Portland denies protest permit for the Proud Boys, citing coronavirus risk

The City of Portland has denied a protest permit requested by the Proud Boys, saying their demonstration slated for Saturday would likely draw a crowd too large to comply with social distancing measures required under coronavirus restrictions.

While COVID-19 risk was cited as the reason for rejecting the permit, officials in the Oregon city — which has been plagued by left-wing protests that have often descended into violence for months — say the group isn't welcome regardless of the virus.

http://www.tathasta.com/2020/09/portland-denies-protest-permit-for.html

What are the details?

ABC News reported that Portland City Commissioner Amanda Fritz, who oversees the city's parks department which issues the permits, said in a statement explaining the Proud Boys' denial, "We must all do our part to fight the spread of COVID-19 in our community and keep ourselves and each other safe. Events like this are not welcome and are not allowed."

The Proud Boys state on their website that "all that is required to become a Proud Boy is that a man declare he is 'a Western chauvinist who refuses to apologize for creating the modern world,'" and lists a set of core values including "anti-racism," "anti-racial guilt," and "anti-political correctness."

According to The Daily Mail, the group's permit application described their rally as a march to "end domestic terrorism."

The outlet noted that the Proud Boys "have rallied in Portland several times in recent years and draw large crowds who show up to oppose their presence in the liberal city."

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler declared on Twitter, "On 9/26, alt-right groups and white nationalists are intent on coming into our community. These groups empower racism, intolerance and hate. Those are not Portland values, and they are not welcome. Hate has no home in Portland."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I've seen the claim repeatedly made here. Not sure if it's shills or anons who don't read carefully. I haven't read the case myself, but the article seems to break it down pretty well.

Barrett Did Not Affirm the Illinois Lockdown Order

What she actually did was to prioritize religious liberty.

By Scot S. Grant • September 25, 2020

Twitter is awash with false claims that Judge Amy Coney Barrett should not be nominated to the Supreme Court because she supported the draconian lockdown orders issued by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker. More mendaciously, some are claiming that she supported the Democrat Pritzker in excusing violent rioters from the lockdown requirements through which ordinary law abiding citizens are required to suffer.

This falsehood is magnified because it obscures what Barrett actually did in the case: she affirmed a hard-won exemption for religious worship from the generally odious lockdown.

The plaintiff in the case, the Illinois Republican Party, challenged only the worship exemption (not the lockdown generally), arguing that it was wrong to exempt only religious services from the lockdown. Why the GOP geniuses didn’t just challenge the constitutionality of subjecting their own political activities to the lockdown is anybody’s guess.

But given the argument the Republicans in fact made, Barrett concluded that religious worship occupies such an elevated status, even as compared to other First Amendment-protected rights, that it was not categorically illegal for Pritzker to limit the exemption to religious services.

Again, the Illinois Republican establishment was not challenging the lockdown order generally (or anything to do with failing to enforce the orders against rioters). Federal judges aren’t supposed to go beyond the issues raised by the parties in order to reach points that they would prefer to rule on. We call judges who engage in that practice by a familiar name: “activists.”

Those who are debating the merits of Judge Barrett’s nomination should at least get the facts straight about the cases she rules in, and what her legal rulings actually say. When you consider that she strongly endorsed a very protective view of religious liberty, Barrett may be exactly the one religious conservatives want on the Supreme Court to stand against waffling from Chief Justice John Roberts.

Confirmation hearing for Trump's Supreme Court pick to start Oct. 12

The Senate Judiciary Committee will start a four-day hearing for President Trump's Supreme Court nominee on Oct. 12, a person familiar with the schedule confirmed to The Hill.

The schedule will pave the way for Republicans to hold a vote on the nomination before the Nov. 3 election, setting a record for the closest date to a presidential election that a Supreme Court pick has been confirmed.

Though other nominees have been confirmed in a fewer number of days, they were farther away from the presidential election.

Chairman Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is expected to announce the committee's schedule later Saturday, once Trump formally names a replacement for the vacancy created by the death of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Trump is expected to nominate Judge Amy Coney Barrett, multiple sources confirmed to The Hill on Friday.

Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, Trump's first two Supreme Court nominees, both had nearly two months between their formal nominations and the start of their hearings.

Under the schedule by Graham, Barrett will have just over two weeks.

Graham pledged that he would hold the hearings early enough that it would allow for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to hold a vote on the Senate floor before Nov. 3. Graham's schedule would set up a floor vote for the final week of October.

"We've got the votes to confirm Justice Ginsburg's replacement before the election. We're going to move forward in the committee. We're going to report the nomination out of the committee to the floor of the United States Senate so we can vote before the election," Graham told Fox News.

Barrett's confirmation hearings are expected to follow a similar schedule to previous nominees meaning it will last a total of four days: one for opening statements, two for questions and then a final day for outside experts, the source confirmed.

The hearing will give Democrats their one public opportunity to grill her on a host of issues including healthcare and a looming Supreme Court case that could decide the fate of the Affordable Care Act.

'Permanent Coup' excerpt: How Biden pushed to quash investigation of company paying son $80k/month

"Out of a country of more than 40 million with a notoriously corrupt political class, the man Biden singled out happened to be investigating the company that was paying his son millions of dollars a year to do nothing." — From "The Permanent Coup," by Lee Smith.

Below follows part one of a two-part excerpt from Just the News contributor Lee Smith's book "The Permanent Coup: How Enemies Foreign and Domestic Targeted the American President.":

"Well, son of a bitch," said Joe Biden. "He got fired."

The audience laughed. Biden always knew how to make people laugh. He had the common touch. But these weren’t common people — it was an audience at the Council on Foreign Relations in Manhattan, and Biden was trying to impress them with a story about himself as a man who got things done. It is easier to get things done using the resources of the U.S. government.

Biden was talking about a trip he made to Kiev to speak with Ukrainian officials. "I was supposed to announce that there was another billion-dollar loan guarantee," Biden said. He said that he had a commitment from the Ukrainian president and prime minister to fire the Ukrainian prosecutor investigating the Ukrainian company that paid his son more than $80,000 a month. Unlike his father, who made many business trips to Kiev, Hunter never visited.

The Ukrainian heads of state and government tried to deflect Biden's demands. "We're not going to give you the billion dollars," Biden told the Ukrainians. "They said, 'You have no authority. You're not the president.'" Biden dared them to call Obama. "I said, call him." The Manhattan audience laughed again. "I looked at them and said, 'I'm leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you're not getting the money.' Well, son of a bitch. He got fired."

Biden had implicated the former president in an extortion scheme, in front of an audience. His statements were on videotape for anyone to view online. Of course no one was going to prosecute Obama or Biden. The making of foreign policy requires the use of various instruments to advance the national interest. Whether leveraging U.S. taxpayer money to get the vice president's son out of trouble served the national interest is another question.

Biden said he never asked Hunter about his business, but he should have warned him that doing business in Kiev was a bad idea, for him and for U.S. national security. Hunter's problems with money, women, and substance abuse would have flagged the attention of foreign intelligence services looking to influence the United States through the troubled son of the vice president. His job on the board of a company under investigation for corruption in a country known for corruption also would have made him and U.S. national security vulnerable. It was the duty of the chief executive to find out what, if anything, had happened.

CDC and Fauci’s NIAID Add Non-Pneumonia Deaths to US COVID-19 Totals Unlike Other Countries! — If These Deaths are Removed US Has 86,000 COVID-19 Deaths

For months doctors and investigative journalists have wondered why state coronavirus death counts include motorcycle accidents, homicides, birth defects, gunshot wounds and thousands of intentional injuries and poisonings to the US Coronavirus death totals.

It’s almost as if the medical elites are doing all they can to pad the coronavirus death counts?

In Singapore the medical experts follow the World Health Organization guidelines and DO NOT INCLUDE non-pneumonia coronavirus fatalities in their death counts.

If the US followed the same system as much of the world the total number of coronavirus deaths in the US would be 86,000 or something you’d see in a bad flu season.

In 2017-2018 the US had an intense flu season. 61,000 Americans died.

So, Fauci and Birx shut down the US economy and ruined the lives of millions of Americans for a disease that has a slightly higher death rate than a strong flu.

Todd Lowdon reported:

The Deccan Herald reported:

Singapore sticks rigidly to the WHO’s case definition for classifying Covid-19 deaths. It does not include non-pneumonia fatalities like those caused by blood or heart issues among Covid-19 patients in its official tally.

“I have no doubt that if the WHO revises its case definitions, some of the non-pneumonia deaths will be reclassified and the mortality rate will change,” said Paul Tambyah, president of the Asia Pacific Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infection, without specifying how much it would likely shift.

Colin Powell ally calls on House to begin ‘immediate’ impeachment hearings on Bill Barr

Appearing on MSNBC on Saturday Morning with Ali Velshi, former Colin Powell chief of staff Lawrence Wilkerson said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) should immediately begin impeachment hearings against Attorney General Bill Barr.

After discussing Donald Trump’s threat to not strep down peacefully should he lose in November, Wilkerson turned his ire on Barr who has been accused of acting like the president’s personal attorney.

Addressing Trump’s riling up his base with accusations of election theft, Wilkerson said, “This is a very, very dicey situation that he’s creating, and I don’t think he’s smart enough to realize that he is creating it to the extent that he is.”

Portland Police Confiscate Van Load of Shields, Weapons from Antifa Terrorists for Street Fight Action and to Beat Proud Boys

On Wednesday night antifa-BLM mob set off the Mother-of-All-Molotov Bombs in downtown Portland.

BLM-Antifa has been rioting in Portland for over 100 straight days.

The radical left has destroyed downtown Portland and what is not destroyed is boarded up.

This happens while clown show Mayor Ted Wheeler looks the other way.

But while Wheeler gives the BLM mob a pass he will not stand for “alt-right groups” protesting in his city.

The Proud Boys are planning to hold a rally in Portland this weekend.

Mayor Wheeler says, “Violence has no home in Portland.”

What a joke!

The Proud Boys are a racially diverse men’s club that promotes Western Civilization and opposes leftist political violence.

On Saturday they planned a rally in Portland, Oregon.

Crazy Mayor Wheeler said, “Violence has no home in Portland.”

Here is a video from the current Proud Boys rally in Portland.

NJ State Legislature Passes Ban On Paper Bags, Foam Food-Containers, And Plastic Straws

In addition to joining New York in some type of weird social experiment to see how high taxes can get before you drive all of your state's citizens elsewhere, New Jersey has also decided to now ban both paper and plastic bags in the state.

We guess the crippling effect of Covid 19 on local businesses wasn't enough - but now also seems like a great time to weigh them down with further regulations and higher costs.

The state's assembly and Senate passed a bill Thursday that bans LDPE plastic film bags, like the kind you get at the grocery store. It also bans the alternative - paper bags - at markets that are over 2,500 sq. feet in an attempt to get shoppers to bring their own bags. The same bill also bans polystyrene clamshell food containers and makes plastic straws only available "upon request" at restaurants, according to NorthJersey.com.

We're guessing there's going to be a lot of "requests".

The bill passed mostly on party lines after a similar bill introduced in early March had to be amended slightly. Opponents to the bill claim the obvious: that it will hurt all types of businesses that are going to be forced to find costly alternatives.

Despite the fact that environmental groups were mostly pushing for a ban on plastic bags, the state needed to ban paper bags as well to get "an influential trade group for supermarkets to support the bill" - due to the fact that supplying paper bags would cost significantly more.

The ban would take place 18 months after it is signed and any business violating the bill would get a warning upon first offense, followed by a $1,000 fine - and then a $5,000 fine for a third or subsequent offense.

Linda Doherty, president of the New Jersey Food Council, said: "The ban on paper bags is critically important to the success of this legislation. Without a ban, consumers will simply move to paper single-use bags and we will not address the underlying goal of reducing our reliance on single-use products."

Trump, Pence Pray With Thousands of Christians Gathered in D.C. for a Day of Repentance

On Saturday, in the throes of America’s turbulent 2020 election, thousands of Christians gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., for the inaugural National Day of Prayer and Return, a calling to repentance and prayer for healing.

Dueling rallies and worship services on either side of the Washington Monument attracted crowds of thousands. Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham held one rally with Vice President Mike Pence in front of the Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon, while Jonathan Chan and Kevin Jessup held “The Return” rally starting Friday night and continuing throughout Saturday in front of the U.S. Capitol building.

The rallies focused on a theme of repentance and prayer, rejecting sin and returning to God in turbulent times. Pence paraphrased 2 Chronicles 7:14, in which God promised King Solomon, “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

“We stand today on an ancient promise that Americans have claimed throughout our history that if His people who are called by his name will humble themselves and pray and turn, He will do like he’s always done — through much more challenging times in the life of this nation — He’ll hear from Heaven and he’ll heal this land, this one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” Pence declared.

The vice president declared that prayer is a “great American tradition,” citing Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and noting that “President Donald Trump has observed many times that America is a nation of believers, and you’ve proved that again today.”

Pence received loud cheers when he urged the audience to “pray for all of our justices on the Supreme Court, including the remarkable woman that the president will nominate to fill the seat on the Supreme Court later today.”

Trump’s statement

While the vice president spoke at Franklin Graham’s Prayer March 2020, leaders at The Return read remarks from President Donald Trump.

“On this inaugural National Day of Prayer and Return, the First Lady and I join millions of Christians here in the United States and around the world in prayer, as we turn our hearts to our Lord and Savior,” the president wrote in his statement.

“Our great Nation was founded by men and women of deep and abiding faith—a faith that has stood the test of time,” Trump added. He cited the Pilgrims’ faith in Providence. “Following in our ancestors’ footsteps we continue the ‘firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence’ that provides us enduring strength and reassurance in our times of need.”

“The trials and tribulations the American people have faced over the past several months have been great,” the president admitted. “Yet, as we have seen time and again, the resolve of our citizenry—fortified by our faith in God—has guided us through these hardships and helped to unite us as one Nation under God.”

“As we continue to combat the challenges ahead of us, we must remember the sage words of President George Washington during his first Presidential Address: ‘propitious smiles of heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained.’ As a country and a people, let us renew our commitment to these abiding and timeless principles,” the president added.

“Today, I am pleased to join my voice to yours in thanking God for blessing this nation with great power and responsibility. With reverence, humility, and thanksgiving, we beg for His continued guidance and protection,” Trump concluded.

Hundreds of US companies join Tesla to challenge Trump’s trade war tariffs – media

Lawsuits against the Trump administration have piled up over the last fortnight as some 3,500 American firms, including auto majors, retailers and pharmacies, were reported to challenge US tariffs on billions of Chinese goods.

The suits, filed by a wide range of companies in the US Court of International Trade in New York, seek to declare unlawful the latest rounds of levies on Chinese products imposed by Washington amid a wider trade dispute with Beijing. According to a Reuters report citing the filings, they name the US trade representative, Robert Lighthizer, and the Customs and Border Protection agency as defendants.

Some of the companies accuse the Trump administration of waging an “unbounded and unlimited trade war impacting billions of dollars in goods imported from the People's Republic of China by importers in the United States,” while others point at officials’ failure to comply with administrative procedures and impose tariffs within a required one-year period.
