The Insurrection Act gives U.S. presidents the authority to deploy active duty military to maintain or restore peace in times of crisis. The Insurrection Act was invoked numerous times in the 20th century, most famously when Dwight D. Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne Division to enforce the desegregation of public schools in Little Rock, Arkansas.

But the origins of the Insurrection Act date back more than 200 years to a bizarre chapter in American history—when Aaron Burr plotted to raise an army and establish his own dynasty in either the Louisiana Territory or Mexico.

Burr, a decorated Revolutionary War officer and senator from New York, served as vice president during Thomas Jefferson’s first term. Burr had grand political aspirations, but they were dashed after he killed his rival Alexander Hamilton in a duel in 1804.

Burr was never arrested or tried for Hamilton’s murder, but it effectively ended Burr’s political career. With no prospects in Washington, D.C. or New York, Burr set his sights on the West, namely the newly acquired Louisiana Territory and Mexican-owned lands in the Southwest.

The details of Burr’s plot were never clear, but it involved mustering an army to invade Mexico under the pretense of a war with Spain, and then keeping the conquered land for himself. Burr thought he had an ally in General James Wilkenson, commander of the U.S. Army and first governor of the Louisiana Territory, but when rumors of Burr’s plot leaked into the newspapers, Wilkenson turned on his co-conspirator. In a letter sent on October 21, 1806, Wilkenson spilled the details of the plot to Jefferson without mentioning Burr by name. But Jefferson had already grown concerned enough about Burr’s strange activities that Jefferson had sent his own letter to Secretary of State James Madison asking if the Constitution granted him authority to deploy the army to stop a rebellion. In his reply, Madison said no. “It does not appear that regular Troops can be employed, under any legal provision agst. insurrections,” wrote Madison, “but only agst. expeditions having foreign Countries for the object.”

Both Jefferson and Madison were strict interpreters of the Constitution and wouldn’t dare exercise authority that wasn’t explicitly written in the founding document, so they needed to convince Congress to give Jefferson that power. And to do that, they first needed proof of Burr’s conspiracy. That’s where Wilkenson’s letter comes in.

“Jefferson was looking for a legitimate source of authority on Burr’s plot and he was willing to believe Wilkenson, even though historians suggest that Jefferson knew darn well that Wilkenson was a liar with his own suspect reputation,” says John Fea, a history professor at Messiah College. “But Jefferson needed a source to move the gears to try to stop Burr, who was his biggest fear.”

‘QAnon Shaman’ is seen leading the charge as pro-Trump mob breaks into U.S. Capitol

When supporters of Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol Hill on Wednesday afternoon, a face familiar to QAnon conspiracy theorists was seen leading the break-in.

Jake Angeli, who is better known as the “QAnon Shaman,” was captured on camera multiple times from different sources making his way through the Capitol. He was even photographed inside the Senate chambers.

The photos of this well-known QAnon figure inside the Capitol are a perfect visual representation of just how influential QAnon has been in fomenting anger around unfounded conspiracies about election fraud, eventually leading up to this moment.

Previously, Angeli has been seen protesting outside the Maricopa County, Arizona Elections Office following the spread of falsehoods that the election was being stolen from President Trump after the November election.

The QAnon supporter may stick out like sore thumb in the photos released from the rioting inside the Capitol, but he’s become a fixture at many pro-Trump rallies over the past year as well. At these events, Angeli could often be found shouting about the latest QAnon-related conspiracies.

Angeli has become one of the more recognizable faces of the QAnon movement, which believes President Trump is secretly waging war against the Deep State to take down a global satanic pedophile ring run by his political enemies. The movement, which has no basis in fact, has become increasingly influential over the last few years.

What happened today is not as unprecedented as the political class would have us believe. This is not the first mob that has attacked a government building in the United States this year – courthouses and police stations all over the United States have been attacked by anti-police activists year-round. Only six months ago, Nancy Pelosi decried law enforcement’s work to stop a dangerous mob from burning down a federal building in Portland as “political games” and “abuses of power.”

After today we hope our fellow citizens will say “enough” about the political bullshit from both sides. Do your jobs. If you had enacted policies at any point in the last 50 years that would have kept America safe this year from crime, voter fraud, illegal immigration, and domestic terrorists like Antifa – which government is currently failing to do – the American people would have a lot less to be angry about.

Henry Paulson Returns to Finance, to Run Climate-Focused Fund

This past fall, Henry M. Paulson Jr., the former Treasury secretary, got a call from Paul David Hewson, better known as Bono. The musician-activist-investor had an idea and “an ask”: Bono, who helped found TPG’s $5 billion Rise funds focused on “impact investing,” told Mr. Paulson that the investment firm wanted to create an even bigger platform to focus exclusively on combating climate change — and he wanted Mr. Paulson to run it.

Mr. Paulson, who has spent the last 12 years since leaving his post at the Treasury away from the private sector running his nonprofit institute and working on climate change initiatives, demurred.

“He told me, ‘My dance card is full,’” Bono said of the call. “I thought he’d be amazing,” Bono added, but said he’d been warned by Mr. Paulson’s associates, “There’s just no way.”

This week, after months of calls and meetings that followed with Jon Winkelried, TPG’s co-chief executive — Mr. Paulson’s friend and former colleague when he ran Goldman Sachs — Mr. Paulson will become the executive chairman of a new global fund, TPG Rise Climate.

The move brings Mr. Paulson, 74, back to the finance industry for the first time since he left Goldman to become Treasury secretary in 2006. It may also signal a turning point for the weight and seriousness given to climate-related investments. TPG’s co-founder Jim Coulter is planning to shift much of his focus to the new climate fund.

The young unarmed woman shot and killed by the Capitol Police on Wednesday has been identified.

Ashli Babbit, a 14-year veteran from San Diego who served 4 tours with the US Air Force as a high-level security officer was killed today.

Facial recognition firm claims antifa infiltrated Trump protesters who stormed Capitol

Trump supporters say that antifa members disguised as one of them infiltrated the protesters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.

A retired military officer told The Washington Times that the firm XRVision used its software to do facial recognition of protesters and matched two Philadelphia antifa members to two men inside the Senate.

The source provided the photo match to The Times.

One has a tattoo that indicates he is a Stalinist sympathizer. antifa promotes anarchy through violence and wants the end of America in favor of a Stalinist-state. “No more USA at all” is a protest chant.

XRVision also has identified another man who, while not known to have antifa links, is someone who shows up at climate and Black Lives Matter protests in the West.

Born in Portland, Ore., antifa has mounted a year of violence in that city. The mayor said this week that antifa is trying to destroy the town and called for tougher police measures.

Antifa, which is loosely organized nationwide, exports warriors to other towns.

Before the Nov. 4 election, an antifa chapter sent out on social media a reminder for members to disguise themselves as Trump supporters by wearing the distinctive red Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat.

“On Nov. 4 don’t forget to disguise yourselves as patriots/Trump supporters. Wear MAGA hats. USA flags. A convincing police uniform is even better. This way police and patriots responding to US won’t know who their enemies are and onlookers and the media will think there are Trump supporters rioting so it’s harder to turn popular opinion against us.”

The total market value of cryptocurrencies surpassed $1 trillion for the first time Thursday amid a frenzied and volatile rally in Bitcoin to yet another record.

Active Bitcoin accounts are nearing their all-time high levels of late 2017, according to researcher Flipside Crypto - possibly a sign that some holders are planning to sell. Fewer than 2% of accounts hold 95% of Bitcoin supply, so a few big trades can impact prices. The last big Bitcoin boom began imploding in late 2017.

Some traders pointed to JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s long-term Bitcoin price forecast of $146,000 as possibly fueling the rally. Others said sentiment was boosted by a U.S. regulatory update that allows a class of less volatile coins to be used by banks for payments.

The Times of Israel reported:US vice president was reportedly planning multi-day stop in Jewish state on trip abroad after validating Biden’s electoral victory.

A planned visit to Israel by US Vice President Mike Pence was called off less than two weeks before he was due to arrive, the US Embassy confirmed Wednesday.

No reason was given for the cancellation, which was first reported by the Ynet news site.

Global Food Prices at Six-Year High Are Set to Keep On Climbing

Global food prices reached a six-year high in December and are likely to keep rising into 2021, adding to pressure on household budgets while hunger surges around the world.

A United Nations gauge of food prices has jumped 18% since May, as adverse weather, government measures to safeguard supplies and robust demand helped fuel rallies across agricultural commodities from grains to palm oil. Prices will likely climb further, the UN’s Food & Agriculture Organization said.

The spike threatens to push up broader inflation, making it harder for central banks to provide more stimulus to shore up economies, while stirring memories of food-price crises a decade ago. It’s bad news for consumers whose incomes have been hurt by the Covid-19 crisis, and adds to concerns about global food security that’s being affected by conflicts and weather shocks.

That’s especially true for the poorest countries having to contend with limited social safety nets and purchasing power, according to the FAO. Corn and soy futures rallied to six-year highs as drought threatens crops in South America at a time of surging Chinese demand, while palm oil used in about half of all supermarket goods is near a 10-year high. Protectionist measures are also propping up markets, with Argentinian farmers planning a protest strike after the government suspended corn-export licenses, while wheat giant Russia will curb grain exports from mid-February to tame food inflation.

Commodities priced in dollars often seen as a hedge against inflation should remain supported as the greenback falls further this year, Abbassian said. Plus, an economic recovery in some parts of the world will probably fuel consumer spending and food demand, with weather risks and export restrictions from some grain suppliers aiding prices in the short term, he said. Weather concerns, government intervention and strong exports to China could push agricultural markets higher this year, according to Rabobank International. Soy prices have become expensive enough that the world will need to ration demand, Joe Stone, head of crop merchant Cargill Inc.’s agriculture supply chain and corporate trading, said this week.

The FAO’s food price index has risen for the past seven months, with annual prices capping the highest average in three years. Still, costs remain well below peaks in 2008 and 2011, when soaring prices caused political and economic instability around the world and grain-export bans tightened supply.

Facebook will block President Trump on its platforms, including Instagram, at least until the end of his term, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on Thursday.

“The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden,” Mr. Zuckerberg wrote.

Like most Americans, I was absolutely horrified by the violence that I watched at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. But I had a difficult time trying to understand what I was witnessing. Trump supporters are almost always extremely peaceful, but many of those that were storming the Capitol were being very violent. That didn’t make sense to me. And how in the world did protesters get into the U.S. Capitol in the first place?

Well, it turns out that police actually opened up the barricades that were surrounding the U.S. Capitol and purposely allowed protesters to storm the building. You can see this on video right here…

I have never seen anything like that in my entire life.

And once they were inside the building, they were herded toward particular areas. For example, you can watch one “guard” actually lead protesters up several flights of stairs right here…

Either the U.S. Congress has the worst security personnel that any of us have ever seen, or this was allowed to happen on purpose.

So who arranged for those Antifa buses to have that sort of an escort?

It is almost as if someone was extremely determined to get those Antifa activists to their location so that they could do their job.

Once they got inside the Capitol, the Antifa activists could have done a much better job of disguising themselves.

In fact, one has already been positively identified as a member of Philly Antifa…

If he wanted to pass as a “Trump supporter”, he probably should have covered up the hammer and sickle that are tattooed on the back of his hand…

Perhaps the most famous “protester” from the chaos on Wednesday is “the guy with the Viking horns”.

Well, it turns out that he was photographed at a BLM rally in Arizona wearing the exact same outfit back in June…

Apparently his name is Jake Angeli and he is a “shamanic practitioner”. But on Wednesday he was posing as a hardcore Trump supporter.

So why can’t the mainstream media put any of these pieces together?

It shouldn’t take too much detective work to identify a lot of these people.

So why won’t they do it?

And did you notice that the police let the vast majority of the “protesters” go without arresting them once it was all over?

The mainstream media is insisting that “they will be arrested later”, but a lot of people aren’t buying that.

All of this just seems very odd to me.

Just as a debate about the evidence of election irregularities was about to begin in the halls of Congress, these riots conveniently broke out.

And this is just the beginning. As I keep warning, the radical left will never be satisfied until they accomplish all of their goals.

Electing Joe Biden was just a way to get rid of Trump. The radical left actually doesn’t like Biden either, and they will fight him bitterly if Biden does not go along with their full agenda.

In the end, what they want is a full-blown “revolution” in this country. And as we witnessed on Wednesday, they will go to extreme lengths in order to get what they want.

A flight attendants’ union is seeking to ban members of the pro-Trump mob which stormed the U.S. Capitol building Wednesday from flights out of Washington, D.C.

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, which represents nearly 50,000 flight attendants at 17 airlines, released a statement after chaos ensued on flights to the D.C. area in the days leading up to Wednesday’s riots.

“The mob mentality behavior that took place on several flights to the D.C. area yesterday was unacceptable and threatened the safety and security of every single person onboard. It will not happen again,” Sara Nelson, President of the Association said in a statement Wednesday.

“Some of the people who traveled in our planes yesterday participated in the insurrection at the Capitol today. Their violent and seditious actions at the Capitol today create further concern about their departure from the DC area. Acts against our democracy, our government, and the freedom we claim as Americans must disqualify these individuals from the freedom of flight,” she added.

Earlier this week, on a Delta Air Lines flight carrying Republican Sen. Mitt Romney, some passengers chanted “traitor” on board. Delta said it was aware of the incident and that “our crew quickly engaged and resolved the issue.”

On an American Airlines flight to Dulles International Airport in D.C., passengers shouted and cursed at each other, according to a video posted on Twitter.

The flight attendant unions called for zero tolerance for such incidents. Interfering with the duties of a flight crew member is against the law and unruly passengers can be fined $25,000.

American Airlines will not be selling alcohol on board flights to and from the Washington D.C. area and has increased staffing at D.C.-area airports, an American spokesman said.
