‘Rust’ Movie Script Never Called For Gun To Be Fired -Hollywood Reporter

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -A crew member working on the “Rust” movie last month said in a lawsuit that the script never called for a gun to be fired during a rehearsal scene with Alec Baldwin, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Baldwin killed a cinematographer when the gun, loaded with a live round, went off on the set.

The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday by Mamie Mitchell, who was the script supervisor on the low-budget Western being made in New Mexico. It names Baldwin and the movie producers.

Mitchell is claiming assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and deliberate infliction of harm, the Hollywood Reporter said on Wednesday, citing a copy of the court papers it obtained.

Mitchell and her attorney, Gloria Allred, were due to hold a news conference in Los Angeles later on Wednesday.

The lawsuit is the second to be filed over the shooting. Authorities in Santa Fe are still investigating and no criminal charges have been filed.

It said the script called for three tight camera shots for the scene – one of Baldwin’s eyes, another on a bloodstain, and a third on Baldwin’s torso “as he reached his hand down to the holster and removed the gun. There was nothing in the script about the gun being discharged by defendant Baldwin or by any other person,” the lawsuit says.

Baldwin and the producers of the movie could not immediately be reached for comment.

Texas Woman Pleads Guilty to Schemes to Procure Adoptions from Uganda and Poland through Bribery and Fraud

A Texas woman who was a program manager at an Ohio-based international adoption agency pleaded guilty today in the Northern District of Ohio to schemes to procure adoptions of Ugandan and Polish children by bribing Ugandan officials and defrauding U.S. authorities.

According to court documents, Debra Parris, 69, of Lake Dallas, engaged in a scheme with others to bribe Ugandan officials to procure adoptions of Ugandan children by families in the United States. These bribes included payments to (a) probation officers intended to ensure favorable probation reports recommending that a particular child be placed into an orphanage; (b) court registrars to influence the assignment of particular cases to “adoption-friendly” judges; and (c) High Court judges to issue favorable guardianship orders for the adoption agency’s clients. In her plea agreement, Parris also admitted that she continued to direct the adoption agency’s clients to work with her alleged co-conspirator Dorah Mirembe, after knowing that Mirembe caused clients of the adoption agency to provide false information to the U.S. State Department for the purpose of misleading it in its adjudication of visa applications.

According to court documents, in a second scheme, after alleged co-conspirator Margaret Cole, the adoption agency’s Executive Director, learned that clients of the adoption agency determined they could not care for one of the two Polish children they were set to adopt, Parris and her co-conspirator took steps to transfer the Polish child to Parris’s relatives, who were not eligible for intercountry adoption. In her plea agreement, Parris also admitted that after the child was injured and hospitalized, Parris agreed with her co-conspirator to conceal their improper conduct from the U.S. State Department in an attempt to continue profiting from these adoptions.

Parris pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and commit visa fraud in connection with the Uganda scheme, and conspiracy to defraud the United States in connection with the Poland scheme. She is scheduled to be sentenced on March 9, 2022. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Trial against Cole is scheduled to commence on Feb. 7, 2022. Mirembe remains at large.

4.5 ARMED FORCES OF A STATE

Members of the armed forces of a State, including members of all groups that are part of the armed forces of a State, but excluding certain medical and religious personnel, receive combatant status (i.e., its rights, duties, and liabilities) by virtue of that

Man Sentenced to 210 Years in Prison for Creating and Distributing Depictions of the Sadistic Sexual Abuse of Children

EVANSVILLE – A Spencer County, Indiana man was sentenced to 210 years in federal prison for sexually exploiting two young children and sharing the images and videos he created.

Trent Walker, 36, began sexually abusing one of the victims when she was a toddler. The abuse continued over a six-year period and was sadistic in nature. During the sentencing hearing, Judge Richard L. Young, who presided, noted that Walker’s abuse of the child could fairly be described as torture. Walker also abused a six-year-old child for a several-month period. Both victims were in Walker’s care when he abused them.

Walker created hundreds of images and videos of his sexual abuse of both victims, which he shared with an online group he ran. The group was dedicated to sadistically exploiting small children, some as young as infants. Walker served as the group’s moderator. He encouraged others to share sadistic abuse material, trained others how to conceal their identities online to avoid detection, and coached members of the group on how to abuse young children psychologically, physically, and sexually.

“The vile conduct that Walker inflicted on his victims is reprehensible and will impact these children for the rest of their lives,” said U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Myers. “This sentence ensures that Trent Walker will never have another opportunity to victimize another child and hopefully bring some peace to his victims.”

“The defendant’s repeated sadistic abuse clearly demonstrates he cannot be allowed to be free in the community,” said FBI Indianapolis Acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Middleton. “This investigation demonstrates the commitment of the FBI and our law enforcement partners to protect those who can’t protect themselves and ensure individuals who commit such heinous acts are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

“Indiana State Police investigators work diligently every day, all across Indiana, and in close collaboration with its law enforcement partners, to help bring to justice those who seek to perpetuate the victimization of children,” said Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas G. Carter.

“The cooperative team effort with our state and federal law enforcement partners, allowed for the successful prosecution of this dangerous predator. The damage that he inflicted in this world cannot be undone, but this sentence ensures that he will never burden a child with his evil ever again,” said Spencer County Sheriff Kelli Reinke.

This case was the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Indiana State Police.

According to Assistant United States Attorney Tiffany J. Preston, who prosecuted the case, said Walker will serve consecutive prison sentences totaling 210 years and was ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to each victim.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. British Columbia's government declared a province-wide state of emergency effective noon PT Wednesday, Premier John Horgan said at a news conference.

The announcement comes after record-breaking rainfall caused major flooding and several mudslides that left hundreds of people in the Lower Mainland stranded or cut off from essential services.

According to the premier, the declaration will give the government greater flexibility to help keep goods moving, as major road closures have hampered the supply chain.

Thousands of people have been displaced from their homes and one woman was confirmed dead on Tuesday after a mudslide swept across a portion of B.C.'s Highway 99.

"We expect to confirm even more fatalities in the coming days," said Horgan.

Fraser Valley situation

Abbotsford city officials said at a separate news conference Wednesday that 184 people were rescued from the Sumas Prairie area overnight with support from the local police, fire and search and rescue teams.

Officials said another 300 people remained stranded as of 7:30 a.m., with the water level in the area at that time at approximately 3.5 metres. Higher-than-normal tides are due with a full moon expected Wednesday night.

Officials urged residents of the low-lying Sumas Prairie area to evacuate on Tuesday night due to the threat of widespread flooding. As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, the city had shut off water in the area.

At a news conference Tuesday night, city officials said a pump station was in imminent danger of failing. The Barrowtown Pump Station was the only thing keeping excess water flow from the Fraser River from entering the flooded area and was also in danger of being inundated with floodwaters flowing north from the Nooksack River in Washington state.

Following that announcement, city staff and volunteers from Abbotsford and neighbouring Chilliwack worked overnight to build a 25-metre dam to hold back rising waters coming in from across the U.S. border.

Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun said Wednesday morning the dam has bought the city some much-needed time and protection.

He also reported there have been no deaths in the city so far as a result of flooding.

The University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford has cancelled classes for the rest of the week, and schools in Chilliwack and Hope are closed Wednesday.

RV dealership fire

The Abbotsford Police Department is warning of a large structural fire at an RV dealership in the area of Sumas Mountain Road and North Parallel Road.

As of 7:45 a.m. PT, according to officials, around 100 RVs are on fire out of about 500 on the lot.

Residents who remain in the area are being asked to stay indoors as the dangerous situation is being assessed and the smoke could be toxic.

"After relying on news sources growing up," Miller sees "how biased and incorrect" they are now that he was part of the story, he said, "and just the way they slant their coverage was horrifying to me. ... I think it's really troubling for America."

While the Pentagon knew it would have to get involved on Jan. 6, Miller said, if he had sent troops to the Capitol without being invited, "I would have been accused of launching a coup."

Sending in the Guard "isn't a video game," and he had to ensure the troops "were properly equipped, to make sure that things were coordinated with law enforcement," he explained.

"When you're in a huge fight, you just don't roll in," he added. "That's a recipe for disaster."

House Democrats along with Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger voted on Wednesday to censure Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and strip him from his committee assignments. Gosar is the second Republican that Democrats have removed from their assignments.

The resolution passed with 223-207 votes. Republicans Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger joined 221 Democrats in this unprecedented move.

Three Republicans did not vote.

Gosar is a hero of the Republican base.

Democrats were angered about a comic video Rep. Gosar posted on social media.

Convicted rapist receives no jail time for crimes against teen girls, as judge rules, 'incarceration isn’t appropriate'

A New York man convicted of raping multiple teenage girls while he was in high school will not spend any time behind bars after a judge determined that "incarceration isn't appropriate."

Christopher Belter, formerly of Lewiston, New York, pled guilty in 2019 to raping one young girl and sexually abusing three others during parties at his parents' wealthy home just outside Niagara Falls. Belter, now 20, was between 16 and 17 years old when he committed the crimes. His victims were between the ages of 15 and 16 years old.

The maximum punishment for his actions would have been eight years in a state prison. But on Tuesday, he was sentenced to eight years of probation instead, and ordered to register as a sex offender, WKBW-reported.

Niagara County Court Judge Matthew J. Murphy IIIsaid he "agonized" over the sentencing, but in the end, he felt that prison time was not "appropriate."

"I'm not ashamed to say that I actually prayed over what is the appropriate sentence in this case because there was great pain. There was great harm. There were multiple crimes committed in the case," Murphy explained, according to WKBW. "It seems to me that a sentence that involves incarceration or partial incarceration isn't appropriate, so I am going to sentence you to probation."

The ruling reportedly shocked those inside the courtroom, which included one of Belter's victims. The Washington Post further elaborated on the fallout:

Steven M. Cohen, an attorney for one of the victims, denounced the judge's sentencing, saying to reporters Tuesday, "Justice was not done here." He told The Washington Post on Wednesday that his client, who was joined by some of the other victims in the courtroom, was "deeply disappointed" in the sentencing.

"My client threw up in the ladies room following the sentencing," Cohen said. "If Chris Belter was not a White defendant from a rich and influential family, in my experience … he would surely have been sentenced to prison."

Belter's attorney, Barry Covert, declined to comment to the Post. But according to the Buffalo News, he remarked after the sentencing that his client now sorely regrets his crimes.

"He is tremendously remorseful for what he's done," Covert said. "There are clients who are never able to empathize with their victims no matter how much counseling they receive. Chris isn't one of them."

Judge Murphy noted that Belter's probation would "be like a sword hanging over your head for the next eight years."

2. Prosecutor Kraus doctored evidence( a video. The only video out of hundreds which, the prosecution claims, falsely shows Kyle pointing his gun at Joshua Zaminsky) and sent it to the defense.

The federal judge overseeing British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell's sex trafficking case is set to be recommended for higher court - sparking concerns about possible ethical conflicts.

New York Senator Chuck Schumer announced on Tuesday he is going to recommend to President Joe Biden that he nominate Alison J. Nathan, 49, to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

The nomination almost guarantees that Nathan will be appointed to serve in the state's second highest court, the New York Times reports, as presidents typically defer to their party's senior lawmaker in each state when choosing its judges and attorneys.

If nominated, Nathan would have to be confirmed by the Senate.

But during the process, she will be able to remain on Maxwell's high-profile case - sparking fears she could be swayed into being less critical of Biden's government during the case.

Stephen Gillers, a professor at New York University School of Law, said Maxwell's lawyers might ask the judge to recuse herself from the trial, claiming that the Biden administration would be in a position to derail her promotion if she did not favor the government in the trial.

But he admitted that a promotion like Nathan's would not provide a basis for such a request.

'This does not even come close to the sort of interest that leads to recusal,' he said.

He also noted that Nathan would be just the second openly gay woman to serve on the Second Circuit.

Nathan is also known for her independence, the Times reports, and in at least two cases, she issued 'blistering criticism' of the US Attorney's Office in Manhattan, after it was accused of failing to turn over potentially favorable evidence to the defense before a trial.

Nathan is a graduate of Cornell Law School and served as a law clerk to Justice John Paul Stevens in the Supreme Court's 2001 - 2002 term.

She later became an associate White House counsel, a special counsel to the solicitor general's office and a special assistant to former President Barack Obama.

In 2011, Obama appointed her to the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

In his statement announcing his recommendation, Schumer said her 'experience, legal brilliance, love of the rule of law and perspective would be invaluable in ensuring the federal judiciary fulfills its obligation to ensure equal justice for all.'

Rebecca Roiphe, a professor at New York Law School, meanwhile said the only theoretical issue she could foresee is if Nathan were confirmed quickly and her new duties pulled her away 'from a very time-consuming trial.

'But I think that's unlikely given the timeline here,' she noted.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave an update Wednesday on the federal government's response to the disastrous flooding taking place in British Columbia. He said hundreds of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members have been deployed to assist with the catastrophic flooding in the province.

The prime minister added the CAF will be helping with evacuations, providing supplies and whatever else is needed.

This comes after the province declared a state of emergency due to the flooding across B.C. The declaration gives the province various powers from stopping hoarding to restricting travel in and out of flood zones.

Former Crestwood Mayor Pleads Guilty to Participating in Bribery Scheme Involving Red-Light Camera Services

CHICAGO — The former mayor of Crestwood, Ill., pleaded guilty today to a federal corruption charge and admitted improperly soliciting and receiving benefits from a representative of a red-light camera company that provided services to the southwest suburb.

LOUIS PRESTA, 71, of Crestwood, pleaded guilty to one count of using a facility in interstate commerce in aid of bribery and official misconduct, and one count of filing a false income tax return. The bribery count is punishable by up to five years in federal prison, while the tax offense carries a maximum sentence of three years. U.S. District Judge Thomas M. Durkin set sentencing for Feb. 23, 2022.

The guilty plea was announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; Emmerson Buie, Jr., Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI; and Justin Campbell, Special Agent-in-Charge of the IRS Criminal Investigation Division in Chicago. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Christopher J. Stetler and James P. Durkin.

According to Presta’s plea agreement with the government, the red-light camera company provided camera services to Crestwood that enabled the municipality to issue tickets to motorists for certain traffic violations. While the company was attempting to provide additional such services to Crestwood, then-Mayor Presta asked for and accepted benefits from a representative of the company. Presta told the red-light camera company’s representative that Presta would ensure that the percentage of red-light traffic violations that Presta approved would remain high or increase – in exchange for a cash payment to Presta from the representative, the plea agreement states.

The plea agreement describes a Feb. 27, 2018, telephone call between Presta and the company’s representative in which Presta updated the representative on the higher percentage of red-light traffic violations that Crestwood approved the previous week. During the call, Presta stated, “We’re starting to get the numbers again… you got a new sheriff in town.” Shortly after that call, Presta on March 7, 2018, received a $5,000 cash bribe from the representative of the company. When subsequently questioned by federal law enforcement about his receipt of the $5,000 bribe payment, Presta falsely stated that he neither asked for nor received the $5,000 bribe.

In addition to the bribery scheme, Presta admitted in the plea agreement that he willfully filed a false personal income tax return for the calendar year 2015.

Defendant Sentenced to 96 Months in Prison for Arson Committed to Threaten Victim in “R. Kelly” Case

Earlier today, at the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, Michael Williams was sentenced by United States District Judge Ann M. Donnelly to 96 months’ imprisonment for setting fire to a vehicle at the home of a victim-witness who was expected to testify at trial in United States v. Robert Sylvester Kelly, also known as “R. Kelly,” a case pending in the Eastern District of New York (“the Kelly case”). Williams set the car on fire in order to intimidate the victim-witness and prevent her from cooperating with the government’s investigation in the case. The amount of restitution will be determined by the Court at a later date.

Breon Peace, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Ricky J. Patel, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge, Homeland Security Investigations, New York (HSI), and Dermot F. Shea, Commissioner, New York City Police Department (NYPD), announced the sentence.

“In a violent act designed to instill fear and stop a witness from testifying at trial, Williams set fire to the victim’s vehicle in the middle of the night while it was parked outside of a residence occupied by four adults and two children. Intimidating witnesses and threatening the safety of crime victims undermine the very fabric of our judicial system and will never be tolerated,” stated United States Attorney Peace. “This Office will bring all of its resources to bear against those who commit dangerous acts of violence to silence victims and interfere with the administration of justice.” Mr. Peace expressed his appreciation to the HSI Field Offices in Fort Lauderdale and Tampa, Florida; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Field Offices in Savannah, Georgia, and Tampa, Florida; the Florida Bureau of Fire, Arson & Explosives Investigations; the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Florida; the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office, Florida; the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Florida and the Valdosta Police Department, Georgia, for their assistance in this case.

“Williams attempted to use violence and intimidation to divert the course of justice and prevent a victim’s voice from being heard. HSI continues to stand alongside our partners to maintain the integrity of the judicial process and support the brave individuals who come forward to testify in criminal proceedings,” stated HSI Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Patel.

On June 11, 2020, Williams poured gasoline around an SUV parked outside of a residence in Florida where a victim-witness in the Kelly case was staying and set fire to the vehicle. At the time the arson was committed, there were four adults, including the victim-witness in the Kelly case, and two children inside the home. Williams committed the arson to prevent the victim-witness from continuing to cooperate in the Kelly case. The victim-witness’s mother called 911 and told the 911 operator that her grandchildren, whose cries can be heard in the background of the call, were in the home and they were unsure if it was safe to remain in the house given the fire risk outside. The vehicle, leased by the victim’s father, was heavily damaged. Fire investigators also detected an accelerant along the outside perimeter of the residence. Williams had previously made internet searches about the detonation properties of fertilizer and diesel fuel, witness intimidation and witness tampering, and countries that do not have extradition agreements with the United States.

The government’s case is being handled by the Office’s Civil Rights Section. Assistant United States Attorneys Maria Cruz Melendez, Elizabeth Geddes and Nadia Shihata are in charge of the prosecution.

Defendant Sentenced to Additional Eight Years for Slashing A Correctional Officer At New York Federal Jail

A New York man was sentenced today to 30 years in prison for attempting to provide material support and resources to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, aka ISIS. The defendant was also sentenced to 100 months, or more than eight years’, imprisonment for assaulting a federal correctional officer and possessing contraband at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, to run consecutive to the terrorism sentence.

Ali Saleh, 28, of Queens, pleaded guilty to attempting to provide material support to ISIS in July 2018. According to court documents, starting in 2013, Saleh swore an oath of allegiance to ISIS and embraced ISIS’s directive to either travel to the Middle East or take action at home in support of ISIS. On Aug. 25, 2014, Saleh stated online, “I’m ready to die for the Caliphate, prison is nothing.” On Aug. 28, 2014, Saleh stated online, “Lets be clear the Muslims in the khilafah [caliphate] need help, the one who is capable to go over and help the Muslims must go and help.” That same day, Saleh made an airline reservation to travel from New York to Turkey, but was ultimately prevented from traveling because his parents took away his passport.

“Saleh made numerous attempts to travel overseas to join ISIS, and when those efforts failed, attempted to assist others in joining the terrorist organization,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen for the Justice Department’s National Security Division. “Once arrested and detained, he attacked a correctional officer with an improvised weapon. With the sentences handed down today, he is being held accountable for these crimes. The National Security Division is committed to identifying and holding accountable those who seek to provide material support to foreign terrorist organizations and we will be unyielding in our efforts to bring to justice those who commit violence against the men and women in law enforcement and corrections. I want to thank the agents, analysts and prosecutors who are responsible for this case.”

“Today’s sentence demonstrates the strong commitment of this office and its law enforcement partners to rooting out and stopping their efforts to support terrorist attacks at home or abroad,” said U.S. Attorney Breon Peace for the Eastern District of New York. “Saleh is also held accountable for his vicious and premeditated attack on a federal correctional officer while in pre-trial detention.”

“Ali Saleh’s attempts to support ISIS, and his subsequent attack on a federal correctional officer, resulted in the penalties enforced upon him today,” said Assistant Director in Charge Michael J. Driscoll of the FBI’s New York Field Office. “The FBI’s JTTF in New York, along with our partners, continues to lead the way in preventing and intercepting threats posed by those like Saleh, who seek to harm our citizens at home and overseas.”

Saleh then redirected his efforts to facilitating others’ support of ISIS. In October 2014, Saleh communicated with an ISIS supporter in Mali through an online messaging platform and sent a $500 wire transfer to fund that person’s travel to Syria. Around the same time, Saleh communicated with several others to facilitate their support of ISIS, including known ISIS supporters in the United Kingdom and Australia.

Federal Indictments Charge Department of Veterans Affairs Employees With Pocketing Cash From Vendors

CHICAGO — Two employees of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs pocketed cash from vendors in exchange for steering them orders for medical equipment, according to indictments returned in federal court in Chicago.

ANDREW LEE and KIMBERLY A. DYSON worked as Prosthetic Clerks in the Veterans Health Administration Prosthetics Service in Chicago. As part of their duties, Lee and Dyson selected vendors from which to order medical equipment for VA patients, and then paid the vendors using government purchase cards. In exchange for their efforts with certain vendors, Lee and Dyson allegedly received cash payments from individuals at the vendor companies.

Lee, 66, of Chicago, is charged with one count of wire fraud. Dyson, 49, of Chicago, is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery and four counts of bribery.

The charges were announced by John R. Lausch, Jr., United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois; and Gavin McClaren, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the Department of Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General’s Central Field Office. The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Heidi Manschreck.

“Schemes to fraudulently corrupt the procurement process cheat the government and deserving bidders,” said U.S. Attorney Lausch. “We will work aggressively with our law enforcement partners to safeguard our nation’s taxpayers.”

“The corruption of VA employees cannot be tolerated,” said Acting SAC McClaren. “These alleged fraudulent activities erode public trust and undermine the value of fair market competition. The VA OIG appreciates the US Attorney’s Office for its commitment in helping hold these defendants accountable.”

Lee and Dyson were charged in separate indictments returned Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

United States v. Lee, et al, 21 CR 703

The charges allege that Lee schemed with DARREN A. SMITH, who operated a medical distribution company in Bolingbrook, Ill., to place orders for medical equipment from Smith’s company in exchange for cash kickbacks to Lee. Lee allegedly placed orders with Smith’s company for unnecessary and more costly monthly rentals of certain medical equipment – instead of purchasing the equipment as VA physicians had ordered – so that the VA would pay more money to Smith’s company. The scheme fraudulently caused the VA to overpay Smith’s company by more than $1.38 million from 2016 to 2020. In exchange, Lee pocketed kickbacks from Smith of at least $220,000, the indictment states.

In addition to the wire fraud count against Lee, the indictment charges Smith, 57, of Hazel Crest, Ill., with seven counts of wire fraud.

United States v. Dyson, et al, 21 CR 705

The charges accuse Dyson of conspiring with IRVIN R. LUCAS, IV, who owned a medical supply company in Romeoville, Ill., to place orders for medical equipment from Lucas’s company in exchange for cash payments to Dyson. The indictment describes several instances in which Dyson placed orders with Lucas’s company and then sent text messages to Lucas asking for certain amounts of cash. Lucas allegedly paid Dyson by transferring money into her checking account or providing her with a debit card to withdraw the funds. From 2018 to 2020, Dyson accepted at least $39,850 from Lucas for steering the orders to his company, the indictment states.

In addition to the conspiracy and bribery counts against Dyson, the indictment charges Lucas, 40, of North Hollywood, Calif., with one count of bribery conspiracy.

A former Vinita preacher was indicted this week for sexually abusing five minors whose ages ranged from 7 to 16 years old when the abuse occurred, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson.

Roy Edward Williams, 63, was charged with Coercion and Enticement of a Minor in Indian Country (Counts 1,3,5,6, and 8); Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor in Indian Country (Counts 2,4,9); Abusive Sexual Contact of a Minor Between 12 and 16 Years Old in Indian Country (Count 7); and Possession of Child Pornography (Count 11).

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and FBI encourage any other victims of Williams to come forward and contact the FBI Oklahoma City Field Office at (405) 290-7770.

Williams is alleged to have committed the sex crimes starting on or around November 2002 and as late as December 2018. According to the indictment, Williams also took sexually explicit photographs of several of the victims, paid or offered something of value to several victims immediately following the sexual abuse, and threatened several victims to prevent them from reporting the abuse to others. The defendant was further found in possession of child pornography on June 24, 2019. During the period of the described abuse, Williams was a preacher at Bunker Hill Baptist in Vinita.

Williams was previously charged in Craig County District Court. However, charges were dismissed in April 2021 as Williams is a Cherokee citizen and the alleged crimes occurred in or near Vinita, which is within the Cherokee Nation Reservation. The Cherokee Nation Attorney General’s Office then filed tribal charges against Williams in April, and he is currently in tribal custody awaiting trial. This week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office also filed charges in the case.

An indictment is merely an accusation. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The FBI, Craig County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service are the investigative agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Leah Paisner and Edward Snow are prosecuting the case.

Last-minute calls to crossbenchers have been made in a bid to find one more vote to save the controversial pandemic bill after former Labor MP Adem Somyurek revealed he will vote against the legislation.

Attorney-General Jaclyn Symes was forced to jump on the phones to ring a number of crossbenchers in hopes of saving the pandemic bill after former Labor minister Adem Somyurek declared he would vote against the legislation.

Mr Somyurek, who successfully applied to have his suspension lifted on Wednesday after he was banned for failing to disclose his vaccination status, told the Herald Sun of his intention to block passage of the bill.

He said the powers would give too much authority to Premier Daniel Andrews in what was “essentially an elective dictatorship”.

The Andrews government had expected to win the vote in the upper house but the last-minute revelation from Mr Somyurek could see the vote delayed until the next seating of parliament in two weeks rather than lose the ballot.

It would allow them time to find one more crossbencher but could lead to concessions being made.

It's not known if Wednesday night's dash to secure one more crossbench vote was successful.

If the government cannot pass the bill through before the expiry of the State of Emergency on December 15, they will not be able to enforce any pandemic orders.

A number of changes were forced into the bill to secure the votes of three crossbenchers - Greens MP Samantha Ratnam, Animal Justice MP Andy Meddick and Reason Party leader Fiona Patten - on Monday.

Under the Public Health and Wellbeing Amendment (pandemic management) Bill 2021, Premier Daniel Andrews and Health Minister Martin Foley would be able to declare a pandemic and extend it three months at a time if deemed necessary.

Public health advice will need to be released within seven days instead of 14 days after a decision is made.

The maximum fine for a person who failed to comply with a health order, knowing it could case serious health risks to other people, has been halved from $90,500 for aggravated offences.

There will also be more parliamentary oversight of pandemic orders.

For whatever reason, USGS is still reporting a lot of earthquakes, planet wide. The Canary Islands has been rocking and rolling for a few days again, EQ's in Gulf of California have been ignored as have EQ's on the west side of Mexico, many of them offshore. The South Sandwich Islands(near Antarctica) have gone unreported. I use a filter on the RQ reports, only quakes above 3.0, so a few significant quakes are unreported. Gulf of CA for instance have been fairly consistent at 3.7 up to 4.3, same for west side Mexico. S. Sandwich has been consistently in the 5's.

he investigation’s findings bring new scrutiny to Walker, who earlier this year was lauded for his candor in publicly recounting how dysfunction at the Pentagon stalled the National Guard’s response as supporters of President Donald Trump brutalized police and panicked lawmakers pleaded for help. Speaking at a joint Senate hearing on March 3, Walker recalled having a quick reaction force (QRF) geared up and said he was frustrated by the speed at which senior defense officials were responding. He told senators it was 5:08 p.m. when he received approval to deploy.

The Capitol was breached at 1:50 p.m.

Three weeks later, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appointed him House sergeant-at-arms, saying Walker was a “leader of great integrity” and that he would be “an important asset to the House, particularly in light of the January 6 insurrection.”

Walker did not respond to multiple requests for comment. McCarthy, through a spokesperson, declined to comment. It is unclear from the inspector general’s report whether investigators asked Walker about there being two deployment orders from McCarthy. A person close to Walker said the retired general stands by his congressional testimony and disputes that he was told he could deploy forces to the Capitol before 5 p.m. Like others, this person spoke on the condition of anonymity citing the issue’s ongoing sensitivity.

A spokesperson for the inspector general’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

[So]Long-time Democrat Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-NC) will announce his retirement from Congress and has informed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) of his decision, according to sources on Capitol Hill.

Butterfield’s office did not confirm the congressman would be retiring. However, the office told Spectrum News 1, “The official announcement will be made later today or tomorrow.”

While serving his tenth term in Congress, Butterfield has voted with the speaker 100 percent of the time in the current 117th Congress, not turning away from helping Pelosi pass partisan agenda ideas such as the infrastructure package.

The congressman’s retirement leaves his seat open for a brutal Democrat primary for new candidates vying for his seat.

However, Republicans

Earlier this month, the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC), the House Republican campaign arm, announced they added Butterfield to their list of seats they were hoping to pick off during the election. After sources said Butterfield would retire, NRCC Communications Director Michael McAdams said, “Democrats have two choices: retire or lose. The smart ones are retiring.”

Butterfield’s announcement makes him the second congressional Democrat from North Carolina to announce his retirement. Rep. David Price (D-NC), another loyal confidant to Pelosi, announced his retirement last month. Price, who has been in office since 1987, besides for two years, said, “It’s not an easy decision but one I feel confident in … I’m very grateful for the people who have made this period of service possible.”

Emails obtained via an open records request provide a picture of the politics behind the players who formulated and fed the Alfa Bank theory via Michael Sussmann to the FBI.

“Do the f-cking alfa bank secret comms story, it is hugely important,” Fusion GPS’s Peter Fritsch pushed a media contact in the final weeks before the November 2016 general election, according to emails obtained by an open records request. “Call David Dagon at Georgia tech,” Fritsch would then insist when the Reuters News investigative reporter countered that the problem with the story was an inability to authenticate the data.

While Dagon may have been an expert in the data crunching, emails recently obtained by The Federalist from Georgia Tech reveal Dagon was something more—he was an anti-Trump, Russia-collusion conspiracy theorist.

Dagon’s name first became connected with the Alfa Bank story when Special Counsel John Durham indicted Michael Sussmann two months ago, charging the Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer with lying to FBI General Counsel James Baker.

What the Indictment Says about the Alfa Bank Story

According to the indictment, when Sussmann met with Baker on September 19, 2016, and provided the top FBI lawyer with “white papers” and data files purporting to establish a secret communications channel between the Trump organization and the now famous Russia-connected Alfa Bank, Sussmann falsely claimed he was not there on behalf of a client. In truth, though, Sussmann was working both for the Clinton campaign and an unnamed “U.S. technology industry executive,” the indictment charged.

The 27-page speaking indictment then detailed the origins of the Alfa Bank story. In July 2016, a computer researcher, using the moniker “Tea Leaves” and referred to in the Sussmann indictment as “Originator-1,” “had assembled purported DNS data reflecting apparent DNS lookups between Russian Bank-1 and an email domain, ‘mail1.trump-email.com.” “Tea Leaves,” a business associate of Tech-Executive 1, shared her information with Tech-Executive 1 and others, with Tech-Executive 1 alerting Sussmann to the data.

According to the indictment, Tech Executive-1 later “exploited his access to non-public data at multiple Internet companies to conduct opposition research concerning Trump,” and enlisted “the assistance of researchers at a U.S.-based university who were receiving and analyzing Internet data in connection with a pending federal government cybersecurity research contract.”

'Now it's time for governments to step back and for Australians to take their life back,' he said during a visit to the Tooheys brewery in Sydney on Thursday.

'We aren't in favour of mandatory vaccines imposed by the Government. Businesses can make their own choices on the law but we aren't about telling them or Australians what to do.

'Vaccines are only mandatory in cases where you have health workers working with vulnerable people.

'That's what our medical advice has always been and, as we get above 80 per cent in particular... they should be able to go to a get a cup of coffee in Brisbane regardless of whether you've had a vaccine or not.'

It comes after two Liberal senators and Pauline Hanson's One Nation vowed to withhold support from the Government unless Mr Morrison takes action to stop vaccine mandates.

A new coloring book is helping kids draw clear lines between COVID-19 and the vaccines.

More than 2,000 copies of the coloring book, "Emma RNA Saves the Day," were delivered recently to public schools in Massachusetts.

UMass Chan Medical School is offering the coloring books for free to schools or anyone who wants to download a copy from its website.

Author Angela Messmer-Blust, an assistant professor at the school, said her 5-year-old daughter is the inspiration behind using a "super girl" named Emma RNA to represent a COVID-19 vaccine.

With her friends Auntie Body and Mister T, Emma saves the world from a dangerous new villain named Spike Man.

"We really wanted a way to use some of the analogies to explain the science in a fun way, so we hope to take some of the fear out of it for the kids and parents and other adults who may be questioning is this safe?" Messmer-Blust said. "There's a lot of misinformation out there, so this kind of cuts through the noise a little bit."

Messmer-Blust said the book is written for kids in grades 5 through 8, but many adults have told her it helped them better understand how vaccines work and debunked some common myths, including the false theory that vaccines can somehow change a person's DNA.

Tobacco and whiskey have helped build Mitch McConnell’s political career. Tobacco giants Altria Group Inc. and Reynolds American Inc. are two of Mitch McConnell’s top five career campaign PAC contributors. And three of the Senate Republican leader’s top five individual donors have ties to the Kentucky-based maker of Jack Daniel’s whiskey.

Those are among the results of the Center for Public Integrity’s review of CQ MoneyLine information on McConnell’s contribution history for both campaign accounts and leadership PACs, dating back to before his first Senate campaign in 1984. The Center’s probe of McConnell’s finances marks the second in a series of pieces on top donors to Congressional leaders.

Addison Mitchell “Mitch” McConnell, 68, a former Congressional aide and Department of Justice staffer, was elected Jefferson County, Kentucky judge-executive in 1977 and again in 1981. In 1984, McConnell narrowly defeated Democratic incumbent Walter Huddleston to win a U.S. Senate seat by just a few thousand votes. McConnell won in 1990, 1996, and 2008 by narrow margins, garnering at most 55 percent of the vote; his 2002 victory was far more comfortable. Those close races required a lot of money, and McConnell has risen to the challenge, amassing more than $47 million for his campaign committees over his career. In 1989 he established the Bluegrass Committee, a leadership PAC through which he began distributing contributions to fellow Senate Republicans and potential candidates. The PAC has distributed money to 36 of McConnell’s 40 current GOP colleagues. It’s paid off — in 2003, McConnell became the Senate Republican Whip and in 2007, his party made him Senate Minority Leader.

McConnell has strong ties to the tobacco industry and has received more money from tobacco interests than any member of Congress, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. That’s hardly a surprise, though, as Kentucky is the nation’s second-largest tobacco producer, and is tops in the production of burley tobacco, an air-dried variety used to make cigarettes.

He is also known for his opposition to campaign finance restrictions, such as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002. After the legislation was enacted over his filibuster attempts, McConnell sued to overturn the law, but the U.S. Supreme Court eventually upheld most of the bill’s provisions. His wife, Elaine Chao, served as secretary of labor for eight years under President George W. Bush.

Of the more than $47.5 million McConnell has raised, nearly $27.5 million comes from individuals. At least $251,700 or about one percent of his grand total comes from his five top donors. The top ten PACs combined to give McConnell at least $1,049,341, more than eight percent of his overall total.

Rupert Murdoch’s news empire has revealed plans for a new television channel in the UK.

A job advert briefly published on the website of News UK reveals the company is “planning to launch a new TV station, which will run through primetime evening hours and comprise of three key programmes.”

The advert for a series producer states that the new output will be a “traditional TV offering as well as delivering an online product.” The programme currently recruiting is described as a “daily factual entertainment studio show” and requests candidates have a background in comedy.

It is not known when the channel will launch, but applications for the role close on 22 September, suggesting the project is due to take shape soon.

However it appears Murdoch’s return to British television, which had been the subject of speculation for weeks, was not meant to be revealed. After i contacted the company for comment, the web page detailing the company’s plans was immediately removed.

Murdoch moves into broadcasting

The revelation follows speculation that Murdoch wants to launch a UK version of his Fox News channel, which has proved both popular with right-wing Americans and highly profitable.

In March News UK hired former CBS News president and Fox News vice president David Rhodes as its head of broadcasting. His Linkedin profile states: “See what we’ll do on the screen in the coming months.”

The move would be the latest foray into broadcasting for the company, which bought radio stations talkSport, talkRadio and Virgin Radio in 2016, and recently launched Times Radio.

The company has already invested in state-of-the-art studios at its central London headquarters, which are currently being used to create online only content.

Fox News rivals

The plans come two years after Murdoch sold Sky to Comcast, which he founded in 1989, for £29.7 billion, leaving him without a player in the TV news stakes.

News UK’s new station is not the only right-wing TV station in the works. A rival project is also being devised by Sir Robbie Gibb, Theresa May’s former Downing Street director of communications.

Sir Robbie is helping to raise funds for GB News, which promises to provide an opinionated alternative to the claimed “woke” values expressed by the BBC. The channel has been awarded a licence by Ofcom to broadcast on Freeview.

TBI’s Human Trafficking Unit, Chattanooga Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Tennessee Human Trafficking Task Force began the two-day investigation on November 10. Officers placed several decoy advertisements on websites linked to prostitution and commercial sex. They were seeking to identify those seeking to have sex with minors.

Ghislaine Maxwell, charged with aiding and abetting the sexual predations of pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, once rested “a high-heeled boot” on Boris Johnson’s thigh at anOxfordcommon room, the prime minister’s sister has revealed.

“It’s hard not to feel a batsqueak of pity for Ghislaine Maxwell — 500 days and counting in solitary confinement,” Rachel Johnson wrote in the Spectator, where her brother worked as editor before his rise to power.

Johnson describes Maxwell as “a shiny glamazon with naughty eyes holding court astride a table” at the junior common room atBalliol college,while resting her high-heeled boot “on my brother Boris’s thigh.” Maxwell gave her a “pitying glance” and invited her to a party that was eventually disbanded by “her father, Bob, coming out in a towelling robe and telling us all to go home.”

Bob Maxwell, who was rumored to have worked withIsraeli intelligence,was found dead in the Atlantic Ocean in 1991, having presumably fallen overboard from his yacht Lady Ghislaine off the Canary Islands. He was buried in Israel.

His daughter Ghislaine was arrested in the US in July 2020, and charged with six federal crimes, including sex trafficking, enticement of minors and perjury, in relation to her dealings with Epstein. The controversial financier pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of minors in 2008 but was given a lenient settlement. He was arrested in July 2019 when new details of abuse – also implicating Maxwell – emerged, and was found dead inside a New York jail a month later, officially due to suicide.

Maxwell’s trial is scheduled to start at the end of November. In her first interview to the media since the arrest, she told the Daily Mail last week that her conditions inside the Brooklyn jail were a “living hell” of solitary confinement, rotten food and sleep deprivation.

“I have been assaulted and abused for almost a year and a half,” she said, complaining that the lights in her cell were never turned off, and that “creepy” guards would stare at her while she showered. Maxwell also insisted she was innocent and “played no part in Epstein's crimes,” which she said she would prove in court.

Ex-Craig city councilman sentenced as sex offender

A former Craig city councilman convicted of internet luring of a child and other charges has been sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in Colorado’s sex offender supervision program.

A First District Court judge sentenced 50-year-old Brian MacKenzie on Friday, the district’s attorney general’s office said Monday. A Jefferson County jury convicted MacKenzie in September of internet luring of a child with intent to exploit, internet sexual exploitation of a child and attempted sexual assault of a child, the office said in a statement.

MacKenzie must register as a sex offender and participate in treatment.

MacKenzie was arrested in 2019 during an internet sting operation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in which officers posed as an underage girl with whom MacKenzie arranged a meeting in Lakewood, authorities said. He was taken into custody en route to Lakewood, they said.

MacKenzie resigned from the Craig City Council after his arrest.

Fueled by their donations, Mitch McConnell pushes special tax break for bourbon industry

The Senate Republican majority leader and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) announced the bill on Wednesday.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and fellow Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul announced a bill on Wednesday to provide special corporate tax advantages for liquor distillers.

A look at McConnell’s campaign finance history may offer a big clue as to why: hundreds of thousands of dollars in contributions from the alcoholic beverages sector.

The Advancing Growth in the Economy through Distilled Spirits Act would renew an expiring provision from President Donald Trump’s 2017 tax cut bill that allows for the deduction of interest expenses related to bourbon inventory when the expenses are paid, rather then when the bourbon is bottled and sold. In a joint press release, Paul said the bill would “preserve Kentucky’s signature Bourbon industry by boosting job creation and maintaining a level playing field between Bourbon and whiskey producers at home and their competitors abroad.”

But back in 2010, an examination by the non-partisan Center for Public Integrity calculated the largest individual donors to McConnell over his decades-long tenure in Congress. Of the top five largest career donors, three had ties to the Kentucky-based Brown-Forman Corporation. Brown-Forman’s products include Jack Daniel’s whiskey and Old Forester bourbon.

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, in 2014 — the last time McConnell was up for re-election — he also received more in donations from the beer, wine, and liquor sector than any other senator. The total for that campaign alone: $144,950.

So far this year, McConnell has received $5,000 from Brown-Forman’s corporate PAC and $10,000 from the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America.

As majority leader, McConnell has spent most of the 116th Congress ensuring no lawmaking happens. He has boasted of being the “grim reaper” who blocks legislation from even coming to the floor and has so stanched the flow of bills that even his Republican colleagues have publicly complained. He has introduced little legislation, aside from housekeeping resolutions required to organize the Senate. So when the Kentucky Republican announces he will push for a bill, it is unusual.

While Paul is in just his second term in the Senate, he too has received tens of thousands in contributions from the alcohol industry.

America’s beloved liquid spirit is caught in the cross hairs of Washington and Beijing’s trade battle.

This week, China threatened to slap a 25 percent levy on 106 U.S. products, including types of whiskey such as bourbon.

“Bourbon is truly Americana,” began whiskey collector Bill Thomas, proprietor of Washington D.C.’s Jack Rose Saloon, which is popular for its extensive bourbon selection.

“When you talk about tariffs on steel or aluminum or anything else, bourbon just can’t be produced anywhere else than the United States,” he said. “So in many ways, this is a symbolic target on American culture because bourbon is so intertwined with who we are.”

China’s list of tariff targets came less than 24 hours after President Donald Trump unveiled a list of proposed tariffs on Chinese imports involving the robotics, information technology and aerospace industry.

Trump suggested another counterpunch late Thursday to the tune of an additional $100 billion in tariffs against China. In response, a Chinese Ministry of Commerce representative said Friday, that the U.S. “is very arrogant” and that “China is prepared and will not hesitate” to react.

US Whiskey Exports To EU Sink 27%, As Imports Of Irish Whiskey Climb

Farmers aren't the only people suffering under President Trump's trade war, American whiskey producers are experiencing a big plunge in exports as well. However, Irish whiskey makers are unintended beneficiaries of the tariffs.

The European Union's (EU) 25% retaliatory tariff on American Whiskey caused exports to the EU to sink 27% year over year in 2019, the U.S. International Trade Commission said mid-February. The EU is the U.S. spirits industry’s largest export market.

American whiskey makes up 65% of total U.S. spirits exports, according to the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS), the largest trade group for the spirits industry. American whiskey exports total $996 million, with 52%, or $514 million, going to the EU. Exports to the EU fell from $700 million in 2018.

“The data is clear. These tariffs are chipping away at American Whiskey’s brand equity in our top export markets. These great American Whiskey products that have been the toast of the global cocktail scene are struggling under the weight of the EU tariffs,” said Chris Swonger, president and chief executive of Discus, in a written statement.

Meanwhile, imports of Irish Whiskey jumped 14.3% to $794 million, lifting revenues for the entire category 5.6% to $1.1 billion.

The whiskey tariffs came about as retaliation to the Trump administration's 2018 tariffs on steel and aluminum from most countries, including the EU. On June 22, 2018, the EU instituted its own tariffs on 180 types of U.S. products, worth more than $3 billion.

Belarus brings some migrants in from cold at Polish border

Hundreds of migrants who were camped in the cold on the Poland-Belarus border have been moved to a nearby warehouse in Belarusian territory, reports said Wednesday, with some still harboring hopes of entering the European Union.

The move came a day after a melee broke out in the border crisis, with migrants throwing stones at Polish forces massed on their side of the razor-wire fence, injuring 12, and they responded with water cannons and tear gas. Warsaw accused Belarusian forces of instigating the conflict, while the government in Minsk denounced Poland’s “violent actions.”

The migrants, mostly from the Middle East, have been stuck at the border since Nov. 8. Most are fleeing conflict or despair at home and want to reach Germany or other western European countries.

The West has accused Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko of using the migrants as pawns to destabilize the 27-nation bloc in retaliation for its sanctions on his authoritarian regime. Belarus denies orchestrating the crisis, which has seen migrants entering the country since summer and then trying to cross into Poland, Lithuania and Latvia.

On Wednesday, Poland’s Border Guard tweeted a video showing migrants with bags and backpacks being directed by Belarus forces away from the camp near the Kuznica border crossing, and Polish Deputy Interior Minister Maciej Wasik said he had received information they were leaving on buses.

The Belarus state news agency Belta reported they were moved to a heated, warehouse-like building about 500 meters (yards) from the border near Bruzgi, giving them the chance to rest indoors after many days in tents.

One of them, an Iraqi Kurd named Miran Ali, took video in the warehouse and said Belarusian authorities told them they wouldn’t be forced to return home. In response, the migrants chanted “Belarus! Belarus! Belarus!” in gratitude.

“This is the joy and happiness of Kurdish people after they were told that they will not be sent back to Kurdistan by force, and that they can wait here until Germany or one of the cities in Germany take them there,” Ali said as he recorded the video. “These people are expressing happiness and optimism in this cold and ugly camp.”

They sat on blankets, most still wrapped in heavy jackets and raincoats.

Belta reported about 1,000 migrants agreed Tuesday to move into the building to “wait for the situation to resolve,” and it quoted some of them as saying that they are not planning to return to their home countries. Most of the building’s space was allocated for the migrants, who were offered food, water, medical aid, mattresses and pillows, the news agency said.

Some migrants opted to stay camped near the border. Poland’s Defense Ministry posted video showing people and tents there, with some smoke rising from campfires.

The next steps in the crisis are unclear. Although arrangements have been made for flights from Minsk to Iraq to repatriate those who want to return, it is uncertain how many will go. Iraq has appealed for its citizens to fly home, telling them the way into the EU is closed. The first flight from Minsk for the voluntary repatriation to Iraq is expected Thursday.

Belarus also released video from its State Border Committee, alleging it showed Lithuanian border guards with dogs pushing migrants away from the Belarus-Lithuania frontier Tuesday night.

Lithuania denied the claim, releasing its own video of the incident. It blamed Belarusian officials for pushing the group of 13 migrants toward the Lithuanian side and preventing them from returning to Belarus after being stopped by the Lithuanian guards.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel spoke with Lukashenko for the second time this week, stressing that migrants should be given the chance to return to their home countries with the help of the UNHCR and the International Organization for Migration.

Steve Alter, a spokesman for the German Interior Ministry, denied Berlin was planning to bring the migrants to Germany. The “road to Belarus is a dead end for most people who want to go to Germany. There are no plans to approve taking people in,” he said.

German government spokesman Steffen Seibert said U.N. aid was starting to reach the migrants and it was important to ensure humanitarian agencies gain permanent access, even if it meant talking to Lukashenko, whose legitimacy is questioned by the West following a disputed 2020 reelection.

“It makes sense to also talk to those who have the opportunity to change this situation in Minsk, even when it comes to a ruler whose legitimacy, like all other European member states, Germany does not recognize,” he said, adding that Merkel has coordinated with other EU partners and remains committed to the bloc’s stance of tightening sanctions on Minsk.

Meanwhile, Polish President Andrzej Duda said there is “no military threat” at the border from the primarily civilian police and border guards that are there to prevent illegal migration. The presence of the Polish military there is chiefly as a backup, he said on a visit to Montenegro.

Duda stressed that Poland won’t accept any international decisions on the border standoff that are made without Warsaw’s participation, referring to the talks involving Merkel and Lukashenko.

Information on both sides of the border is hard to verify due to government restrictions. A state of emergency in Poland is keeping journalists, human rights workers and others away from the border along a zone that is 3 kilometers (2 miles) deep, and Belarus limits the presence of independent journalists.

Estonia, which also is affected by migrant movements but to a lesser degree, said it would build a temporary razor wire barrier of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) on its eastern border with Russia as an interim security solution.

This northernmost of the three Baltic nations with a population of 1.3 million, Estonia shares a 294-kilometer (183-mile) land border with Russia and a 340-kilometer border with Latvia. It does not neighbor Belarus.

Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets told broadcaster ERR on Tuesday that the crisis stems from Lukashenko’s bid to be recognized by the West as president and have EU sanctions lifted, stressing they must stay in place.

“In our view, it is important that the European Union remains united and exerts its influence on Belarus through action,” Liimets said, adding new sanctions should be imposed as soon as possible.

(CNN)Challenges to the Biden administration's vaccine mandate targeting employers with more than 100 employees will be consolidated and heard by the Ohio-based 6th US Circuit Court of Appeals after it was chosen Tuesday by a ping-pong ball lottery.

The conservative-leaning appeals court could help determine the ultimate fate of President Joe Biden's most controversial push to date to ensure that as many Americans as possible are vaccinated against Covid-19, especially after the emergence of a new strain of the virus.

The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Will Hear the Court Challenge to OSHA’s Vax-or-Test Rule

Yesterday afternoon, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals was selected to determine the fate of OSHA’s “vaccine or test” rule for large employers. The Court will decide whether or not the rule, adopted as an emergency temporary standard, is a valid exercise of OSHA’s regulatory powers. The Court will also have the authority to lift the Fifth Circuit’s stay of the rule or keep it in place while it decides the issue.

Under the federal rules for multidistrict litigation, the Sixth Circuit (which is located in Cincinnati and covers the states of Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee) was chosen by random draw out of the 12 courts of appeal in which challenges to the rule were filed and its decision will apply nationwide. The consolidated case will be heard by a three-judge panel of the Court. No matter what the Sixth Circuit decides, the dispute will likely end up before the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Posse Comitatus Act does not apply where Congress has expressly authorized use of the military to execute the law. Congress has done so in three ways, by giving a branch of the armed forces civilian law enforcement authority, by establishing general rules for certain types of assistance, and by addressing individual cases and circumstances with more narrowly crafted legislation. Thus it has vested the Coast Guard, a branch of the armed forces, with broad law enforcement responsibilities. Second, over the years it has passed a fairly extensive array of particularized statutes, like those permitting the President to call out the armed forces in times of insurrection and domestic violence, 10 U.S.C. §§ 331-335. Finally, it has enacted general legislation authorizing the armed forces to share information and equipment with civilian law enforcement agencies, 10 U.S.C. §§ 371-382.

The legislation contains both explicit grants of authority and restrictions on the use of that authority for military assistance to the police federal, state and local particularly in the form of information and equipment, 10 U.S.C. §§ 371-382. Section 371 specifically authorizes the armed forces to share information acquired during military operations and in fact encourages the armed forces to plan their activities with an eye to the production of incidental civilian benefits. The section allows the use of military undercover agents and the collection of intelligence concerning civilian activities only where there is a nexus to an underlying military purpose. Under sections 372 through 374, military equipment and facilities may be made available to civilian authorities; members of the armed forces may train civilian police on the operation and maintenance of equipment and may provide them with expert advice; and military personnel may be employed to maintain and operate the equipment supplied.

The Great Narrative and the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Before we discuss the actual content of The Great Narrative event, let’s look at what is meant by a “Great Narrative”. In many forms of media narrative is defined as “a way of presenting connected events in order to tell a good story”, or “the telling of related events in a cohesive format that centers around a central theme or idea”. In our daily lives a narrative can be seen as the way we as humans come to understand the world around us. We form narratives or stories about our political realities and our interpersonal relationships.

Additionally, in philosophy the term narrative can take on an even deeper meaning. Recently, Tim Hinchliffe at Sociable wrote about the concept of narrative in relation to philosophy:

“The idea of a great narrative is something that the French philosopher Jean-Francois Lyotard called a “grand narrative,” (aka “metanarrative“) which, according to Philo-Notes, “functions to legitimize power, authority, and social customs” — everything that the great reset is trying to achieve.

Authoritarians use great narratives to legitimize their own power, and they do this by claiming to have knowledge and understanding that speaks to a universal truth.

At the same time, authoritarians use these grand narratives in an “attempt to translate alternative accounts into their own language and to suppress all objections to what they themselves are saying.”

With this understanding, the WEF’s call for a “Great Narrative” should be seen for what it truly is – an attempt to displace all other visions of the future of humankind by placing the WEF and their partners at the heart of a narrative which paints them as the heroes of our time. This fits perfectly with the Technocratic philosophy employed by WEF founder Klaus Schwab. He envisions a future where “public-private partnerships” of government and private business and so-called philanthropies use their wealth, influence, and power to design the future they believe is best for humanity. In actuality, the Technocrat philosophy merges with a Transhumanist mindset that sees humanity as limited, flawed, and in need of augmentation by technology in order to accelerate what Schwab calls the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

On the first day of The Great Narrative, Klaus Schwab sat with Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, for a panel titled Narrating the Future. “We are here to develop the Great Narrative, a story for the future,” Schwab stated during the panel. “We meet today to develop a great narrative; a story for the future. I quote His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, when H.H. said “The future belongs to those who can imagine it, design it, and execute it.” We are here now to imagine the future, design the future, and then execute.”

Minister Al Gergawi spoke about the public “looking for a way for a ‘Great Transformation'”. The Minister did his part to pay lip service to social justice by using all the usual buzzwords employed by the WEF and the UN while mentioning the world’s largest 1% owning more wealth than ever before, the world’s poor living on less than a dollar a day, and climate change. Al Gergawi also repeatedly mentioned that “the future belongs to those who imagine it, design it, and implement it”, as well as discussing the next stage of human evolution and the role that technology will play.

“Human evolution has been through phases – we discovered fire, we discovered the wheel – today with technology, whatever will happen the next 50 years will be totally different. So for us, as humanity, for hundreds of thousands of years we have been at a normal pace,” UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad Abdullah Al Gergawi stated. “The current pace is complex because for the first time with technology we are putting our society, economy, our government, our life together, and there’s just one platform. Whatever will happen in the future will be based on what we design now.”

The Minister also spoke of the need for government to evolve as an institution in the same way we have seen private sector institutions evolve. This is likely a reference to the fact that the prime mission of the WEF is to change the role of government and private businesses until there is hardly a distinction between state and private power.

Another topic which was heavily discussed was the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the metaverse. The metaverse will be discussed in part 2 of this series. The 4IR is another pet project of Klaus Schwab which was first announced in December 2015. To put it simply, the 4IR is the digital panopticon of the future, where digital surveillance is omnipresent and humanity uses digital technology to alter our lives. Often associated with terms like the Internet of Things, the Internet of Bodies, the Internet of Humans, and the Internet of Senses, this world will be powered by 5G and 6G technology. Of course, for Schwab and other globalists, the 4IR also lends itself towards more central planning and top-down control. The goal is a track and trace society where all transactions are logged, every person has a digital ID that can be tracked, and social malcontents are locked out of society via social credit scores.

At one point Schwab noted the relevance of having The Great Narrative meeting in the UAE. “When I wrote my book and I introduced this notion of the 4IR as the shaping force for our future, we felt it was very important that we really work together on a global level so we use the potential of the 4IR for the benefit of mankind because technology also has certain pitfalls and can be used to the detriment of humankind,” Schwab stated at The Great Narrative. “So we established this network of centers around the world, and you were the first country which responded positively. I would like to thank the Minister for the great cooperation we have here with our Center for 4IR, and I am also very happy that we have here assembled economists, sociologists, but also representatives, scientists who can really enlighten us about all those new technologies.”

During the panel The Next 50 Years, Klaus Schwab talked with His Excellency Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, about his vision of the next 50 years for his country. Mr. Al Olama is also a partner of the WEF. It is during this panel that the decision to host The Great Narrative in the UAE becomes clear. The UAE has spent the last few years promoting itself as a hotbed for digital technology developments, specifically AI and robotics. Minister Al Olama even joked that the goal of his job was to eventually turn himself into a form of AI.

Minister Al Olama also discussed how hotels, taxis, and other industries have been revolutionized by digital technology, and the inevitability of the economy becoming digitized. “There isn’t going to be two economies,” he stated. “We are right now at this inflection point where we can confidently say – traditional economy, digital economy, but at one point, in the near future, as the 4IR becomes more mainstream, there is only going to be a digital economy. Or an economy, if it’s not purely digital, is enabled by digital means.”

Al Olama also discusses his nation’s investments into 5G technology and how these investments will help them lead the way into the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

This discussion of artificial intelligence, the 4IR, a cashless digital society, and the Great Reset are absolutely vital for the average person to comprehend. These unelected technocrats continue to host events and release reports as if the people of the world are asking for their help and guidance. They hide under a veneer of benevolence, but the facade is wearing thin and the people of the world are beginning to question the true mission of the WEF, the Gates Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and similar players. To understand their true intentions we should take note of the actions of the WEF’s partnered nations and organizations. This includes the United Arab Emirates.

A Technocratic Authoritarianism

While the political leaders of the UAE and Klaus Schwab may promote themselves as the heroes of our times, we should judge them according to their actions and the company they keep, not the flowery language they use to distract us. The simple fact is the UAE has a horrible record on human rights. The nation is known for deporting those who renounce Islam, limited press freedoms, and enforcing elements of Sharia law.

In 2020, the UAE announced the creation of a human rights council to address human rights issues, but critics have accused the leadership of “whitewashing” the problem. Despite promises of change and relaxing of laws around alcohol and divorce, the UAE is still struggling to maintain an image of a free nation.

In September, European Union legislators called on the UAE to free several prominent human rights activists and other “peaceful dissidents” imprisoned in the country. They also called for a boycott of the ongoing Expo 2020 in Dubai. (The organizers of the Expo themselves recently announced a commitment to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals which are part of the Agenda 2030 & The Great Reset.) The resolution called for the “immediate and unconditional” release of Ahmed Mansoor, Mohammed al-Roken and Nasser bin Ghaith.

Mansoor is a 52-year-old man who was arrested in 2017 and sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of publishing false information and “insulting the status and prestige of the UAE”, including in posts on social media platforms. Al-Roken is a human rights lawyer currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being found guilty of attempting to overthrow the government in a July 2013 mass trial. Bin Ghaith was also imprisoned for 10 years in March 2017 for criticizing UAE authorities via social media.

According to the 2021 Human Rights Watch report on the UAE:

“In 2020, United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities continued to invest in a “soft power” strategy aimed at painting the country as a progressive, tolerant, and rights-respecting nation, yet its fierce intolerance of criticism was on full display with the continued unjust imprisonment of leading human rights activist Ahmed Mansoor, academic Nasser bin Ghaith, and other many activists and dissidents, some of whom had completed their sentences as long as three years ago and remain detained without a clear legal basis.

Scores of activists, academics, and lawyers are serving lengthy sentences in UAE prisons, in many cases following unfair trials on vague and broad charges that violate their rights to free expression and association.”

At first glance, these accusations of human rights violations make the WEF’s decision to host their Great Narrative event in the UAE an odd one. After all, why would an organization which claims it’s motivated by creating a world which is more inclusive, diverse, sustainable, and equitable turn a blind eye to these disturbing concerns and partner with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates? However, this choice makes perfect sense once you accept that the WEF’s language about fairness and designing a better future for humanity is utter nonsense.

In their vision of the future, you will own nothing and be happy as authoritarian nations like the UAE partner with Big Tech to monitor their populations’ use of carbon, electricity, and other resources while assigning a social credit score to determine each individual’s access to privileges like travel and work. This is the “Great Narrative” the Technocrats wish to imprint on our minds and hearts in this “Decade of Transformation”.

Who Will Design the Future?

When Klaus Schwab opened The Great Narrative conference he referenced difficulties in “shaping the future”. Specifically, he said there are 3 obstacles standing in the way of the World Economic Forum’s Great Reset agenda.

First, Schwab believes “people have become much more self-centered, and to a certain extent, egoistic.”This, he says, makes it “more difficult to create a compromise because shaping the future, designing the future usually needs a common will of the people.” To me this sounds like a subtle admission that the people of the world are more interested in their own personal visions of the future as opposed to the Technocrats vision. This could be spun to say that people are “self-centered” or “egoistic”, but another way of looking at it is that the public does not desire to have a global governance scheme which attempts to centrally plan their lives.

The second obstacle faced by Schwab and the WEF is that “we all have become so much crisis-focused with the pandemic”. The 3rd obstacle to transforming the world is that, “the world has become so complex” and “simple solutions to complex problems do not suffice anymore.” Schwab also mentioned that there is no longer a separation between social, political, technological, ecological – “it’s all interwoven”.

“It’s very difficult in such a situation to really bring everybody together and to imagine and to design the future,” Schwab stated. Again, this seems to indicate that Schwab is aware that he will not be able to willingly force every nation or population into the Technocrats Great Reset/Great Narrative vision. There will be holdouts. There will be resistance and non-compliance to the top down, centralized vision of the Predator Class.

However, despite this resistance from the working class people of the world, there is still a grave danger that the Technocrats will, indeed, achieve their vision. The Predator Class behind The Great Reset, Agenda 2030, etc., have spent decades (if not centuries) planning and investing trillions of dollars into their attempts at worldwide societal transformation. These psychopaths are fully aware of the importance of outlining a vision of the future and taking concrete steps to design said future. While they work night and day to bring their nightmare scenario into existence the average person is painfully unaware of the despotic plans unfolding before them. Even those who are aware of the Great Reset plans often lack in tangible actions to prevent being swallowed up by the Technocratic-Transhumanist takeover.

If we aim to break free from the Great Reseters we must have our own vision of the future that we hope to design. We ought to spend more time working on manifesting our visions of a free, thriving, empowered humanity where individual liberty, self-ownership, and bodily autonomy are celebrated. We have the power to imagine, design, and execute our vision of the future. We have the power to create the People’s Reset.

The Biden regime recently nominated an open Marxist to the role of the comptroller of the currency. Saule Omarova was nominated to run the key post that regulates national banks last month.

Saule Omarova was born in the USSR and is a devout Marxist.

She refused to turn over her thesis on Marxism to the Senate when she was nominated by Biden to run the banks.

Internet sleuths discovered that Omarova joined a Facebook group for Marxists and socialists back in 2019.

Again — this was only two years ago in 2019.

Saule told reporters in one interview she wanted the fossil fuel industry to go bankrupt in America.

And Saule wants the federal government to control your bank deposits and withdrawals.

She is a committed Marxist and Biden-Obama wants her to destroy the US Banking system.

Now this…

On Wednesday FOX News reported that Saule Omarova is also a convicted thief.

President Biden’s nominee to lead a branch of the Treasury Department was arrested in 1995 for “retail theft.”

Fox News obtained a Wisconsin Department of Justice criminal background check of Saule Omarova, the president’s nominee to lead the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

According to the background check, Omarova was arrested by Madison, Wisconsin, police officers on June 2, 1995 and charged with a misdemeanor count of “retail theft.”

Two Fed Presidents Hit The Alarm Over The Broken Treasury Market... Which They Caused

In the usual post-FOMC meeting jawboning circus, today we had not one but two Fed officials discussing not the topic du jour - Fed policy errors and soaring inflation - but something far more ominous: the broken Treasury market. Just days after a catastrophic 30Y Treasury auction which may well be the harbinger of what's to come as the market realizes that i) tapering is tightening and that without the buyer of first resort we will finally get some price discovery and ii) inflation, contrary to the latest Fund Manager Survey, is not transitory, both Cleveland Fed president Loretta Mester and NY Fed president John Williams warned markets that the Treasury market is "not as resilient" as it should be, and that even modest stress could break it. Unfortunately neither of them admitted that it's entirely the Fed's fault that what was once the world's most liquid market has become a political tool to be abused by central planners and power hungry politicians.

NY Fed's Williams was first, patting himself on the back by saying that the Fed's bazooka QE unleashed at the onset of the pandemic, “along with prompt fiscal measures enacted by Congress and emergency steps taken by the Federal Reserve and other government agencies, ultimately proved successful at restoring functioning in the Treasury and other financial markets” And while these measures "averted what could have been a severe financial crisis that would have had devastating effects on the economy" they are "also a stark reminder that these markets are not nearly as resilient as they should be.”

His next statement came dangerously close to the truth: “One thing that is clear when examining the causes of these market disruptions is that they were not primarily driven by economic forces, but rather by a failure of the markets to function in the ways they were expected to do in response to those particular circumstances” he said, failing to mention that the Fed owns a quarter of all Treasurys and up until now, has been monetizing every dollar in debt sold by the Treasury since March 2020, in the process becoming the only marginal price setter in the bond market.

Next up was Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester, who said that "with uncertainty related to the pandemic, many investors sought to move to cash and even liquidated their positions in U.S. Treasuries that are seen as haven assets, showing “how uncertain” the environment was in March 2020, and necessitating Fed actions to re-establish functioning of that market, she says also ignoring the fact that the market was no longer functioning in the first place because of the Fed.

But then she also made a surprising admission, saying that the Fed’s actions “didn’t address the underlying structural issues that propagated the stresses.” However, like Williams, instead of looking in the mirror and admitting the Treasury markets in the US - like that in Japan - is broken because the Fed is now openly engaging in MMT/Helicopter Money and monetizing the deficit, there is no longer a Treasury market with fair and transparent price discovery. Instead she blamed new players, interconnections and technologies, who are “new sources of vulnerability,” as financial activity is increasingly moving outside of the banking system and that means that credit risk is increasingly being intermediated and outside the banking sector.

“We’re just going to need to ensure we have the ability to monitor risks and vulnerabilities not only in the banking system, but in the nonbank financial sector,” she said, clearly seeking to put all other financial actors under the Fed's supervision. The same "supervision" which failed to realize the simplest thing: when you become the primary - and for the past two years only - source of demand in the Treasury market, it is no longer a market but a political tool.

Having discussed the topic of the broken Treasury market (and every other market) due to the Fed's actions (and in the latest just released note from Rabobank's Michael Every we read that "It’s no longer a secret that markets are irrational due to central bank action") pretty much non-stop since our inception, and since there is little we can add to the beating of this particular dead horse, we will give the mic to Bloomberg's Vince Cignarella who cuts to the chase, writing that "Regulators Discuss Bond Liquidity, an Issue of Their Own Making."

The Strategic Imperative of U.S. Covid-19 Vaccine Diplomacy

Executive Summary

In 2020, the United States won the global race to develop a Covid-19 vaccine. But that historic victory could become a historical footnote if the United States loses the race to deliver its vaccines to the rest of the globe.

Vaccine diplomacy has never been more important. Every nation on earth will be watching to see who will rise to the challenge and reap the rewards of global leadership. The United States now has an opportunity to deploy its scientific and economic preeminence in the service of all humanity. The United States has the ability to shield developing nations not only from the virus, but from the designs of competing powers. Yet, to date, the United States has been slow to seize this opportunity, and international rivals—especially China—are eagerly filling the gap created by its inaction.

Vaccines have been widely available throughout the United States for many months and to vulnerable groups for almost a year. Yet elsewhere in the world, billions of people are still without access to any shots and are desperate for help. Vaccine-rich nations such as the United States have a humanitarian responsibility to help bring everyone else out of the pandemic as well; inoculating the world is a moral duty.

In addition to a humanitarian obligation to deliver vaccines around the world, the United States has sound strategic and competitive reasons to do so.

In the absence of U.S. leadership, desperate nations are turning to Beijing, which is offering inferior vaccines in exchange for foreign-policy concessions. Meanwhile, at the World Trade Organization (WTO), a group of nations is proposing that countries agree to strip vaccine makers of their patents, copyrights, and trade secrets—the intellectual property (IP) underlying the products and processes they invented, including the vaccines themselves and the technology that produces them. Unfortunately, the Biden-Harris administration has endorsed this idea, which would surrender national competitive advantages to rival nations without adding a single dose to the global vaccine arsenal.

The real barriers to vaccinating the developing world are not IP protections. Forcing vaccine makers to give up intellectual property will not lower barriers; it will only create new ones, both for today’s global vaccination project and in future pandemics. Rather, a combination of logistical, regulatory, and infrastructure challenges is slowing global vaccination efforts. Fortunately, these are problems U.S. economic resources and technological innovation can readily solve.

Forcing vaccine makers to give up intellectual property will not lower barriers; it will only create new ones, both for today’s global vaccination project and in future pandemics.

The present challenge provides a perfect opportunity for the United States to reassert its leadership role in international affairs and check its rivals’ cynical opportunism.

To the Biden-Harris administration’s credit, the United States has committed to financing or providing 1.1 billion vaccine doses abroad, with most designated for low- and lower-middle-income nations. Of these doses, 160 million have already shipped. The commitment makes the United States the largest single-country donor of any vaccine, ever.

Yet the United States and other wealthy nations can and should give more. The United States, like many prosperous countries, already has a surplus of Covid-19 vaccines, with hundreds of millions of doses in danger of expiring before they can be administered. Washington should collaborate with its allies and industry partners to ship these doses abroad immediately to prevent needless hospitalizations and deaths and help stop the spread. The leading democracies of the Group of Seven (G7) should also develop a comprehensive plan to maximize worldwide production and accelerate distribution to countries in need.

With more than half of all Americans fully vaccinated—and 68 percent of those 12 and above—the United States is slowly winning the fight against the pandemic at home. Smart, aggressive vaccine diplomacy can now help win that fight internationally...
