"Donald Trump has said the US will be in "a very good shape" in terms of the number of ventilators available by the time the coronavirus outbreak peaks.

The president said at least 10 US companies were now making the medical devices, and some might be exported.

The virus can cause severe respiratory issues, and ventilators help keep patients breathing.

However, several state and local officials have warned hospitals are at risk of running out of equipment.

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey, the US state with the second-highest number of cases, was the latest to raise the alarm, saying the "need [was] dire".

"We need more ventilators... This is real life. This is life and death," he said on Twitter.

Japanese destroyer is damaged in collision with Chinese fishing vessel in East China Sea?

CAMP FOSTER, Okinawa — A Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer, the JS Shimakaze, was damaged Monday after colliding with a Chinese fishing vessel in the East China Sea.

The incident occurred at 8:28 p.m. approximately 400 miles west of Yakushima Island, a Joint Staff spokesman said Tuesday. Yakushima is part of Kagoshima prefecture, and is about 40 miles south of Kyushu.

Japanese officials declined to release details on what caused the incident pending a joint investigation with its coast guard.

One of the 13 Chinese sailors aboard the fishing boat complained of minor back pain after the incident; none of the Shimakaze’s 260 sailors were injured, the spokesman said.

Some government spokespersons in Japan customarily speak to reporters under the condition of ANONymity.

"The US has renewed sanctions curtailing Iran's nuclear program for another 60 days, as Iran issued pleas for the US to ease its pressure campaign during the Covid-19 pandemic to avoid humanitarian and economic crisis.

"We will continue to use the full range of our diplomatic and economic tools to constrain Iran's destabilizing proliferation activities," the US State Department said in a statement.

The US re-imposed sweeping sanctions on Iran after Washington unilaterally left the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program in 2018. The move was blasted by the EU, Russia and China, who were also signatories of the agreement.

US President Donald Trump claimed that the Islamic Republic was secretly violating the JCPOA. However, the global nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), confirmed at the time that Iran was complying with the deal."

"More than 3,000 people have died from the CCP virus in the United States while over 164,539 cases have been confirmed, according to the latest data collated by Johns Hopkins University, which is tracking the global pandemic.

As of March 30, a reported 3,164 have died from the COVID-19 disease, with 914 of those deaths occurring in New York City, which has become the epicenter of the outbreak in the United States.

On Monday, New York’s Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued an urgent nationwide appeal for medical volunteers to join what he called the “front lines” as he and health officials warned that the crisis unfolding in the state is just a preview of what other U.S. communities could soon face, adding that the virus “doesn’t discriminate” and that no American is immune to the disease.

“We need to recruit more healthcare workers,” he told a briefing at a makeshift hospital at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. “We need to share healthcare professionals within this state and within this country. As governor of New York, I am asking healthcare professionals across the country, if you don’t have a healthcare crisis in your community, please come help us in New York now.”

“I don’t care if you live in Kansas. I don’t care if you live in Texas. There is no American that is immune … what is happening to New York is not an anomaly. There is nothing about a New Yorker’s immune system that is any different from any other American’s immune system. So in many ways, New York is just a canary in a coal mine.”

Before Cuomo’s appeal to medical volunteers, nearly 80,000 former nurses, doctors and other professionals were stepping up to volunteer, while the USNS Comfort, a Navy hospital ship featuring 1,000 beds and 12 operating rooms, arrived in New York harbor to help free up room in the city’s overwhelmed hospitals to handle those who have become sick from the CCP virus."

January 31. The first known case of COVID-19 in Spain was confirmed in La Gomera, Canary Islands, where a German tourist tested positive and was admitted to a local hospital.

February 12. Mobile World Congress, the world's largest mobile phone trade fair, which draws more than 100,000 participants from 200 countries, was cancelled due to fears of coronavirus. The financial loss to Barcelona and the city's hospitality industry was estimated to be €500 million ($560 million).

February 24. More than 1,000 guests and employees at the Costa Adeje Palace hotel in Tenerife, Canary Islands, were quarantined after an Italian citizen tested positive for COVID-19.

February 27. A 62-year-old man from Seville tested positive for COVID-19. His was the first case of local transmission of the virus in Spain. The man said that he believed he was infected during a banking conference in Malaga, where he sat next to a partner who traveled to the Canary Islands on vacation and had had contact with people from Asia. Doctors said that the diagnosis was of "great importance" because it proved that COVID-19 has been circulating in Spain without detection.

March 2. The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention advised European countries to cancel mass gatherings of people to prevent the transmission of coronavirus.

March 2. The Spanish Medical Agency sent a letter to pharmaceutical distributors to restrict the marketing of masks and to block their distribution across Spanish pharmacies. "The COVID-19 rapid test kits provided by China were found sub-standard in multiple European countries. As the Czech Republic news outlets reported, the error rate of the rapid COVID test kits from China is as high as 80%. Spain also purchased 5,500,000 rapid COVID test kits from China and found they give incorrect results for 70% of the time.

Fernando Simón, the head of Spain's health-emergencies coordination center, said on March 26 that Spain checked the first batch of test kits provided by China. Nine thousand of them were found to be faulty.

Fernando Simón: “A company sent an initial batch of 9,000 tests. Through quality assurance testing at the National Center of Epidemiology and hospitals in Madrid, it was shown that the specifications of this batch of tests did not correspond to the quality certificates. So, we returned that batch of tests. The company will exchange them for another type of test.”

It has been reported that Spain always used the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing to confirm infection by the COVID-19 virus. It takes about 4 hours to provide results. The Chinese Communist Party claimed that the rapid test kits they produced could provide results immediately by placing a patient’s nasal swab into the kits.

The Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology announced that the batch of rapid test kits provided by China had an accuracy rate of less than 30%. They don’t meet the standard accuracy rate of 80%.

The Czech Republic news outlets recently reported that the error rate of China's rapid test kits is as high as 80%. The medical staff will have to continue using the conventional methodology to confirm the CCP virus infection."

France, Germany & Britain send medical goods to Iran, test new trade mechanism

Germany, France and Britain have exported medical goods to Iran in the first transaction conducted under a new trade mechanism, Instex, Berlin said on Tuesday. The mechanism was set up to facilitate trade in humanitarian goods and food after the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal.

The German Foreign Ministry said the medical goods were now in Iran, adding that the trade mechanism and Tehran would now work on more transactions and on enhancing the system.

The three European states said earlier this month they had offered a $5.5 million package to Iran to help fight coronavirus there and are also sending medical material, including equipment for laboratory tests, protective body suits and gloves, Reuters said.

Macomb man with COVID-19 says Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin saved him

A Macomb County patient was recently given a drug typically used for malaria that is showing positive results for beating COVID-19.

Jim Santilli said it helped him and he believes it could help others, too.

"I was struggling to breathe. I felt like I was slowly drowning and I was sitting there thinking I'm not going to make it until midnight," he said.

Santilli says the experimental drugs Hydroxychloroquine and Azithromycin brought him back from the brink. The 38-year old was prescribed the drugs a little more than a week ago at Henry Ford Macomb where he was hospitalized for COVID-19.

He says a doctor told him they'd exhausted treatment options. An infectious disease physician recommended he try both.

"He stated at that point for COVID-19 patients they saw a lot of positive results in China and South Korea it would be advantageous to try it," Santilli said. "Right away I saw improvements in a few hours: the gasping for air stopped; a lot of my symptoms went away, and really it was a turning point almost a 180 degree turn as to what I was experiencing."

Exclusive: Japan businessman paid $8.2 million by Tokyo Olympics bid lobbied figure at center of French corruption probe

TOKYO/PARIS (Reuters) - A businessman who received millions of dollars for his work on Tokyo’s successful campaign to host the 2020 Olympics, which was postponed last week due to the coronavirus, said he played a key role in securing the support of a former Olympics powerbroker suspected by French prosecutors of taking bribes to help Japan’s bid.

Haruyuki Takahashi, a former executive at the advertising agency Dentsu Inc, was paid $8.2 million by the committee that spearheaded Tokyo’s bid for the 2020 Games, according to financial records reviewed by Reuters. Takahashi told Reuters his work included lobbying International Olympic Committee members like Lamine Diack, the ex-Olympics powerbroker, and that he gave Diack gifts, including digital cameras and a Seiko watch.

“They’re cheap,” he said.

The payments made Takahashi the single largest recipient of money from the Tokyo bid committee, which was mostly funded by Japanese companies. After his involvement in Tokyo’s successful campaign, Takahashi was named to the board of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, a group tasked with running the summer Games after it was awarded to Japan.

Takahashi acknowledged receiving the payments but declined to give a full accounting of how he used the money. He said he urged Diack to support the Tokyo bid and denied any impropriety in those dealings. He said it was normal to provide gifts as a way of currying good relations with important officials like Diack. He said there was nothing improper with the payments he received or with the way he used the money.

“You don’t go empty-handed. That’s common sense,” Takahashi told Reuters, referring to the gifts he gave Diack.

Banking records from the Tokyo 2020 bid committee, which were examined by Reuters, show it paid around $46,500 to Seiko Watch. A senior official at the bid told Reuters “good” watches were handed out at parties organized as part of Tokyo’s campaign to win the Olympics, although he did not specify the brand.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) regulations allowed for the giving of gifts of nominal value at the time of the 2020 bid, but didn’t stipulate a specific amount.

A day before the 2013 vote on the host city, Diack informed a meeting of African Olympic representatives that he planned to support Tokyo on merit, a lawyer for the influential Senegalese sports figure told Reuters. But he didn’t instruct anyone how to vote, the lawyer said.

The Tokyo bid committee also paid $1.3 million to a little-known non-profit institute run by former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori, a powerful figure in Japanese sports and the head of the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee.

The payments to Takahashi’s company and Mori’s non-profit are enumerated in banking records from the Tokyo 2020 bid committee examined by Reuters. The payments were first reported by Japanese magazine Facta. French investigators have not questioned anyone about the payments to the Japanese recipients.

The banking records were provided to French prosecutors by Japan’s government as part of France’s investigation into whether Tokyo’s bid committee paid $2.3 million through a Singaporean consultant to win Diack’s support for Japan to host the 2020 Games.

Diack, 86, has consistently denied any wrongdoing. His lawyer said Diack “denies all allegations of bribery.”

The French are also investigating Diack’s son, Papa Massata Diack, on suspicion that he received the bulk of the money paid to the Singaporean consultant, and passed money on to his father to secure votes for Tokyo. Diack’s son has also denied any wrongdoing and said via email that he would “deliver my version in courts!!!”

Mori did not respond to questions from Reuters. A representative of Mori’s non-profit said the entity was paid by the bid committee to “mainly analyze international information.”

Nobumoto Higuchi, the secretary general of the bid committee, said Takahashi earned commissions on the corporate sponsorships he collected for the bid. “Takahashi has connections,” Higuchi said. “We needed someone who understands the business world.”

The International Olympic Committee said it would not have been made aware of payments between private parties or gifts given to IOC members.

TIJUANA/CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico (Reuters) - The world's busiest land border has fallen quiet as restrictions to contain the coronavirus prevent millions of Mexicans from making daily trips north, including many who work in U.S. businesses.

At least 4 million Mexicans residing in cities along the 1,954-mile (3,144-km) border have been hit hard by the restrictions on non-essential travel. The measures effectively invalidate visas allowing short crossings into U.S. cities to visit family, get medical care or shop.

While such B1/B2 "border crossing cards" are officially recreational, Reuters spoke to nearly two dozen residents of Tijuana, Nogales and Ciudad Juarez who use their cards to reach jobs or to care for relatives on the U.S. side of the frontier.

All said they could no longer make the crossing, dealing another blow to businesses already suffering from shutdowns on the U.S. side of the border, including vital industries like agriculture.

"I don't know what I'm going to do without money. I'm just waiting for a miracle," said 28-year-old Rosario Cruz, a mother of two young children who works for a cleaning company that subcontracts with major retailers in California.

The coronavirus restrictions prohibit all non-essential travel across the border. However, the restrictions have not been widely imposed on U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico.

My take. Every B1 and B2 vis a needs investigating. B1 and B2 recreational visas used for employment needs to be investigated, the visas rovoked (no more than 4 weeks tops for a recreational visa) and employers JAILED, ARRESTED, and FINED for hiring B1/B2 visa holders.

The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology released a new directive titled: “Instructions on strengthening bio-security management in microbiology labs that handle advanced viruses like the novel coronavirus.”

China’s only Level 4 microbiology lab that is equipped to handle deadly coronaviruses, called the National Biosafety Laboratory, is part of the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Worldwide Criticism by Experts

Klayman is not the only one calling out China’s Biological Warfare activities. The University of Minnesota and Mayo Clinic are close to unveiling antibody tests that can determine if people have already been infected by the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and are no longer threats to get or spread the infection.

State health officials see these tests as a key part of Minnesota’s pandemic response, because they could define the breadth of the outbreak and maybe identify previously infected individuals who could move about in public freely and volunteer in response efforts.

Identifying people with immunity to the virus “gives us the ability [to know] who wouldn’t need to be quarantined, who could be out and not infecting others,” Gov. Tim Walz said on Monday.

Antibodies are proteins produced by the immune system in response to infections and can be found through tests of blood serum — the clear liquid that separates out when blood clots. In the case of SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing the current pandemic, antibodies don’t show up in sufficient quantities for eight to 11 days.

That makes antibody testing ineffective for the purpose of early diagnosis, but a potentially powerful tool for identifying anyone who was infected, whether they had symptoms or not. “In theory, you probably want to test everybody in the country,” said Marc Jenkins, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Immunology.

Testing could be particularly important for health care workers, whose infection risks could be heightened if they run out of protective masks and face shields when working with any surge of COVID-19 patients. If they’ve already been infected, those workers could have immunity — although there is only limited evidence so far that people cannot be reinfected by this coronavirus.

Jenkins’ team used a common chemical assay test, known as ELISA, and found that it correctly distinguished samples from two people with COVID-19 from two reference samples taken from people before the pandemic.

Researchers nationwide are racing to develop antibody tests, which under current emergency pandemic conditions would not need the usual level of review and approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Exactly how much verification of tests is needed is unclear, but Jenkins said he wants to at least get successful results for 10 positive and 10 negative specimens before even considering the test for public use. He expected to have that many results in the next couple of weeks.

“It’s going to take a lot more samples … to validate the test,” he said, “but we have a pipeline to do it and the results from these early tests were so clean that I’m pretty hopeful.”

Mayo has used more than 300 samples to evaluate the accuracy of three different assay tests, and has found one ELISA-based test to be most accurate, said Elitza Theel, director of Mayo’s Infectious Diseases Serology lab.

Theel said it will be critical for doctors to understand that the current molecular tests are still the best for diagnosing symptomatic patients — and that new antibody tests won’t solve any national shortage of those. However, from a disease-detective standpoint, health officials will be able to use antibody tests to determine when a community has achieved “herd immunity” — which means that enough people have already been infected that the risk of new infections starts to diminish.

COVID-19 is a respiratory illness caused by the novel coronavirus that emerged earlier this winter in Wuhan, China, and spread globally. Initial reports indicated a death rate of anywhere from 1% to 3.4%, but an abundance of antibody testing would provide a more accurate picture because it would allow for testing of both sick and healthy people to find out how many of them have been infected.

“When you have an actual true denominator, you’re able to determine the true case fatality rate,” Theel said.

Local studies on antibody testing didn’t occur until recently, because researchers needed substantial samples from COVID-19 patients to do it, and because there was a more immediate need to develop diagnostic molecular tests for the illness.

Quality problems with a molecular test created by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention initially delayed states such as Minnesota from using it. Then, supply shortages prevented its broader use, even as the coronavirus was spreading nationwide.

Mayo and other private labs created their own versions of the molecular tests, and now have conducted more such tests than the state’s public health lab, which has prioritized its limited supplies for hospitalized patients, long-term care facility residents and health care workers.

Jenkins said he first started looking at antibody tests when news of testing supply shortages emerged. Knowing that antibody testing could provide invaluable public information, he said he wanted to create a pipeline for these tests on which Minnesota could rely.

Jenkins acquired a COVID-19 protein that is critical to the test from Fang Li, the U researcher whose recent Nature journal article explored the genetic origins of this coronavirus and its evolved mechanism for infecting cells.

Other coronaviruses cause the common cold and also were responsible for global SARS and MERS outbreaks. Jenkins said he will be checking to make sure the newly developed test identifies only cases of COVID-19 infections.

Whether antibody testing could be used as an all-clear system for people is based on a key assumption: that people develop at least short-term immunity to the coronavirus.

One small study in China found no reinfections in monkeys when they were exposed to the virus a second time. Researchers also believe that people develop immunity to other coronaviruses that lasts months or maybe years. Antibodies were found in patients six years after the 2002-2003 SARS epidemic.

Jenkins said it appears likely there is at least temporary immunity, but it’s unclear whether people will get lifetime immunity after only one infection from this virus — as is the case with polio and chickenpox. On the other hand, people only develop immunity one at a time to the many different types of rhinoviruses, which cause common colds, he said.

As many as 80% of people infected by this coronavirus suffer mild or no symptoms. A reliable test could be a relief to many people if they knew they now had immunity, Jenkins said. “Just for the psychological well-being of a lot of people, this could have real value.”

Pro-China Joe is anointed the nominee and the quarantines provide a convenient excuse for Joe to avoid anything more than short scripted podcasts from home. Compare this to President Trump holding a daily briefing, speaking and answering endless questions from the media for hours at a time. Could Biden handle five minutes of Trump’s life? No way.

Bernie Sanders, for the second time in four years, has quickly become irrelevant as the Democrat establishment found a convenient excuse to offer him the consolation prize again.

Joe’s nomination is all but secured and he is safely tucked away until the summer convention. Biden’s rallies were a snooze fest, unlike Trump’s. Yet both are shut down because of the virus. What a coincidence.

Ironically, while not exactly a campaign rally, President Trump is in front of millions of Americans every day during his Coronavirus briefings, acting presidential, masterfully answering questions, inspiring confidence, while Biden is sputtering during low ratings cable news interviews where he can’t remember how many grandchildren he has.

Last week the House held the country hostage over the Chinese virus relief bill, loading it with pork, practicing the Rahm Emanuel axiom of “never let a crisis go to waste”. What an opportunity for Democrats to get their wish list, delaying financial assistance to millions of Americans in an effort to reinstate Obama-phones and mandate green energy standards. Democrats needed a national disaster to push some of their unpopular schemes through Congress. Another coincidence.

As cities and states shut down with stay-at-home orders, based on media led panic and frenzy, the economy takes further hits, hurting the incumbent president who up until recently was running for reelection on his roaring economy. What a coincidence.

Tying it all together, Trump is indeed an existential threat to the globalist agenda including open borders and an America-last policy. China is under Trump’s thumb, its superpower status threatened as global supply chains may now steer far clear of China's Belt and Road Initiative. Trump is cruising to reelection against a hapless senile Democrat candidate. In a second term, without facing another election, Trump is free to complete his MAGA agenda.

How convenient that a long-predicted viral outbreak occurred at the perfect time to inflict maximum damage on the president. Are these just a series of random events or is there a pattern? Kennedy International Airport in New York for a flight to Trinidad, where he planned to attend a funeral, he said. But police stopped the consultant at the gate and arrested him under a year-old warrant, alleging he’d given bogus information for a state identification card in New Jersey.

The consultant, who spoke on condition that he be identified only by his first name, Bill, knew jail would be terrible. But he said he was shaken by an apparent lack of protection against the coronavirus for inmates and workers.

His first night in the Vernon C. Bain Center, a floating jail in the East River, was spent on a floor, lying back-to-back with other men, “like a slave ship,” he said. Then he was assigned to a dorm at the floating jail where inmates — many of them charged with nonviolent crimes or parole violations — bunked about 3 feet apart, ate at communal tables, shared toilets, showers and phones and had soap but no masks, disinfectant or alcohol wipes to keep their detention space clean, he said. New inmates arrived, others left. Corrections officers guarded them without much protective gear beyond gloves. They tracked news of the virus’ spread on the day-room television.

“We were left to our own defenses,” Bill recalled. “We didn’t know what was going to happen to us with the virus. We were in cramped quarters where no one really cared.

That sense of being stalked by a deadly disease without being able to defend against it pervades New York City jails, according to inmates, reform advocates, defense lawyers, health officials and the union representing corrections officers. So far, 167 inmates and 114 Department of Correction staff members have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, signs that it is being transmitted inside facilities and following those who are infected as they return to outside communities.

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who has been vacationing in Germany this month, is now reportedly self-isolating in a luxury hotel there with an entourage of 20 concubines and servants, reports say.

The 67-year-old is said to have booked out the entire Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl in the Alpine resort town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen after obtaining “special permission” from local officials, according to The Independent. MOSCOW (Reuters) - A doctor who gave Russian President Vladimir Putin a tour of Moscow’s main coronavirus hospital last week has himself been diagnosed with the virus, the Rossiya 24 state TV channel reported on Tuesday.

Putin visited the Kommunarka hospital last Tuesday where he chatted to the doctor, Denis Protsenko. Neither of them were wearing protective equipment during their conversation, TV footage from the visit showed.

Van Gogh painting stolen from Dutch museum

March 30 (UPI) - A painting by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh was stolen in an early morning break-in at the Singer Laren museum in the Netherlands on Monday, museum officials said.

The painting, De Lentetuin, which, in English is known as Spring Garden, the vicarage garden in Nuenen in the spring, was on loan to the museum from the Groninger Museum.

Police said the theft happened around 3:15 a.m. The thief or thieves broke a large glass door at the front of the museum and tripped a burglar alarm.

Authorities said when they arrived at the museum, no suspects were found.

"I am extremely pissed off that this happened. This is a huge blow," museum director Jan Rudolph de Lorm said during a news conference. "This is extremely difficult, especially in these times."

The director of the Groninger Museum, Andreas Blühm, said the Dutch people were the real victims of the theft.

"We are not deterred. We will ensure that it is back as soon as possible," he said.

Officials at the Singer Laren museum said there were no lapses in the facility's security procedures that could have allowed the theft to happen, according to Nos.nl.

The 1884 painting, which is about 15 inches by 28 inches, depicts the garden of the Dutch Reformist Church in Nuenen, which is where van Gogh's father was a vicar.

IRS orders office evacuation, affecting most agency employees

The directions include employees who don’t have a telework agreement.

The IRS issued a nearly blanket evacuation order to its workforce beginning today, the latest in a series of steps to shrink the number of on-site employees due to the coronavirus pandemic.

An agency-wide email from IRS Human Capital Officer Robin Bailey on Friday explained that all employees “including employees who are currently not teleworking but whose work is portable or can be adapted to work off-site" must "evacuate the work site” and either work from home or an alternate location.

The directions include employees who don’t have a telework agreement. Prior guidance from management had told telework-eligible employees to work remotely.

But the evacuation order isn't universal for the IRS workforce, which totaled about 73,500 full-time equivalent positions in 2018, according to the most recently available data. The headcount grows this time of year due to seasonal hires to accommodate tax return filing season.

The order was first reported by Federal News Network.

Bailey’s message didn’t address how the evacuation would affect tax returns, refunds or direct payments of $1,200 for most Americans that the IRS will play a large part in distributing. Press liaisons didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Gaffney has rightfully been very critical of said Republicans in the past for their comments and actions relative to Muslim Brotherhood front groups.

Moreover, Ellison seemed to allege in his July 12th letter that Gaffney was Bachmann’s only source.

Here is how Ellison ended that letter:

Despite Mr. Gaffney’s record of unsubstantiated allegations, you appear to have based your letters to the Inspectors General on his views.

I request that you provide my office a full accounting of the sources you used to make the serious allegations against the individuals and organizations in your letters. Judge indicates ruling in Meng Wanzhou case not being released in 'near future'

The judge presiding over the Meng Wanzhou extradition hearing has indicated she will not be releasing her much-anticipated ruling in the case in the near future.

B.C. Supreme Court Associate Chief Justice Heather Holmes made the comment during a short case-management conference Monday.

Although many regular court cases have been adjourned due to COVID-19 concerns, the Meng proceeding went ahead as previously scheduled.

The Huawei executive and her lawyers were not present in court but were connected to the proceeding through a teleconferencing call that also included federal Crown prosecutors.

As the hearing began, the judge, who was present, noted that the small number of people in the courtroom were maintaining the social-distancing requirement of health authorities during the pandemic. The small turnout contrasted sharply with prior appearances in the high-profile case that have featured large numbers of people, including reporters, crowding into the courtroom.

The judge’s expected ruling deals with Meng’s application that she be discharged on the grounds that the Crown has failed to meet the test for double-criminality in the extradition process.

Meng, who was arrested at the Vancouver airport in December 2018 and is being sought for extradition to the U.S. on fraud charges, claims that the essence of the alleged conduct is a violation of U.S. sanctions to Iran, an offence that doesn’t exist in Canada.

During several days of submissions in January, the Crown argued that the heart of the case is the alleged fraud of lying to bank officials who were inquiring into links between Huawei and a former subsidiary doing business in Iran in violation of the U.S. sanctions.

If Meng wins the double-criminality argument, she will be released. If she loses, the case proceeds to the next stage, dealing with an allegation by Meng that Canadian authorities engaged in an abuse of process in arresting her.

Lawyers for the Crown told the judge Monday that they had produced a substantial number of documents for Meng in response to Holmes’s order in December that they provide more disclosure in relation to the arrest.

The judge was told that court appearances previously scheduled for June should be kept for now.

The next appearance in the case is set for April 27 and will deal with a litigation plan that contemplates the COVID-19 concerns as they stand at that point.

Ohio: Kids Abused After Child "Protection" Services Puts them In Home With Sex Abuse Suspects

Another day, another episode of incompetence from our lovely overlords at a government bureau. This time, child welfare officials in Dayton, Ohio, placed children in a home of not one, but two sexual abuse suspects that were under police investigation. Not surprisingly, those children later reported that they were also abused.

Dayton Daily News reports:

Montgomery County Children Services placed a 4-year-old girl into a home with two known sex assault suspects, a Dayton police report says, and kept the child in the home after the girl and her 5-year-old brother said she was sexually abused there.

The report obtained by the Dayton Daily News says Dayton police launched their investigation when school staff alerted officers of the potential sexual abuse. Dayton police say the investigation is ongoing, though the allegations extend back to 2018.

In the sex abuse case, Dayton police officers found Children Services removed the sister and brother in November 2017 to get them out of a household where their mother was the victim of domestic violence. Children Services placed the children with their grandfather, who had twice been charged with rape but not convicted, although he was convicted of domestic violence and a suspect in two other sexual assault cases.

Already living in the home was a teenager placed there by Children Services because the teen sexually assaulted a 5-year-old family member in another county, the report says.

The 4-year-old first told her mother that her grandfather was abusing her during a visitation in July 2018, shortly before the mother was to regain custody. The mother told the caseworker about the allegation, according to the police report, but the caseworker allegedly didn’t follow orders to schedule a forensic examination, left the girl in the home with the grandfather and then continued court-mandated visitations between the grandfather and the children after the mother got the kids back.

In response to questions from the Dayton Daily News, Montgomery County Children Services officials said they conducted an internal review of the case but would not release the outcome of that review or comment on the case, saying agency records are confidential under state law.

Personnel records obtained by the Dayton Daily News show she received a Letter of Instruction in April 2019 for not adhering to the agency’s mandated reporting policy in July 2018. She remains employed at the agency.

The letter of instruction says that if an agency employee is notified that a child is a victim or at risk of being a victim of abuse or neglect by a parent, guardian or custodian, the employee must immediately contact the agency’s intake screening unit. It says they must then immediately fax over a report and notify a supervisor.

No records of any other Children Services employee being disciplined for how this case was handled were given to the Dayton Daily News in response to a public records request.

And the criminal history of this *alleged* abusing grandfather? You won’t believe this:

Dayton police records obtained by the Dayton Daily News show the grandfather was accused in 2006 of offering a prostitute a ride home, then pulling into an alley on the way, saying he had a gun and raping her. Police were able to track him down because she remembered his vanity license plate, the report says. He was charged with rape but a grand jury later declined to indict him and the case was dismissed, according to court records.

In 2007, he was charged with rape, kidnapping, gross sexual imposition and another sexual assault charge. He was found not guilty by a jury.

Also in 2007, the grandfather was convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence after his 16-year-old son went to Children’s Medical Center for stitches and said his father hit him.

When the children were placed in the home in 2017, Dayton police records say the grandfather was named as a suspect in two additional sexual assault cases that have since been closed with no charges filed...

As a result, over the past 4 years we had seen a procession of prominent funds gating investors, starting with the junk bond fiasco at Third Avenue which led to a premature end for the asset manager, then the three largest UK property funds suddenly froze over $12 billion in assets in the aftermath of the Brexit vote; two years later the Swiss multi-billion fund manager GAM blocked redemptions, followed by iconic UK investor Neil Woodford also suddenly gating investors despite representations of solid returns and liquid assets, then it was the ill-named, Nataxis-owned H20 Asset Management decided to freeze redemptions; then the largest UK property fund, M&G, halted redemptions, and finally in December, distressed investing giants York Capital Management and Southpaw Asset Management also barred clients from redeeming money they have requested for year-end, a sign of the pressure that investors in distressed assets are facing.

All this, of course, happened before the investing world turned upside down as a result of the chinavirus and fastest bear market in history. Yet curiously despite the furious market plunge in March, besides the occasional false rumor, there had not been any prominent hedge fund casualties, or even redemption gates.

That changed today when the WSJ reported that $7 billion hedge fund EJF Capital LLC told clients it was suspending redemptions from one of its funds for the foreseeable future because it didn't want to be a forced seller in what it called "dysfunctional" credit markets. And so once again the liquidity mismatch strikes.

According to the WSJ, EJF founded by Emanuel "Manny" Friedman, told clients in a letter Friday it was preventing investors from withdrawing their money from its Debt Opportunities Fund which managed $2.5 billion at the end of February. What is disturbing is that while the fund received redemption requests totaling only 6% of its assets under management for March 31, the letter said, it wanted to "protect all of the Fund's investors by not selling assets into a non-functioning market." "We are currently experiencing unprecedented volatility and dysfunction in the credit markets," Mr. Friedman and EJF co-Chief Executive Neal Wilson wrote in the letter. "Market participants fear extreme and irreversible damage as the uncertainty emanating from the chinavirus spreads. We believe this fear of permanent economic damage, combined with an only nascent fiscal response from Congress, has led to the tightening of credit available to pooled investment vehicles such as the Fund over the past few weeks." This means that either the fund is telling the truth, or more likely the modest redemptions would mean that the Fund would have to drastically remark its holdings to a far lower "market", in the process triggering ever more investor panic and redemptions. As a result, the founders "fear" not permanent economic damage, but a cascade of outflows which could lead to feedback loop which results in more firesales, more redemptions and the eventual liquidation of the fund.

The Arlington, Virginia based fund was down an estimated 15% for the month of March through March 27, and includes Anthony Scaramucci's SkyBridge Capital as an investor.

Clown town

The letter said the fund would reassess the suspension quarterly, adding it was unlikely to be lifted in time for June redemptions because of the advance notice clients are required to give. In other words, anyone who is invested and needs their money now is stuck. Unlike a mutual fund, hedge funds offer their investors only periodic opportunities to redeem, and their investors typically have to submit withdrawal requests well in advance of those dates.

EJF's Debt Opportunities Fund holds mainly debt issued by banks and insurance companies and structured-credit securities collateralized by debt issued by banks and insurance companies, the letter said. It also holds stock in banks and other financial services firms. While the fund has kept all its financing lines, the letter said financing had "become both limited as well as more expensive" in the past few weeks. The letter also said the fund had seen and met "unprecedented margin calls" but so far been able to avoid firesaling assets.

Of course that would have changed had the fund seen a flood of redemption requests; hence the "gate."

A senior official with Iran's state gas company has alleged that terrorists were behind an explosion and massive fire on the pipeline transporting natural gas from the Islamic Republic to Turkey.

"This morning, terrorists attacked a natural gas pipeline inside Turkey near Iran's Bazargan border with Turkey," National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Dispatching Director Mehdi Jamshidi Dana said on Tuesday, as cited by Reuters.

The official told IRNA that fighters from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a guerilla group active in eastern Turkey, have attacked the pipeline in the past. NIGC spokesperson Mohammad Asgari, meanwhile, described the blast as an "incident" without linking it to terrorism. According to the NIGC, at least one person was killed.

The explosion rocked the pipeline near the Gurbulak border gate with Iran in Turkey's eastern Agri Province around 6am local time. Turkish media reported that the loud blast sparked a massive fire that could be seen by residents in local villages, with flames rising up to 40 meters (131 feet).

What the Federal Reserve has done in the chinavirus crisis

Here’s a look at some of the steps taken by the Fed so far:

** RATE CUTS

The Fed cut rates twice on an emergency basis this month, the first time it has done that since the financial crisis in 2008. The first cut of a half percentage point was on March 3 and the second of a full point was on March 15, which brought the Fed’s overnight borrowing rate for banks back to near zero. The reduction is meant to keep down the cost of loans for banks - and by extension their customers - to ensure borrowers have ample access to credit during the crisis.

** REPO MARKET

The Fed has been intervening in money markets since last fall, when a cash shortage led to a jump in short-term borrowing rates. Policymakers had planned this year to scale back operations in the market for repurchase agreements, or repo, through which dealers can borrow cash. But as the economic threat posed by the coronavirus increased, the central bank pivoted to offering almost unlimited support in the overnight lending markets for cash. On March 31, the Fed also announced that it broadened its repo agreements with foreign central banks, allowing them to exchange their holdings of U.S. Treasury securities for overnight dollar loans.

** QUANTITATIVE EASING (QE)

The Fed first employed QE in the financial crisis, starting in 2008. The idea is that through large-scale purchases of various types of bonds - mostly Treasuries and mortgage-backed securities - it helps ensure that longer-term interest rates like those for mortgages and car loans remain low and helps keep major purchases affordable for consumers and businesses. When it cut rates back to near zero on March 15, the Fed restarted these large-scale purchases and is now doing so with an open-ended commitment.

** DISCOUNT WINDOW

Banks in recent weeks have borrowed the most since 2009 from the Fed’s lending tool of last resort at the urging of the central bank. The so-called “discount window” is rarely used because banks are worried that using it could make them appear weak. But policymakers have lowered the rate charged on the funding to 0.25% and extended the length of the loans offered from one day to 90 days. As of last Wednesday, banks had borrowed more than $50 billion.

** CENTRAL BANK FOREIGN CURRENCY SWAP LINES

The Fed has standing agreements with five other major foreign central banks - the Bank of Canada, European Central Bank, Bank of England, Bank of Japan and Swiss National Bank - that allows them to provide U.S. dollars to their financial institutions during times of stress. The Fed has increased the frequency of the operations to daily from weekly. It also offered temporary swap lines here to nine additional countries to ease access to dollars, which are in high demand because the liabilities of many foreign governments and companies are denominated in the U.S. currency.

** TERM ASSET-BACKED SECURITIES LOAN FACILITY

Through an SPV, the TALF program will buy bundles of assets secured by auto loans, credit cards, student loans, loans backed by the Small Business Administration and other types of credit. Its aim is to make sure banks and other lenders such as auto finance companies have ample cash to keep making loans to consumers and businesses during the crisis.

** COMMERCIAL PAPER FUNDING FACILITY

The Fed reintroduced the CPFF, a tool it used during the last financial crisis, to get money directly into the hands of large businesses, which are major employers. Like the TALF, it will use an SPV to make purchases of commercial paper, an essential source of short-term funding for many companies. The market had come under strain amid worries that companies hit by efforts to slow the spread of the coronavirus would not be able to repay their IOUs.

** PRIMARY MARKET CORPORATE CREDIT FACILITY

With this program, the Fed will act as a backstop for corporate debt issued by highly rated companies. Through an SPV, the PMCCF will buy bonds and issue loans to companies that can help them cover business expenses and stay in operation. The debt must be repaid to the PMCCF within four years.

** SECONDARY MARKET CORPORATE CREDIT FACILITY

Closely related to the PMCCF, under this program an SPV will purchase corporate bonds and exchange-traded funds in the secondary market, or the public market where these securities are traded after they are first issued. The market liquidity added by the Fed is meant to stabilize conditions in the corporate bond market and make it easier for companies to raise funds there. Only so-called investment grade securities are eligible for purchase.

** MONEY MARKET MUTUAL FUND LIQUIDITY FACILITY

This new facility is meant to keep the $3.8 trillion money market mutual fund industry functioning even when investors are withdrawing money at a fast clip. The tool offers loans of up to one year to financial institutions that pledge as collateral high-quality assets like U.S. Treasury bonds that they have purchased from money market mutual funds. The Fed indirectly encourages banks to buy assets from money market funds, reducing the odds that the funds will need to sell those assets at a loss to meet redemptions.

Theodore Roosevelt captain makes urgent plea for individual quarantine sites as COVID-19 cases multiply

The commanding officer of aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt is pleading with the Navy to step up its response to COVID-19 and secure individualized isolation for the ship’s crew as COVID-19 cases aboard the ship continue to multiply, according to a new report.

While most of the Roosevelt crew remains in cramped quarters aboard the carrier, a small percentage of sailors are starting to move into group quarantine sites on shore in Guam to limit the spread of the virus — and only one of these sites is in compliance with NAVADMIN guidance.

As a result, current efforts to combat COVID-19 are inadequate, according to the Roosevelt’s commanding officer Capt. Brett Crozier.

Crozier argued that the group quarantine sites would merely delay the spread of COVID-19 in a letter to Navy officials on Monday, obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle. Likewise, he noted that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center advise against group quarantine, and instead suggest individual quarantine.

“Sailors do not need to die,” Crozier wrote in the letter. “If we do not act now, we are failing to properly take care of our most trusted asset — our Sailors.”

MOST NORTH KOREANS don't spend much of their lives in front of a computer. But some of the lucky few who do, it seems, have been hit with a remarkable arsenal of hacking techniques over the last year—a sophisticated spying spree that some researchers suspect South Korea may have pulled off.

Cybersecurity researchers at Google's Threat Analysis Group revealed on Thursday that an unnamed group of hackers used no fewer than five zero-day vulnerabilities, or secret hackable flaws in software, to target North Koreans and North Korea-focused professionals in 2019. The hacking operations exploited flaws in Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Windows with phishing emails that carried malicious attachments or links to malicious sites, as well as so-called watering hole attacks that planted malware on victims' machines when they visited certain websites that had been hacked to infect visitors via their browsers.

Google declined to comment on who might be responsible for the attacks, but Russian security firm Kaspersky tells WIRED it has linked Google's findings with DarkHotel, a group that has targeted North Koreans in the past and is suspected of working on behalf of the South Korean government.

South Koreans spying on a northern adversary that frequently threatens to launch missiles across the border is not unexpected. But the country's ability to use five zero days in a single spy campaign within a year represents a surprising level of sophistication and resources. "Finding this many zero-day exploits from the same actor in a relatively short time frame is rare," writes Google TAG researcher Toni Gidwani in the company's blog post. "The majority of targets we observed were from North Korea or individuals who worked on North Korea-related issues." In a follow-up email, Google clarified that a subset of the victims were not merely from North Korea, but in the country—suggesting that these targets weren't North Korean defectors, whom the North Korean regime frequently targets.

Within hours of Google linking the zero-day vulnerabilities to attacks targeting North Koreans, Kaspersky was able to match two of the vulnerabilities—one in Windows, one in Internet Explorer—with those it has specifically tied to DarkHotel. The security firm had previously seen those bugs exploited to plant known DarkHotel malware on their customers' computers. (Those DarkHotel-linked attacks occurred before Microsoft patched its flaws, Kaspersky says, suggesting that DarkHotel wasn't merely reusing another group's vulnerabilities.) Since Google attributed all five zero-days to a single hacker group, "it’s quite likely that all of them are related to DarkHotel," says Costin Raiu, the head of Kaspersky's Global Research & Analysis Team.

Raiu points out that DarkHotel has a long history of hacking North Korean and Chinese victims, with a focus on espionage. "They're interested in getting information such as documents, emails, pretty much any bit of data they can from these targets," he adds. Raiu declined to speculate on what country's government might be behind the group. But DarkHotel is widely suspected of working on behalf of the South Korean government, and the Council on Foreign Relations names DarkHotel's suspected state sponsor as the Republic of Korea.

60 Minutes Australia caught re-using fake CV video footage from Italy in their New York CV reporting 2 weeks later.

These are two different screencaps, taken from two different videos, both posted by 60 Minutes Australia. The videos were posted 13 days apart. First video claims to be from NYC Elmhurst Hospital, on Mar 29th. The second video claims to be from Italy, on Mar 16th. Both videos use the same b-roll footage. On closer inspection the patients do not appear to be being treated for a respiratory condition.

Attempted coup & assassinations: Venezuelan prosecutors subpoena Guaido as ‘among main perpetrators’ in US-backed regime-change op

Venezuela’s prosecutors have summoned Juan Guaido over his role in the “attempted coup d’etat,” as well as in alleged assassination attempts. Guaido is the main figure in US-backed efforts to oust President Nicolas Maduro.

The move was announced by Attorney General Tarek William Saab on Tuesday in a televised speech. The official described Guaido as “one of the main perpetrators” of a "new" attempted coup.

The move comes after a cache of weaponry, said to be smuggled into Venezuela, was seized in neighboring Colombia last week.

“As part of last week's initial investigation into an attempted coup and assassination, following the unveiling of an arsenal of war, we have issued a summons for one of those responsible to appear next Thursday in the Prosecutor's Office,” Saab stated.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido proclaimed himself Venezuela’s “interim president” back then, trying to oust the sitting president, Nicolas Maduro. The takeover effort received broad support from the US and its allies, who rushed to recognize Guaido as the ‘legitimate’ leader of Venezuela.

However, repeated attempts to dislodge Maduro from power, including mass-protests, a failed military coup and a thinly-veiled yet persistent threat of a US-backed invasion, have been unsuccessful so far.

Guaido’s subpoena comes shortly after Washington again ramped up its anti-Maduro game and indicted Venezuela’s president on drug charges. The Venezuelan foreign ministry has brushed off the allegations as “a new form of coup d’etat” that just showed the “desperation” of the “Washington elite.”

Austria Declares Wearing Masks Mandatory in Supermarkets

Austria has introduced measures to halt the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus, including making it mandatory to wear masks in supermarkets.

The government, led by Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, announced the measures this week stating that protective masks would be handed out to the public at the entrances of supermarkets and must be worn while shopping.

Chancellor Kurz stated that masks were still no substitute for keeping a safe distance from others and, according to newspaper Kronen Zeitung, stated: “I am fully aware that masks are something foreign to our culture.”

Minister of Health Rudolf Anschober, a member of the Green Party, added that the masks would only be effective for a period of about four hours and that they would help make sure the capacity of hospitals was not overwhelmed.

The government has also ordered a large part of the tourism sector to shut down, with a ban on overnight stays in hotels and guest houses.

Kurz added that Austria’s hospitals could become overwhelmed within the next two weeks with just 1,071 intensive care beds still available across the country and 908 ventilators.

“How long the overload lasts, especially in intensive care medicine, depends on all of us. It is already clear that many people will die from this disease. But we have to do our utmost to ensure that no more people die than have to die,” Kurz said.

Vice-Chancellor Werner Kogler, leader of the Green Party, added that he saw the current situation as a “calm before the storm” and said: “If we listen to the experts, I am in favour of orienting ourselves to those who draw the more dramatic scenarios.”

Despite sharing a border with Italy, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak in Europe, Austria has managed to keep cases at just over 9,000 as of Monday with 108 deaths.

Italy, by contrast, continues to see growth in cases and deaths, with over 100,000 confirmed cases and 11,591 deaths as of Monday.

Hungary to UN: If You Can’t Help Us Fight Pandemic, Get Out of the Way

The Hungarian government has hit back at the United Nations and other globalist organisations over criticism of its anti-coronavirus policies.

“The Hungarian government’s primary concern during the coronavirus pandemic is the protection of human lives,” insisted Dr Zoltán Kovács, Hungary’s Secretary of State for International Communication and Relations, in an official blog post.

“Those voicing unfounded claims about our management of this crisis threatening democracy and the rule of law in Hungary are fighting an imaginary enemy,” he said.

In common with many countries, the Hungarian government has introduced measures which would be considered draconian in peacetime to combat the pandemic, declaring a state of emergency, suspending parliament — like Candada — and banning the publication of false information “capable of hindering or thwarting the effectiveness of the containment effort.”

While globalist-led countries such as France, which requires citizens to fill in a government form every time they leave the house, have largely escaped criticism, given the extraordianry circumstances of the pandemic, Hungary’s pro-border, anti-multiculturalism government has been accused of sliding into dictatorship.

It is said that the measures against publishing false information, in particular, “could negatively affect the legitimate work of journalists and have a potentially chilling effect on freedom of expression in Hungary”, according to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

“Taking into consideration the recently identified fake news and its impact (‘Breaking news: Coronavirus vaccine discovered’, ‘Government to put Budapest under lockdown’, etc.) Fake news and deliberate distortions could potentially threaten human lives, and the state should have recourse to sanction them,” Kovács shot back. The minister pointed out the restrictions applied to “false statements of fact” and not “critical opinions”, and that the decision on whether a statement was true or false would be down to the courts, not the government.

It is the case that false claims about bootleg alcohol serving as a coronavirus “cure” have led to hundreds of deaths in Iran, for example.

Kovács concluded his rebuttal with a combative message for both the United Nations and the Council of Europe, namely: “If you are unable to help us in the current crisis, please at least refrain from obstructing our defence efforts.”

NY Releases Level 3 Sex Offenders Convicted of Raping Minors - Part of COVID Response

One of the most confounding things about liberals is their penchant for releasing

dangerous criminals back onto the streets any time they get the chance, and it seems the coronavirus pandemic is as good an excuse as any to free even more miscreants.

The latest to get in on the coronavirus prisoner release fun is the Monroe County Jail in western New York, which was required by a statewide edict from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision to release about 50 inmates, according to WROC-TV in Rochester.

These aren’t just any garden-variety petty thieves or drug users.

Among those released, at least four are registered sex offenders, three of whom are considered Level 3 offenders — meaning they have been convicted of raping minors and are deemed by the state as most likely to reoffend.

If that wasn’t bad enough, nine of the prisoners — including the sex offenders — are being housed at a Holiday Inn Express in Greece, New York, the report said.

The police chief of that town, Patrick Phelan, is just as confused by this insanity as the rest of us.

Judge Deals Blow To Texas Abortion Policy After Governor Declares It ‘Non-Essential’

Judge Lee Yeakel, who serves on the United States District Court for Western District of Texas, ruled Monday that abortion clinics must temporarily remain open and cannot be prohibited from performing non-medically necessary abortions as a public health measure.

According to Politico, Judge Yeakel maintained that the Supreme Court has already ruled against enshrining an “outright ban” on abortions, and equated the state’s desire to limit access to the procedure to an effective ban.

“Regarding a woman’s right to a pre-fetal-viability abortion, the Supreme Court has spoken clearly. There can be no outright ban on such a procedure,” said Judge Yeakel, reports the news agency.

“This court will not speculate on whether the Supreme Court included a silent ‘except-in-a-national-emergency clause’ in its previous writings on the issue,” said Judge Yeakel.

The New York Times reports that the procedure has been given temporary amnesty within the state until the courts can fully decide whether temporary abortion bans on non-medically necessary abortions can continue amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

Last week, Governor Gregg Abbott (R-TX) temporarily banned abortion clinics from continuing to perform them, arguing that such procedures were “non-essential” and that allowing them to continue would unnecessarily diminish the state’s medical supplies.

As NBC News reports, multiple states have enacted emergency policies that prohibit abortion clinics from performing them during the coronavirus pandemic, but the policies have been challenged by abortion advocates.

“We cannot let anti-abortion activists dictate public health policy. A global pandemic is not an excuse to attack essential, time-sensitive medical procedures like abortion,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, acting president of Planned Parenthood, the organization that filed the lawsuit against Texas, reports the news agency.

It is no secret that over the last 4 decades, mainstream media has been consolidated from dozens of competing companies to only six. Hundreds of channels, websites, news outlets, newspapers, and magazines, making up ninety percent of all media is controlled by very few people—giving Americans the illusion of choice.

While six companies controlling most everything the Western world consumes in regard to media may sound like a sinister arrangement, the Swiss Propaganda Research center (SPR) has just released information that is even worse.

The research group was able to tie all these media companies to a single organization—the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

For those who may be unaware, the CFR is a primary member of the circle of Washington think-tanks promoting endless war. As former Army Major Todd Pierce describes, this group acts as “primary provocateurs” using “‘psychological suggestiveness’ to create a false narrative of danger from some foreign entity with the objective being to create paranoia within the U.S. population that it is under imminent threat of attack or takeover.”

A senior member of the CFR and outspoken neocon warmonger, Robert Kagan has even publicly proclaimed that the US should create an empire.

The narrative created by CFR and its cohorts is picked up by their secondary communicators, also known the mainstream media, who push it on the populace with no analysis or questioning.

When looking at the chart from SPR, the reach by this single organization is so vast that it is no mystery as to how these elite psychopaths guide Americans into accepting endless war at the expense of their mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters.

Top journalists and executives from all major media companies are integrated into the CFR. As the chart below illustrates, the CFR has even more control in the mainstream media than even the nefarious Bilderberg Group and the Trilateral Commission.

Four multi-national companies - Coca-Cola, Nestlé, PepsiCo and Unilever are responsible for half a million tonnes of plastic pollution in six countries per year.

A study by international relief agency Tearfund is the first to quantify the amount of plastic waste burnt in Brazil, Nigeria, Mexico, India, China and The Philippines.

The plastic being burnt by the giant corporations creates emissions equivalent to 4.6 million tonnes of CO2 every year - the same as 2 million cars on UK roads.

Coca-Cola was the worst of the four companies - with 200,000 tonnes of plastic or about eight billion bottles burnt or dumped in those countries annually.

A spokesperson for Coca-Cola said they are talking to TearFund and 'recognise that we have a responsibility to help solve the situation to reduce plastic waste.'

NJ governor begrudgingly reverses his gun store shutdown after Trump admin labels them 'essential' businesses

New Jersey Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy reversed his order to force the closure of gun stores in the state Monday following backlash from gun-rights groups and a directive from the Trump administration.

Gun stores will now be allowed to reopen after a nearly two-week shutdown, but would operate "by appointment only and under limited hours."

Murphy made the announcement begrudgingly in a news conference Monday, saying the reversal came after the Department of Homeland Security issued guidelines over the weekend referring to gun dealers, ranges, and manufacturers as "essential" businesses.

"It wouldn't be my definition, but that's the definition at the federal level and I didn't get a vote on that," Murphy said during the briefing, according to NJ.com.

Murphy issued an executive order on March 21 that closed all nonessential retail businesses — including gun stores — amid the state's coronavirus outbreak. The order effectively shut down all firearm sales in the state as the online portal used to process background checks was also forced to close.

"The exigencies surrounding this viral pandemic both justify and necessitate changes in the manner in which people live their lives and conduct their daily business," the lawsuit stated. "However, this emergency (like any other emergency) has its constitutional limits. It would not justify a prior restraint on speech, nor a suspension of the right to vote. Just the same, it does not justify a ban on obtaining guns and ammunition."

In spite of the lawsuit, Murphy had previously lauded the order's effect on gun retailers, arguing during a press briefing that "a safer society for my taste has fewer guns and not more guns."

"The guns that do exist are at the hands of the right people, particularly trained members of law enforcement," he added at the time. "Crime has been down and let's hope it stays down, but we're very comfortable where we landed on that."

Murphy's recent reversal on the forced closure of gun stores follows in the footsteps of a similar decision by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, who backed off his previous executive order after taking heat from Second Amendment supporters in his state.

Turkey's Halkbank pleads not guilty to US criminal charges

Turkey’s state-owned Halkbank on Tuesday pleaded not guilty to criminal charges in a federal court in Manhattan that it helped Iran evade US sanctions, in a case that has strained relations between the United States and Turkey.

The plea – to charges including conspiracy, bank fraud, and money laundering – was entered by the bank’s US lawyer at a hearing conducted by telephone conference because of the coronavirus pandemic.

US prosecutors have accused Halkbank of using money servicers and front companies in Iran, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates to evade sanctions through sham transactions in gold, food, and medicine.

The charges, announced last October, followed related charges brought by prosecutors against nine individuals since 2016.

They included former Halkbank executive Mehmet Hakan Atilla, who was convicted in the same federal court in Manhattan in January 2018 after another defendant, wealthy Turkish-Iranian gold trader Reza Zarrab pleaded guilty and testified against him.

Atilla returned to Turkey last year after leaving prison and became general manager of the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

Afghan Govt Announces Another Delay in Taliban Prisoner Release

First releases were scheduled for Tuesday, now won't happen

Over the past two weeks, one of the most hopeful signs on intra-Afghan talks was related to prisoner releases. The Taliban said they were told releases would come by the end of March, which is Tuesday. The Afghan government, however, now says no one will be released on Tuesday.

Afghan officials are calling this another “delay” to the prisoner release, though they aren’t saying anything about why this delay happened. It appears the government is angry that the Taliban rejected their peace negotiation team, and wants the Taliban’s own negotiators on hand to talk.

The Ghani negotiating team has questions surrounding it because Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah are both claiming the presidency, and it’s not clear which of the two, if either, can really negotiate with the Taliban right now.

Since the Taliban expect the talks to begin only after the prisoner releases, that may be putting the cart before the horse anyhow, as it’s likely to be many months before the releases have progressed to the point that talks could really begin.

Janssen Announces Collaboration with Bavarian Nordic to Develop Vaccine for Chronic Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Infections

New approach for early treatment and interception of HPV-induced cancers

RARITAN, NJ – December 18, 2015 – Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Janssen) announced today that the company has entered into a definitive collaboration and license agreement with Bavarian Nordic to leverage their MVA-BN® technology, jointly with Janssen’s own AdVac® technology, in the development and commercialization of a heterologous prime-boost vaccine for the treatment of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) chronic infections which can lead to cancer. Under this agreement, Janssen will conduct all clinical development and, subject to regulatory approval, will be responsible for registration, distribution and commercialization of the potential combination vaccine worldwide.

Despite a recent focus on the prevention of infection for certain HPV types, a large population remains at risk of HPV-related cancers.

Janssen will leverage the prime-boost approach, similar to that used in its Ebola vaccine regimen which is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials.

This approach has shown to induce a strong and longer-lasting immune response, demonstrated by both increased antibodies and T cell responses. The goal is to develop a therapeutic vaccine which aims to intercept HPV infection-related disease, particularly in women and men who are diagnosed with HPV early, by enhancing the ability of the immune system to treat chronic infections and prevent progression to cancer.

FBI’s Wiretap’s Go Beyond Trump Aide Surveillance, Inspector General Says

According to the Inspector General for the Department of Justice, in his review, the FBI has botched surveillance applications in its national-security investigations.

On Tuesday Inspector General Michael J. Horowitz says that he uncovered pervasive problems in F.B.I wiretap applications, according to a memo released on Tuesday detailing the review. The review came after his damning report last year about errors and omissions in applications to target former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

Here is one of the most damning statements from the Inspector General’s office.

“Nevertheless, we believe that a deficiency in the FBI’s efforts to support the factual statements in FISA applications through its Woods Procedures undermines the FBI’s ability to achieve its “scrupulously accurate” standard for FISA applications.”

“As you are aware, in December 2019 my office issued a report examining four Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) applications—an initial application and three renewal applications—targeting a U.S. Person and other aspects of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation (“December 2019 FISA Report”).1 As detailed in our report, among other things, we identified fundamental and serious errors in the agents’ conduct of the FBI’s factual accuracy review procedures (“Woods Procedures”) with regard to all four FISA applications. We found, for example, numerous instances where the Woods File did not include supporting documentation for factual assertions contained in the FISA applications, as required by FBI policy. Additionally, we determined that the Woods File did not contain, as also required by FBI policy, documentation from the Confidential Human Source’s (CHS) handling agent stating that the handling agent had reviewed the facts presented in the FISA application regarding the CHS’s reliability and background, and that the facts presented were accurate. We further found that the FBI had failed to follow its policies for re-verifying factual assertions made in the initial FISA application that were also included in the three FISA renewal applications.

McConnell: Impeachment distracted government from coronavirus threat

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday blamed the Democrats’ push to impeach President Trump in January for distracting the Trump administration from the threat posed by the coronavirus.

“It came up while we were tied down in the impeachment trial. And I think it diverted the attention of the government because everything every day was all about impeachment,” McConnell said in an interview on “The Hugh Hewitt Show.”

Trump has come under sharp criticism for the nation’s slow response to the spreading pandemic, especially for the shortage of coronavirus testing kits when the virus first spread to the United States.

More than 160,000 Americans have tested positive for COVID-19 and more than 3,000 people have died from the virus in the country.

McConnell told Hewitt that he has not heard any new reports about senators being diagnosed with coronavirus.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) missed a vote on the $2 trillion economic relief package after being diagnosed with COVID-19, and four other Republican senators placed themselves in quarantine last week out of caution for potential exposure.

China reported its first known death due to the coronavirus on Jan. 11, after researchers in the country discovered a new, unknown disease had infected dozens of people.

By Jan. 20, countries outside of China, including Japan and South Korea, reported the virus had spread, and on Jan. 23, Chinese authorities sealed off the city of Wuhan, where the virus first emerged.

The World Health Organization declared a global health emergency on Jan. 30, and on Jan. 31, the Trump administration blocked foreign nationals who had traveled to China in the previous two weeks from entering the United States. However, the immediate family members of U.S. citizens and permanent residents were allowed back to the U.S.

Trump has been criticized for not taking the virus seriously enough at first.

The president told CNBC’s Joe Kernen on Jan. 22 at the World Economic Forum in Davos: “It’s one person coming in from China. We have it under control. It’s going to be just fine.”

Trump also said he trusted information coming from the Chinese government, telling the CNBC host, “I have a great relationship with President Xi.”

At the time, few lawmakers were focused on the emerging threat.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who also appeared on “The Hugh Hewitt Show” Tuesday, said he started studying the potential impact of the virus in late January.

“The first time I recall talking about the China virus in the media was on your show, probably late in January, and I had started studying the problem in mid-January,” he said.

“I have to tell you that in mid-January and late-January, unfortunately, Washington, especially the Congress, was consumed with another matter — you may recall the partisan impeachment of the president,” Cotton added.

The Senate voted to acquit Trump of two articles of impeachment on Feb. 5 after a three-week trial and months of investigation by the House.

Not only was $1 million siphoned from the union’s pension fund, but $6 million remains unaccounted for, according to an internal probe obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

The Washington Free Beacon’s Yuichiro Kakutani reports:

Harold Schaitberger, the president of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), which represents more than 300,000 firefighters, is facing accusations of corruption and gross financial malpractice from his closest deputies. Edward Kelly, the general secretary-treasurer and the number two of the union, detailed the findings of his team’s audit in a March 20 internal memorandum.

According to the 105-page document, the audit has thus far found that Schaitberger and Thomas Miller—Kelly’s predecessor as the general secretary-treasurer—illegally earned millions of dollars from the union pension fund over the last two decades.

“The record keeping performed prior to my assuming office in September 2016 was so poor, one could argue it was designed that way,” Kelly wrote in the memorandum.

Kelly’s audit also found that the union misreported millions of dollars in union funds while diverting millions of dollars for a purpose unrelated to their original designation. As a result of this rampant financial malpractice, roughly $6 million in union funds remain unaccounted for, according to the memorandum.

Neither the union nor Schaitberger responded to requests for comment.

Schaitberger spearheaded the charge to get the 320,000 member organization to become the first national union to endorse Biden’s presidential campaign in April 2019. Despite its members’ history of tending to vote for Democrats, the 2016 presidential election saw their vote evenly split between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. After Schaitberger’s successful push to endorse, more than 18,000 members formally complained, demanding the IAFF retract its endorsement.

The results of the probe and calls for a more in-depth investigation threaten to divide the union further.

As of this article’s publication, the Biden campaign has not responded to requests for comment.

On March 31 evening, the Israeli Air Force conducted airstrikes on targets in the Syrian province of Homs. Israeli warplanes launched at least 10 missiles from Lebanese airspace at Syria’s Shayrat Airbase.
