About That Mysterious Decline in Flu Cases...
What exactly are we to make of the stunning decline in influenza cases we’re seeing this season?
Phil Kerpen has been compiling the CDC’s data, and remarkable doesn’t even begin to describe it.
By the sixth week of last year, around 32% of the roughly 57,000 flu tests reported to the CDC had come back positive. And these numbers are in line with those from the previous four years as well:
In 2019, around 40,000 influenza tests were reported by week six, with roughly 26% positive.
From 2016 thru 2020, an average of around 44,000 influenza tests had been reported by week six, roughly 25% of which were positive
Yet, by the sixth week of 2021, CDC figures show that only 17 of the over 40,800 reported flu tests reported to the CDC this year were positive, which comes to a minuscule .04%!
If these numbers are to be believed, influenza cases have declined by a factor of over 600 this year compared to the previous five-year average.
For all intents and purposes, the flu appears to have vanished.
And it’s not just in America either.
British news outlet, the Independent just reported that not a single one of the almost 700,000 influenza tests reported in England so far this year has come back positive!

China gave anal COVID-19 tests to U.S. diplomats
Beijing says that the anal tests were made in error.
A report has revealed that the Chinese government used anal swabs to test U.S. diplomats for COVID-19, the New York Post reports.
Beijing says that the anal tests were made in error.
"The State Department never agreed to this kind of testing and protested directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs when we learned that some staff were subject to it," a spokesperson from the State Department told VICE.
U.S. officials protested that the procedure was invasive and undignified, the Post reported.
A spokesperson from the Chinese government claimed that the conducting of the tests was "in error" an that the diplomats were exempt from the test, which is otherwise mandatory.
"We have instructed staff to decline this test if it is asked of them, as was done in the past,” the Chinese state spokesperson told VICE.
The spokesperson added that it was unclear how many diplomats or their family members underwent the procedure.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian reportedly denied Thursday that any Americans were asked to take the test.
"To my knowledge…China has never required US diplomatic staff stationed in China to conduct anal swab tests," Zhao said at a Beijing press briefing.
A State Department spokesperson told Reuters that it was "committed to guaranteeing the safety and security of American diplomats and their families, while preserving their dignity."
The Chinese government has been using anal swab COVID-19 tests to test people who are considered to have a higher risk of contracting the virus. The anal variant of the test is considered to be more precise, picking up traces of the virus in fecal matter that may otherwise be missed in the nasal or oral cavity, according to China’s National Health Commission.

UK looks set to embrace World Economic Forum's idea of immunity passports
The system they said would never happen appears to be arriving soon.
“Don’t forget your passport,” the World Economic Forum recently tweeted - promoting the idea of people having to show documentation to enter gyms, restaurants, and bars.

One country that likes the sound of the idea is the United Kingdom.
UK’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson hinted that Brits might require vaccine passports domestically, to access public venues such as pubs and theaters. The UK government has previously adamantly denied it was working on the so-called vaccine passports.

Amazon stops accepting indie documentariesI
2-25-21
n the past, Amazon has pulled documentaries from the platform that don’t adhere to its preferred political narrative – most notably Hoaxed by Mike Cernovich and Who Killed Michael Brown? by Shelby Steele. But now Amazon is going a step further to ensure narrative cohesion.
Indie documentaries are apparently no longer welcome on the Amazon Prime Video Direct platform – and the way the giant has gone about rejecting any new submissions has been decried as “dystopian” by critics.
The Prime Video Direct was once upon a time created as Amazon’s way to accept documentaries that expanded to genres like vlogs, podcasts, shorts, tutorials, etc.
But according to an Indie Wire report – which cites one of the most discernible marks of current day online censorship – the lack of communication and/or explanation for why exactly the censorship, or a full-fledged purge might be taking place online of new content – Amazon has not only been dropping those, but also “long-running documentary titles from the service, with stakeholders receiving no warning or context for the decisions.”
The report reveals a pattern that Big Tech, Amazon Prime Video Direct included, has clearly been adopting as a matter of policy: gain billions of users worldwide, and then don’t bother giving them anything resembling actual customer service?
How do any of these platforms ever get away with it? The Indie Wire report spells it out: if a filmmaker or a distributor wants to ask Amazon Prime Video Direct why the hell their work was no longer acceptable or featured on the platform, the answer – just like YouTube, or Twitter, for that matter, is – there’s no human being to ask.

Mail-in Ballots and Voting Machines Banned in France
In the aftermath of the 2020 elections, honest Americans are looking to make widespread reforms to the voting systems and procedures used in America.
One America’s Jack Posobiec spoke with a French member of the European Parliament Jérôme Rivière to see whether foreign countries use the same kinds of election practices as the U.S.
Advertisement - story continues below
Riviere told One America News France banned mail-in ballots in 1975 because it was too easy to cheat. Now the Macron government is pushing early voting through machine voting but the senate refused to pass the amendment. Jerome says, “We don’t find it safe enough.”
Ireland and The Netherlands also banned electronic voting in recent years.

Free speech social network Gab says it has been refused by three banks in the last month
2-25-2021
The free-speech-friendly social media platform Gab says it has been refused service by three banks in as many weeks. The platform, popular with those who do not appreciate the speech policing by Big Tech, became especially popular after mainstream social media sites permanently banned President Trump in early January.
The platform registered more than 272 million visits in January, more than the visits recorded by popular news outlets such as TMZ, The Wall Street Journal, and NBC News.
However, its popularity has not gone unnoticed by media outlets who, as with most alternative technology, have smeared the platform for its free speech principles.
These smear campaigns are part of the reason banks are banning Gab. According to Gab’s CEO Andrew Torba, one of the banks said it could no longer be associated with Gab due to “all the bad things the press has written about Gab.”
“Gab follows the law and operates a legal business in the United States,” Torba said, speaking to the National File. “We sell hats, shirts, and a software license to our GabPRO service. We have a community that respects law and order. Yet we have banks and other services banning us left and right.”
He continued to argue that soon, such banks will refuse to serve “churches, businesses, and individuals who refuse the woke orthodoxy of critical theory that has consumed every corner of our culture.”
Gab has also been blacklisted by payment processors such as VISA in recent times, as well as major web hosting platforms. The platform now maintains its own servers in order to stay online.

This region of Ethiopia holds a special place in my heart. I've been there 3 times and traveled around Tigrey extensively. I have walked around the inside of the Church of Saint Mary and when I was there they were still using the oldest known Bible to be used regularly in a Church. In the same area as the Church of Saint Mary is a Monastary where the Ethiopian Orthodox Church claims they house the Biblical Ark Of The Covenant. This breaks my heart.
Killings in Axum by Eritrea troops ‘may amount to war crimes’
Amnesty says in new report that hundreds of civilians were killed by Eritrean troops in Ethiopian town of Axum last November.
alJazeera - 26 Feb 2021
The killings of hundreds of civilians by Eritrean troops in the ancient Ethiopian town of Axum in November last year amounted to “a series of human rights and humanitarian law violations”, according to Amnesty International.
The killings in Axum, located some 187km (116 miles) north of Mekelle, capital of the Tigray region, occurred during the armed conflict between Ethiopia’s federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) last year.
On November 28 and 29, Eritrean troops killed hundreds of civilians in a “coordinated and systematic” manner in order “to terrorize the population into submission”, the report, released on Friday, said.
The 41 witnesses and survivors of the massacre, all ethnic Tigrayans interviewed by Amnesty, said Eritrean forces carried out extrajudicial executions and engaged in widespread looting.
The violations began on November 19 when Eritrean and Ethiopian forces entered Axum, indiscriminately shelling the city and firing at those who tried to flee, Amnesty said, adding that after the massacre, Eritrean forces detained hundreds of residents and threatened renewed killing if they encountered resistance.
The killings, the indiscriminate shelling of Axum and the looting of property “may amount to war crimes”, Amnesty said.
Axum residents identified the perpetrators as Eritrean soldiers, saying that they often rode in trucks with licence plates reading “Eritrea”.
Witnesses said most wore a uniform easily distinguishable from Ethiopian soldiers, some Eritrean soldiers wore the uniform of the Ethiopian army, but were easily identified for their plastic shoes known as “Congo chama” or “shida”, which are popular in Eritrea, witnesses said.
Some soldiers had three scars on each temple near the eye, marking them as Beni-Amir, an ethnic group that straddles Sudan and Eritrea but is absent from Ethiopia.
Language also distinguished the Eritreans: The Tigrinya dialect that Eritrean soldiers speak is distinctive, with its own words and accent.
Ethiopian and Eritrean authorities have made contradictory statements regarding the involvement of Eritrean troops in the Tigray conflict, with some high-ranking officials denying their presence but others acknowledging it, Amnesty added.

Ethiopia’s government has denied the presence of Eritrean soldiers in the conflict.
Last month, the US said all soldiers from Eritrea should leave the Tigray region “immediately”.
Witnesses have estimated that Eritrean soldiers number in the thousands. Eritrean officials have not responded to questions.
The information minister for Eritrea tweeted last month that “the rabid defamation campaign against Eritrea is on the rise again”.
Deliberate targeting of civilians
Amnesty quoted residents who said that the troops also carried out systematic house-to-house raids to kill teenage and adult men.
One man who had found refuge in an unfinished building said he saw a group of six Eritrean soldiers kill a neighbour with a vehicle-mounted heavy machine gun on the street near the Mana Hotel.
“He was standing. I think he was confused. They were probably around 10 metres from him. They shot him in the head,” the man was quoted as saying.
Another man, who had run out of the city, returned at night after the shooting stopped.
“All we could see on the streets were dead bodies and people crying,” he said.
In December, UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet called the situation in Tigray “exceedingly worrying and volatile” after fighting was reported in areas surrounding Mekelle, Sheraro and Axum “in spite of government claims to the contrary”.
“We have corroborated information of gross human rights violations and abuses including indiscriminate attacks against civilians and civilian objects, looting, abductions and sexual violence against women and girls,” Bachelet told reporters.
The conflict shook one of Africa’s most powerful and populous countries, leaving thousands of people dead and causing some 950,000 to flee their homes.
But little is known about the situation for most of Tigray’s six million people, as journalists are blocked from entering, communications are patchy and many aid workers have struggled to obtain permission to enter.

Benchmark JGB yield hits highest in 5 years as bonds fall globally
Japanese government bond yields surged on Friday, with the benchmark 10-year hitting its highest since early 2016, as expectations for higher inflation and government spending hit bonds globally. The yield on the benchmark 10-year JGBs rose 3.5 basis points to 0.175%, its highest level since January 2016 when the Bank of Japan began negative interest rates, and near the top of the range the BOJ is thought to be aiming for the 10-year yield.
BOJ Governor Haruhiko Kuroda has said he would not mind the yield moving up to 20 basis points away from the central bank’s official policy target of zero percent, though the BOJ has steered clear of explicitly clarifying that in its policy statements. The BOJ is widely expected to indicate at its next policy meeting on March 19 that it will tolerate larger swings in bond yields than the current yield target that stretched 20 basis points beyond zero percent.

Texas: Judge rules CDC eviction moratorium unconstitutional
The Hill - John Kruzel
A federal judge in Texas ruled on Thursday that an order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) temporarily halting evictions amid the pandemic is unconstitutional.
In a 21-page ruling, U.S. District Judge John Barker sided with a group of landlords and property managers who alleged in a lawsuit that the CDC's eviction moratorium exceeded the federal government's constitutional authority.
"Although the COVID-19 pandemic persists, so does the Constitution," Barker, a Trump appointee, wrote.
The CDC order, initially issued by former President Trump in September, generally made it a crime for property owners to evict tenants who were unable to pay rent and had no options for affordable housing.
Those protections were extended by Congress and later under President Biden to last through March.
But in Thursday's decision, Barker ruled that Congress lacked the constitutional authority to grant CDC the power to halt evictions nationwide, and said the agency's order threatened to encroach on landlords' rights under state law.
Conservative groups involved in the litigation hailed the decision.
"The court's order today holding the CDC's interference with private property rights under the veil of COVID-19 serves as notice to the Biden administration that the Constitution limits government power," said Kimberly Hermann, a lawyer with Southeastern Legal Foundation, one of the groups that represented the plaintiffs.
Attorneys for the Justice Department who defended the federal government in the case did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Legal experts expect the case to be appealed to the Texas-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit.

Reminder
9/2020
The CDC Is America's New Landlord
Mises Institute | Jeff Deist
This is astonishing, even by 2020 standards.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, operating under the US Department of Health and Human Services, has asserted jurisdiction over private residential leases nationwide. It intends to curtail evictions until at least the end of the year, and in fact its new directive threatens federal criminal penalties against landlords who ignore tenant "declarations" made using CDC forms.
It is unclear, to put it mildly, exactly how this jurisdiction over private contracts and state/local courts flows even to Congress, much less an administrative agency acting on its own. One federal official justifies the bizarre and legally dubious action based on the CDC's broad charter to stop the spread of communicable diseases—a charter at which they've failed miserably with covid:
Congress has delegated broad authority to HHS, the Surgeon General and CDC, to take reasonable efforts to combat the spread of communicable diseases, and frankly I think it makes sense for those authorities abroad because we don't know for any given situation or scenario what steps will be needed to stop the spread. I think, in this particular order, the CDC has made a very compelling case that it is quite problematic at this particular time. It's focused on this particular pandemic, which is obviously the uniquely powerful grasp in the nation's entire history in terms of the effect it's had that for a bunch of reasons in particular, that the home has been sort of the focal point of people social distancing and building, sort of a safe space themselves over the past few months, and also the fact that if people get kicked out, they may end up in overcrowded congregated living facilities or homeless shelters, and that is a potential recipe for a big spread of COVID-19.
Thanks to the oft-criticized but in fact essential Zero Hedge for the nice bit of early and original reporting here—a full day before NPR, Bloomberg, et al.—and for details from a phone conference with CDC officials.
Again, this was announced without congressional input or approval and purely by administrative decree. At least the eviction and mortgage moratoriums in the CARES Act, passed by Congress in March, were enacted by politicians who face voters this fall. And while those earlier moratoriums may well be constitutionally suspect too, at least in times of sanity, they were limited to federally backed rentals and mortgages. The CDC's new action is much broader, applying conceivably to all private residential leases across the country.
The fallout from suspending rental contracts will be deep and long lasting. Many landlords will find their situations untenable and stop making mortgage and property tax payments. New rental housing stock will be depressed, as owners worry about the next suspension of rent payments now that the precedent has been set. After all, why wouldn't moratoriums happen again when the next pandemic or financial crisis hits? Rental housing units will drop in price as more landlords abandon the business—setting the stage for commercial and private equity buyers to grab units on the cheap from individuals and small owners. Ultimately, foreclosures, evictions, and tax sales will happen no matter what the federal government does. The likely outcome is bigger players owning more and more of the rental housing stock, consolidating the permanent renter class and adding to the rootlessness many Americans feel. Even the most modest home ownership creates skin in the game and encourages better neighborhoods, while areas dominated by rentals lack the same incentives for improvement. And the new owners of rental units will pass all the uncertainty, risks, and potential losses on to millions of Americans in the form of higher rents.
Even during the most turbulent periods in American history, including the Great Depression, World War II, and an 1880s tuberculosis outbreak which killed one in seven people, virtually no one expected the federal government to suspend rent. This action by the CDC, in response to a very manageable and retreating cold virus, is the kind of quietly unprecedented development we've come to expect this year. This is a watershed moment for the US: when you destroy trust in contract enforcement you create terrible ripple effects throughout society. Something this radical should not be rushed into place with such little forethought, especially when it amounts to buying votes in a national election. But of course in a managerial state we should expect just this type of shortsighted political consideration to prevail over good sense and justice.

The CDC wants to effectively vitiate contracts: when you tell one party that it need not perform and the other that it cannot sue for nonperformance, you radically alter the bargaining power of those parties. The contract they signed becomes nothing more than an aspirational document, a legislative (or administrative!) tool to be rewritten at the will of politicians. The effects of this moratorium undoubtedly will spill over in unforeseen ways as Americans get used to the idea that their financial obligations can be erased by state edict. The tremendous costs will be borne by all of us, because when contracts are not enforceable every transaction must account for much higher risks.

U.S. Attorney Durham Announces Departure from Office
After serving as the United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut for more than three years, and as a federal prosecutor in Connecticut for more than 38 years, John H. Durham today announced his resignation from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, effective at midnight on February 28.
“My career has been as fulfilling as I could ever have imagined when I graduated from law school way back in 1975,” said U.S. Attorney Durham. “Much of that fulfillment has come from all the people with whom I’ve been blessed to share this workplace, and in our partner law enforcement agencies. My love and respect for this Office and the vitally important work done here have never diminished. It has been a tremendous honor to serve as U.S. Attorney, and as a career prosecutor before that, and I will sorely miss it.”
Prior to his appointment as an interim U.S. Attorney in November 2017 and subsequently as the presidentially appointed U.S. Attorney in February 2018, Mr. Durham served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in various positions in the District of Connecticut for 35 years, prosecuting complex organized crime, violent crime, public corruption and financial fraud matters. From 1978 to 1982, he served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the New Haven State’s Attorney’s Office, and from 1977 to 1978, he served as a Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Leonard C Boyle will serve as Acting U.S. Attorney upon Mr. Durham’s departure.
“The Office will be in the extraordinarily capable hands of Len and our superb supervisory team who, together, guarantee that the proper administration of justice will continue uninterrupted in our District.”
Mr. Boyle has served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney since June 2018, when he returned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office after serving as Deputy Chief State’s Attorney in Connecticut for approximately nine years. He previously served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office from 1986 to 1998, and from 1999 to 2004.
Mr. Boyle is the 53rd U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut, an office that was established in 1789.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is charged with enforcing federal criminal laws in Connecticut and representing the federal government in civil litigation. The Office is composed of approximately 68 Assistant U.S. Attorneys and approximately 54 staff members at offices in New Haven, Hartford and Bridgeport.

Short-sellers take aim at Chinese blockchain firm SOS, shares tumble
Short-sellers Hindenburg Research and Culper Research said on Friday they have taken a short position on Chinese blockchain firm SOS Ltd’s stock, sending the company’s shares down 23%.
In two separate reports, they raised concerns ranging from regulatory risk to alleged false claims by the company about its business. SOS, formerly a consumer-lending company called China Rapid Finance, could not be immediately reached for comment outside business hours in China. SOS shares have nearly doubled in value this year since it outlined plans to invest in cryptocurrency on Jan. 13, benefiting from a rise in institutional support for bitcoin and other digital assets. “Stocks tied to blockchain have been on the run lately, swept up in the euphoria of bitcoin breaking all-time highs. $SOS has ridden this wave,” short-seller Hindenburg said in a tweet.
The short-seller said it visited the address listed as headquarters in the company’s regulatory filing and found it to be a hotel. One of the allegations made by Culper is that SOS has not actually purchased the cryptocurrency mining rigs that it said it did.

U.S. SEC suspends trading in 15 securities due to 'questionable' social media activity
he U.S. securities regulator on Friday suspended trading in the securities of 15 companies because of “questionable trading and social media activity,” the latest in a string of temporary trading halts amid volatile trading in so-called “meme stocks.”
The Securities and Exchange Commission acted because none of the companies have filed any information with the regulator for over a year, it said in a statement. This is the regulator’s third and largest wave of suspensions in response to social media activity. Retail interest in certain stocks, most notably GameStop Corp, has surged in a social media frenzy, leading to volatile trading.
The SEC is continuing to review market and trading data to spot other securities to “to potential attempts to exploit investors during the recent market volatility,” the agency said on Friday.
https://www.reuters.com/article/retail-trading-sec/update-1-u-s-sec-suspends-trading-in-15-securities-due-to-questionable-social-media-activity-idUSL1N2KW2UO
Today's order states that trading is being suspended because of questions about recent increased activity and volatility in the trading of these issuers, as well as the influence of certain social media accounts on that trading activity. The order also states that none of the issuers has filed any information with the SEC or OTC Markets, where the companies' securities are quoted, for over a year. As a result, the SEC suspended trading in the securities of: Bebida Beverage Co. (BBDA); Blue Sphere Corporation (BLSP); Ehouse Global Inc. (EHOS); Eventure Interactive Inc. (EVTI); Eyes on the Go Inc. (AXCG); Green Energy Enterprises Inc. (GYOG); Helix Wind Corp. (HLXW); International Power Group Ltd. (IPWG); Marani Brands Inc. (MRIB); MediaTechnics Corp. (MEDT); Net Talk.com Inc. (NTLK); Patten Energy Solutions Group Inc. (PTTN); PTA Holdings Inc. (PTAH); Universal Apparel & Textile Company (DKGR); and Wisdom Homes of America Inc. (WOFA).
The SEC also recently issued orders temporarily suspending trading in: Bangi Inc. (BNGI); Sylios Corp. (UNGS); Marathon Group Corp. (PDPR); Affinity Beverage Group Inc. (ABVG); All Grade Mining Inc. (HYII); and SpectraScience Inc. (SCIE). Each of these orders stated that the suspensions were due at least in part to questions about whether social media accounts have been attempting to artificially increase the companies' share price.

Trump Appointed Rhode Island U.S. Attorney To Step Down
PROVIDENCE, RI — Rhode Island's U.S. Attorney is stepping down. Aaron Weisman's resignation takes effect Sunday, his office said in a release.
Weisman joins many of his counterparts, including Massachusetts' Andrew Lelling, in the common post-election resignation. Following his election, President Joe Biden asked nearly all prosecutors appointed by former President Donald Trump to step down.
"Serving as United States Attorney for the District of Rhode Island has been the greatest honor of my career," Weisman said. "I am indebted to the hard-working, dedicated, and conscientious professionals with whom I have had the privilege to work alongside at the United States Attorney's Office, and who, day in and day out, carry out the Office's critical justice mission – ensuring the just prosecution of federal-law violations, and that justice be achieved in the civil lawsuits brought by and against the federal government."
Following Weisman's departure, First Assistant United States Attorney Richard B. Myrus will become his acting replacement. The leadership team in the office will remain the same.
"I have no doubt that the Office, working together with its outstanding federal, state, and local law enforcement partners, will continue its exemplary service to all Rhode Islanders," Weisman said.

SAM744 C-32A on go around #3 at Travis AFB-been busy here the last week with the "T" C-17's and the SAM C-17 (7179) that left for Houston was departing Travis when the Nightwatch showed up.
Nao the Nightwatch is being upgraded at Edwards and has had several flights since arriving last week but do not think it was a coincidence it arrived at Travis and had to hold while SAM7179 departed to Houston-cap2
It then did a runway fly by (mebby a touch and go) followed SAM down the central valley and back to Edwards

NYSE begins move to delist Chinese state oil producer CNOOC
The New York Stock Exchange on Friday decided to begin formal delisting of Chinese state oil giant CNOOC Ltd based on an update to an executive order signed by former U.S. President Donald Trump in November last year.
Prohibitions on CNOOC will take effect on March 9, 60 days after the company was added to the list that prohibits U.S. investments, according to a guidance issued by the Treasury Department on Jan. 27. However, the exchange did not disclose a target date for the completion of the delisting.
The Trump administration had last year moved against certain Chinese companies that Washington said were owned or controlled by the Chinese military in an effort to ramp up pressure on Beijing. The NYSE said CNOOC has the right to appeal the delisting decision. The exchange will include any appeal it receives in its application to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which will be submitted on completion of all procedures.
CNOOC could not be immediately reached for comment.
