The ill-fated test saw the missile – a Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC), a joint project of the Air Force and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) – “inadvertently” separate from the B-52 that was carrying it and crash to the ground below, according to a report by Aviation Week.

Backed by Trump allies, QAnon promoter vies for Georgia House seat

In a recent TV ad, Marjorie Greene, a Republican primary candidate in Georgia’s reliably red 14th District, holds an AR-15 rifle in front of what appears to be her home.

“Antifa terrorists have declared war on America,” she says shortly before cocking the rifle. “Rioting, looting and burning our cities, George Soros, Hollywood elites and Joe Biden’s staff are funding Antifa.”

The spot is similar to an ad recently banned from Facebook for having a prominent weapon. In all, Greene spent over $106,000 on Facebook ads, more than double what the next highest-spending candidate in the race spent on online ads. The controversy earned her a barrage of press just before the June 9 primary.

Greene has raised and spent more than the other eight candidates running for a House seat left open by Rep. Tom Graves’ (R-Ga.) resignation. The Associated Press called the race one of Georgia’s most competitive primaries. She is also one of dozens of candidates running for federal office across the country that have promoted the alt-right QAnon conspiracy theory, six of whom have already guaranteed a spot on November’s ballots.

Like several other QAnon supporting candidates, Marjorie Greene has the backing of several members of President Donald Trump’s inner-circle. But unlike most, she has a real shot of winning a seat come November. As of May 20, she has outraised the rest of them combined, including Oregon U.S. Senate candidate Jo Rae Perkins, who recently won her state’s primary.

Dog whistles evoking alt-right conspiracy theories are a major part of Greene’s campaign, and were also central to her rise to political prominence.

Since 2017, Greene has built a social media following on the far right through confrontational videos with prominent left-leaning figures. In one video, Greene accused David Hogg, a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, of “using kids” to push an anti-gun agenda. In another, she accused Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) of being an illegitimate congressperson because she was sworn in with a Quran instead of a Bible.

Greene used her platform to voice her support for QAnon — an alt-right conspiracy theory that began on the online message board 4chan and purports that a cabal of left-wing pedophiles has taken over the U.S. government.

One of Greene’s largest vendors, which her campaign paid over $45,000, is Elections LLC, a political law firm that represents candidates and committees. The firm is run by former Deputy White House Counsel Stefan Passantino, who also represented Trump during his fight against Democratic congressional subpoenas after leaving his White House role.

According to Greene, Passantino was hired as her attorney and Elections LLC as her FEC compliance team. Passantino did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Elections LLC also received $290,000 from the Trump campaign this cycle and $60,000 from the Republican National Committee.

Other prominent Trump allies have also bolstered Greene’s campaign. The House Freedom Fund, a PAC associated with Trump’s chief of staff Mark Meadows, spent $44,000 backing Greene and delivered $78,000 in earmarked contributions to her campaign. Greene also received endorsements from prominent Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), the House Freedom Caucus and the gun rights group Gun Owners of America.

Another member of Trump’s orbit with ties to QAnon-boosting candidates is Roger Kiger, who founded an early pro-Trump super PAC, Citizens for Restoring USA, in 2015. First hearing about the super PAC in an interview with the Washington Post, Trump claimed not to know Kiger, who is a Mar-A-Lago regular. In the same interview, Kiger also called Trump a “friend,” but clarified by saying that Trump would likely not know who he was.

Yet a few years later, Kiger was driving Trump’s limousine in the presidential motorcade and claimed to have gotten a tour of Air Force One, according to pictures and statements on Kiger’s social media. The Secret Service regularly uses unpaid volunteers as motorcade drivers.

The health officer for Southern California's Orange County has resigned after receiving threats over her order for residents to wear face coverings when near others in public to protect against the coronavirus.

Dr. Nichole Quick resigned unexpectedly Monday from a job where she worked 80-hour weeks and faced threats at a public meeting and on social media, said Frank Kim, the county's executive officer. He said she had been provided security.

Street reporting from CHAZ

The first night in the so-called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone that has formed in the wake of police giving up the week-long blockade of the East Precinct was rainy and peaceful and full of speeches from activists, agitators, poets, and socialist city council members.

“I guess whatever the fuck we’re doing is effective,” one organizer identified as Magik said over a megaphone early in the night as police were still clearing the area. “They are going to move up. They are going to get everybody out of here and we are free to move through these streets and protest and march.”

“Yesterday we were on 11th and Pine. Today we have victory on 12th and Pine. They tried to stop us!,” another exclaimed.

The night brought tense moments but compared to the previous week of blast balls and clouds of gas and pepper spray, Pike/Pine was calm if not quiet — the county sheriff’s helicopter stayed circling overhead until midnight providing observations to SPD command on the ground and often drowning out speeches below. The only major reported conflict came when a TV news crew for the local Fox affiliate was temporarily chased from the scene and took up refuge in the nearby fire station.

The surprise pullback of SPD riot police and National Guard troops came together quickly Monday afternoon after a day of hastily clearing out equipment, moving trucks, and reports of a “mobile shredding unit” at the building at 12th and Pine that is home to the East Precinct headquarters as well as department office facilities. “The decision has been made to allow demonstrators to march past the East Precinct later today,” an announcement sent to department staff about the decision to close the building read. “Additional measures are currently underway to enhance our ongoing efforts to insure the security of our East Precinct and provide for the safety of all our officers.”

“The East Precinct will remain staffed,” the announcement concluded. CHS observed officers being dispatched from mobile locations away from 12th and Pine. The building is empty and windows covered with plywood. By morning, the wood was covered with graffiti giving the precinct an unexpected continuity with much of the rest of the neighborhood as many businesses are still in the process of reopening after weeks of COVID-19 restrictions.

The pullback and boarding-up of the precinct follows a Sunday night conflagration described by many as the most aggressive show of crowd control firepower yet by SPD that came only hours after a Mayor Jenny Durkan speech on deescalation.

Monday night, Durkan remained silent on the developments at the precinct until late into the night.

BOSTON (CBS) – A Christopher Columbus statue in Boston was beheaded overnight.

The statue in Christopher Columbus Park on Atlantic Avenue in the North End was surrounded by crime scene tape early Wednesday morning as the head lay on the ground.

Columbus was one of the first Europeans in the New World, credited by many for discovering America. However, critics say his trip began the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Columbus is also criticized for his violent treatment and killing of Native Americans, who see him as a racist.

There has been a push across the country to get rid of the Columbus Day holiday in October and replace it with Indigenous Peoples Day.

This statue has been the target of vandals in the past.

The head was also cut off back in 2006. The statue was doused with red paint in June 2015 with the words “Black Lives Matter” spray-painted on the base.

In Richmond, Virginia Tuesday night, protesters tore down a Columbus statue and threw it into a lake. This comes amid a new push to take down controversial statues across the country.

Though Linick briefed State Department leadership on the report’s findings, he did not submit the full written report nor a summary, despite continued requests from his immediate superiors at State. In fact, State Department leadership did not even receive a written copy of the report until June 2, 2020 as a result of a congressional inquiry from Engel, who is leading House Democrats’ probe into Trump’s firings of multiple inspectors general in recent months.

Bulatao noted that had Linick made “an appropriate referral to CIGIE,” it “would have produced a final report that Department leadership could review and assess whether there may have been inappropriate conduct in Mr. Linick’s office.”

Bulatao added that State’s June review of Fine’s report illustrated three additional suspect actions on Linick’s part.

First, he sent a password-protected draft of his original 2019 report to his personal email 8 times in the days leading up to The Daily Beast’s article. Second, he opened a “parallel investigation” into other State Department officials regarding the “same misconduct” his own office was being investigated for, creating “both a real and apparent conflict of interest.”

Third, Bulatao claimed that a “pattern” of leaks on the subject have continued, citing a report from CNN titled, “Fired State Department inspector general was cleared in leak inquiry prior to his removal, sources say,” that was published prior to State’s receipt of the DoD IG report on Linick’s office.

“Even though no one at the State Department other than Mr. Linick had a copy of the DOD Inspector General’s report,” he wrote, “CNN ran a story on May 28, 2020 that the DOD IG report had exonerated Mr. Linick of leaking.”

Multiple news reports suggested that Pompeo petitioned Trump for Linick’s firing in order to kill investigations into his behavior as Secretary of State. Linick testified on his firing and investigations into Pompeo during a closed door Congressional hearing on June 2, 2020, during which he accused Bulatao of repeatedly trying to “bully” him.

The Chinese city of Wuhan said it has tested its entire population of 11 million people for COVID-19, part of an ambitious national plan to restore public confidence and get the country’s economy restarted.

The mass testing campaign ended up reporting 206 cases of active COVID-19 infections, all of which were classified as asymptomatic.

The campaign dabbled “10 days of battle” began on May 14 after Wuhan reported a cluster six new cases on the weekend of May 9, after 35 days without reporting any new infections in the city.

Homicides in Los Angeles Increase 250 Percent from Previous Week

The Los Angeles Police Department announced that murders increased by 250 percent last week in the wake of national unrest following the death of George Floyd,and just as Los Angeles officials announced plans to slash the city’s police budget by up to $150 million.

The LAPD announced that, compared to the previous week, “homicides went up 250% and victims shot went up 56%” from May 31 to June 6. The department also said that the city had seen four separate shootings — one resulting in a homicide — over the last 24 hours.

Last week, Mayor Eric Garcetti said that the city would “identify $250 million in cuts so we can invest in jobs, in health, in education and in healing,” for women and minority communities, and the black community in particular. L.A. Police Commission President Eileen Decker then revealed that $100 million to $150 million would come in reductions to the police budget.

Garcetti said there would be cuts “to every department, including the Police Department, because we all have to be part of this solution together. We all have to step up and say, ‘What can we sacrifice?’” The stance marks a major shift from Garcetti’s position of just a few weeks ago, when he proposed significantly increasing the LAPD budget during the 2020-21 fiscal year from $1.189 billion to $1.86 billion.

The city’s police union, the Los Angeles Police Protective League, responded to the announcement by warning the cuts would not make the city safer.

“What you need to do is ask the citizens of Los Angeles, Do they feel comfortable with cutting $150 million from the police budget?’ I would say, No.’ Can you imagine if that money was cut and the same situation happened in a year or two? I think it would be 10 times worse,” Detective Jamie McBride, a member of union’s board of directors, said in response to the news.

The Armor of God

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. The Nelson Mandela Foundation has courted controversy by endorsing the use of violence for political struggles, in a statement on the Black Lives Matter movement.

The statement says that the demonstrations against racism and police brutality that have sprung up in the wake of the death of George Floyd are part of a “growing rage” against white supremacy across the globe.

The foundation, which was established to guard the legacy of Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first democratically-elected president, argues that the case of South Africa illustrates that state violence in aid of white supremacy can be found even in countries where black people “hold the levers of government and of the state more broadly.”

Now is the time for sober assessment of a resilient White supremacy in SA, the US & globally. We need to reckon with the fact that structural & other forms of violence will provoke violence. Communist China says Hong Kong protests are ‘threat to national security’

The ruling Chinese Communist Party is imposing a draconian new sedition and subversion law on Hong Kong because Beijing views recent protests in the city as a threat to national security, a top official in charge of implementing policy for the city said on Monday.

Zhang Xiaoming, a deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office under China’s cabinet, the State Council, said Beijing’s announcement of the law last month was “based on the fact that the actions of internal and external enemies of Hong Kong have caused prolonged chaos there, and endangered national security.”

Zhang accused the protesters, the majority of whom have engaged in peaceful demands for fully democratic elections and greater police accountability in the face of widespread violence by riot police, of “showing obvious signs of terrorism.”

But “even more serious” was the advocacy of self-determination and independence by some groups, who had “insulted and burned the Chinese flag,” Zhang said in a speech marking the 30th anniversary of Hong Kong’s mini-constitution, the Basic Law.

Federal Court Upholds Trump’s Pro-Life Rule Defunding Planned Parenthood Abortion Business

A federal court has issued a ruling upholding enforcement of a pro-life rule instituted by President Donald Trump protecting Americans from having to fund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. The rule shut down one of the many avenues for federal taxpayer funds that Planned Parenthood has accessed over the years.

Title X grants fund family planning services for low-income individuals and, to direct tax dollars to legitimate organizations and away from the Planned Parenthood abortion company, the Trump administration finalized a new rule that prohibits recipients from providing or promoting abortions.

The “Protect Life” rule requires Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers to completely separate their abortion businesses from their taxpayer-funded services. That mean housing their family planning services in separate buildings with separate staff from their abortion businesses and a denial of funds if they fail to do so. Planned Parenthood refused to comply and lost its federal funding.

But the abortion giant, several states and the city of Baltimore sued to overturn the Trump rule.

A federal judge has issued a ruling turning back one of those lawsuits.

Maine Family Planning, the state’s only direct recipient of the federal Title X funds, in March 2019 sued the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but U.S. District Judge Lance Walker disagreed with its contention that the pro-life rule violates its free speech rights but preventing it from promoting abortion. Judge Walker found that the “rule authorizes nondirective counseling, including abortion counseling; it only prohibits an abortion referral.”

Yes, sorry I didn't proof it before smashing reply. The image I posted is what they are using. It's covered in a sheet so they can use it over and over again. You can see George's arm filling out the side of the carrier. It was not a dummy, he was on the transport carrier. If you've ever watched a soccer fag get hurt, that stretcher is similar to the one used here.

Mandatory vaccines are no longer needed when asymptomatic carriers present near-zero risk

Now that the WHO is claiming there’s virtually no risk of catching the coronavirus from someone who isn’t showing any symptoms, mandatory vaccines are impossible to medically justify since symptomatic carriers can be easily identified and isolated from others.

Simultaneously, the argument that the lockdowns need to continue “until there’s a vaccine” have just been decimated, too. In reality, the WHO just admitted that lockdowns aren’t necessary at all, except among those who are actively showing symptoms (which is a very tiny percentage of the population, probably far less than 1% on any given day).

It also means that everybody can safely go back to work with nothing more than a low-cost handheld thermometer checking temperatures of workers as they enter the workplace. No symptoms means no risk of spread, according to the WHO, so checking for symptoms is now synonymous with achieving a safe workplace for all.

No more justification for contact tracing either

This WHO declaration also obliterates any argument for so-called “contact tracing.” If there’s no such thing as an asymptomatic carrier, why would we need contact tracing at all?

Plus, the CDC says the virus can’t be spread on surfaces

All this is on top of the CDC recently announcing that the coronavirus can’t be spread via surfaces, either. So there’s no more justification for people wearing gloves or sanitizing packages or grocery bags. In fact, according to the CDC’s newest admissions, there’s no more reason to avoid shaking hands, either.

there are really just two possibilities in all this:

#1) The WHO has been lying to us all along, and the real risk of coronavirus spread is practically zero.

Or #2) The WHO is lying to us now, trying to make sure we all get infected so that a second wave explodes across the globe.

ScotAnon here. I've been looking into the background of the Scottish politicians who are leading my country and the background to our Health Minister jumped out at me.

Considering that Jeane Freeman is the person who is the decision maker in my country for all of the current COVID lockdown measures, I find it interesting to me that she started her political career as a Communist.

In fact she's currently a Scottish Nationalist Minister but in the past she was a political adviser to the the left wing Labour government and as previously mentioned she started her political life as a Communist.

A secretly recorded meeting between the editors-in-chief of The Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine reveal both men bemoaning the "criminal" influence big pharma has on scientific research.

According to Philippe Douste-Blazy, France's former Health Minister and 2017 candidate for WHO Director, the leaked 2020 Chattam House closed-door discussion between the EIC's - whose publications both retracted papers favorable to big pharma over fraudulent data.

"Now we are not going to be able to, basically, if this continues, publish any more clinical research data because the pharmaceutical companies are so financially powerful today, and are able to use such methodologies, as to have us accept papers which are apparently methodologically perfect, but which, in reality, manage to conclude what they want them to conclude," said Lancet EIC Richard Horton.

U.S. attorney general group sues 26 dermatology drug makers

A group of attorneys general from U.S. states and territories sued 26 manufacturers of dermatology drugs on Wednesday, accusing them of price fixing and other violations of antitrust law, the third such lawsuit since 2016.

This lawsuit focuses on 80 topical generic drugs, including creams, gels and ointments, which have billions in dollars of U.S. sales. It accuses Novartis unit Sandoz, Teva generic unit Actavis, Mylan Inc, Pfizer and other companies of breaking antitrust law by dividing up markets and rigging bids, according to statements from the attorneys general.

The group is made up of attorneys general from 46 states, the District of Columbia and four territories. “Through phone calls, text messages, emails, corporate conventions, and cozy dinner parties, generic pharmaceutical executives were in constant communication, colluding to fix prices and restrain competition as though it were a standard course of business,” Connecticut Attorney General William Tong said in a statement. “They took steps to evade accountability, using code words and warning each other to avoid email and detection.”

Novartis, which owns Sandoz, said it already settled with the U.S. Justice Department over “misconduct” and would defend itself from the lawsuit. “The individual instances of misconduct at the core of the resolution we reached with the U.S. Department of Justice in March do not support the vast, systemic conspiracy the states allege,” Novartis spokesman Eric Althoff said in a statement.

Teva unit Actavis, Mylan Inc and Pfizer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Groups of state attorneys general filed lawsuits regarding generic drug prices in 2016 and 2019. These lawsuits are pending.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said the West “cannot ignore” either the military or economic rise of China, and admitted that the world is “facing a shift in the global balance of power.”

Speaking to BBC Radio on Wednesday, Stoltenberg said Beijing was creeping closer to the West in multiple ways: through cyberspace, telecommunications, critical infrastructure and in Arctic exploration.

“We cannot ignore the consequences of the rise of China. China will soon have the biggest economy in the world. They already have the second largest defense budget,” he warned.

The head of the Western military alliance also said it was important that Britain reviewed the role of Chinese tech giant Huawei in its 5G network to guarantee its security. He said he trusts that the UK government will design its 5G networks in a way that ensures they will remain protected and “secure.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been heavily criticized over a decision to allow Huawei to help build Britain’s 5G network.

Asked about Stoltenberg’s comments, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that China does not pose a threat to any country and that she hopes NATO can view its development “rationally,” Reuters reported.

Stoltenberg noted that Beijing is investing “heavily” in modern military capabilities and has added 80 ships to its navy in just the past five years, which is equal to the total number of ships belonging to the UK’s Royal Navy.

“China is becoming a more and more important military power and we have to address that,” he said, adding that NATO must ensure it remains a “strong force in the future” as it faces a “shift in the global balance of power.”

Trump invites Putin to G7, sparking opposition

US President Donald Trump has announced that he plans to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the next G7 summit to be held later this year. The move has sparked opposition from other G7 members, however, such as Canada and the United Kingdom.

The G7, or Group of Seven, is an international organisation representing the nations with the “most advanced” economies as judged by the International Monetary Fund. It currently consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The group was known as the G8 until 2014, when former member Russia was expelled due to objections to the country’s occupation of Crimea, which had previously been part of Ukraine. Russia has been excluded from the group ever since.

The United States will be hosting the group’s annual summit this year. Trump has said that the G7 represents “an outdated group of countries” that does not “properly represent what’s going on in the world,” and needs to be expanded to include others. He has been pushing for Russia’s readmission for years. He has also suggested that Australia, India, and South Korea should be included.

President Trump made the announcement about his invitation to Russia at the end of May and informed President Putin of his decision in a phone call the following day, according to a report by BBC News.

The leaders of Canada and the United Kingdom have already made their opposition to Trump’s plan known, however, saying that they do not want to see Russia readmitted.

“Russia was excluded from the G7 after it invaded Crimea a number of years ago, and its continued disrespect and flaunting of international rules and norms is why it remains outside of the G7, and it will continue to remain out,” said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a statement.

A spokesman for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also stated that he will veto any attempt to bring Russia back into the group, saying that they have “yet to see evidence of changed behaviour which would justify its readmittance.”

This year’s G7 summit was originally scheduled to be held this month, but President Trump announced that he is postponing it until September given the ongoing Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. German Chancellor Angela Merkel had already said that she would not be attending the summit due to the emergency, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. Some believe that the real reason for her move was due to a growing rift between her administration and President Trump’s, however.

President Putin could still attend the summit even if his country is not readmitted to the group.

The ill-fated test saw the missile – a Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC), a joint project of the Air Force and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) – “inadvertently” separate from the B-52 that was carrying it and crash to the ground below, according to a report by Aviation Week.

Though DARPA declined to provide further details, stating that all information on the flight demonstration is classified, the mishap is thought to have occurred near Edwards Air Force Base in California, where the military conducts tests on a number of new systems, including Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fighter jet.

It’s unclear where the missile landed, but the report suggested it may have crashed over a “designated testing range” near Edwards AFB, where its pieces were collected after impact. A range at nearby China Lake was proposed as another possible location.

DARPA’s HAWC program, which seeks to develop a scramjet-powered missile capable of hypersonic speeds, has fallen behind schedule by several months, missing its debut test flight originally planned for last year. Using oxygen from the atmosphere for propulsion rather than from onboard tanks, scramjets allow for smaller, lighter and faster munitions, and operate more efficiently at speeds in excess of Mach 5. With the recent testing accident, however, there’s apparently more work to be done on the cutting-edge weapon.

A wealthy, Oxford-educated, American-born museum curator has been advising Black Lives Matter/Antifa protestors on Twitter how to do permanent damage to bronze statues using corrosive chemicals.

Madeline Odent, curator of Royston Museum in Hertfordshire in England’s picturesque, rural east, has been using her art conservation knowledge to advise the mob how best to harm what she calls ‘memorials of genocidal racists’.

She has told her 5,000 followers:

In subsequent tweets, the privately educated curator, married to a millionaire French banker goes into detail about how to create this ‘irreversible bronze disease.’

Yes, it can be removed, but ‘the chemical needed is super carcinogenic, so, it rarely is. Instead, conservators usually ‘pause’ the disease by removing either moisture or oxygen using specialised storage.’

When challenged on her behaviour, Odent was snarky and defiant.

She tweeted disingenuously:

‘no I’m pretty sure I’m telling people how to avoid damaging precious and extremely valuable relics of history, without which we would immediately forget about the entirety of the british empire.’

When Northern Ireland's government was warning that the country could lose to Covid-19 almost as many lives as to its violent 'Troubles,' they failed to mention the toll could also be 12 times lower, a new BBC report has revealed.

NI Health Minister Robin Swann had warned in early April that the region may face 3,000 deaths from the first wave of Covid-19. The figure was the “reasonable” worst-case scenario based on computer modeling.

First Minister Arlene Foster called this a “sobering statistic” and one that was “about 500 people short of the tally of lives lost during the Troubles,” referring to the three decades of violent confrontation between Irish separatists and British loyalists in Northern Ireland.

But the same modeling said the best-case scenario put the potential death toll at just 250, BBC Spotlight has revealed, citing a leaked document. The optimistic figure was never provided to the public.

Swann decided to keep the best-case variant under wraps because he feared that, otherwise, the public would have “a false sense of security,” according to the BBC report. The scenario was called “unrealistic” in the document.

The actual number of deaths from the infection as tallied by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (Nisra) stands at 757, as counted provisionally by May 29.

In mid-March, Swann said the “nightmare scenario” with no social distancing could result in 14,000 to 15,000 deaths in Northern Ireland. The 14,000 figure was the “unrealistic” worst-case scenario that came up from the same computer modeling, which the minister used for his April announcement, according to Spotlight. However, he kept that variant from the public too.

When the alarming predictions for Northern Ireland were made public, the team of experts behind it said the figures should not be used as a forecast and have been prepared for planning purposes only.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minneapolis Police Department will withdraw from police union contract negotiations, Chief Medaria Arradondo said Wednesday as he announced the first steps in what he said would be transformational reforms to the agency in the wake of George Floyd’s death.

Arradondo said a thorough review of the contract is planned. He said the contract needs to be restructured to provide more transparency and flexibility for true reform. The review would look at matters such as critical incident protocols, use of force, and disciplinary protocols, including grievances and arbitration.

He said it’s debilitating for a chief when there are grounds to terminate an officer and a third-party mechanism works to keep that person on the street.

“This work must be transformational, but I must do it right,” Arradondo said of changes to the department.

He also promised new research and strategies to spot and intervene with problem officers.

“We will have a police department that our communities view as legitimate, trusting and working with their best interests at heart,” he said, adding that the department has to address issues of racism head-on.

Arradondo sidestepped a question about whether he thought union head Bob Kroll, often seen as an obstacle to reform, should step down. He also didn’t directly answer a question about whether citizens should worry about a slowdown in police response time as a pushback against attempts to transform the department. Some City Council members have said in the past that their wards saw such slowdowns when they complained about police action.

Floyd died on May 25 after Officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck, ignoring the handcuffed black man’s “I can’t breathe” cries and staying there even after Floyd stopped moving. Chauvin — a white officer who had 17 complaints against him and was only disciplined once — is charged with second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter. Three other officers at the scene are charged with aiding and abetting the second-degree murder and manslaughter counts.

Arradondo fired the four officers even before they were criminally charged, while activists took their calls for change to the streets in Minneapolis and beyond. A majority of Minneapolis City Council members called for dismantling the department, but they provided no clear plan on how that would happen.

Mayor Jacob Frey said he would not support abolishing the department, but he would favor a cultural shift in how it functions. He did not get into specifics, but told “Good Morning America” on Monday that the city has difficulty terminating and disciplining officers because of the police union.

FBI's 'Case Agent 1' Stephen Somma 'primarily responsible' for FISA failures

The Justice Department watchdog referred FBI agent Stephen Somma for disciplinary review after an investigation into alleged Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act abuses.

Somma, a counterintelligence investigator in the FBI's New York field office, was identified only as "Case Agent 1" in Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report, released in December. Sources told the New York Times that Somma is that official. The FBI did not comment for the report.

Somma was “primarily responsible for some of the most significant errors and omissions" during the process of obtaining FISA warrants to wiretap Trump campaign adviser Carter Page in 2016 and 2017, according to Horowitz. Horowitz confirmed the FBI relied heavily upon British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s salacious and unverified dossier when pursuing the secret surveillance.

The DOJ watchdog found 17 “significant inaccuracies and omissions” in the FBI's applications to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to wiretap Page, who was under suspicion of being an agent for Russia. He was never charged with any wrongdoing.

Horowitz wrote that Somma and an unnamed Staff Operations Specialist “were the original Crossfire Hurricane team members who had primary responsibility over the Carter Page investigation.” FBI documents showed that in late August 2016, Somma was told he had “not yet presented enough information to support a FISA application targeting Carter Page.” Somma told Horowitz’s investigators “that the team's receipt of the reporting from Steele [in September] supplied missing information in terms of what Page may have been doing during his July 2016 visit to Moscow and provided enough information on Page's recent activities that [Somma] thought would satisfy the Office of Intelligence.”

“Case Agent 1 said he prepared the FISA request form,” Horowitz wrote. “The FISA request form drew almost entirely from Steele's reporting in describing the factual basis to establish probable cause to believe that Page was an agent of a foreign power.

“We found no information indicating that the FBI provided the Office of Intelligence with the documents containing Page's denials before finalizing the first FISA application,” Horowitz wrote. “Instead, Case Agent 1 provided a summary that did not contain those denials to the OI Attorney and that the OI Attorney relied upon that summary in drafting the first application.”

Horowitz showed that Somma omitted significant information provided by confidential human source Stefan Halper — known as “Source 2” in the report. Halper met with and recorded Page in October 2016, before the FBI filed its first FISA application. Horowitz concluded Somma failed to include key “exculpatory” information from that meeting, including Page denying meeting with Russians mentioned in Steele’s report, denying knowledge of the WikiLeaks dissemination of the DNC emails hacked by the Russians, and denying any role in the GOP platform related to Russia.

Halper, 75, a Virginia resident and Cambridge professor, worked as an FBI informant in 2016 and had discussions with at least three Trump campaign members: Page, foreign policy aide George Papadopoulos, and Trump campaign co-chairman Sam Clovis.

Cambridge Intelligence Seminars, which involved gatherings of academics and intelligence officials, were put together by Halper and Sir Richard Dearlove, a former director of MI6 who spent decades with the British spy agency. Somma spoke at at least one of these seminars in November 2011, delivering a talk titled “The FBI and Russian illegals 2010” along with FBI agents George Ennis Jr. and Alan Kohler Jr.

Black Lives Matter UK Raises $1 Million in Days, Vows to Spend Cash on Abolition of Police

Black Lives Matter UK (BLMUK) — the British arm of the radical leftist movement that originated in the United States — has raised over $1 million in the past week in a crowdfunding campaign, vowing to spend the cash on the “abolition of police”.

The GoFundMe campaign, that was launched one week ago following the death of U.S. citizen George Floyd, had raised £800,000 ($1,022,000), with over 29,000 donations.

In the crowdfunding pitch, BLMUK said that they are “guided by a commitment to dismantle imperialism, capitalism, white-supremacy, patriarchy, and the state structures that disproportionately harm black people in Britain and around the world”.

The black radical group said that they intend to use the donations to put in place “police monitoring” as well as developing “strategies for the abolition of police”.

The call to abolish the police mirrors a similar movement in the United States, where leftist politicians such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar have joined the campaign to ‘#DefundThePolice’.

Founded in 2016, BLMUK describes themselves as a “coalition of black activists and organisers across the UK”. The leftist group said their main purpose is to “challenge the rise of the authoritarian right-wing across the world, from Brazil to Britain”.

“Our commitment to all black lives means that we lift up the experiences of the most marginalised in our communities, including but not limited to working class queer, trans, undocumented, disabled, Muslim, sex workers, women/non-binary, HIV+ people,” they said.

The head of the Justice Department’s criminal division announced Wednesday that he will be stepping down next month.

Brian Benczkowski, who oversaw several high prosecutions during his roughly two years in the position, did not say why he was leaving the department. His last day is July 3.

Back in 2017, two Israeli advisors to the Jerusalem Municipality, David Koren and Ben Avrahami, shared their concerns about Turkey’s increasingly visible role in the Holy City. These two figures oversee all of the municipality’s interactions with Muslims and Christians in Jerusalem. They are fully aware of the fine details of the incongruous interests, discrepancies and tensions among all segments of the local population.

Their article, “Eastern Jerusalem Arabs between Erdogan and Israel” was a wake-up call for Israeli decision makers regarding what they called “countervailing toxic trends in Jerusalem” and a warning about the symbolism of the Turkish flags flying across East Jerusalem and, especially, on what Israelis call the “Temple Mount”, the Noble Sanctuary of Al-Aqsa. They argued that the Turkish presence is intended to weaken Israel’s hold on the city. Hence, Koren and Avrahami recommended Israel to shield itself by not only limiting the Turkish presence but also by thwarting the “Turkish incursion to Jerusalem”. Since then, Israel has reportedly spared no effort in developing plans to obstruct the Turkish presence in Al-Aqsa and East Jerusalem.

Interestingly, media reports have revealed discussions between Israel and Saudi Arabia about limiting the role of Ankara in Palestinian affairs and replacing it with Riyadh. The two now apparently friendly states have recently held secret talks to discuss having Saudi representatives in the management of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, which is currently under the custodianship of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

There is no doubt that US President Donald Trump’s foreign policy decisions have started yet another phase in the Middle East’s most chronic conflict in Israel-Palestine. The recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and relocating the US Embassy to the city was definitely a game changer. It brought an ancient rivalry to the forefront of the Muslim world: the custodianship of the third holiest site in Islam after Makkah and Madinah, Al-Aqsa Mosque Sanctuary.

A prominent labour lawyer in Mexico’s borderlands has been arrested on accusations of inciting violence – a move family members and colleagues denounced as retribution for advising wildcat strikers at US-owned factories.

She was transported to the state capital, Ciudad Victoria – 320km south-east of Matamoros – and was ordered detained on Wednesday morning. Prosecutors said she was arrested on charges of inciting riot, threats and coercion of public officials.

“We think this is an attempt to get her out of the picture,” said Fernanda Peña Prieto, the lawyer’s daughter. “They’re trying to fabricate false evidence, saying that my mother was the mastermind of whatever violence workers may have committed.”

A fiery speaker with a fondness for sarcasm and a shock of dyed red hair, Prieto has made many enemies by representing workers fighting for higher salaries and trying to organise independent unions at maquiladoras – largely foreign-owned factories that manufacture products for export.

But Prieto has also battled union bosses, who have a history of putting company interests ahead of workers’ wages and benefits.

“They have always been the right arm of the companies’ human resources department,” she told the Guardian in 2019. “That’s why they don’t allow workers to join or register independent unions.”

In 2015, Prieto advised workers at a Ciudad Juárez plant operated by the US printer and software company Lexmark, who were fired for demanding a wage increase of $0.35 per day.

During an unprecedented wave of wildcat strikes in 2019, Prieto described fierce resistance from maquila owners. “They’re fighting tooth and nail because these gringo bastards don’t want to set a precedent,” she told the Guardian.

Those strikes spread to other businesses, and according to the city’s maquila industry led to a slump in investment in Matamoros.

Prieto’s arrest comes as more maquilas reopen following lockdowns prompted by the coronavirus pandemic. According to health officials, Mexico has not yet reached the peak of its outbreak and the number of Covid-19 deaths is still rising, but the country has come under intense pressure from the US to declare many manufacturing activities “essential” as they form part of continental supply chains.

Prieto had campaigned against policies at maquiladora plants in Ciudad Juárez, which she said had put workers at risk of catching the new coronavirus.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has shown little enthusiasm for labour activism along the border, despite winning power on the promise of a better deal for workers and doubling the minimum wage,

The new Nafta agreement set to come into effect on 1 July proposes many improvements in labour standards.

“We’ve not been favoured by the federal government in any way,” Peña said.

“Mexico is wearing itself out trying to please the United States.”

Air Force Launches Review into Racial Disparities in Punishments, Opportunities

Weeks after an advocacy organization found that black airmen in junior enlisted ranks are twice as likely to receive discipline as those from other demographics, the Air Force Inspector General has launched an independent review into the service's history of disparity in military punishment and developmental opportunities given to African American service members, officials announced Tuesday.

In a release, the service said the review, ordered at the direction of Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett; Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein; and Gen. Jay Raymond, chief of space operations for the U.S. Space Force, will "assess and capture existing racial disparities; assess Air Force-specific causal factors, like culture and policies; assimilate the analysis and conclusions of previous racial disparity studies by external organizations; and make concrete recommendations resulting in impactful and lasting change."

"We are listening, and we are taking action," the leaders said in a letter accompanying the announcement.

The IG will reach out to airmen, including those temporarily assigned to the Space Force, through anonymous surveys and one-on-one interview or group discussion requests. The surveys will be made available by mid-June on the Air Force's website.

In a town hall last week, Goldfein and Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright called for change and improvement in the service, including a review of the military justice system.

The IG review formalizes that request, according to the release.

"We want to make sure our Air and Space Professionals are able to share their experiences and concerns, and we want to empower them to be a part of the solution," said Lt. Gen. Sami Said, the Air Force Inspector General.

"Their voices will be heard and captured for the record. We have a tremendous opportunity here, and we will not waste it," Said added.

An advisory board will supplement the review process. Said has formed a senior leader advisory group composed of "10 African American general officers, 10 African American chiefs and four African American senior executive service Airmen," the service said.

The IG's office will also reach out to a number of airmen from all the major commands to join its review team.

Following the announcement, Wright praised the move. "Action," he posted on Twitter and linked to the release.

Wright was the first member of senior military leadership to speak out publicly following the May 25 death of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of police officers in Minneapolis.

GOP Finds a New Location for August Convention

The Washington Post is reporting that the Republican National Convention, originally scheduled to be held in Charlotte, NC will be moved to the coastal Florida city of Jacksonville. Problems with the Democratic governor and mayor allowing a full-blown convention forced the party to move the venue to a more GOP-friendly area.

Due to contractual obligations to the city of Charlotte, it’s likely that some low profile events will still be held there. But the people and their money along with the cameras will probably be in Jacksonville.

But the move is not set in stone as there have been warnings from some city officials that there won’t be enough hotel rooms.

RNC aides are reportedly scrambling to figure out how to handle hotel capacity. Officials were in Jacksonville Monday for that purpose and to look at the city and its surrounding areas.

News4Jax checked local hotels and there are no reservations available at the Omni and Hyatt Regency in downtown Jacksonville during the week of the RNC in August. Prices are more than double at some hotels on the South Bank between August 24th and 27th.

It will be tight but the RNC will find that people are willing to drive a long way from an out of town motel to participate in the convention. Enough rooms will be found and as long as they’re within 100 miles, the party is on.

Meanwhile, some local residents in Jacksonville don’t want the convention in their city.

In an interview Tuesday with the Times-Union, Jacksonville NAACP Branch President Isaiah Rumlin warned that the RNC coming to Jacksonville would discredit the progress Curry’s administration made just that day.

“Trump doesn’t need to come to Jacksonville. We don’t need him here,” Rumlin said. “Although the statues are gone, that’s just symbolic. Racism is still going on.”

As noted by the Times-Union, the convention will fall on the 60th anniversary of Ax Handle Saturday — where more than 200 Ku Klux Klan and White Citizens Council members attacked black people participating in lunch counter sit-in demonstrations.

And 250 years ago, the Spanish were killing Native Americans down there. What’s the point? I’m sure you don’t have to try very hard to find something significant to the cause that happened on this day or tomorrow, or the day after that 50, 100 150 years ago. What’s that got to do with Republicans pouring $100 million into your city?

Banks are increasingly unwilling to lend to risky borrowers

Some banks in India are promoting gold-backed loans – that is, loans secured through the use of gold as collateral – as an alternative to regular lending during the ongoing covid-19 pandemic.

Umesh Patil, a farmer in Sangli district in the western Indian province of Maharashtra, pawned 40 grams (1.4 ounces) of gold jewelry in order to raise about $1,720 so he could purchase agricultural supplies to plant his next crop.

"State-run banks were seeking lots of documents for crop loans and furnishing them all wasn't possible quickly," said Patil. "So I decided to pawn jewelry. I got a loan from a local cooperative bank in just an hour."

Such transactions are occurring more frequently in India as banks are increasingly unwilling to lend to risky borrowers. But banks consider gold security as a safer option compared to forms of unsecured borrowing.

Gold is widely held by Indian families in the form of jewelry and coins but rarely converted into cash. The World Gold Council estimates that up to 25,000 tons of gold are lying in Indian households – with rural India accounting for 65% of this amount.

George Alexander Muthoot, managing director at Muthoot Finance, a gold financing company based in Kochi, India, said demand for such loans have been coming "from all quarters" as people take out short-term loans due to, for example, having lost their jobs or seeing their wages cut or postponed.

He said the average gold loan was about $530.

As India’s economy slows, loan growth at banks have crawled – Indian credit rating agency Crisil expects loan growth of barely above zero this year.

"As banks could exhibit greater risk aversion in the current context, gold loans would be a convenient route for many customers to raise liquidity and working capital," said P.R. Somasundaram, managing director for India at the World Gold Council.

A number of state-owned and private banks in India have produced promotional materials on gold loans to attract more customers.

Turkey has rejected Egypt’s proposal for a ceasefire in Libya, pushing Cairo closer to a military intervention in the war-torn country.

Egypt’s proposal, which received support from the U.S, the EU and Russia, was meant to end to a fierce 14-month battle between the Turkish-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) and the Libyan National Army (LNA)

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu dismissed the proposal on June 10. The minister claimed that the proposal is an attempt to save LNA Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar following the recent losses of the LNA.

“The ceasefire effort in Cairo was stillborn. If a ceasefire is to be signed, it should be done at a platform that brings everyone together,” Reuters quoted Cavusoglu as saying in an interview with Hurriyet. “The ceasefire call to save Haftar does not seem sincere or believable to us.”

The strict Turkish stand is apparently forcing Egypt to consider military action in Libya in order to prevent the GNA from securing a military victory.

Last week, the Egyptian military amassed a large offensive force on the border with Libya. Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Mohammed Farid Hegazy inspected on June 10 military formations along the border. The senior leader also met with the commanders of Egypt’s western region.

“The Egyptian Armed Forces are at the highest level of preparedness and combat readiness to face all dangers and challenges,” Lt. Gen. Hegazy stressed during his visit.

The ever growing Turkish military intervention in Libya has enabled GNA forces to make significant achievements in the country’s western region in the recent few weeks.

Turkey is clearly working to secure a military victory for the GNA. An intervention by Egypt could foil Ankara’s plans and force the GNA to return to the diplomatic path.

BlackRock Authored the Bailout Plan Before There Was a Crisis – Now It’s Been Hired by three Central Banks to Implement the Plan

It’s called “Going Direct.” That’s the financial bailout plan designed and authored by former central bankers now on the payroll at BlackRock, an investment manager of $7 trillion in stock and bond funds. The plan was rolled out in August 2019 at the G7 summit of central bankers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming – months before the public was aware of any financial crisis. One month later, on September 17, 2019, the U.S. Federal Reserve would begin an emergency repo loan bailout program, making hundreds of billions of dollars a week in loans by “going direct” to the trading houses on Wall Street.

The BlackRock plan calls for blurring the lines between government fiscal policy and central bank monetary policy – exactly what the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Reserve are doing today in the United States. BlackRock has now been hired by the Federal Reserve, the Bank of Canada, and Sweden’s central bank, Riksbank, to implement key features of the plan. Three of the authors of the BlackRock plan previously worked as central bankers in the U.S., Canada and Switzerland, respectively.

The authors wrote in the white paper that “in a downturn the only solution is for a more formal – and historically unusual – coordination of monetary and fiscal policy to provide effective stimulus.”

We now understand why, for the first time in history, the U.S. Congress handed over $454 billion of taxpayers’ money to the Fed, without any meaningful debate, to eat losses on toxic assets produced by the Wall Street banks it supervises. The Fed plans to leverage the $454 billion into a $4.54 trillion bailout plan, “going direct” with bailouts to the commercial paper market, money market funds, and a host of other markets.

The BlackRock plan further explains why, for the first time in history, the Fed has hired BlackRock to “go direct” and buy up $750 billion in both primary and secondary corporate bonds and bond ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds), a product of which BlackRock is one of the largest purveyors in the world. Adding further outrage, the BlackRock-run program will get $75 billion of the $454 billion in taxpayers’ money to eat the losses on its corporate bond purchases, which will include its own ETFs, which the Fed is allowing it to buy in the program.

Helicopter money is also spelled out in the BlackRock plan, which explains why simultaneously with the $454 billion Congress carved out for the Fed under the CARES Act, fiscal stimulus was also “going direct” with $1200 checks and direct deposits to the little people of America and Paycheck Protection Program loans and grants “going direct” to small businesses.

WASHINGTON (REUTERS) - US President Donald Trump could take policy action on race and policing via an executive order, his spokesman told Fox News in an interview on Wednesday (June 10), as lawmakers in Congress move forward with their proposals.

"We do believe that we'll have proactive policy prescriptions, whether that means legislation or an executive order," White House spokesman Kayleigh McEnany said. She declined to offer specifics, saying the Republican President was still weighing various possibilities.

The potential for executive action comes as both Democrats and Republicans in Congress push forward with proposals aimed at addressing police reform amid massive protests sparked by last month's death of George Floyd, a black man in Minneapolis who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

House Democrats on Monday unveiled a sweeping Bill that would ban chokeholds, require body cameras for federal law enforcement officers, and restrict the use of lethal force, among other steps, while Senate Republicans on Tuesday said were working on their own proposal.

Following the surrender of the East Precinct of the Seattle Police Department to an Antifa mob and the occupation of Seattle City Hall, a source on the ground in Seattle says that other police precincts around the city are preparing to be the next targets.

Regarding the autonomous zone established by the Antifa-led mob, the source—whose anonymity we are protecting—says, "They bar media from entering and screen people coming in. They are walking around fully armed. Talking about making their own currency and making their own flag. SPD is talking about abandoning the west precinct now.

"West precinct has the 911 call centre. This is just like the Occupy movement. Soon we will have feces and drugs everywhere and people getting assaulted and raped in the encampments.

"They've been relocating everything quietly while the focus has been elsewhere. They know that it's only a matter of time before these

fools have to direct their issues back on the police. Since yesterday, I haven't seen a single police office or vehicle downtown. Even when they took over city hall, there were no signs of PD at headquarters across the street."

The main concern according to the source is that the SPD West Precinct also houses the city’s 911 call centre. There have been reports of sensitive material and equipment being moved out of the West Precinct. Walk-in lobbies of all precincts are shut down as local officials appear to be conceding handing over more of the city as well as police precincts to Antifa.

Police officers were stationed outside of the West Precinct on Wednesday, and two of them provided comment to The Post Millennial under the agreement that we conceal their identities.

"Antifa are extorting money and businesses in the Capital Hill Zone for protection money," said one of the officers who was previously stationed at the East Precinct.

"Those running this Capital Hill Zone are employing stop and frisk to anyone who walks through, and shaking down businesses for $500 for protection," added another officer.

‘Welcome to Free Capitol Hill’ — Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone forms around emptied East Precinct — UPDATE

The first night in the so-called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone that has formed in the wake of police giving up the week-long blockade of the East Precinct was rainy and peaceful and full of speeches from activists, agitators, poets, and socialist city council members.

“I guess whatever the fuck we’re doing is effective,” one organizer identified as Magik said over a megaphone early in the night as police were still clearing the area. “They are going to move up. They are going to get everybody out of here and we are free to move through these streets and protest and march.”

“Yesterday we were on 11th and Pine. Today we have victory on 12th and Pine. They tried to stop us!,” another exclaimed.

The night brought tense moments but compared to the previous week of blast balls and clouds of gas and pepper spray, Pike/Pine was calm if not quiet — the county sheriff’s helicopter stayed circling overhead until midnight providing observations to SPD command on the ground and often drowning out speeches below. The only major reported conflict came when a TV news crew for the local Fox affiliate was temporarily chased from the scene and took up refuge in the nearby fire station.

The surprise pullback of SPD riot police and National Guard troops came together quickly Monday afternoon after a day of hastily clearing out equipment, moving trucks, and reports of a “mobile shredding unit” at the building at 12th and Pine that is home to the East Precinct headquarters as well as department office facilities. “The decision has been made to allow demonstrators to march past the East Precinct later today,” an announcement sent to department staff about the decision to close the building read. “Additional measures are currently underway to enhance our ongoing efforts to insure the security of our East Precinct and provide for the safety of all our officers.”

“The East Precinct will remain staffed,” the announcement concluded. CHS observed officers being dispatched from mobile locations away from 12th and Pine. The building is empty and windows covered with plywood. By morning, the wood was covered with graffiti giving the precinct an unexpected continuity with much of the rest of the neighborhood as many businesses are still in the process of reopening after weeks of COVID-19 restrictions.

The pullback and boarding-up of the precinct follows a Sunday night conflagration described by many as the most aggressive show of crowd control firepower yet by SPD that came only hours after a Mayor Jenny Durkan speech on deescalation.

Monday night, Durkan remained silent on the developments at the precinct until late into the night.

Australian mining company takes green activists to court seeking R14.25m in damages

Cape Town - History was made on Tuesday when a South African court began hearing a Strategic Litigation against Public Participation (Slapp) suit brought by an Australian mining company against six environmental activists.

The mining company, Mineral Resources Commodities (MRC), its chief executive Mark Caruso, and local subsidiary Mineral Sands Resources (MSR) with its director Zamile Qunya, are suing the defendants over alleged defamatory statements made in relation to its current Tormin operations on the West Coast, and its proposed Xolobeni operations in the Wild Coast region of the Eastern Cape.

Advocate Steven Budlender, representing the defendants, said: “These cases are about three actions launched by a group of mining companies and their directors in which they seek R14.25 million in damages from three environmental attorneys and three activists in total.

Nashville councilman says meeting was 'hijacked' by people calling to defund police

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Metro councilman said the people of Nashville "got cheated" as members only heard from six people before passing a massive 32 percent property tax increase during a nearly 11 hour meeting.

Metro Councilman Steve Glover said the marathon meeting was "hijacked" by members of the public calling to defund the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The Tuesday meeting didn't adjourn until about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday as the sun began to rise. Countless citizens who called and showed up to City Hall Tuesday and early Wednesday overwhelmingly said the city could find some of that money by cutting the funding of the MNPD, which is set to get nearly $500 million in the proposed budget.

"Not in my lifetime and don't tell me that's what people in Nashville want to do is defund our police. Given all the activity that's happened over the weekend, given the fact that we couldn't cover it anyway, we're so short on police officers right now. We're 108 police officers short and now we want to defund our police department? I don't think so," Glover said. "We don't defund our police department, we don't defund our fire department, we don't defund our first responders. We have too few of them as it is right now."

As Glover said the meeting was "hijacked" by numerous people calling to defund police, he said only six people against the massive 32% property tax increase were heard from before the budget passed on second reading.

"I think the people of Nashville got cheated tonight," Glover said in an interview with FOX 17 News. "I'm extremely concerned about the length of it because here's what happened: All the people who did want to speak about it, oh they have jobs, so they were getting up and having to go to their work today, or they stayed up as long as they could. I can't tell you how many messages I got with people saying, 'I give up, I'm going to bed.'"

Metro Councilman Bob Mendes said the meeting ended up being more about the protests than the budget.

"It did strike me that it was more of a protest than a budget conversation which is awesome...again, really inspired when people came to speak their mind," Mendes said. "We didn't really get concrete budget suggestions from the group, but I really appreciate people showing up and talking to us."

The violence across America over the last few days does not represent a “hijacked peaceful protest.” This was and continues to be a synchronized, organized, and well coordinated nationwide violent assault against American cities by communists and jihadis working together to bring down the Republic.
