Pfizer co-developer says Covid vaccination will be annual
People around the world will need to get a jab against Covid-19 once a year, at least when it comes to the Pfizer vaccine, BioNTech’s CEO Ugur Sahin said in an interview on Sunday, as he praised the quality of its booster shot.
In an interview with Germany’s Bild newspaper on Sunday, Sahin said he considers the vaccine, co-developed by his company, to be “very effective.”
When asked whether people should be worried about the “breakthrough infections” – in which those vaccinated with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine still developed Covid-19 symptoms – he dismissed such concerns, saying that the jab offers a “90 percent protection” against cases that require intensive care in those aged over 60.
A “very high” level of protection against severe illness lasts for up to nine months, the BioNTech CEO maintained. He said this level starts decreasing “from the fourth month,” however. To maintain the protection, Sahin strongly pushed for booster shots, arguing that they would not just restore levels of antibodies but would potentially help “to break … chains of infection.”
He also encouraged doctors to be “as pragmatic as possible” when it comes to greenlighting vaccination and “not to send people home unvaccinated even though they could be vaccinated without any problems.”
In the future, people might need to get booster shots once a year, the BioNTech CEO believes. He said that he expects protection from a booster shot to “last longer” than the initial immunity one acquires after getting two doses of the vaccine.
“Subsequent … vaccinations may only be needed every year – just like [with] influenza,” he said. Currently, the German Federal Center for Health Education – an agency subordinated to the Health Ministry – recommends a booster shot six months after one gets the second dose of a vaccine. It also says that “booster vaccination makes sense after a minimum interval of about four months.”

Another major red flag about Covid vaccines and death
This one coming from data on more than 4 million vaccinated Swedes
People appear to die at rates 20 percent or more above normal for weeks after receiving their second Covid vaccine dose, according to data from a huge Swedish study.
The figures are buried in a preprint paper on vaccine effectiveness released last month. The headline finding of the paper was that protection against Covid, including severe cases, plunged after six months.
The researchers did not explicitly examine deaths from all causes - which have risen since the summer in many countries that have highly vaccinated populations.
But on page 32 of the 34-page report, a chart shows that 3,939 of 4.03 million Swedes who received the second dose died less than two weeks later.

Over a one-year period, that rate of death would translate into an annual mortality rate of about 2.5 percent a year - 1 person in 40 - almost three times the overall Swedish average. In a typical year, about 1 in 115 Swedes dies.
Of course, that huge gap does not account for an important confounding factor: younger people, who have a much lower risk of death, were less likely to be vaccinated.
But Sweden also provides detailed data on overall deaths nationally, making a crude baseline comparison possible.
That data shows that from an average of about 1,650 Swedes died every week between 2015 and 2019 between April 1 and early August, the period in which almost all of those 4 million Swedes in the study received their second dose. Death rates hardly varied over those years.

In other words, during the spring and summer, Sweden normally has about 3,300 deaths every two weeks - not just in the people who received vaccines, but in all 10.6 million of its people.
So let’s make an incredibly conservative assumption, one that strongly favors the vaccines. (The next couple paragraphs are a bit tricky, but I hope the payoff is worth taking the time to read and think through them.)
Assume that the group of people who received vaccines were so much older and unhealthier than those who didn’t that they would have accounted for every single death in Sweden whether or not they were vaccinated. In other words, assume that even if the vaccines did not exist, every person in Sweden who died would have been part of that group of 4.03 million people the researchers tracked - while not one other person would have died.
In that case, those 4.03 million people “should” have about 3,300 deaths every two weeks. They CANNOT HAVE MORE - because all of Sweden does not have more.
But the vaccines do exist. Those 4.03 million people received them. And in the two weeks after receiving the second vaccine dose, as a group, the researchers reported they had not about 3,300 deaths, but 3,939.

The abandoned SUV was later located by police officers in a driveway, according to scanner audio. An officer said on the police radio that a bullet struck the windshield but there was no evidence anyone inside the vehicle was hit. According to the scanner, police found the suspect’s ID in the vehicle and a Ford key on him.
Another witness told Heavy she saw a red SUV driving down the road. It hit a male who went flying into the air in front of her. It continued on. She heard screaming.
A woman wrote Heavy, “(A relative) lives in Waukesha, a black guy with dreads knocked on her door shortly after the incident at the parade. She wouldn’t let him in and he proceeded to go across the street trying to break into a building. My daughter called 911 with a description and they said they think he was driving the SUV that drove into all the people.” Police have not confirmed the suspect description, but they did describe the suspect as possibly being a “black male” on the scanner.

But anyone who enters the state will be forced to pay $145 to get a Covid test
The state's Covid roadmap states any TGA-approved tests should be sufficient
The new rule has sparked criticism, with calls for the government to pay for it
Visitors to Queensland will have to pay $145 for a PCR test to prove they are Covid-free once borders re-open - with Annastacia Palaszczuk's government refusing to allow use of the far cheaper - and fully approved - rapid antigen tests.
Queensland will reopen for tourists once 80 per cent of its vaccine-eligible residents are double-jabbed - which could be as early as December 6.
But Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said inbound travellers will have to fork out for the gold-standard PCR Covid test from a private clinic, with costs starting from $145 per person.
The insistence on the PCR tests - which will be required for anyone over 16 - comes despite Queensland's Covid roadmap stating tests approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration - such as the rapid antigen tests - would be sufficient.
There are a dozen different brands of rapid antigen tests - priced $7 to $20 - already TGA-approved and available in chemists.
'We don’t want to swap tests just because one might be cheaper,' Ms D’Ath said.
While foreign visitors to Australia must get a PCR test to enter the country, Queensland is imposing the cost on fellow citizens whereas other 'open' states like NSW and Victoria do not.

Painter and decorator Jeff Rodgers threatened to smash the knee caps of his teenage victim who he massaged with baby oil, plied with viagra and sexually abused as he slept if he spoke a word to anyone.
Rodgers would often host booze-filled parties with young teenage boys at his South Yorkshire home when his wife was away and dubbed the evenings “boys’ night”.
The 58-year-old made his victim watch porn and perform sex acts and told the boy he would “take off his knee caps” if he told anyone.
Rodgers’s offending first began in 2003 when his victim was just 12 or 13 years old and ended in 2006 when Rodgers was himself 44 years old.
He admitted two counts of indecency with a child, two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child and one count of sexual activity with a child.
A judge at Sheffield Crown Court believed he had made enough progress in serving his sentence and subsequent rehabilitation that he would be best served with a suspended jail term.
Judge Slater sentenced Rodgers to a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, citing a previous conviction and sentence and his recent rehabilitation.
