It's becoming clearer as the days of Trudeau's Liberals wear on: if elected Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau would turn Canada into a dictatorship.

This is the man who admitted he "admires China's basic dictatorship." It wasn't just a sarcastic comment - he seriously said that he admires the dictatorship because they can get things done quickly.

And it's becoming clearer that Trudeau not only admires the dictatorship – he runs the Liberal Party like one too.

How else can one explain the police-enforced acclamation of Andrew Leslie as the Liberal candidate for Orleans? Even with hundreds of Liberals attending the meeting to show their support for another candidate (and former Trudeau leadership rival), it was clear from the beginning that Leslie was Trudeau's hand-picked favourite, and certainly wouldn't be stopped by pesky processes like "democracy."

Just the imagery of Trudeau's chosen candidate being selected with police intervention is scary. It shows that Trudeau doesn't just admire China's dictatorship – he would practice one if he had the chance.

The nomination in Orleans is only the latest rigged "open nomination." Despite Trudeau's promises to actually, you know, practice democracy, at least a half dozen Liberal nominations have been rigged or tampered with through the direct intervention of Trudeau's office: mysteriously disqualifying candidates, changing nomination dates, paperwork going "missing," and using dirty "back-room" politics to ensure the leader's candidate is chosen at any cost.

But those are only Liberal candidates; surely Trudeau would loosen his grip on his caucus colleagues once they've been elected, wouldn't he? Unfortunately, no. The Liberal caucus randomly learned one morning early last year that their leader had come up with a new diktat: that all Liberals would be expected, no, required, to vote pro-choice. When Trudeau's pathetic attempted defence (that they were "the party of the Charter," obviously missing those small sections about freedom of conscience and religion) agitated more than a few Liberal MPs, he attempted to invent some weird "grandfathering" rule. But then he went back on that too.

Hollywood celebrities supported a Black Lives Matter bail fund that recently bailed out Quintez Brown, the BLM and anti-gun activist who has been charged with the attempted murder of a mayoral candidate in Louisville, Kentucky.

Brown reportedly entered Greenberg’s campaign headquarters and opened fire with a Glock 9mm handgun. Greenberg was not injured in the attack and Brown was apprehended ten minutes afterward.

Just days after his arrest, the Louisville Community Bail Fund posted the $100,000 bond to free Brown from jail as he awaits trial. Brown penned an anti-gun newspaper column in 2019 for Louisville’s Courier-Journal in which he excoriated “gun-loving Republicans.”

Celebrities championed the Louisville Community Bail Fund as an instrument of social justice during the 2020 BLM riots.

Hidden Figures star Janelle Monáe urged her fans to donate to the fund. “I’m getting heroes out of jail in Louisville. Join me if you can (especially those who seek to be allies). Let’s donate,” she tweeted that year.

A Practical Path to Condemn and Disqualify Donald Trump

THE JANUARY 6 PROJECT

Time has come for Congress to contemplate how to hold Donald Trump accountable for his efforts to overthrow the election and incite an insurrection. After all, the last time American citizens made such a concerted, violent effort to overthrow U.S. leaders was in April 1865, when a group of conspirators murdered President Abraham Lincoln and attacked other members of his Cabinet.

As others have noticed, Congress can pursue either impeachment or the invocation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. Impeachment has gotten the bulk of public attention, but it’s fitting to take a closer look at Section 3. The 14th Amendment path is true to the facts and preferable procedurally, as compared to impeachment.

The 14th Amendment disqualifies any enemy of the Constitution of the United States from holding state or federal office if that person, as a public official, had previously taken an oath to support the Constitution. Congress has the duty to enforce the 14th Amendment and only Congress, “by vote of two-thirds of each House[,]” has the power to enforce the provision and to remove the disqualification.

How might Congress go about enforcing Section 3? It can simply decide in any manner it wishes, including a resolution adopted by majority votes, that Donald Trump has “given aid or comfort to the enemies” of the Constitution of the United States. The U.S. Senate, for example, refused to seat Zebulon Vance in 1871 when North Carolina elected him to the Senate because, as a former congressman, he had violated his former oath by serving the Confederacy.

In the extensive discussions of this option, for instance, by Gerard Magliocca and Daniel Hemel here on Lawfare, there are two points that may be missed in those thickets and that require emphasis.

First, the 14th Amendment does not require the Senate to conclude that Trump engaged in an insurrection. The amendment requires only that Congress conclude that Trump gave aid or comfort to enemies of the Constitution. This he did, both on Jan. 6 and in the broader context of the events after the presidential election of 2020.

The House of Representatives has already adopted this conclusion. The article of impeachment adopted by the House found that Trump violated his oath to defend the Constitution “by willfully inciting violence against the Government of the United States.” It also found that this conduct was “consistent with his prior efforts to subvert and obstruct the certification of the results of the 2020 presidential election.” Thus, the House concluded, “In all of this, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of government.”

Hemel’s explanation of the relevant standard confused matters a bit because he discussed how “aid and comfort” was defined under the criminal law of treason, which applies to enemies “of the United States.” The 14th Amendment is not identical to the criminal law of treason: It refers to enemies of the Constitution.

What America just experienced was an assault by enemies at home who, while claiming to be patriots, sought to override and thus overthrow the Constitution’s procedures for electing a president. Though he had sworn to defend the Constitution as a public official, Trump gave aid and comfort to these enemies of the Constitution. He thereby, under the 14th Amendment, disqualified himself from holding future office unless the Congress chooses to remove the disqualification by a two-thirds vote.

The House already voted that Trump aided these enemies. The Senate could therefore just concur with the House’s conclusion, by majority vote, in a resolution. To make the legal implication of this shared conclusion clear, the resolution could add that, by these actions, Donald Trump gave aid or comfort to enemies of the Constitution of the United States. This would explicitly invoke the 14th Amendment standard. Period.

Magliocca is reluctant to find power for a congressional finding because he believes some judicial involvement is needed to establish 14th Amendment disability. But the 14th Amendment expressly gives Congress the direct constitutional authority to enforce its provisions, including by legislation.

Some might worry that a congressional finding violates the constitutional prohibition on bills of attainder, a legislative act that pronounces an individual’s guilt of a certain crime. But the congressional finding is not a prohibited bill of attainder. It is not a criminal conviction. The criminal law of treason is a separate matter with its own burdens of proof and penalties.

Magliocca refers to the use of the bill-of-attainder argument by a then-Supreme Court justice, Salmon Chase. The issue came up in the treason trial case of Jefferson Davis. It was voiced by one of the two circuit judges considering the matter, Supreme Court Chief Justice Chase, who was there in his circuit-riding role. The U.S. government thought this argument was meritless, as did the other judge hearing the case and as did lead sponsors of the 14th Amendment itself. The circuit court was therefore split. The issue was not settled by the U.S. Supreme Court only because President Andrew Johnson pardoned Davis before the case could be heard.

Jean-Luc Brunel, the friend of late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, was arrested and taken into custody on Wednesday, December 16, on suspicion of raping and trafficking minors — and some of his alleged victims are expressing heartbreaking relief at his capture.

One of these, an unnamed Canadian former model who alleged Brunel spiked her drink and raped her in his Paris apartment in 1987, says she was actually moved to tears over the arrest.

"I'm crying tears of joy," the woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told CBS News. "I'm still crying – it has brought it all back again, but they are tears of joy. I hope this time justice will be done – I hope he doesn't get away with it."

The model described what happened back in 1987, saying she knew Brunel through work and, during a night out clubbing together, the two stopped by his apartment to pick up something.

While at his place, Brunel offered her a drink.

"I was like, 'Sure, why not?'" she recalled. "And then I don't remember anything. He had drugged my drink."

After that: "The next thing I remember is waking up in his bed. He was beside me, and he was sleeping and naked, and I was wondering how I got there. And I remember sliding out of the bed and doing everything to just not wake him up."

She told the news outlet that she called a friend in a panic to come help her and almost leaped off the balcony of the fourth-floor apartment in her agitated state.

The woman explained that she was too ashamed to call the police at the time. But when she saw the Epstein headlines and noticed Brunel's name, she decided it was time to finally speak up.

This particular victim cannot take her case to trial, since the statute of limitations on bringing rape charges in France is 20 years and it's been too long. Nevertheless, she is relieved by the arrest and hopes a case can be built against Brunel.

"I'm just very happy — I feel that finally someone is listening to us," she said.

Brunel was arrested as he was about to board a flight to Dakar, Senegal, The Guardian reported. Prosecutors said the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation, which started in August 2019, after “events of a sexual nature” were “thought to have been committed by Jeffrey Epstein and other accomplices.”

Brunel — who is well-known for discovering models such as Christy Turlington, Sharon Stone and more — moved to the United States in the ‘90s and founded MC2 Model Management, which was funded by Epstein.

Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)) provides for the automatic termination of a national emergency unless, within 90 days prior to the anniversary date of its declaration, the President publishes in the Federal Register and transmits to the Congress a notice stating that the emergency is to continue in effect beyond the anniversary date. In accordance with this provision, I have sent to the Federal Register for publication the enclosed notice stating that the national emergency declared in Proclamation 9994 of March 13, 2020, beginning March 1, 2020, concerning the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, is to continue in effect beyond March 1, 2022.

There remains a need to continue this national emergency. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to cause significant risk to the public health and safety of the Nation. More than 900,000 people in this Nation have perished from the disease, and it is essential to continue to combat and respond to COVID-19 with the full capacity and capability of the Federal Government.

Therefore, I have determined that it is necessary to continue the national emergency declared in Proclamation 9994 concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.
