Ottawa is working on a new law that would provide the authority to expropriate sanctioned funds, the finance minister says

Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland said on Tuesday that the country is considering passing a law allowing the confiscation of sanctioned Russian assets.

“We hope that budget legislation will be adopted in the coming days. For the first time for Canada, it includes measures that will allow the confiscation of frozen and sanctioned assets,” Freeland told journalists. She added that the issue has been already discussed with the United States and other allies.

“It's very important to find funds to rebuild Ukraine. And I can't think of a better source of that funding than confiscated Russian assets,” she said.

Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1,000 individuals and entities from and in Russia.

In April, Ottawa said it would change its legislation to give the government new authority to seize and sell the assets of sanctioned Russian individuals and give the proceeds to Ukraine.

The defense minister vowed to help the US upgrade North American missile systems

Ottawa has committed to investing at least $3.8 billion over the next six years to modernize the joint US-Canadian early warning system known as North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Defense Minister Anita Anand announced on Monday.

“As autocracies like Russia threaten the rules-based international order that has protected us for decades, as our climate changes and as our competitors develop new technologies like hypersonic weapons and advanced cruise missiles, there is a pressing need to modernize Canada's NORAD capabilities,” Anand said as cited by CBC.

The initial $3.8 billion (Can$4.9 billion) investment is just the first part of an even more ambitious plan to spend up to $31 billion (Can$40 billion) over the next two decades, Anand said. She did not provide a specific breakdown of where the money will go, but named several areas the initiative will focus on, including an Arctic over-the-horizon radar system, a space-based surveillance project, and a new system called ‘Crossbow’ with early warning sensors deployed across the country.

Speaking at an airbase in Trenton, Ontario, Anand repeatedly pointed to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine as the reason Ottawa decided to commit billions towards upgrading the aging missile warning system.

“NORAD has continually adapted and evolved in response to new threats. Today, we turn another page and begin NORAD’s next chapter,” Anand said, providing no specific timeline, adding that all existing systems will remain active until the expected upgrades are in place.

Quintana Roo – Two Canadians were found dead with their throats slashed in Mexico’s Playa del Carmen, state officials said on Tuesday.

The couple was found dead at a hotel condominium and a security guard was injured, Quintana Roo state prosecutors said.

The deceased male was on Interpol’s wanted list for fraud.

Two Canadians — one of them sought by Interpol — have been found dead of knife wounds in Mexico’s Caribbean coast resort of Playa del Carmen, the state prosecutor’s office said Tuesday.

Prosecutors in Quintana Roo state, also home to resorts like Cancun and Tulum, said the man and the woman were found dead Monday at a hotel or condominium in the troubled resort, and a third person was reported injured.

There was no immediate information on their names or hometowns. “Global Affairs Canada is aware of the death of two Canadian citizens in Mexico,” the ministry said in a statement.

But prosecutors confirmed the male victim was on an Interpol wanted list for fraud charges.

News of the executed couple comes as violence in Mexico’s resort towns of Tulum and Cancun explode.

Cartel violence has spilled over into the tourist resorts along Mexico’s Caribbean coast.

Last October two travel bloggers visiting Tulum were caught in the crossfire of rival gangs and died.

A fierce shootout just north of Playa del Carmen left at least two drug dealers dead last November, AP reported.

There has been a notable push in recent years, especially in the United States and Canada, to actively promote transgenderism in the young population.

An international non-profit group known for promoting radical “transgender health” ideology is now saying that the chemical and/or genital alteration of a child’s natural body can be started as young as 14.

The Associated Press reported that it was provided an advance copy of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s (WPATH) forthcoming “gender transition” recommendations, which will be published in a medical journal later this year.

According to WPATH, so-called “gender transition” treatment, which includes genital alteration surgery and chemical hormone treatment, can now be given at younger ages, essentially in kids who have not yet fully matured.

The group, which is one of the leading promoters of what it calls “transgender health” in the world, had earlier recommended that both hormone treatment and/or genital manipulation surgery on boys or girls could start at 16.

WPATH even went so far as to acknowledge that there are potential risks in such so-called “therapy” for kids at a young age but claimed withholding such treatment would hurt kids.

The case reports included in Pfizer clinical trial documents, released June 1 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, reveal a trend of classifying almost all adverse events — and in particular severe adverse events — as being “not related” to the vaccine.

The latest release by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine documents reveals numerous instances of participants who sustained severe adverse events during Phase 3 trials. Some of these participants withdrew from the trials, some were dropped and some died.

The 80,000-page document cache includes an extensive set of Case Report Forms (CRFs) from Pfizer Phase 3 trials conducted at various locations in the U.S., in addition to other documentation pertaining to participants in Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine trials in the U.S. and worldwide.

The FDA on June 1 released the documents, which pertain to the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of the vaccine, as part of a court-ordered disclosure schedule stemming from an expedited Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed in August 2021.

Public Health and Medical Professionals for Transparency (PHMPT), a group of doctors and public health professionals, submitted the FOIA request.

CRFs show deaths, severe reactions to the vaccines during Phase 3 trials

The CRFs included in this month’s documents contain often vague explanations of the specific symptoms experienced by the trial participants.

They also reveal a trend of classifying almost all adverse events — and in particular severe adverse events (SAEs) — as being “not related” to the vaccine.

Ottawa intends to stick to anti-Russia sanctions, but does not want them to harm Germany

Ottawa is exploring ways to return crucial parts for Russia’s Nord Stream pipeline, which are currently stuck in Canada due to sanctions, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday citing Canadian Minister of Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson.

“We want to respect the sanctions because the sanctions were put into place for a reason. That being said, the intent of the sanctions was never to cause significant pain to Germany, which is one of our closest friends and allies. So, we are very seized with this issue,” Wilkinson told the news outlet.

“We are talking to Germany, trying to find a pathway through which we can actually enable the flow of gas. There may be different options that we can look at,” he stated, adding that Ottawa is negotiating with Berlin on ways to return the equipment.

Russia’s energy supplier Gazprom was forced to slash natural gas flows to Germany via the Nord Stream pipeline by 60% last week, because Siemens turbines from Gazprom’s Portovaya pumping station in Vyborg were stuck in Montreal, where they were sent to undergo maintenance. The parts fall under Canada’s sanctions against Russia, and the country says it cannot return them without breaching these restrictions.

According to the German Federal Grid Agency, the reduction in gas flow affected the supply of Russian gas from Germany to other European countries, including France, Austria and the Czech Republic.

The situation prompted these and other EU countries to announce emergency measures this week aimed at reducing the use of natural gas. Some countries have claimed that the reduction of gas flows was a political decision made by Moscow to increase pressure on Europe. Gazprom says the issue is technical.

Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) veteran James Topp took a break from his march across Canada Wednesday to meet with Members of Parliament in Ottawa.

Topp began marching from Vancouver to Ottawa in February to protest the government’s vaccine mandates and restrictions.

He is set to return to Deep River, ON so he can continue his 4000 KM march. Topp is scheduled to formally arrive at the National War Memorial on Jun. 30 at 6pm.

Two formal meetings were held today inside Parliament’s Valour Building. True North attended the first meeting. A second meeting took place on Wednesday afternoon.

In his opening statement, Topp said that he has heard from a lot of people who are dissatisfied with the current Trudeau government.

He also addressed growing divisions in Canada, which he says resembles what he has seen in war zones.

“There is a divide in this country I have never seen or experienced before – I’ve only ever seen it in a warzone.”

Air Canada recently “deplaned” 25 people from a flight out of Montreal without giving an explanation to the passengers.

“We understand that there are allegations that, in the course of removing these passengers, certain unrelated individuals were deplaned as well,” Air Canada said in an email statement.

“Some of these deplaned customers were rebooked this morning and are on their way to their final destination.”

According to BC couple Josh Slatkoff and Tara Sharpe, the two were on the way to attend Sharpe’s grandmother’s funeral when police abruptly escorted them off the plane at 12:30 am, leaving them stranded in the airport before being kicked out at 2:00 am and heading to a hotel.

“The next row in front of us was also removed, and that included a couple that was in their 70s. At that point, I was completely shocked. We had no idea what to make of what was happening,” Slatkoff told CBC News in an interview.

“Then the Air Canada attendant pointed at our row, and he told us we needed to leave as well.”

According to Slatkoff, airline staff initially told him that they, and other passengers, were kicked off the flight for drinking and not wearing a mask, which Slatkoff said was bogus.

“We showed our masks, N95s, and I said to her, ‘Does this look like the kind of mask someone would wear if they were refusing to wear a mask?'”

Slatkoff said that despite Air Canada’s statement, he and his wife still wait for things to be set right.

This latest debacle comes after videos emerged showing abhorrent flight wait times and cancellations in Canadian airports across the country, leaving many stranded for days.

Despite numerous complaints from airlines and travellers, Liberal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra recently said that the feds have no intentions to end ArriveCan (just one of the hoops travellers must jump through), which continues to wreak havoc in Canada’s travel industry.

He has an increasingly defiant caucus, his approval numbers have been in the toilet for years and the very arc of history decrees that he can never win another election.

It’s why Ottawa watchers are beginning to speculate that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau seems to be acting like a political leader who knows his days are numbered.

Former NDP leader Tom Mulcair — who once faced Trudeau in the opposition benches — wrote in a recent CTV column that the Liberals seemed to be infected by a “whole-of-government approach to incompetence” indicative of a PMO that has effectively given up.

Longtime pundit Chantal Hébert received an avalanche of Liberal scorn this week for a similar column claiming that Trudeau was exhibiting “systemic nonchalance” that seemed to belie a government who knows the end is nigh. Hébert too, identified the deal with Jagmeet Singh’s NDP as the beginning of the end.

“Instead of giving Trudeau’s team a second wind, the striking of a co-operation agreement with the NDP last March seems to have given it a licence for inertia,” she wrote.

Don Martin, another veteran Canadian political pundit, felt confident to declare Trudeau a lame duck after a quick canvas of his usual Liberal contacts. “He’s too woke, too precious, preachy in tone, exceedingly smug, lacking in leadership, fading in celebrity, slow to act, short-sighted in vision and generally getting more irritating with every breathlessly whispered public pronouncement,” was how he summed up their sentiment. While thousands of Canadians wait months for their passports to be renewed, recently revealed records show that hundreds of passport office workers were placed on leave without pay due to refusing to get the COVID jabs or not disclosing their status.

As reported by Blacklock’s Reporter, Service Canada, which is the federal agency that runs the country’s passport program, had at least 249 workers placed on leave under its vaccine mandate.

The information came from an Inquiry Of Ministry tabled in the Commons by Service Canada as a result of massive delays in both wait and processing times for passports.

Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) MP Gérard Deltell blasted the delays as “bad for my country.”

To make matters worse, another 18,362 employees were working from home because of COVID lockdowns. It is not clear how many of these workers are now back in the office or still working from home.

According to the Inquiry Of Ministry, this was because “safety of clients and employees remains the top priority.”

Last fall, the federal government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau put in place a COVID vaccine mandate for all federal workers.

As it stands now, since June 20 COVID vaccine mandates at the federal level for both travel and workers in government have been “suspended.”

The consumer price index accelerated to 7.7% in May, official data shows

Canadian consumer prices rose in May at rates not seen since January 1983, surging past analysts’ forecasts, data from Statistics Canada shows. The growth was largely driven by higher gasoline prices.

According to the report, the consumer price index surged 7.7% last month compared with a year ago.

The increase came as energy prices rocketed 34.8% on an annual basis, with gasoline prices up by 48%.

Grocery price gains matched April’s increase of 9.7%, shelter cost inflation also matched April at 7.4%. Prices for services were up as well, led by hotels and restaurants.

Inflation has now been above the Bank of Canada’s 2% target for 15 months.

“It’s clear that central banks have been losing sleep over inflation... with this report, they’ll need to renew their sleeping-pill prescriptions,” Jimmy Jean, chief economist at Desjardins Group, told Reuters.

The Liberal government has greenlit a 22% hike to Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam’s salary.

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, Tam will now be earning $324,000 a year – a $59,400 boost from her previous salary of $265,000. Additionally, Tam had her contract for the role extended by another three years.

Throughout her management of the Covid-19 pandemic, Tam has faced criticism for bungling many aspects of the federal response.

Recently, Tam acknowledged that the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) underestimated initial spread rates.

“Yes, we only got the tip of the iceberg,” said Tam on Jan. 14, 2021.

A year prior, Tam also asserted that the virus was largely under control before another wave.

“Transmission is largely under control. Canada is aiming for strong epidemic control over the course of the pandemic with less than ten percent of the population infected overall,” said Tam on Jun. 29, 2020.

Critics have also accused PHAC of mismanaging Canada’s emergency stockpile prior to the pandemic after it was revealed that Tam had closed several warehouses full of medical supplies at the start of the pandemic

Additionally, millions of pieces of personal protective equipment were thrown into the dump. In February, it was revealed that nobody at PHAC was held accountable for the decision and former vice-president Sally Thornton who was overseeing the stockpile at the time went into retirement.

Tam has also given conflicting advice to Canadians when it came to masking. During the early days of the pandemic, Tam stated that there was “no need to use a mask for well people.” She also stated that “a mask on an asymptomatic person is not beneficial.”

“What we worry about is actually the potentially negative aspects of wearing masks where people are not protecting their eyes or, you know, other aspects of where the virus could enter your body, and that gives you a false sense of confidence,” said Tam on Mar. 30, 2020.

Freedom events are planned next week in downtown Ottawa for the arrival of Canadian Armed Forces Veteran James Topp and in celebration of Canada Day. Organizers are also planning events on weekends throughout the summer.

“It seems to me that their plan is always to sort of protect the parliamentary precinct, but they sort of just leave residential neighbourhoods there to dry,” Horizon Ottawa’s Sam Hersh told The Canadian Press.

According to Blacklock’s Reporter, an Inquiry of Ministry tabled in the House of Commons shows that no trees were planted despite the hefty consultation fees.

“The department did not spend any funding to plant trees directly. Rather the department supports organizations planting trees with funding through grants,” wrote Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson.

Trudeau made the pledge to plant two billion trees in his 2019 election platform but nearly two years later, only 0.4% of the target goal or 8.5 million trees have been planted.

“We’ll plant 2 billion trees over the next ten years. That’s it. That’s the tweet,” tweeted Trudeau on Sept. 27, 2019.

The Liberals earmarked a whopping $3.16 billion over ten years to get the job done.

“To fight climate change, protect forests and create good jobs, the government proposes to provide up to $3.16 billion, over ten years, starting in 2021-22, with $2 million in remaining amortization, to Natural Resources Canada to partner with provinces, territories, non-governmental organizations, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and others to plant 2 billion trees,” a 2020 economic update read.

Pope Francis remains silent on the ruling of the US Supreme Court yesterday that overturned Roe v. Wade and pushed abortion out of the courts and into the states. However, a department of the Vatican did release a statement.

The Pontifical Academy of Life said Friday that the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade “challenges the whole world.”

“The court’s opinion shows how the issue of abortion continues to arouse heated debate. The fact that a large country with a long democratic tradition has changed its position on this issue also challenges the whole world,” the Vatican academy wrote in a statement on June 24.

“The protection and defense of human life is not an issue that can remain confined to the exercise of individual rights, but instead is a matter of broad social significance. After 50 years, it is important to reopen a non-ideological debate on the place that the protection of life has in a civil society to ask ourselves what kind of coexistence and society we want to build,” it said.

The academy’s statement was the first official reaction to the court’s decision issued by an entity linked to the Roman Curia. Pope Francis has condemned abortion using strong language, referring to it as “murder” and on multiple occasions comparing the act of killing an unborn child to hiring a “hitman” to solve a problem.

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, the president of the academy, said: “In the face of Western society that is losing its passion for life, this act is a powerful invitation to reflect together on the serious and urgent issue of human generativity and the conditions that make it possible.”

Many Democrats claim to be Catholics and have met Pope Francis.

Pope Francis has even called Joe Biden a good Catholic.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau defended his use of the Emergencies Act on Freedom Convoy protestors and restrictions on the unvaccinated, saying unvaccinated Canadians accepted the consequences of not taking the vaccine.

Prime Minister Trudeau spoke about unvaccinated Canadians during an interview this week saying, “It was their choice and nobody ever was going to force anyone into doing something they don’t want to do.”

“But there are consequences when you don’t. You cannot choose to put at risk your co-workers. You cannot choose to put at risk the people sitting beside you on an aeroplane,” Trudeau told broadcaster CBC.

Trudeau has previously linked unvaccinated people to racism and misogyny while a guest on a French-speaking Quebec television programme last year.

“We all know people who are deciding whether or not they are willing to get vaccinated, and we will do our very best to try to convince them. However, there is still a part of the population (that) is fiercely against it,” Trudeau said and added, “They don’t believe in science/progress and are very often misogynistic and racist. It’s a very small group of people, but that doesn’t shy away from the fact that they take up some space.”

“This leads us, as a leader and as a country, to make a choice: Do we tolerate these people? ” he added.

Trudeau later referred to anti-vaccine mandate protestors in the trucker Freedom Convoy as a “small fringe minority” with “unacceptable views” before eventually invoking the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canadian history to dislodge the protestors from Ottawa.

In his interview with CBC, Trudeau defended the use of the Emergencies Act saying it did not violate free speech or peaceful assembly, claiming the Ottawa protest was an illegal occupation.

However, in recent weeks an inquiry into the use of the Emergencies Act has revealed that Safety Minister Marco Mendicino may have lied to parliament when he claimed law enforcement has requested the use of the Emergencies Act as law enforcement officials later stated they had not requested it.

Emergency Preparedness Minister Bill Blair and Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland later testified that no law enforcement agency had requested the act.

When confronted on the issue, Prime Minister Trudeau said, “We had a range of advice from Justice. From Public Safety. From various areas.”

“But if you think about the specific tools, one of the concrete complaints was tow truck drivers weren’t willing to send in their rigs at the cost of being outed or harassed by these protesters,” he said and added the need to get tow truck drivers to remove trucks from around the Canadian parliament building required the use of the Emergencies Act.

The Liberals are intent on funneling ever more of our collective resources to bolster the US Empire, spending lavishly to "modernize" Canada’s chief bi-national military accord. Early this week, Canada's Defense Minister Anita Anand announced the government would spend $4.9 billion to upgrade the North American Aerospace Defense Command. The federal government said it will devote $40 billion to NORAD over 20 years, but it may be far more than that noted David Pugliese in a story headlined: "Cost to modernize NORAD set at $40 billion, but will final tally be higher?"

The media and government framed the announcement as strengthening Canada’s defenses. According to the Globe and Mail report, "the Canadian government has pledged $4.9 billion over six years to help upgrade North America’s air defenses, addressing the growing threat posed by hypersonic missiles and advanced cruise missile technology developed by Russia and China."

But it’s absurd to present NORAD as a defensive arrangement. Its lead actor has 1,000 international bases and special forces deployed in 149 countries. Rather than protect Canada and the US, NORAD supports violent missions led by other US commands. In 1965 NORAD’s mandate was expanded to include surveillance and assessment sharing for US commands stationed worldwide (United States European Command, United States Pacific Command, United States Africa Command, etc.).

The Pentagon has put satellites into space to enable first strike ballistic missile defense (BMD). While Paul Martin’s Liberals claimed to oppose BMD, they granted "full cooperation by NORAD in missile defense work," explained Richard Sanders in a Press for Conversion report on the subject. In 2004 Ottawa formally permitted the US BMD system to use data from NORAD’s "Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment."

It’s called "missile defense" because it’s designed to defend US missiles sites after they launch offensive operations. US-installed missile defense systems in Romania and Korea, for instance, are designed primarily to stop opponents’ missiles following a US first strike. US space-based missile defense interceptors able to eliminate Russia’s early warning satellites without warning puts that country on edge. This ratchets up the arms race and the likelihood of nuclear war.

NORAD has also drawn Canada into US belligerence in other ways. During the July 1958 US invasion of Lebanon NORAD was placed on "increased readiness" while US troops checked secular Arab nationalism after Iraqis toppled a Western-backed king (at the same time British troops invaded Jordan to prop up the monarchy there).

In a higher profile incident, Canadian NORAD personnel were put on high alert when the US illegally blockaded Cuba in October 1962. This transpired even though Prime Minister John Diefenbaker hesitated in supporting US actions during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

During the 1973 Ramadan/Yom Kippur/Arab – Israeli War NORAD was placed on heightened alert. Washington wanted to deter the USSR from intervening on Egypt’s behalf. NORAD systems offered surveillance and communications suppozsart to the 1991 war on Iraq. It monitored the region and provided information to launch US Patriot surface-to-air missiles. NORAD ballistic missile warnings were also sent to Ottawa and Canadian units in Bahrain.

NORAD also supported the 2003 invasion of Iraq. The same can be said for US bombing in Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, etc.

Thousands of Canadian military personnel assist NORAD’s operations. One hundred and fifty Canadians are stationed at NORAD’s central collection and coordination facility near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hundreds more work at regional NORAD outposts across the US and Canada and many pilots are devoted to the Command.

A Royal Canadian Air Force general is the vice commander of NORAD and runs the entire command when the US commander is absent. In discussing the two countries’ most significant bilateral military accord, Ann Griffiths explains, "NORAD brings the Canadian military more deeply within the US defense establishment than any other ally. The United States quite simply, would not entrust such responsibilities to the military of any other close ally, not even Britain."

NORAD makes Canada a junior partner to US militarism. If Canada was truly a force for good in the world, a peacekeeper and adherent of a rules based international order, Ottawa would withdraw from NORAD, rather than spend billions more strengthening it.

The document shows that COVID-19 injectable product use has a dose response: more doses = more cases = more hospitalizations = more deaths. Easy enough to understand.

Moscow claims the troops were stationed inside a zinc factory

Russian aircraft have struck a zinc factory in the Donbass, killing dozens of Polish fighters, the Russian Defense Ministry asserted on Saturday.

“Up to 80 Polish mercenaries” were killed, and 20 armored vehicles and eight Grad multiple rocket launchers were destroyed in the town of Konstantinovka, Defense Ministry spokesman, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, said during his daily briefing.

He added that artillery pieces, personnel and drones had been targeted in other areas. Konashenkov said a Tochka-U ballistic missile had been intercepted mid-air near the town of Molodyozhnoye in southern Ukraine.

Numerous fighters from EU member states and countries such as the US and Canada have been operating in Ukraine.

Earlier this month, a court in the Donetsk People’s Republic handed death sentences to two British nationals and one Moroccan, who were serving with the Ukrainian forces. The men have not yet been executed.

Russia attacked its neighboring state in late February, following Ukraine’s failure to implement the terms of the Minsk agreements, first signed in 2014, and Moscow’s eventual recognition of the Donbass republics of Donetsk and Lugansk. The German- and French-brokered protocol was designed to give the breakaway regions special status within the Ukrainian state.

The Kremlin has since demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join the US-led NATO military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked and has denied claims it was planning to retake the two republics by force.

Forecasts by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada predict that the end of year inventory level of crop stocks are going to be at a record low due to surmounting food supply issues caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and other issues.

In a report titled Canada: Outlook for Principal Field Crops, Agriculture Canada researchers found that the inventory of all principal field crops such as canola and wheat fell by 29.1% as of Mar. 31, 2022 when compared to the year prior.

“The economic outlook, for the world and Canadian grain markets remains particularly uncertain, due in large part to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has resulted in the ongoing disruption of supplies from the region for the foreseeable future,” wrote staff.

“For 2021-2022 stocks of all principal field crops reported by (Statistics Canada) as of March 31, 2022 declined by 29.1% relative to March 31, 2022 due to drought-reduced production in 2021 and sustained strong global demand.”

Individual crops which were impacted included canola stocks which fell by a whopping 49.3% while wheat stocks fell by five megatonnes.

“As a result, carry-out stocks (ending-year inventories) for all principal field crops are forecast to end the year at a record low level,” wrote staff.

Tight Canadian and global grain supplies as well as increasing international demand led Agriculture Canada to forecast strong crop prices while warning that price volatility will continue due to the unpredictable nature of the Ukraine conflict.

“Crop prices, in general, are expected to remain relatively strong in 2022-23 but decrease from the record to near-record prices of 2021-22 as Canadian and world production is expected to increase,” the report read.

Farmers have warned that sky-high fertilizer prices are contributing to food supply chain issues.

“We’re currently facing a fertilizer crisis as one of our big supply chain issues. Farmers need to find low-cost alternatives that are more environmentally friendly and that will still fit their needs,” president of the National Farmers Union Katie Ward told parliamentarians in February.

As exclusively reported by True North in April, the Western Canadian Wheat Growers blasted Agriculture Canada for singling out grain growers for allegedly having the highest “emissions intensity” in the world in a recent discussion document.

“I would like to know where they got their facts from,” said president Gunter Jochum. “I believe those facts were entirely made up because in Canada we don’t even have a baseline as to what the true emissions are.”

He’s now deleted the tweet without a word. Like it never happened. Unfortunately for Singh, though, the Internet never forgets.

The optics of the tweet were peculiar, to say the least. Upon witnessing this stunt by Singh, the media were half-mocking, half-head-scratching as to why he did it.

Singh’s stunt came the day after Liberal’s most recent scandal sent shockwaves through media — independent and corporate alike. However, it was enough to momentarily divert the media’s attention from the scandal to Singh’s poor judgment.

Indeed, despite saying we’re still in a pandemic, Singh brought his unvaccinated daughter into an indoor setting. This came the same week that, because he believed COVID was still a threat, Singh voted to extend the work-from-home ‘hybrid’ option for MPs until mid-2023.

Following the recent Liberal scandal, calls have been mounting for Singh to hold Trudeau accountable and ditch the Liberal-NDP coalition.

“Bring on a confidence motion, Mr. Singh. Show some steel.” said the National Post’s Rex Murphy.

“C’mon, Jagmeet. You know this isn’t right. Drop the agreement. Let’s go for an election in the fall,” Conservative leadership candidate Roman Baber tweeted.

Baber also questioned where Singh’s loyalty lies. On more than one occasion, Baber has suggested that Singh agreed to the pact with the Liberals because it prevents an election from happening until 2025 when Singh’s pension kicks in.
