Obama Condemns 'Vile Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories' Promoted by Kanye West, Kyrie Irving
Irving and West have been accused of promoting antisemitic conspiracy theories on social media in recent weeks. 'We have to call it out and put an end to that kind of mindset. But unfortunately it seems that this kind of poison gets more and more attention,' the former president said
Former U.S. President Barack Obama on Saturday sharply condemned "big celebrities" for posting antisemitic conspiracy theories, alluding to recent controversies centering around Kanye West and Kyrie Irving.
"It's not just politicians. Whether it's out of malice or ignorance, we've seen recently big celebrities reposting vile, antisemitic conspiracy theories online," Obama told a Pennsylvania rally in support of Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman.
"You don't have to be a student of history to understand how dangerous and unacceptable that is. I don't know when we decided we were going to believe everything we read on the internet," the former president told the Pittsburgh crowd.
"Here's a tip: if you read or see something online that has some grand theory about how some particular group – whether black folks or white folks or Jews or Catholics or immigrants or gays – if it says they are the cause of all your problems, it's safe to say it's garbage, a lie, dangerous poison," he continued.
"We have to call it out and put an end to that kind of mindset. But unfortunately it seems that this kind of poison gets more and more attention," Obama added.
Irving, an all-star NBA point guard, was suspended indefinitely by the Brooklyn Nets for failing to unequivocally condemn antisemitism after sharing a link to an antisemitic film. Irving, who has since posted a more thorough apology on his social media, will have to meet with Jewish leaders before being reinstated.
Nike has also suspended its relationship with Irving and will not launch the next version of his signature sneaker.
West, who has continued to promote antisemitic conspiracy theories following his hateful social media postings over the past several weeks, shared an image of Irving in solidarity in his first Tweet since being reinstated to the social media platform.

Is Big Tech Funding Literal Migrant "Roadmaps" To Enter The US From Central America?
The medical aid nonprofit Doctors Without Borders is providing and distributing maps for migrants that show routes through Central America to reach the United States, according to a new report by the Daily Caller.
And the kicker? The organization providing the maps is funded by "a number of prominent tech companies".
Called “shelters for people on the move” in Spanish, the map lists clinics and aid areas along routes to the U.S.
It shows paths that start in Guatemala that lead to the U.S.-Mexico border and lists clinics and shelters along the Mexican border that migrants can stop at during their trip. These clinics and shelters are across the border from major U.S. cities like El Paso, Texas and San Diego, California, the report says.
Meanwhile, Doctors Without Borders has gotten sizeable donations from companies like Google and Amazon, the report notes. It has also received millions in donations from the foundations of billionaires like Elon Musk and Michael Bloomberg.
Doctors Without Borders spokeswoman Jessica Brown told The Daily Caller: “As a medical humanitarian organization providing medical and mental health care to people on this migration route, MSF [Médecins Sans Frontières] prints and distributes these maps to ensure that people know where to find shelter and humanitarian assistance and how to access mental health services along the migration route."
Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) Director of Government Relations and Communications RJ Hauman concluded: “The fact that an international medical NGO with billions in the bank is making literal roadmaps to guide migrants from Central America to our southern border is not only an affront to its core mission, but a globalist attack on our sovereignty.”

Last May 16 the Moon slid through Earth's shadow, completely immersed in the planet's dark umbra for about 1 hour and 25 minutes during a total lunar eclipse. In this composited timelapse view, the partial and total phases of the eclipse were captured as the Moon tracked above the horizon from Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. There it shared a cold and starry south polar night with a surging display of the aurora australis and central Milky Way. In the foreground are the BICEP (right) and South Pole telescopes at the southernmost station's Dark Sector Laboratory. But while polar skies can be spectacular, you won't want to go to the South Pole to view the total lunar eclipse coming up on November 8. Instead, that eclipse can be seen from locations in Asia, Australia, the Pacific, the Americas and Northern Europe. It will be your last chance to watch a total lunar eclipse until 2025.

West Virginia's Democratic Senator Joe Manchin has torn into President Joe Biden's claim that he wants to shut down coal mines across the country to replace them with wind and solar plants,
The moderate called the remarks 'outrageous and divorced from reality' and said: 'Comments like these are the reason the American people are losing trust in President Biden'.
The cutting statement from Manchin on Saturday suggesting Biden changes his position 'depending on the audience and politics of the day' comes just three days before the midterms, with the Democrats trying to avoid heavy losses to Republicans.
'Being cavalier about the loss of coal jobs for men and women in West Virginia and across the country who literally put their lives on the line to help and power this country is offensive and disgusting', Manchin added.
'The President owes these incredible workers an immediate and public apology and it is a time he learn a lesson that his words matter and have consequences.'
DailyMail.com has reached out to the White House for comment.
Biden's comments that sparked Manchin's furious response came on Friday during an event in Carlsbad, California, in his final bid to pull voters to the Democrats in Tuesday's election.
He discussed his climate policies that are part of his administration's ambitious plans to cut greenhouse emissions by 2030.
'I was in Massachusetts about a month ago on the site of the largest old coal plant in America,' Biden said.
'Guess what? It cost them too much money. They can't count. No one is building new coal plants because they can't rely on it. Even if they have all the coal guaranteed for the rest of the existence of the plant.
'So it's going to become a wind generation. And all they're doing is it's going to save them a hell of a lot of money and using the same transmission line that they transmitted the coal-fired electric on, we're going to be shutting these plants down all across America and having wind and solar power, also providing tax credits to help families buy energy efficient appliances, whether it's your refrigerator or your coffee maker, for solar panels on your home, weatherize your home, things that save an average, experts say, a minimum of $500 a year for the average family.'

The Republican National Committee criticized the comments and said: 'Joe Biden celebrates coal plant workers losing their jobs'.
Biden added that it is 'cheaper to generate electricity from wind and solar than it is from coal and oil.'
'Literally cheaper,' the president said. 'Not a joke.'
A report from the Department of Energy in June found 29,271 people had lost their jobs in the fossil fuels sector in 2021.
Manchin is a coal advocate and around 11,000 residents of West Virginia work in the coal industry.
He struck a deal with Biden earlier this year to push through the Inflation Reduction Act, which was stacked with climate initiatives.
Manchin and his Democratic colleague Kyrsten Sinema are moderates in the Senate who have presented roadblocks to Biden's agenda.
On Thursday, Manchin gave his midterms pitch by imploring Congress to deal with the nation's 'crippling debt' by reforming Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare and other programs he claims are 'going bankrupt.'
He told a Fortune CEO conference he would like the next Congress to work on bipartisan entitlement reform to fix the programs that are facing 'tremendous problems.'
'We cannot live with this crippling debt,' Manchin griped, per Bloomberg. 'If we can't come to grips of how we face the financial challenges this country has, then we're all going to be paying a price that we can't afford.'
Manchin's fired the shot at Biden during his final stretch midterms campaigning.
He will be stumping for candidates in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New York to try and reverse the projections that show Republicans taking control of Congress.
On Friday night he said he was confident the Democrats could hold the Senate and there was a 'chance' of maintaining the House.

Most of Berkshire's eclectic assortment of more than 90 companies performed well during the quarter, but the key insurance unit of Geico reported a pre-tax underwriting loss of $759 million as the cost of auto claims soared along with the prices of used cars and car parts. Geico has been hampered by soaring costs since the second half of last year.
Geico did increase its rates by 5.4% during the quarter, but that was almost entirely offset because it lost 4.6% of its customers.
Another notable weak spot in the results was that BNSF railroad's profit declined 6% to $1.44 billion as it hauled 5% less freight the cost of fuel soared, and salary costs were adjusted up to reflect the raises railroads have agreed to pay their workers in tentative agreements with their 12 unions. Most of BNSF's peers reported significant increases in profits during the quarter.
Berkshire said its insurance units recorded after tax losses of $2.7 billion related to Hurricane Ian. That compares with $1.7 billion in catastrophic losses a year ago related to Hurricane Ida and major floods in Europe.
Berkshire is sitting on nearly $109 billion cash even though it has been actively investing in the stock market this year, including putting more than $51 billion to work in the first quarter.
