Students Threatened With Police Action For Displaying Anti-Lockdown Signs in Windows

Students at Manchester Metropolitan University were threatened with police action if they didn’t remove signs complaining about draconian lockdown restrictions that were placed in windows at their halls of residence.

Students across the city have been placed under a new 2 week lockdown, meaning they are under de facto house arrest, cannot leave their homes and are forced to rely on food deliveries.

Some reacted to the restrictions by placing signs in their windows that said, “”Help us!” and “HMP MMU,” a reference to Her Majesty’s Prison.

“Mental health comes first – let us out,” another sign said.

In response to the signs, the university said it had been contacted by police, who would remove the signs if they were deemed to be in violation of the law.

Students described how the lockdown was being enforced by security guards posted at gates literally preventing people from leaving.

“There was a security guard that then just arrived at the gate of our accommodation and he wasn’t letting anybody leave, not really explaining what was going on,” said Dominic Waddell.

“A police van turned up and there were police outside the gate, quite a lot of them just walking around looking at everyone, especially because we didn’t know what was going on,” said Megan Tingey, adding that the situation was, “scary and confusing.”

As we highlighted last week, students at universities across the country have complained about being treated like prisoners, with attendees of Edinburgh University being forced to eat alone at exam-style desks as monitors patrol rooms making sure they don’t leave their tables.

Students at some universities are even being told that they won’t be able to leave at Christmas to see their families.

Security guards are also patrolling corridors at halls of residences listening for music and knocking on doors to make sure people aren’t having parties.

Despite coronavirus deaths and hospitalizations having virtually flatlined, huge areas of the UK have been placed under a second lockdown, with all pubs and restaurants being forced to close at 10pm and even singing and dancing being banned.

As we highlighted last week, COVID enforcer marshals are also roaming the streets peering into people’s letterboxes and windows to check if illegal gatherings are taking place.

1 In 3 California Restaurants Expect To Close Locations, Shut Down Permanently Due To COVID Rules

With several counties still not allowed to have indoor dining, many restaurants across Southern California and the state are not expected to survive the coronavirus shutdown.

Antonis Konnaris opened the doors of his Greek restaurant in 1995. Since March, his business has dropped by as much as 70 percent.

“It’s sad,” Konnaris said, weeping. “I have a family. I don’t know what else to do. Just cooking.

Engineering Contagion: UPMC, Corona-Thrax And “The Darkest Winter”

Soon after having been fired from his post as secretary of the treasury in December 2002, after a policy clash with the president, Paul O’Neill became a trustee of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Despite having just worked under and clashed with George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, it wasn’t until O’Neill began answering to UPMC CEO Jeffrey Romoff as a member of the Center’s board that he chose to publicly denounce a superior as “evil.”

“He wants to destroy competition. He wants to be the only game in town,” O’Neill would later state of Romoff, adding that “after 18 months I quit [the UPMC board] in disgust” due to Romoff’s “absolute control” over the board’s actions. O’Neill subsequently noted that UPMC “board members who have wealth of hundreds of millions of dollars are not willing to take this guy on.” When pressed by a local reporter, O’Neill further elaborated that he had been told by other board members that they were “afraid” of Romoff because Romoff might “harm them in some way.”

O’Neill’s criticisms of Romoff are hardly an outlier, as local community activists and even a state attorney generalhave noted that UPMC’s board lets Romoff do as he pleases. Jeffrey Romoff has ruled UPMC with an iron fist since his predecessor, Thomas Detre, had a heart attack in 1992. As a result of the Center’s massive wealth accumulation, at first spurred by his magic touch for receiving National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants, Detre was able to use the financial power afforded to him to consolidate control over enough of the University of Pittsburgh to create his “own personal fiefdom,” which is now the stand-alone corporation known as UPMC.

Not long after Romoff took over the Center’s reins, he made his intentions clear to faculty and staff, stating at one 1995 UPMC meeting that his “vision” for the future of American health care was “the conversion of health care from social good to a commodity.” Motivated by profit above all else, Romoff aggressively expanded UPMC, gobbling up community hospitals, surgery centers, and private practices to create a “health-care network” that has expanded throughout much of Pennsylvania and even abroad to other countries, including China. Under Romoff, UPMC has also expanded into the health-insurance business, with 40 percent of the medical claims it pays out going straight back into places of care that are owned by UPMC—meaning UPMC is essentially paying itself.

In addition, since UPMC is officially a “charitable nonprofit corporation,” it is exempt from property taxes and has special access to the tax-exempt municipal bond market. UPMC can also solicit tax-deductible grants from private individuals and organizations, as well as governments. These grants totaled over $1 billion dollars between 2005 and 2017.

Despite these perks being officially justified because of UPMC’s “charitable institution” status, the UPMC board, with Romoff at the top, have seen their own multimillion-dollar-per-year salaries continue to climb. Perhaps this perk also comes from UPMC being a nonprofit corporation, as there are no stockholders to whom Romoff and the board must explain their increasingly exorbitant salaries. For instance, Romoff made $8.97 million last year as UPMC’s CEO, a marked increase over the $6.12 million he had raked in the prior year.

LAPD cops use data-mining firm Palantir's controversial law enforcement tool to 'store personal information - including romances and jobs - of anyone who comes into contact with police' as they try to predict criminal behavior

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) cops have been trained to use data-mining firm Palantir's controversial law enforcement tool to list the names, addresses, phone numbers, license plates, friendships, romances and jobs of anyone who comes into contact with police - including their associates.

More than half of all LAPD cops - around 5,000 officers - have accounts with Palantir, one of the biggest surveillance companies in the world, which both firms claim helps the force keep the public safe on the city's streets.

However, newly released documents obtained by Buzzfeed News through a FOIA request reveal that the surveillance is far from limited to people arrested, convicted or suspected of criminal activity.

Training documents for the 'Intermediate Course' and 'Advanced Course' show how cops are taught to use the powerful law enforcement tool Palantir Gotham to collect and store detailed information on anyone at all they encounter, from witnesses or victims of crimes to someone simply living in the area a crime took place.

The system then indiscriminately stores intricate details such as tattoos, scars, romances and associates on people including those who are innocent and completely unrelated to any crime.

As well as being invasive, critics warn the system reinforces racism in law enforcement, with data suggesting when cops use it to predict future criminal activity, they over-target black and brown communities.

This comes at a time when protests are building nationwide demanding an end to police brutality and racism in the wake of multiple 'murders' of black men and women by white cops across America.

The newly obtained training documents reveal how granular the LAPD's data collection is on residents of the city.

They show how the intermediate and advanced eight-hour courses teach cops to search for people by name, race, gender, gang membership, tattoos, scars, friends or family.

The software can then pull up names, home addresses, email addresses, vehicles, warrants, mugshots, photos.

It can also be used to collect data and track associates such as friends, family members, partners, neighbors, and coworkers, as well as to track a vehicle's links to criminal activity.

Between 2012 and 2017, the system also involved sharing data with several other institutions including California police departments, sheriff's offices, airport police, universities and school districts, Buzzfeed reported.

This meant that the Los Angeles School Police Department, Compton Unified School District Police Department, El Camino College, Cal Poly University Police Department, and California State University all sent police data to the LAPD which was then loaded into the system.

The software maps relationships from person to person, person to car, person to home, or person to crime scene, and cops use this to create lists of people they predict will commit a crime.

In 2016 alone, LAPD cops used the vast amount of data taken from LA residents to run 60,000 searches for around 10,000 police cases.

Israel’s war industry embraces Emirates with open arms

Palestinians are calling for a boycott of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi.

Earlier this month, the newly established university – named after the crown prince of the United Arab Emirates – held a virtual signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement with Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science.

Collaboration between the two institutions will include student and staff exchanges, conferences, research and the establishment of a joint virtual institute for artificial intelligence.

Alon Chen, president of the Weizmann Institute, and Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, the Emirati technology minister and chair of the university’s board of trustees, took part in the ceremony.

The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) condemned this “normalizing” union.

Israeli academic institutions “play an important role in planning, implementing, justifying and reinforcing Israel’s ongoing military occupation and settler-colonial, apartheid regime against the Palestinian people,” PACBI stated.

The Weizmann Institute’s history of complicity is particularly grave.

Deep roots in war establishment

Formerly known as the Sieff Institute, it “officially joined” the ethnic-cleansing campaign led by David Ben-Gurion in February 1948, along with the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The Israeli institutions provided military research and “assistance with security services” to the Zionist war effort.

During the Nakba of 1948, some 800,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their homes and villages by Zionist paramilitary forces and were never permitted to return because they were not Jewish.

The Weizmann Institute was later renamed for Israel’s first president Chaim Weizmann, a leading figure in the Zionist movement.

One of the Weizmann Institute’s first researchers, Israel Dostrovsky, led the military research wing of the Haganah – the pre-state Zionist militia that carried out much of the ethnic cleansing.

The Weizmann Institute has undoubtedly been closely involved in Israel’s top secret nuclear weapons program, as well as research into chemical and biological weapons.

As it has from its earliest days, the Weizmann Institute still maintains close ties with Israel’s military and its biggest arms manufacturers including Israel Aerospace Industries and Elbit Systems.

Elbit and IAI are leading suppliers of weapons used in Israel’s attacks on Palestinians.

Elbit has supplied white phosphorus munitions and drones that have been used during Israel’s attacks on Palestinians and on Lebanon. It also manufactures internationally banned cluster munitions for the Israeli army.

Elbit markets its weapons as “battle-proven,” with the Israeli army’s successive attacks on civilians in Gaza as its showroom.

During their 2014 assault on Gaza, Israeli forces killed more than 2,200 Palestinians, including 550 children – an average of 11 children per day.

Hearing Reveals US Govt’s Invisible Hand in Protests Around the World

Trump admin cut funding to OTF, a non-profit that supports protesters in places like Hong Kong, Lebanon, and Iran

Last week, the House Foreign Affairs Committee grilled Michael Pack, who President Trump recently appointed to head the US government’s state propaganda arm, the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM).

Pack was appointed in June and started a big shakeup at the US state media outlets run by the USAGM, like Voice of America and Radio Free Asia. Pack fired senior staffers, pushed out management, and froze funding.

During last week’s hearing, Democrats and Republicans on the committee teamed up to attack Pack for his purges. But what seemed more important to Congress and former USAGM officials was Pack’s move to freeze funds to the Open Technology Fund (OTF). The OTF was formed in 2012 and operated as part of Radio Free Asia for seven years. In 2019, the OTF became an independent non-profit, although it is financed by US taxpayer dollars through the USAGM.

According to former USAGM officials and OTF board members, the OTF supports protesters in other nations across the world. “In many places around the globe, OTF quietly is providing support to protesters,” said Grant Turner, the former USAGM chief financial officer, who Pack removed in August. “So the Hong Kong protesters are protecting their identities from surveillance by OTF tools; protesters in Iran; we’ve seen it in Beirut,” Turner said.

Ambassador Karen Kornbluh, who sits on the board of the OTF, also testified and spoke of how the OTF helps protest movements. “OTF has a long history of supporting internet freedom efforts, and was poised to expand its efforts in Hong Kong,” Kornbluh said. “It was going to serve support for circumvention tools and expand support for digital training.”

Kornbluh explained that the USAGM froze OTF funds before China’s national security law for Hong Kong came into effect. “And then USAGM froze, and continues to withhold, its funding – and did that just weeks before the new security laws came into effect,” Kornbluh said. “So OTF hasn’t been able to support any of these efforts.”

The frozen Hong Kong funds were first reported by Time magazine in June. According to Time, Pack froze $2 million that would have “directly benefited the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong.” One project the OTF was working on in Hong Kong was a “cybersecurity incident response team” that would have analyzed Chinese surveillance techniques in Hong Kong. The team would have shared information with developers who would design apps for protesters to use. The freeze in funding made this project impossible to go through with.

Amazon Sidewalk to Expand “Smart Home” Capabilities Up to ½ Mile into Neighborhoods – Privacy Be Damned

All wireless “Smart” devices have the ability to collect data often without users knowledge or consent. They also emit harmful electromagnetic radiation which cause undesirable symptoms and illness in people and animals (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) AS WELL AS increase their cancer risk (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

For those who aren’t concerned about the radiation from these devices and wearables (see 1, 2,), privacy and security experts have been warning that these devices can be hacked and even set on fire. Of course, the data can be used in hurtful and creepy ways too (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).

Despite warnings and consequences, unnecessary and dangerous technology continues to be introduced anyway. Despite its potential for being hacked, Alexa has been installed in cars so drivers can get gas using voice command. Because drivers weren’t able to gas before Alexa???

Now Amazon wants to expand its “Smart Home” capabilities so the company can collect data on you and perhaps your neighbors as well. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time Amazon did that.

From CNET:

Amazon Sidewalk is coming to your neighborhood. Here’s what you should know

Coming soon to Echo speakers and all sorts of other devices, Amazon’s low-bandwidth IoT network wants your smart home to stretch beyond your Wi-Fi network.

Amazon has had its sights set on the smart home ever since Alexa came along — but now the online mega-retailer is thinking bigger, and envisioning entire smart neighborhoods. First announced in 2019, the effort is called Amazon Sidewalk, and it uses a small fraction of your home’s Wi-Fi bandwidth to pass wireless low-energy Bluetooth and 900MHz radio signals between compatible devices across far greater distances than Wi-Fi is capable of on its own — in some cases, as far as half a mile, Amazon says.

You’ll share that bandwidth with your neighbors, creating a sort of network of networks that any Sidewalk-compatible device can take advantage of. Along with making sure things like outdoor smart lights and smart garage door openers stay connected when your Wi-Fi can’t quite reach them, that’ll help things like Tile trackers stay in touch if you drop your wallet while you’re out on a walk, or if your dog hops the fence.

Maybe most noteworthy of all is that, for a lot of us, Amazon Sidewalk won’t require any new hardware. Instead, it’ll arrive as a free software update to the Echo speakers and Ring cameras people already have in their homes. That means that the infrastructure is already in place for Sidewalk to be a robust, large-scale network right at launch — and it also means that you’ll soon see it pop up as a new feature in your Alexa app (and yes, you’ll be able to turn it off).

Amazon didn’t have a whole lot to say about Sidewalk at its September products showcase, but it’s likely that we’ll hear a lot more about it in the weeks ahead, as Amazon draws closer to a launch. For now, here’s everything we know about it.

DISGUSTING! Joe Biden Calls Trump a “Racist” then Lectures Americans on How Insults are “Demeaning” in Same Answer (VIDEO)

In last night’s debate Chris Wallace asked President Trump about his executive orders against the very hateful white privilege indoctrination, something Chris Wallace obviously supports.

Joe Biden jumped in an immediately told President Trump, “You’re a racist.” Then Joe went on to say in the same answer how insults are demeaning.

Joe Biden went on to call the sitting president a killer, a liar, a “racist,” a “clown,” and told him to “shut up.”

This was true snapshot at what Joe Biden and Democrats think of President Trump and all of his supporters. Joe Biden and the Democrat party, the party of the KKK, believe ALL Trump voters are deplorable, irredeemable and racist. Democrats are willing to destroy the country with hateful “white privilege” trainings to prove their point

IDF closes fighter jet squadron, ending 67 years of operations

Move comes as part of military’s Momentum Plan, meant to free up resources for more advanced aircraft; troops to be moved to other units

The Israeli Air Force on Wednesday shuttered a squadron of fighter jets as part of the military’s Momentum Plan, in a bid to free up resources for more advanced aircraft going forward.

Earlier this year, IAF commander Maj. Gen. Amikam Norkin picked the 117th First Jet Squadron, which currently flies F-16 jets out of northern Israel’s Ramat David airbase, for closure, ending the outfit’s 67 years of operation through all of the country’s wars but its first.

“This is a historic day in the air force, which is closing one of the most active and operational squadrons in the force’s history today,” Norkin said at the closing ceremony.

“The ‘First Jet’ Squadron and its operations are an inseparable part of the history of the air force,” he said.

In February, with the release of details of the Momentum Plan, the military announced that it would be closing two air force squadrons, as well as an armored brigade.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the 117th Squadron continued training and conducting operations until “the day of its closure” on Wednesday.

The military added that all the soldiers and officers in the squadron will continue serving in the air force.

According to the military, one of the reasons to close the F-16 squadron was to free up resources for new fifth-generation planes, namely the F-35 stealth fighter jet, which Israel purchased from the United States.

The Israeli Air Force will continue to operate at least eight other F-16 squadrons.

The 117th Squadron was formed in 1953, taking part in every war in the country’s history since then, as well as a number of major operations, including the 1981 strike on Iraq’s nascent nuclear reactor, known as Operation Opera.

Initially, the unit flew the British-made Gloster Meteor — the Israeli military’s first jet aircraft — and then moved to operate the French Dassault Mirage III, until Israel received the F-16 in the late 1970s.

Amnesty International’s Troubling Collaboration with UK & US Intelligence

Some troubling connections contradict Amnesty’s image as a benevolent defender of human rights and reveal key figures at the organization during its early years to be less concerned with human dignity and more concerned with the dignity of the US and UK’s image in the world.

LONDON — Amnesty International, the eminent human-rights non-governmental organization, is widely known for its advocacy in that realm. It produces reports critical of the Israeli occupation in Palestine and the Saudi-led war on Yemen. But it also publishes a steady flow of indictments against countries that don’t play ball with Washington — countries like Iran, China, Venezuela, Nicaragua, North Korea and more. Those reports amplify the drumbeat for a “humanitarian” intervention in those nations.

Amnesty’s stellar image as a global defender of human rights runs counter to its early days when the British Foreign Office was believed to be censoring reports critical of the British empire. Peter Benenson, the co-founder of Amnesty, had deep ties to the British Foreign Office and Colonial Office while another co-founder, Luis Kutner, informed the FBI of a gun cache at Black Panther leader Fred Hampton’s home weeks before he was killed by the Bureau in a gun raid.

Macron: It was a mistake not to establish European dialogue with Russia over disarmament

The French president believes that Europe should build its own dialogue with Moscow instead of delegating the issue to NATO

RIGA, September 30. /TASS/. It was a mistake that there was no dialogue between Europe and Russia over arms reductions, French President Emmanuel Macron said at a joint news conference with Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins on Wednesday.

"The disarmament agreements were concluded between the United States and Russia and we were not even a party to them, but in the recent 15 years those agreements have been scrapped," he said. "We are no longer protected. In particular, it concerns the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty that the United States quitted. And what is instead? Nothing."

According to Macron, "It could have happened as Europe failed to build dialogue with Russia over the Europe-related disarmament issues." "It was a mistake," he believes.

"We will never resolve the issues of disarmament and protection of Europe without discussing them with Russia," Macron stressed.

The French president concluded that Europe should build its own dialogue with Moscow instead of delegating the issue to NATO.

INF Treaty

On August 2, 2019 the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty was terminated at the US initiative. Washington argued that Russia had refused to meet the US ultimatum-like demand for eliminating new generation cruise missiles 9M729, which the United States and its NATO allies see as a violation of the treaty. Moscow dismissed these charges, saying that the technical parameters of the 9M729 missile were within the INF Treaty’s permissible parameters and put forward its own counterclaims over Washington’s non-compliance, for instance, referring to the US missile defense system in Europe.

The US warned back on February 2, 2019 about its intention to quit the treaty. It said it could do so in accordance with Article 15 of the treaty unless Russia met its demands, which first and foremost included the destruction of 9M729 missiles. Moscow rejected Washington’s steps as absolutely unacceptable ultimatums.

John Bolton, who was the US national security adviser at the time, admitted later that Washington’s decision-making had been influenced also by the factor that China was not a party to the INF Treaty.

In September 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the leaders of several countries, including NATO member states, with a proposal for imposing a moratorium on the deployment of intermediate-range and shorter-range missiles in Europe and other regions. The United States consequently turned this initiative down.

Compton shooting: Charges filed in ambush of 2 deputies earlier this month

The deputies are expected to make a full recovery

Deonte Lee Murray, the man accused in the ambush shooting of two Los Angeles County deputies in Compton earlier this month, has been charged with attempted murder, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Murray, 36, was taken into custody after a lengthy standoff three days after the deputies were shot, though his arrest was unrelated to the attack on the deputies, Sheriff Alex Villanueva initially said.

The deputies, a 31-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, were shot in the face and head while sitting in their patrol car near the Compton metro station. Both underwent surgery and have been released from the hospital. They are expected to make a full recovery.

At the time of his arrest, Murray, who has suspected gang ties, was charged with one felony count each of carjacking, second-degree robbery, and assault with a semiautomatic firearm - personal use of a firearm. The charges also included allegations of association with a criminal street gang, discharging a rifle inflicting great bodily injury, and personal use of an AR-15.

The deputy shooting was captured on surveillance video and shows a person in dark clothes walking up the pathway near Compton's Blue Line station and approaching the parked patrol car from behind. The person in the video is seen coming closer to the car and then can be seen facing the passenger door of the patrol SUV. Then, just inches from the window, the person is caught on video raising a gun, opening fire, and running back the way he came.

Soon thereafter, the passenger door of the SUV opens and a deputy stumbles out, with a hand on their head. The driver's side door then opens. One of the wounded deputies says, "Compton Pax, deputies down."

The female deputy then managed to help her partner out of the cruiser and hide behind a concrete pillar for safety. She applied a tourniquet to her partner's arm to help stop the bleeding.

"They became victims of a violent crime for one reason - they were doing their job and they were wearing a badge," LA County District Attorney Jackie Lacey said Wednesday. Lacey added that the charges could be amended if there is evidence that the attack was done to benefit a gang.

Villanueva believes the hatred toward police officers is growing and that there are "people who have such deep-seated hatred against law enforcement that they're just willing to kill anybody unprovoked."

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has reportedly donated $50,000 to each of the Compton deputies.

House GOP Calls for Moving Vital Industries From China to America

Republicans look to shepherd supply chain repatriation over finish line

House Republicans are pushing to seal the deal on a host of policies to withdraw vital American industries from China in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The GOP-chartered House China Task Force issued a report on Wednesday that calls in part for Congress to enact the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act's bevy of policies. Those policies, many of which have already passed the House, aim at reducing U.S. supply chain dependency on the Chinese Communist regime, which the report labeled a risk to American safety and prosperity.

"The next step is to get this NDAA, to get this defense bill—we sadly kicked the can on that to December—to get that over the finish line," Rep. Michael Waltz (R., Fla.), who helped draft the report, told the Washington Free Beacon. "I think it has a number of very good provisions in there. I think that's the most immediate legislative vehicle."

Republicans have been pushing for supply chain repatriation since late March, when coronavirus-induced hoarding in China contributed to the United States' struggle to provide adequate medical materiel to front-line doctors. The China Task Force's recommendations signal that Republicans and some Democrats are still eager to pass reshoring measures through the act and other legislation in the next session.

The Chinese National Development and Reform Commission's decision to unilaterally seize control of medical manufacturing and logistics "down to the factory level" made the need for supply chain repatriation clear, the report argues. The move allowed China to quintuple its production of protective masks, but also prohibited foreign companies from taking their medical products out of China—a major threat to western countries dependent on Chinese production to secure public health.

The task force report calls for legal changes to increase domestic production of medical goods and reduce dependency on China, including the identification of "drugs, biologics, vaccines, and critical medical equipment" as part of the United States' national security strategy. Another proposal would create federal incentives for companies to produce drugs' active ingredients in the United States—a major concern when China currently makes an estimated 40 percent of those ingredients.

The coronavirus crisis served as a "wake-up call" as to the risks of off-shoring medical supplies, Waltz argued.

This is the Death Cult the FBI Says is Spreading Among Drug Cartels

The drug war has been going on for so long that the inward, secret lives of narcotics traffickers are beginning to take on a life all of their own, separate from the national borders we know as their homes. The traffickers have their own rituals, coded languages, technology. And now, even a secret religion has sprung up around their lives.

It’s called the cult of Santa Muerte — “Holy Death” — and it’s more intense and deadly than anything that came before it.

The worshippers of Santa Muerte are primarily disenfranchised, poor Mexicans who turn to the cartels as a means of employment but soon begin the same cycle of murder and torture as those who came before them. The activities they’re forced to conduct aren’t accepted by pure Catholicism, so they turn elsewhere for comfort.

Santa Muerte has been developing as a belief system for over 50 years or more. According to the FBI, “The Santa Muerte cult could best be described as [following] a set of ritual practices offered on behalf of a supernatural personification of death […] she is comparable in theology to supernatural beings or archangels.” Unlike Death or the Virgin of Guadalupe, as she is often represented, the scales she holds don’t actually work — a reflection of her amoral nature. Since many narco foot soldiers will end up dying a brutal death, the appeal of worshipping a death-like figure is obvious. In the meantime, Santa Muerte advocates are enjoying the world’s earthly pleasures.

While the FBI stops short of calling the worship of Santa Muerte a full-blown religion, it does have its own belief system, as well as priests, temples, and shrines, along with all the rituals associated with religion — including ritual killings.

Border agents and local police have been thoroughly trained on the ins and outs of the religion and its followers. Luckily very few have been seen on the U.S.-side of the border.

Bombardier E-11A is the military variant of the civil Bombardier BD-700 Global Express for use as overhead communications-relay platform in southwest Asia. The BD-700 was selected due to its high service ceiling, up to 51,000 ft and up to 12 hours flight duration. Initially aircraft was designated as RC-700 under the reconnaissance classification but later was re-designated as the E-11A under the special electronics installations category. The E-11A is a U.S. Air Force aircraft that provides unparalleled communications capabilities to forces on the ground and aircraft in the air. Commonly known as Battlefield Airborne Communications Node, or BACN, this aircraft extends the range of communications channels and enables better communication among units. This element is essential where the terrain may disrupt communications channels and it enables ground forces to know what is around them when something is not in their line of sight.

The Air Force’s New Jolly Green II Undergoes Weapons Testing

The Air Force is in the process of replacing their 80s era Sikorsky HH-60J Pave Hawk with the new HH-60W Jolly Green II.

According to Military.com, the Jolly Green II aircraft will have larger fuel tanks, upgraded avionics, navigation, and communication systems, along with new software, armor, and modern-day defensive measures. The Jolly Green II is based on the UH-60M Black Hawk but it is built for special Air Force missions.

This new helicopter was given the name of Jolly Green II, based on the “Jolly Green” nickname that the Air Force HH-3E helicopter earned in Vietnam. During Vietnam, the HH-3E Jolly Greens participated in many CSAR missions, rescuing downed pilots.

Air Force Secretary Barbara Barrett said, “Reviving the Jolly Green name honors our combat search and rescue crews past and present. In the hands of our airmen, the HH-60W ensures the rescue community can perform their duties better than ever.”

According to the Air Force, the Jolly Green II’s missions will include “civil search and rescue, medical evacuation, disaster response, humanitarian assistance, security cooperation/aviation advisory, NASA space flight and support and CSAR command and control.”

For years, Air Force helicopters have filled the role of Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) and to this day this mission is still at the heart of these Air Force helicopter units.

Convicted ISIS Terrorist Out To Behead Pamela Geller, ‘Kill Boys In Blue’ Is Resentenced

BOSTON – An Everett man was re-sentenced yesterday to 30 years in prison for conspiring to murder U.S. citizens, including police officers, on behalf of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

David Daoud Wright, a/k/a Dawud Sharif Abdul Khaliq, a/k/a Dawud Sharif Abdul Khaliq, 31, of Everett, Mass., was re-sentenced by U.S. Senior District Court Judge Douglas P. Woodlock to 30 years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release. In December 2017, Wright was sentenced to 28 years in prison after a federal jury convicted him of conspiracy to provide material support to ISIS, conspiracy to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries, conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice.

“Mr. Wright is a homegrown terrorist who plotted to kill innocent Americans on behalf of ISIS, including specifically targeting police officers,” said United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling. “He radicalized himself and others, pledged allegiance to a terrorist organization, and conspired with his now-deceased uncle to kill police officers with a combat knife. This case is a reminder of the persistent terrorism threat to our citizens and law enforcement officers.”

“ISIS soldier David Wright betrayed his country and forfeited his freedom when he conspired with others to attack and murder innocent civilians and police officers in support of a sworn, barbaric enemy of the United States. This sentence ensures they remain worlds apart,” said Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Boston Division. “Identifying and disrupting terrorist plots, both foreign and domestic, is the FBI’s top priority, and the round-the-clock teamwork of our partners within our Massachusetts Joint Terrorism Task Force saved innocent lives, and kept Wright’s endgame of martyrdom out of reach.”

Beginning in at least February 2015, Wright began discussing ISIS’ call to kill non-believers in the United States with his uncle, Usaamah Abdullah Rahim, and co-defendant Nicholas Alexander Rovinski. Specifically, Wright created a “martyrdom” operation cell in Massachusetts. In April 2015, Wright created a Twitter page for the “Lions of America” and published a document entitled, Internal Conquest, on the internet in which Wright called on Muslims living in the United States to kill their fellow citizens.

Wright also plotted with Rahim and Rovinski to behead U.S. citizens at the direction of ISIS, and identified a New York woman, (conservative blogger) Pam Geller, as the first beheading target. Rahim purchased three knives for this plot. In addition, Wright’s ISIS cell was in direct communication with ISIS recruiter and attack facilitator, Junaid Hussain, who provided Rahim with an encrypted document containing details about the intended victim. In August 2015, Hussain was killed in an airstrike in Raqqah, Syria.

In preparation for their attack, Wright conducted extensive research on weapons, knives, machetes, bombing making components and methods to subdue their victims. Wright also conducted research on “what tranquilizer put humans to sleep instantly” and “how to start a secret militia in the United States.”

Europe’s Cocaine, Africa’s Trouble

Key Judgements

While networks operate across the entire West Africa, Guinea Bissau represents the regional hub and transit zone for drug exports shipped from Latin America to Europe. As part of this network, West Africa suffers the most.

There are currently 12 countries in Africa experiencing armed conflict which led to the displacement of 25 million people. They are particularly vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation. Most African victims are trafficked into forced labor, often in fields such as agriculture, domestic service, and manufacturing.

Amid UNICEF programs and ECOWAS strategies implemented in the region, child trafficking is still very common in countries like Nigeria, Benin, Togo or Burkina Faso. More than 50 percent of trafficking victims in West Africa are children.

Reconstructed Scenario

Drug and human trafficking represent major security issue concerning the West African states. Although organised crime reaches high levels in the region for around 2 decades now, more recently drug exports broke the record with 1.6 tons of cocaine being seized in Guinea Bissau in September 2019. At the same time, human trafficking in West Africa involves mainly children and women and 99% of victims detected in West Africa are trafficked within their own country or region.

Cocaine and methamphetamine count for most of the profits made through drug trafficking in West Africa. However, cocaine is being sold in record quantities with at least 50 tons coming from South America. Apart from these two, a new product is becoming more and more popular on the African drug markets: opioids.Large quantities of tramadol were collected by local police forces and Interpol in Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea Conakry, Niger, Nigeria, and Togo between September 2018 and May 2019. According to United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), opioids are mainly consumed in Nigeria, where around 14% of the population abuses drugs (more than twice the global average).

Suga to take up Abe's Indo-Pacific mantle with ASEAN tour

Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is considering visits to Vietnam and Indonesia in mid-October, Nikkei has learned, in a bid to demonstrate his commitment to predecessor Shinzo Abe's push for a "free and open Indo-Pacific." It will be Suga's first overseas visits since taking office. The two countries are first on Suga's travel itinerary, which is being planned now that the coronavirus outbreak has somewhat eased in the region compared with the U.S. and Europe. The plans are still subject to change depending on the status of the contagion. Vietnam and Indonesia were also the first countries Abe visited when he began his second stint as prime minister in 2012. They play a central role within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and their cooperation will be crucial amid China's maritime incursions in the South China Sea. "I will pursue diplomatic policies based on a functional Japan-U.S. alliance," Suga said in his inaugural news conference on Sept. 16. To counter Beijing's expansionism in the East and South China seas, Japan and the U.S. have been pushing for a free and open Indo-Pacific, promoting democratic values in the region through greater economic and security cooperation. ASEAN is an important part of this initiative, considering the 10 member countries are located on a major sea lane that connects the Middle East and East Asia.

Indonesia was the main driver for ASEAN's outlook on the Indo-Pacific issued in June 2019, in which the bloc vowed to play a "central and strategic role" in the region. Meanwhile, Vietnam chairs ASEAN this year, and has faced pressure from China in the South China Sea. "Suga is likely trying to strike a balance by choosing to go to Vietnam, which faces tensions with China, and Indonesia, which places a heavy importance on China ties," said Keio University professor Yuichi Hosoya. Suga is slated to speak with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Indonesian President Joko Widodo. The Japanese prime minister seeks to coordinate efforts with Vietnam and Indonesia regarding the South China Sea, as U.S.-China military and economic tensions continue to heat up. ASEAN members are wary the dispute could escalate local conflicts.

Japan will likely try to appeal to ASEAN partners about securing regional stability in a bid to curb China's growing regional ambitions. In addition to China, the leaders are expected to discuss a plan for lifting travel restrictions imposed over the coronavirus pandemic. Resuming international travel with countries that have the outbreak under control will be a boon to the Japanese economy. Japan is already in talks with Vietnam, whose new daily cases are in the single digits, according to Johns Hopkins University, about easing restrictions on business travel between the countries, both of which have already reopened borders to expatriates. Indonesia is still logging about 4,000 new cases a day. But it is the most populated country in ASEAN and has significant economic potential. "Many Japanese corporations have set up shop in Indonesia, first largely in the auto industry but now also in retail, wholesale and infrastructure," said Kunihiko Shinoda, professor at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies.

Vietnam and Indonesia are also players in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership trade pact between ASEAN, Japan, China and others, which its members hope to sign by the end of the year.

US Embassy Employee Dies in Hospital After Being Beaten up in Kiev, Police Say

A woman with a head injury has been found in a forested area near the railway tracks in the Shevchenko district of the Ukrainian capital, police said.

A female employee at the US Embassy was beaten up in Kiev and died in hospital, the press service of Kiev's Department of the National Police of Ukraine said on 30 September.

"The unconscious woman was taken to hospital, where she later died. The ID of a US Embassy employee was found among her personal belongings", the police said.

Law enforcement officers are establishing the circumstances of the incident, according to the press service.

The police said that they have started searching for a possible attacker, who is allegedly a tall man in his thirties or forties.

The US Embassy has not commented on the matter yet.

There are approximately 181 Americans and more than 560 Ukrainians in the staff at the embassy. The current chief of mission, as chargé d'affaires ad interim, is Kristina Kvien.

Europe-wide Operation Nabs 166 Crime Suspects from South-East Europe

More than 8,800 law enforcement officers across Europe arrested 166 people in a joint operation against organized and serious international crime originating from South-East Europe (SEE), Europol said in a statement on Wednesday.

Officers from 34 countries, including European agencies: Europol, Eurojust and Frontex, as well as international and institutional partners such as Interpol, UNODC, PCC-SEE, CCWP and PA/2019, joined forces during the four-day operation to combat illegal immigration and the trafficking of firearms and drugs.

The operation was brought together by EU members Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and non-EU member states Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Ukraine, United States.

“During the span of the action week, more than 390,000 individuals and 44,000 vehicles were checked at cross border locations and in suspected hotspots for criminal trafficking,” read the statement.

Such enhanced controls and intensified surveillance have led to the arrests in several European countries.

Police arrested 17 people for firearms trafficking or illegal possession of firearms; 73 for migrant smuggling or illegal immigration; 37 for drug trafficking; seven for firearms and drug trafficking; 12 for document fraud; one based on an international arrest warrant and 19 for crimes not related to the joint operation.

During the operation, police also seized “51 weapons of different types and 47 kilograms of a variety of drugs,” according to Europol.

“Criminals from the South-East Europe region are increasingly expanding their network of influence,” Jari Liukku, the Head of Europol’s Serious Organized Crime Centre, said.

He added that Europol is committed to “working closely with this region and supporting an international coordinated and mutually supportive approach for tackling serious and organized crime.”

Pakistan Arrests Opposition Leader over Money Laundering

Pakistani authorities on Monday arrested the leader of the country’s opposition on charges of corruption, prompting hundreds of his supporters to protest against the latest arrest of a top opponent by the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Shehbaz Sharif, 69, was arrested in the eastern city of Lahore when the court rejected his bail plea in a money-laundering case. He has denied the allegations against him and claimed that the assets being investigated belong to his relatives.

During the hearing, supporters of his PML-N party chanted slogans against Khan, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the country's powerful military.

It is the second time the NAB, the country’ anti-corruption watchdog, has ordered the arrest of Sharif, the younger brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Two years ago, the NAB accused him of having illegally awarded contracts for a social housing project when he was chief minister of the Punjab province.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was removed from his post in July 2017 by the country’s Supreme Court after the Panama Papers leak revealed that he owned luxury apartments in London.

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for graft but was granted bail on medical grounds last year. He is currently living in Britain, where he is receiving medical treatment.

Khan’s government is pushing for the ex-PM’s return to Pakistan so that he may continue serving his jail sentence.

Nawaz Sharif commented on his brother’s arrest on Twitter, calling the move a disgraceful tactic that “will not make us bow down."

The younger Sharif is yet another opposition politician who was arrested over graft by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) before a formal case was launched.

NAB’s pre-arrest powers have been repeatedly criticised by the opposition, the Supreme Court and Human Rights Watch.

German Government Reportedly Decides to Tighten Screws on Huawei Amid Push From US

The development comes as media reports say the Trump administration is pressuring Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel to bar Huawei from developing the country’s 5G network. The Trump administration has long maintained that the Chinese tech giant poses a threat to the national security of the US and its allies.

The German government has reached an agreement on an IT security law that will tighten the screws on the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, Reuters reported, citing unnamed government sources. According to them, the new agreement stops short of banning the company from developing the country’s 5G network, but it raises the bar, making it very hard for Huawei’s candidacy to be approved.

Sources told Reuters that the deal requires the country’s cybersecurity watchdog and intelligence services to assess whether a vendor is trustworthy, as well as extends the scrutiny of a vendor’s technology, such as the radio access network (RAN), which is used to power 5G services.

The spokesman for Chancellor Angela Merkel declined to comment on whether the standards would apply to all vendors. The Interior and Economy Ministries said the discussion on the ongoing legislation is continuing.

"We hope that cabinet can adopt this in October, or at the least in November", one coalition source told Reuters.

It is unclear how the situation will develop further, because Germany’s leading mobile network operator Deutsche Telekom’s 5G network, which uses Huawei equipment, is set to be completed by the end of the year, when the legislation may be passed into law.

The country’s other mobile network operators, which are also clients of Huawei, have previously warned that replacing the company’s equipment will be costly.

Sitting on Two Chairs

Germany is one of the last targets in the Trump administration’s campaign against Huawei. The Republican president has steered the United States on a confrontational course with China ever since he entered the Oval office. The Trump administration claims that Huawei, the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile telecommunications equipment, poses a threat to the national security of the United States and its allies because it spies on its customers at the behest of the Chinese government, a claim that Huawei and Beijing deny.

Following pressure from Washington, one by one US allies have refused or voiced unwillingness to do business with Huawei. Experts say that Merkel and her government wanted to find a compromise that would satisfy both the Trump administration and Huawei. However, government sources who spoke to Reuters said that although the new strategy stops short of banning Huawei, it will eventually smother the Chinese giant.

"The final outcome is the same", a security official told Reuters.

Turkey’s Foreign Policy During The Erdogan Era

Turkey’s foreign policy since the Justice and Development Party (AKP) led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan assumed power in 2002 has undergone several major and abrupt changes over time, partly due to changes in regional and global geopolitical developments and partly due to domestic factors and perceptions of Turkey’s interests and how they can best be achieved at any given moment.

Introduction

After being on the losing side in World War I the Ottoman Empire was unscrupulously carved up by the victors of World War I, with many areas previously under the control of the Ottoman Empire being invaded and occupied by British and French armed forces, often acting with the assistance of local proxy militias. As in Africa and other regions, the British and French subsequently decided the location of many of the current borders based on their own imperial ambitions, resulting in numerous disputed areas. The Encyclopedia Britannica states of the Treaty of Lausanne of 1923:

The treaty recognized the boundaries of the modern state of Turkey. Turkey made no claim to its former Arab provinces and recognized British possession of Cyprus and Italian possession of the Dodecanese. The Allies [i.e., Britain and France] dropped their demands of autonomy for Turkish Kurdistan and Turkish cession of territory to Armenia, abandoned claims to spheres of influence in Turkey, and imposed no controls over Turkey’s finances or armed forces. The Turkish straits between the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea were declared open to all shipping. LINK

The Post World War II – Cold War Period

Turkey remained neutral during World War II and afterwards allied with ‘the West’, joining NATO in the early 1950s. In accordance with its strong pro-West alignment, Turkey was the first majority Muslim State to recognize Israel with which it also had close military and intelligence links – including joint military training exercises in Turkey involving Israeli aircraft – until relations began to deteriorate during the Erdogan presidency, particularly after around 2009 as Turkey sought to establish itself as a leader of the Muslim world (while Erdogan was still prime minster). They further worsened following the Israeli interception and commando attack on the 2010 Gaza Freedom Flotilla during which the Israeli commandos killed ten unarmed people, most of whom were Turkish citizens.

Although Turkey was a staunch NATO ally (which included embedded ‘Deep State’ covert military and intelligence ties related to the Gladio stay-behind forces), during the 1990s it began to adopt a more independent foreign policy and refused permission for NATO (US) military assets stationed at the Incirlik Air Base to be used against Iraq during the second attack against Iraq in 2003.

The summary of Turkey’s foreign policy since World War II by Encyclopedia Britannica is worth quoting at length, as it describes many of the issues that remain at the centre of ongoing disputes and conflicts and demonstrates that, while Turkey’s foreign policy has become more aggressive and military-oriented under Erdogan and the AKP, there is also a substantial degree of continuity based on deeply ingrained perceptions and objectives among Turkey’s military leadership in particular but also among a substantial part of the wider population:

From the era of Atatürk and Turkey’s foundation, its foreign policy has been markedly oriented toward the West. Though it remained neutral throughout most of World War II, it sided with the Allied powers when it eventually entered the war. In the postwar era Turkey took on more active engagement with the West…

Cracks in Turkey’s relationship with the West emerged when the West failed to intervene in Cyprus after an attempted coup in 1974. Thereafter Turkey broadened its relations beyond the West, including a friendship agreement with the Soviet Union in 1978, while Cyprus and sovereignty disputes in Aegean Sea remained a major impediment to its relations with the West well into the 21st century…

Until the 1960s, Turkish foreign policy was wholly based on close relations with the West, particularly the friendship of the United States. Turkey sent troops to fight in the Korean War and joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO; 1952) and the Central Treaty Organization (1955). This Western-oriented policy derived from Turkey’s fear of its enormous northern neighbour, the Soviet Union, from its dependence on U.S. military and economic aid, and from its desire to be accepted as a secular, democratic, Western state. After 1960, however, this policy came into question as a consequence of East-West détente, the rise of economic and political cooperation in western Europe, and the growing economic importance of Middle Eastern countries…

AMNESIA?: James Comey has convenient & MAJOR memory lapses during testimony

Former FBI Director James Comey couldn’t remember much during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. He only knew what he read recently in news reports, he said. He didn’t answer questions directly.

The hearing with Comey was finally called by Chairman of the Committee Sen. Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina. He had been promising this testimony since before he took over as Chairman of the Committee.

The hearing, Graham has said, was to gain clarity of the FBI’s decision making in the early days of the probe. Moreover, he said they would be questioning the inaccuracies in the bureau’s FISA court filings, the secret court that grants or denies the bureau warrants to spy on Americans. Years of investigations by journalists, like me and others, along with intensive Congressional hearings and document disclosures by the intelligence community has painted a dangerous picture of malfeasance and corruption in America’s bureaucracy.

The weaponization of the nation’s most trusted agencies and the warrants used to monitor a political opponent by Democrats violated the very rights our founding fathers established when the American republic was founded.

What happened to Carter Page, a Trump campaign volunteer, and what happened to President Donald Trump should never happen again. The FBI appears to have relied on false Russian disinformation planted in an ex British spy’s debunked dossier. Further, evidence sheds light on the fact that senior members of the FBI actually knew this all along.

Yet, those who violated the law, like Comey and his many minions, have yet to pay a price for what they’ve done. They have yet to be held accountable by the Justice Department or anyone else for that matter. Instead, they thumb their noses at the American people and make millions on books, as contributors for cable news outlets and plan for a future they hope will end with former Vice President Joe Biden as President.

They continue to spew lies, as did Comey in today’s hearing, which in my opinion was nothing more than political theater. Although, thankfully some of the Senators for historical record asked the right questions.

The best outing of Comey’s memory failure came at the questioning by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas. It wasn’t surprising to watch Comey try to dodge Cruz’s well thought out questions.

Its Comey’s own seemingly arrogant manner that makes him so obvious. It’s how he and the rest of Washington’s bureaucratic elites see themselves. They are special. Beyond reproach, they think. In fact, it drips off their skin like a cool sweat on a humid day and glistens so everyone can see and smell it.

Fact Check: Biden Claims ‘No One Has Established’ There Is ‘Fraud Related to Mail-in Ballots’

CLAIM: Joe Biden (D) claimed that “no one has established” that there is fraud related to mail-in voting.

VERDICT: FALSE. There have been several well-documented examples of fraud and error in relation to vote-by-mail.

During a discussion on accepting the results of the election and the increase in mass vote-by-mail, Biden proclaimed that “no one has established, at all, that there is fraud related to mail-in ballots — that somehow it’s a fraudulent process.”

“It’s already been established,” Trump quipped, prompting Biden to say that Trump had “no idea what he’s talking about.”

Despite the former vice president’s claim, there are numerous instances of fraud and error related to vote-by-mail, as Breitbart News has extensively detailed over the months.

This month, for example, several mailed-in ballots in Wisconsin were discovered in a ditch alongside other mail. Recently in Virginia, 1,000 people who requested absentee ballots received two in the mail; and over the summer, a dead cat in Atlanta received a voter registration form by mail.

Also over the summer, two Paterson, New Jersey, councilmen and two men linked to a councilman’s campaign were charged with

“election fraud, mail-in voting fraud, and illegal possession of mail-in ballots,” as Breitbart News extensively detailed.

Additionally, a local TV station conducted an experiment over the summer, which further exposed the flaws in the vote-by-mail system. They sent 100 “‘mock ballots’ from across the city to a P.O. box set up specifically for the test.” The experiment found that just 97 percent of the ballots arrived, leaving three percent of voters effectively “disenfranchised by mail.”

Last month, a Democrat operative stated that anti-Trump United States Postal Service (USPS) workers will “sometimes help election fraudsters by throwing in the garbage mail-in ballots from Republican-heavy neighborhoods.”

Additionally:

New York City officials mailed absentee ballots with the incorrect names and addresses on the return envelopes.

Michigan clerks had to reject 10,694 primary ballots because the voters were deceased.

Hundreds of New Jersey Republicans received mail-in primary ballots featuring Democrat candidates.

A mail carrier in Virginia’s Pendleton County pleaded guilty to election fraud for “altering the party affiliation on absentee ballot request.”

Over 1,600 New Jersey primary ballots were discovered in a “mislabeled” bin after the election.

Palantir opens up 38% in New York debut, valuation at nearly $22 bln

Shares of Palantir Technologies Inc jumped 38% in their stock market debut on Wednesday, valuing the U.S. data analytics firm known for its work with the Central Intelligence Agency and other government bodies at nearly $22 billion.

Its shares traded at $10 apiece, compared with a reference price of $7.25 per share set by the New York Stock Exchange on Tuesday.

The listing is a landmark moment for Palantir and puts an end to years of speculation about when the company, co-founded by billionaire Peter Thiel in 2003, would ultimately go public and how much would it actually be worth.

ASSANGE HEARING DAY SEVENTEEN—US Intel Spying on Assange Detailed in Court, Including Plans to Kidnap or Poison Him

United States intelligence discussed plans to kidnap or poison Julian Assange, the court was told on Wednesday.

After the prosecution said it was unable to do checks on the two anonymous witnesses from the UC Global case in Spain, defense attorney Mark Summers read out the testimony in court a day earlier than had been expected.

The first witness described how he worked for David Morales, founder of UC Global, and was a 50 percent owner. The witness discussed how in July 2016 Morales insisted on going alone to a security conference in Las Vegas.

When he returned to the Spanish offices, Morales spoke of a “flashy” contract with the Sands casino, owned by billionaire Sheldon Adelson to provide security on Adelson’s yacht. The witness said it did not make sense because the yacht already had security.

Morales told the office that the company, which had only one contract, to provide security at Ecuador’s London embassy, was now “playing in the big leagues.” He said the firm had “switched over to the dark side” in working with his “American friends” who will “get us contracts all over the world.”

The witness said he learned that Morales had an “illegal contract to get sensitive information about Julian Assange and the president of Ecuador.”

The witness said that Morales’ contact in Las Vegas was Zohar Lahav, the Israeli-American vice president for executive protection at Las Vegas Sands. Lahav had “agreed to cooperate with U.S. intelligence to provide them with information about Assange,” anonymous witness one testified.

UC Global had been using security cameras at the embassy that did not provide audio and daily reports were written by UC Global staff from London. “The parallel agreement with the U.S. authorities required that these reports would be sent to ‘the dark side,'” as Morales called it.

Morales traveled twice a month to bring these reports to his “American friends” in the U.S. The witness said, “I asked who the American friends were and he said U.S. intelligence. When I asked him specifically who, he cut me off.”

Canola Oil: How Canada Convinced Us All To Eat Engine Lubricant

Canola oil started out as an engine lubricant and as fuel for generating light, but these days it can be found in kitchens all across the world.

So how did that transition happen?

Canola is a type of rapeseed which has for centuries been used to produce oil for things such as lamps or as a lubricant for industrial machines. You’ve probably driven past canola fields at some point – recognizable by their vivid yellow color.

It’s known to be one of the world’s oldest cultivated plants and was first recorded as being used for oil lamps in the 13th century in northern Europe.

In India, it was used up to 4,000 years ago, while there is evidence of use in China and Japan 2,000 years back.

Canada spotted a gap in the market for canola

During the Second World War, Canada produced huge amounts of rapeseed in order to lubricate aircraft, ship engines and other machines.

Then, when the war made it difficult to acquire European and Asian rapeseed oil, a critical shortage occurred. The Canadian government recognized the opportunity and set out to find other uses for the product they had become so good at producing.

However, early versions of edible Canola oil did not go down well. The challenge was to get rid of Erucic acid and glucosinolate, which tasted unpleasant and was potentially bad for one’s heart.

It took a several decades to achieve the desired product. Finally, two individuals at the University of Manitoba, Canada – Richard Downey and Baldur Stefansson – came up with the breakthrough to turn an ‘engine’ oil into a super cheap cooking oil.

Their product became known as ‘canola’ – which actually stands for Canadian oil, low acid.

Finnish politician opens up about police investigating her for defending biblical view of homosexuality

Päivi Räsänen is facing a number of police investigations for voicing her Bible-based beliefs publicly

Back in May, I wrote a column for First Things on the ongoing persecution of Finnish politician Päivi Räsänen, who has been consistently targeted over the past several years by LGBT activists for her outspoken advocacy of biblical sexual ethics. Since I interviewed her last, she has been interrogated by Finnish police yet again—simply for articulating her Christian beliefs in public.

Räsänen is not an insignificant figure in Finland. From 2004 to 2015, she served as chair for the Christian Democrats, and from June 2011 to May 2015 she was Minister for the Interior of Finland. Her husband is a Lutheran pastor, and her Christian views were well-known. Not until Section 10 of Finland’s Criminal Code dealing with hate speech was amended in 2011 to include “sexual orientation” did she run into any trouble. Suddenly, the expression of orthodox Christian views held by countless millions could possibly considered hate speech, and perhaps even prosecutable. That, at least, is what Räsänen’s persecutors are hoping.

This month, I spoke with her again about the details of her case. Anyone who values freedom of speech and freedom of religion should be paying close attention— Räsänen’s ordeal could easily happen in Canada or the United States someday soon.

LifeSite: What is the background of your case?

Päivi Räsänen: All in all, the Finnish Police Force is conducting four separate criminal investigations against me. In all of these cases, I am accused of criminal agitation against a minority group, primarily for quoting the Bible in a tweet, for a 16-year old pamphlet, and for speaking according my Christian faith in a radio and a television program.

The most recent case has to do with my views presented in one program of the YlePuhe [The Finnish Broadcasting Corporation Talk Show] series with host Ruben Stiller on the topic “What would Jesus think about homosexuals?” This was broadcast on 20 Dec. 2019. In the program, we discussed the Bible’s teaching on Jesus, creation of man, sin, the last judgement, and salvation. I emphasized that all men, regardless of their sexual orientation, are on the same line before God, all valuable, but all also sinful and in need of Jesus’ redemptive work in order to inherit eternal life. It is inconceivable for me that the program is suspected of being defamatory in any part.

An individual citizen X first made a criminal complaint and the police made a thorough decision that no pre-trial investigation will be commenced. The Prosecutor General, however, ordered also in this case, contrary to the decision of the police, a pre-trial investigation.

What are the latest developments in this case?

I was interrogated at the Main Police Station in Pasila, Helsinki at 10:00 AM on 25 August 2020 on suspicion of ethnic agitation against a group. I went gladly to discuss with the police about these issues once again, but I am concerned that the investigations and interrogations cause fear of limiting freedom of religion and free speech. I will give the concluding statement about this Stiller case to the police next month.

Why are investigations still ongoing after you have been cleared multiple times?

Two Pesticides Approved for Use in US Harmful to Bees

A previously banned insecticide, which was approved for agricultural use last year in the United States, is harmful for bees and other beneficial insects that are crucial for agriculture, and a second pesticide in widespread use also harms these insects. That is according to a new analysis from researchers at The University of Texas at Austin.

As the agricultural industry turns to new types of pesticides to protect crops, the biologists behind the recent large-scale meta-analysis warn that two of these — flupyradifurone (sold under the brand name Sivanto®) and the recently approved pesticide sulfoxaflor (sold under the name Transform® WG) — have harmful effects similar to a class of pesticides known as neonicotinoids, several of which were recently banned in the European Union and Canada. Neonicotinoid pesticides have been shown to be detrimental to honeybees and other beneficial insects.

Postdoctoral researcher Harry Siviter and Felicity Muth, assistant professor of integrative biology, reviewed 19 studies from the past five years on sulfoxaflor and flupyradifurone for the analysis, which appears today in the journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

“This research found that exposure to both of these insecticides at field-realistic levels significantly increased insect mortality and impaired insect health,” Siviter said.

In 2016, the Environmental Protection Agency banned the use of sulfoxaflor on crops that attract bees, such as cotton. In 2019, the agency approved its use in most circumstances, but it retained restrictions on applying the insecticide to blooming plants that may attract bees. The second insecticide involved in the study, flupyradifurone, is currently approved for agricultural use by the EPA without these restrictions.

“It is clear that these insecticides are harmful to bees,” Muth said. She noted that regulators made decisions before scientists had completed all of the research included in the meta-analysis.

In addition to harming honeybees, the insecticides also showed signs of harming other beneficial insects, such as wild bumblebees and lacewings, according to the research.

“We have around 4,000 species of native bees in North America, and they are crucial to our ecosystems,” Muth said. “They are the ones we need to be worried about. We need to assess the effects of insecticides on these native bees as part of the regulatory review process.”

In addition to increasing mortality in bees, the insecticides had some less than lethal effects, such as reducing reproductive ability and making pollinators less efficient foragers.

“So much of the regulatory process is focused on looking at toxicity, meaning how much of the insecticide you need to kill an insect,” Siviter said. “And what research has found over the last decade is that these insecticides can have a lot of sub-lethal effects on pollinators, influencing things like foraging ability or a bee’s ability to reproduce. These effects need to be considered in the regulatory process as well, because that can affect survival.”

https://lightofdaystories.com/2020/08/14/adoption-agency-staff-of-european-adoption-consultants-charged-by-federal-grand-jury-with-fraud-more/

A federal grand jury today charged Margaret Cole, Robin Langoria, and other employees of European Adoption Consultants (EAC) with fraud, money laundering and bribery in connections with adoptions from Uganda and Poland

>>they were sellings babies and they were not confirmed orphans

Grand jury documents were unsealed today in Ohio, where EAC was located. EAC had worked in adoptions in Bulgaria, China, Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Honduras, India, Panama, Tanzania, and Ukraine, in addition to Uganda and Poland.

https://russianadoptionagreement.wordpress.com/tag/secretary-of-state-clinton/

The truth of the matter is that the Russian Duma has deferred consideration of the agreement indefinitely. The agreement, now nearly a year old, will undoubtedly require modification. Secretary of State Clinton, featured prominently in EAC’s advertising, will not be Secretary of State even if Barack Obama is re-elected. Changes to the agreement would have to be negotiated with either a second Obama administration or an incoming Romney administration.

https://sidsyzygy.wordpress.com/2017/02/

Hillary and Haiti Human Trafficking, Is there a connection?

For years Hillary Clinton has been involved in activities that assist agencies involved in international adoptions, notably in Haiti and Russia. One large international consultant agency EAC, has a history of alleged illegal adoption practices that some claim, the Haitian government for instance, are actual kidnappings of children for possible exploitation. Today EAC offices were raised by the FBI.

FBI raids office of EAC on Feb 15, 2017;

“EAC failed to adequately supervise its providers in foreign countries (and) did not engage in practices preventing the sale, abduction, exploitation, or trafficking of children”

https://travel.state.gov/content/adoptionsabroad/en/hague-convention/agency-accreditation/agencies-denied-accreditation.html

EAC works with many agencies to facilitate finding children for adoption including New Life in Haiti, which is the group that Laura Silsby was working for as the organizer in Haiti, when Haitian authorities arrested her and 9 others. Haitian officials claimed they were kidnapping children after the earthquake there. Thanks to Huma Abedin, Cheryl Mills and SCOTUS Clinton, she was released from Haitian custody for time served, and returned to the US. She now works with Amber Alert and NCEMC. During Clinton’s tenure as SCOTUS her office accredited New Life and all the EAC agencies in Haiti.
