emigration is up by 1,000% as UK taxes and prices rise, lawyers and financial advisers say

A dramatic rise in the cost of living has prompted many Britons to consider leaving the UK, according to professionals catering to aspiring expats. Google searches for moving abroad were up by 1,000% in April, with the US, Canada, and Australia the top three desired destinations.

The Telegraph first reported the alarming trend Friday, attributing the desire to emigrate to “the cost of living squeeze, as soaring energy prices and rising inflation ravage household budgets.”

The outlet blamed a combination of rising taxes and inflation, which officially hit 7% in March. The Bank of England has warned it could reach 10% this year. There has also been a spike in the cost of energy and household goods.

“People are paying much more for everything and it’s a culmination of bad news. It makes people get into the mindset of needing a new start and they know they will have a much cheaper life abroad,” said Jason Porter of Blevins Franks, a firm that provides financial advice to British expatriates across Europe.

Research by London migration lawyers at Reiss Edwards showed a thousand-fold spike in searches for how to move abroad. Inquiries about Australian visas alone were up 670%, the firm said.

“The British public has been faced with a gradual rise in the cost of living since the pandemic, which has been amplified enormously in the last couple of months,” Amar Ali of Reiss Edwards told the Daily Mail, when the outlet inquired about the report.

The US tops the list of countries where Britons would like to emigrate, followed by Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Non-English speaking Spain and France are also on the top six list due to their lower cost of living.

A Livingcost analysis cited by the Daily Mail says the average after-tax salary in the US can cover two months’ worth of living expenses, compared to 1.6 in the UK. While the Eurozone inflation was 7.5% in April, it still costs 6% less to live in France, while Spain is more than 18% cheaper, according to aggregator Numbeo.

The HOT DONUTS & MILKSHAKES stall included a flat sign on the roof peak, a bar that protruded beyond its birdsbeak, and a swinging sign with a milkshake depicted upon its face; a string of light bulbs was strung fairly loosely from either flank of the building up to the bar above the swinging sign. In this vidcap these features are captured - frozen. However, in the original vid the movement of these items can be discerned.

As a set of related items, this formed an obstacle which varied in effect as recorded from across the way on the far side of the platform at Power Tower. And this aligned with the banner sign on the X-MAS GRIL rooftop.

There are other sauces that depict this set of items, with each item in better relief in one vid but not the other. While there appeared to be changes in the bulbs on the banner sign, and in some instances this is unmistable, there was also this varyingn obstacle which at times caught the light - whether that was sunlight or flashing park lights or steady bright lights all of which played a bit of havoc with the different camera recordings, depending on movement of the camera and settings of the lense. So a mixed bag produced mixed results.

Even in this 26-NOV-2013-P, which likely was recorded the day before, the XG lights on both eaves and banner were lit up, mostly, and due to the sunlight produced mixed results. However, the view we have used for a template for the charts is a good depiction of what, at base, can be reckoned in the list of sauces we've gathered and examined here.

Will post moar while the vid on this topic is being put together and rendered.

'Sounded like thunder' Car crashes into the front of Boris Johnson's £1.2m house

A car crashed into a £1.2 million house owned by Boris Johnson with neighbours describing a noise like "thunder".

Police were called to the south London property owned by the Prime Minister after the Vauxhall Astra ploughed into the front garden at around 1am on Monday. The smash caused damage to a wall, hedge and tree.

Neighbours described being woken by a "loud bang" and a sound like "thunder".

The incident prompted speculation on the street in Camberwell about whether the vehicle careering into the front of the three-storey house was deliberate, but police said no offences were identified.

One neighbour told The Times: “I think it was deliberate. I mean why else this particular house?”

But other neighbours said the road had recently been used by speeding drivers as a rat run.

Mr Johnson bought the four-bed house with his wife Carrie Johnson for £1.2m in July 2019, according to Land Registry documents.

The couple took out a buy-to-let mortgage and the property is currently being renovated.

One neighbour said the house had been targeted by protesters in recent weeks, with several cars previously pulling up outside and blasting out Russian music with their windows down.

Note the presence of the motorbike parking up the street near the entrance to the Tattershall Castle. The parking area is in the new meridian between cycle-only lane and vehicular traffic lanes. That area is clearly within the camera frame of the Q pics of the JUNCTION. No bike parking there; meanwhile the motorbike parking area was on the Whitehall Gardens side of Victoria Embankment prior to the construction of the cycle only lanes on the riverside.

See pics that show these areas both in 2012 and in 2015 for comparison with 2016. Of course, you can't help but notice that the Tattershall Castle's funnel went from white on top to blue on top.

The damning truth about Covid deaths, says FREDERICK FORSYTH

THE World Health Organisation in Geneva has just published an intriguing list. The total death tolls from Covid nation by nation across the continent of Europe, per million inhabitants.

By Frederick Forsyth

22:01, Thu, May 12, 2022 | UPDATED: 22:58, Thu, May 12, 2022

No surprise to me, the bottom of the list was Sweden, the one that refused to be panicked into mass lockdowns or the hundred other life-wrecking miseries inflicted on us by the Johnson government.

What the WHO did not include in its research was the simple truth that Sweden refused to close down thousands of bars, cafes, restaurants and pubs; nor close theatres, cinemas or any form of entertainment.

The Swedes could continue to walk the streets, relax in the parks, swim in the pools.

Over here Boris Johnson, the obedient servant of blithering idiots from the SAGE Committee – now duly knighted as per the British tradition with public sector failures – did exactly as they told him and told the rest of us he was “following the science”.

Lives were destroyed, careers wrecked, small businesses that young people had toiled to set up never recovered, shops with no customers went bankrupt and the entire civil service learnt the new lifestyle of “working from home” – meaning doing virtually no work at all. You may have noticed they still are.

On the altar of Covid our prized NHS was broken, as evidenced by the hundreds of thousands of people needing attention who were rebuffed as Covid became the only priority.

The figures over here have still to emerge to reveal how many have died prematurely for lack of attention from an entire medical profession on work-to-rule. More than the real Covid death toll? Probably.

Today we are told at last that Covid need not be exaggerated and, with vaccination, we can learn to live with it as we do with annual flu and the common cold – both of which were once lethal.

But the heritage of the Government’s panic-stricken reaction to Covid is still with us in the crashed economy, the spiralling charges, taxes and prices.

The tales of misery among the very old and poor are at every hand.

Officialdom and government tell us it is all very sad but it simply had to be done or the half-million-dead predictions of the SAGE idiots would have come to pass.

But the figures from Geneva and Stockholm reveal this is all one big lie, or why are the Swedish figures the lowest in Europe?

Analyse a bit more and it becomes clear that everything we have suffered, are suffering and will continue to suffer for a long time yet derive from that single panic-stricken misjudgement – how to handle Covid.

It was far away the biggest single governmental cock-up of my lifetime. In a fair society those behind it – politicians, bureaucrats and pseudo-scientists – should never work again on the taxpayer’s payroll.

Tory MP arrested for rape and sexual assault - Met launches investigation

The politician is thought to still be in custody after being accused of the abhorrent offences. A Met police spokesperson said: "In January 2020, the Met received a report relating to alleged sexual offences having been committed between 2002 and 2009

"The offences are alleged to have occurred in London.

"An investigation is ongoing, led by officers from Central Specialist Crime.

"A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in public office.

"He remains in custody."

The alleged offences were committed between 2002 and 2009 in London.

The Met Police are understood to have first received a report of the allegations in January 2020 and have been investigating ever since.

The MP has been asked to stay away from Parliament by the Tory whips office, which is in charge of Parliamentary discipline.

A spokeswoman said: "The Chief Whip has asked that the MP concerned does not attend the Parliamentary Estate while an investigation is ongoing.

"Until the conclusion of the investigation we will not be commenting further."

Earlier this month it was claimed that 56 MPs out of the 650 who sit in the House of Commons are under investigation by Parliament's Independent Complaints and Grievance Scheme for allegations of sexual assault.

Westminister is under pressure to shape up its image after the repeated claims of misconduct.

The latest allegations have been revealed on the same day Prime Minister Boris Johnson told his ministers to focus on cracking down on crime.

Addressing the Cabinet this morning, he told his top team he wanted to ensure "that we give everybody the confidence that we are on their side when it comes to the law and their experiences of crimes – particularly crimes of sexual and domestic violence - and we want to see more prosecutions for those who engage in such crimes".

He added: "We want to see more rapists brought to justice.

Originally posted at >>>/qresearch/16385776 (021515ZJUN22) Notable: Airline problems due to "Crew Shortages"

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

There has been significant disruption at UK airports, with flights cancelled and long queues ahead of the long weekend.

But there is disagreement between the government and industry about the cause of the problems.

Staff shortages

Covid restrictions were hugely challenging for the travel industry.

Airlines UK, the industry body for airlines registered in the UK, said airlines cut about 30,000 jobs during the pandemic, having employed 74,000 people in 2019.

Thousands of jobs were also cut from airports and aviation support activities, which used to employ another 66,000 people.

In June 2020, for example, Swissport, which employed about 8,500 staff at UK airports including baggage handlers and security staff, announced it was cutting more than half of them.

The company has now hired 2,800 people since January, although 1,200 of them still do not have full security clearance.

While travel restrictions have been easing gradually, the last restrictions for passengers entering the UK were only lifted on 18 March.

Meanwhile, unions have said that airport staff have been considering whether it is worth returning to airport jobs and are moving to other areas.

The Office for National Statistics said that between February and April 2022 there were a record 1,295,000 job vacancies in the UK.

Vetting

It takes longer to replace airport staff than other workers because they need security clearance from the Civil Aviation Authority and the government.

There have been reports that the vetting is taking considerably longer than the 14 weeks it usually takes, but the Cabinet Office told BBC News: "There are absolutely no delays to security vetting of applicants. It is wrong to suggest otherwise and we are prioritising vetting applications from the aviation industry."

In order to speed up the process, the government changed the rules at the end of April to allow new staff to receive training while waiting for their vetting, but clearly that will not solve the problems straight away.

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary pointed out that Brexit means the industry cannot just bring in young Europeans to alleviate staff shortages.

Did anyone see it coming?

The government said its ministers had met with industry leaders before half term to ensure that they were prepared.

Now, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has said airlines and operators had "seriously oversold flights and holidays".

Gemma Antrobus, chair of the Association of Independent Tour Operators, rejected the government's criticism, blaming a lack of sector-specific support during the pandemic "so that we could survive through the pandemic and then also be ready for the comeback".

"Getting back to those levels of staffing, of training is not as quick and as simple as just a flick of a light switch."

Shadow transport secretary Louise Haigh called on ministers to address the backlog in security checks for new staff and work with industry to address "chronic low pay".

The government said it had given £8bn of support to the industry during the pandemic, including the furlough scheme, loan guarantees and the Airport and Ground Operations Support Scheme, which offered £4m grants to airports and companies providing them with services such as maintenance and cleaning.

How long will it last?

Industry leaders warned after disruption to flights in the Easter holidays that the situation would not improve for some time.

The industry now has less than two months to prepare for the summer holiday peak. That will give some time to recruit and train extra staff, but it is not yet clear whether it will be enough.

One advantage of the summer break is that the travel peak is not limited to a single week, as happens at half term.

But the current problems are not isolated to the UK.

Amsterdam's Schiphol airport had queues stretching out into the street last week due to a shortage of security staff, which led to KLM suspending ticket sales over the weekend.

Dublin Airport had similar problems on Sunday with staff shortages meaning that customers missed flights because it was taking so long to pass through security.

Meanwhile, Paris Airport tweeted that a breakdown of the computer system used by the border police had led to long waiting times.

=Pet hamsters in monkeypox homes face quarantine in secure facilities over fears virus will spread via wildlife=

The UKHSA has also raised concerns that monkeypox could be imported into the UK via pet rodents and exotic pets, because the animals do not require health certificates at borders

Pet hamsters and guinea pigs in homes where a person has monkeypox will be taken into quarantine to prevent a “spillover event” that could cause the virus to enter the wildlife population.

A risk assessment from the UK Health Security Agency said while the risk to humans from the virus remains low, there was potential for pet rodents to pick up infection from their owners and in turn spread it to rats, squirrels, hedgehogs and house mice.

This could lead to monkeypox spreading rapidly through the wild animal population and the virus becoming endemic in the UK as it is in West and Central African countries, the risk assessment says.

The new guidance was published as the number of people confirmed to have monkeypox in the UK rose to 106, with 16 new cases in England.

The document, prepared by UKHSA on behalf of the cross-government Human Animal Infections and Risk Surveillance (HAIRS) group, also raises concerns that monkeypox could be imported into the UK via pet rodents and exotic pets, because the animals do not require health certificates at borders.

“No border checks are in place for the movement of such animals and there is no health certificate required. Commercial documents are not routinely examined for such imports.”

The assessment concludes that there are not effective measures in place to prevent monkeypox being imported through exotic pets and small mammals from other countries.

“There are no harmonised health certificates for the commercial import of rodents into the EU from third countries, and MPX [monkeypox] is not notifiable under the EU Animal Health Law Commission Implementing Regulation EU/2018/1882.

“Once imported into the EU, they would not be subject to quarantine on arrival in the UK, unless they are declared as originating in a third country, because derogations are routinely given for EU-origin animals. Exotic pet trade fairs are commonplace in the EU.”

The guidance adds: “As the numbers of affected households in the UK related to the current outbreak are rapidly increasing, this warrants a more thorough assessment of the risk posed by mammalian pets exposed to monkeypox virus to people with whom they may come into contact.”

There are thought to be two million hamsters, guinea pigs and other pet rodents in the UK.

In the event an infected person has a pet rodent, the animal will be removed under strict Category 3 public health measures, with officials removing the pet wearing full PPE, and placed into secure quarantine for 21 days. The pet will be tested regularly and can only be released if it tests negative after the three-week period.

Other pets such as cats and dogs would not need to be taken away and quarantined but should be placed under household isolation, kept separate from the infected person, and regularly checked by a vet to ensure it does not develop symptoms.

The stricter measures are in place for pet rodents because they are more susceptible to carrying monkeypox and clinical signs are less obvious. Wild rodents such as rats and mice are natural reservoirs of infection.

The risk assessment adds that in the event of a “contaminated household… the risk posed is therefore to the non-infected human contacts or in-contact peridomestic or wild rodents”.

“It is unlikely (but cannot be ruled out) that an infected rodent pet could spread infection to peridomestic or wild rodents.

“Based on current evidence, for pet rodents in households where there are infected people, temporary removal from the household for a limited quarantine period (21 days) and testing to exclude infection is recommended, particularly where there are infected human contacts who have had close direct and prolonged contact with the animal or its bedding and/or litter.”

Animal-to-human transmission may occur when a person comes into close contact with the saliva, blood or other bodily fluids of an infected animal, the risk assessment says.

“Exposures may include being bitten or scratched by an infected animal, preparation of infected wild animal carcasses for consumption, or contact with a contaminated environment frequented by an infected animal (such as contaminated animal bedding, feeding bowls, water bottles).

People with monkeypox are also warned they should ensure their bins are secured, because “pox viruses, including MPXV, are very stable in the environment and therefore exposure of wild or pet rodents to contaminated household rubbish cannot be excluded”.

Edinburgh-based brewery Vault City Brewing will switch to predominantly can-only releases next month.

Steven Smith-Hay, the company's co-founder, said: "We started introducing cans to our release schedule in January because of rising costs and challenges with availability.

"This was initially just for our session sours and supermarket range, but because production prices are so high, we've decided to make all our beers can-only from June, with the exception of a few special releases each year."

Mr Smith-Hay said the company are paying approximately 65p per bottle currently - which is around 15p more than six months ago.

The UK is on the brink of a bottled beer shortage as stocks of glassware plummet and production costs soar, a leading Scottish wholesaler has warned.

Suppliers are already starting to deal with a glassware shortage, as prices jumped by 80% in the last 12 months due to rising energy costs.

The warning comes after beer experts in Germany said the country could be facing a glasware shortage this summer, with their small and medium-sized breweries expected to bear the brunt.

And it is only a matter of time before the shortage is felt within the UK's beer industry, according to Julie Dunn, operations director at one of Scotland's largest wholesalers, Dunns Food and Drinks.

She said: "It won't be long before the glassware shortages hits UK consumers. Our wine and spirits suppliers from around the globe are facing ongoing struggles that will have a knock-on effect.

"As a result, there could be less variety in the bottled beers we see on UK shelves.

"Specialist bottles and glassware hold a very important place in the heritage of the beer industry and I expect that while some breweries will convert to cans to ensure consistent supply, others will look at this as devaluing the brand, so will inevitably pass the additional cost onto beer drinkers.

"We sell a huge amount of beer from Germany, so I would expect us to feel a fairly seismic hit in the very near future. However, Dunns will always endeavour to source the best possible range it can."

Beer accounts for more than £7.1 billion of spend in 2020 - putting it as the most popular, alcoholic drink choice in the UK.

A marked shift towards people opting to drink beer at home rather than in hospitality venues was noted in 2017, with more than 53% of all beer sales happening off trade - an increase of 20% since 2000.

easyJet Reducing Aircraft Capacity To Meet Crew Shortages

QUESTION: If it was just just “shortages” due to downsizing during COVID, then why not just rehire staff (who already had security clearances) that were furloughed during COVID? ANSWER: those people were fired because they refused the jab.

(ARTICLE FOLLOWS)

Published May 08, 2022

easyJet will take out six seats on its A319s to reduce the number of flight attendants required.

easyJet has decided to remove six seats from its 55 Airbus A319s to meet crew shortages. The move means the aircraft will only be able to carry 150 passengers, reducing the crew needed from four to three per flight. easyJet has seen a challenging few months and is hoping to rescue its summer schedule with no further cuts.

Shortages hurting capacity

In an internal airline memo on Friday, seen by The Telegraph, easyJet said that it is taking steps to reduce crew demands for the summer season (which ends October 30th). The biggest change will be blocking off one row of its A319s to meet UK and EU safety regulations which state there must be one crew member for every 50 seats.

Removing six seats means the all-economy A319 will now only seat 150, allowing easyJet to roster three flight attendants per flight. Despite losing 4% capacity for over 100 daily flights, the lower crew usage will prevent the carrier from taking the most drastic step: canceling flights. Overall, the change could reduce the number of jobs needing filling by 300.

However, the capacity cuts will not affect easyJet's 2022 target of carrying the same number of passengers in 2019. But nothing is certain for now, and the airline is trying hard to bring in more staffers.

Ready to go staffing

Despite attracting criticism from the UK government for the airline Easter chaos, easyJet has not explicitly called out the authorities the way others may have.

However, the airline is currently waiting on security clearance for nearly 150 fully trained cabin crew, which would clear the way for more flights.

COVID delays have slowed down the security clearance process, which has made it hard for airlines to recruit.

British Airways is reportedly offering approved staffers a £1,000 ($1,233) 'welcome bonus' to join the carrier and ease off the pressure. BA has cut overall capacity by 5% and is now only at 80% of pre-pandemic levels, a far cry from its ambition.

For now, easyJet remains in disaster prevention mode with just two months to go before the summer travel season across Europe kicks off. If all goes well, the airline will be able to reach 2019 passenger levels again and push its finances back into the black. However, the chances of mass cancelations remain high, especially since high COVID cases at even one base can have a huge knock-on effect, as we've seen globally since December.

Excitement and panic

The aviation industry is facing a big paradox of being extremely thrilled for the summer but also anxious for the future. Passengers are booking flights in droves, with carriers breaking previous revenue records thanks to pent-up demand. Still, the serious risk of not being able to demand exists as well as the chance that this traffic drops after the summer.

Britain is to supply long-range rocket artillery to Ukraine, despite a threat on Sunday from Russia’s president, Vladimir Putin, to bomb fresh targets if similar weapons from the US were delivered to Kyiv.

The UK will send a handful of tracked M270 multiple launch rocket systems, which can hit targets up to 50 miles away, in the hope they can disrupt the concentrated Russian artillery that has been pounding cities in eastern Ukraine.

Ben Wallace, the UK defence secretary, argued the decision to ship the rocket launchers was justified because “as Russia’s tactics change, so must our support to Ukraine”. The move risks further provoking an already irritated Kremlin.

Before the British announcement, Putin told Rossiya state television that Russia would retaliate further if the US went through with the delivery of Himars rocket artillery that the White House promised last week.

“We will strike at those targets which we have not yet been hitting,” said the Russian leader, who has been closely involved with operational military decisions throughout the three months-plus of the war. He did not specify what those targets were.

In the small hours of Sunday morning, Russian cruise missiles struck a railway depot in the eastern Dniprovsky suburb of Kyiv. Ukraine said the strike hit a rail car repair works; Moscow said it had destroyed tanks sent by eastern European countries to Ukraine.

It was the first time anywhere in the capital has been hit for over five weeks. One person was hospitalised, and a plume of smoke rose and was visible from high points in the capital.

Five cruise missiles were launched from Tu-95 bombers, one of which was intercepted, Ukraine’s air force said, in an attack that represented a change of approach on the part of Russian forces. Kyiv was last hit on 28 April.

Russia’s ministry of defence claimed it was targeting an arsenal of T-72 tanks that had been delivered from eastern European countries, suggesting it now wants to target the supply of western arms. But Ukrainian officials said the statement was false.

Oleksandr Kamyshin, the chairman of the board of Ukrainian Railways, said: “There are no such tanks at the plant, as well as no military equipment. There are only cars that we repair. These carriages we need for export – these are, in particular, grain carriages.”

The UK, in conjunction with the US and other western nations, began the war by promising only to supply “defensive weaponry” to help Ukraine repel the Russian invasion. But as Russia has made gains in the east and the south of the country, western countries have gradually sent more lethal arms.

London said it had been cooperating closely with Washington. The British announcement comes a few days after the US said it would send four similar truck-mounted Himars systems. The US and UK systems are intended to be complementary. The ranges of both are far greater than any land weapons Ukraine currently has.

Like the US, the UK has sought assurances from Kyiv that the M270s would not be used to strike targets within Russia. A British defence source said the weapons will be used “to defend Ukraine, in Ukraine”. They added: “We have confidence that the weapons will be used appropriately.”

Britain did not say how many M270s it was sending, although the number is small and will be comparable to the US decision to send four Himars. Ukrainian troops will be trained on how to use the launchers in the UK, the MoD added, and Kyiv’s forces will be supplied with the appropriate rockets “at scale”.

However, Putin said he believed the west’s goal was to prolong the war in Ukraine, which has now gone on for over three months, after the Russian president launched an unprovoked invasion on 24 February.

Rising costs, exasperated by the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, have hit the takeaway industry. The National Federation of Fish Frier's president said he will ask Norway to send the UK fish and warned one-third of chippies could close.

Chip shops across the UK are asking Norway for more fish to help combat surging costs.

Rising energy bills and increased costs of cooking oil, potatoes and fish due to the war in Ukraine has meant the price of fish and chips has gone up.

Andrew Cook, who is president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, is set to ask for help on behalf of the industry at the Frozen At Sea summit in Alesund, Norway, on Wednesday,

"Most vessel owners in Norway produce headed and gutted fish that is then sent to be processed elsewhere," Mr Crook said.

"I am hoping that I can get them to switch some vessels to produce fillets for my industry, as we need as many as we can get to help keep the price as under control as possible."

He added that the industry expects a 35% tariff on white fish from Russia, which will force the price of all fish up.

"We cannot be so reliant on supplies from one specific nation," he added.

Food shortages could force 'a third' of fish and chips shops to close.

The cost per kilo of Icelandic cod increased from £7.80 in October to £16, while potato costs have increased by 30%, according to the Daily Mirror.

In May, Mr Crook said that chip shops could close due to rising costs and he reiterated his warning again, saying that a third of chippies could shut and "action is needed now to ensure we get through this in the best.

On 3 March, Tory MP Andrew Bridgen raised the issue in the Commons, telling politicians that "award-winning" fish and chip shops in his constituency have told him "the business outlook has never been more volatile, with record price rises for fish, batter, fat, wrapping paper and of course, energy".

He said: "Many fish and chip shops are worried about whether they are actually going to survive, so, could we have a statement from the government about what action the government is going to take to ensure they protect the future of our fish and chip shops, a great part of British life?"

Commons Leader Mark Spencer jokingly told MPs "I declare an interest in fish and chips," before adding: "Takeaways are a huge part of the night-time economy.

"Those businesses are actually a service they provide to our community and they should be supported.
Crisis talks are under way to prevent empty supermarkets
Britain's crisps supply crunch has eased

"I wish not only his fish and chip shop well, but all fish and chip shops all around the country."

Sanctions imposed on Russia at the end of March meant price rises across the global seafood industry.

According to a 2020 report by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, Russia is one of the largest producers of seafood globally and was the fifth-largest producer of wild-caught fish.

Almost 90 flights due to return to the UK were cancelled on Sunday and this morning during one of the busiest periods of international travel since the end of Covid travel restrictions.

It came after a week of severe disruption that prompted the government to issue a series of warnings to the chronically understaffed aviation sector amid accusations that airlines had oversold flights.

As the cancellations continued this morning, the travel industry accused ministers of “passing the buck” while...

HARVEY WEINSTEIN to be charged with indecent assault offences in the UK

The Crown Prosecution Service has confirmed that former Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, 70, will be charged with two counts of indecent assault against a woman in London in August 1996.

For much of Harvey Weinstein’s career dark rumours of sexual assault and harassment followed the Hollywood producer.

They were rarely spoken openly and only in recent years did the allegations gather the heft and momentum that culminated in a courtroom in Manhattan.

The judge sentenced Weinstein to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual abuse. The sentence handed down in a Manhattan courtroom includes 20 years for the first-degree criminal sexual act and three years for third-degree rape, nearly the maximum allowed under New York state law.

Weinstein’s victims “refused to be silent, and they were heard,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said at the time in a statement after the sentencing hearing.

He added: “Their words took down a predator and put him behind bars, and gave hope to survivors of sexual violence all across the world.”
