"It's Not Clear If Beirut Port Explosion Was Accident Or Attack": Esper Tells FOX

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper appeared on FOX Saturday evening to explain the discrepancy between official Lebanese government statements that the Aug. 4 Beirut port explosion was an accident based on severe "negligence" and President Trump's initial statements in the aftermath that it was a "terrible attack".

Trump had raised eyebrows in saying at a White House press conference in the hours after the tragedy that left over 150 dead, while referencing his generals: "They seem to think it was an attack. It was a bomb of some kind."

In the days after both Trump and the Pentagon tried to walk back the statements, now with Esper in the weekend FOX interview saying that ultimately it was not clear whether the explosion was the result of “a deliberate attack or an accident”.

“The bottom line is that we still don’t know. You know, on the first day, as President Trump said, we thought it might have been an attack. Some of us expected it might be, for example, a shipment of weapons to Hezbollah that exploded. Maybe a manufacturing facility,” Esper said.

"Some of us speculated it could have been for an example a Hezbollah arms shipment that blew up, maybe a Hezbollah bomb-making facility," Esper told show host Jeanine Pirro.

“I have said before that it looks like an accident,” Esper continued. “It is unfortunate that some in the media have tried to create divisions within the administration, perhaps between me and the president and others.”

He concluded, “It is simply not true. I mean, the truth of the matter, it is a great tragedy. Under the leadership of the President, we will do our best to help the Lebanese people and do what is right.”

It's been since revealed that not only was an estimated 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate left unsecured for over 6 years in a warehouse at the port, but a large quantity of fireworks had been impounded in the same warehouse complex, near the highly explosive substance commonly used in fertilizer and manufactured explosives.

Johnson denied Blumenthal’s claims that he received documents relating to Joe Biden and his son's activities in Ukraine

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., is hitting back against a scathing op-ed in the Washington Post by Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., arguing that he never received documents relating to Joe Biden’s family nor did the CIA refuse to brief him on the matter.

In a lengthy thread on Twitter, Johnson denied Blumenthal’s claims that he received documents relating to Joe Biden and his son's activities in Ukraine from the son of a former Soviet intelligence agent and blasted the Connecticut Democrat for his “twisting of classified briefings and repeating of false news reports.”

“[Blumenthal’s] twisting of classified briefings and repeating of false news reports is beyond the pale,” Johnson tweeted. “It is a flat-out lie that I received the documents from Ukrainians that Democrats keep claiming. And they know it. It is unconscionable that Democrats and the press continue to report it.”

Johnson’s Twitter screed continued: “It is a flat-out lie that I asked for the CIA to brief our committee and that they refused. We’ve already been briefed repeatedly on these issues, Democrats simply didn’t like what they heard.”

In his op-ed on Friday, Blumenthal suggested that Johnson, the chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, may be using Russian disinformation to move ahead with his investigation into Biden’s family. Blumenthal cites a report from last week that says Johnson had been provided with tapes by Andrii Derkach, a Ukrainian lawmaker whose father was a KGB agent.

Derkach has been active in leveling unsubstantiated corruption allegations against Biden and his son Hunter, who used to sit on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian natural gas company. That effort has included publicizing leaked phone calls.

“Johnson’s actions are of such concern to the CIA, according to news reports, that the agency has refused to brief him,” Blumenthal wrote. “Think of it: Congress may become a forum for debunked conspiracy theories peddled by Kremlin proxies.”

Oxford-based genetic engineering firm Oxitec has announced a partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to develop a new strain of mosquitoes to combat the spread of malaria. However, while the Gates Foundation has focused on the Mosquito, there has been a covert engineering project to develop a mosquito that spreads vaccine instead of disease. This has already been achieved (see Science Magazine).

There are those who have simply embarked upon genetically altering the world in which we live without and consideration for the long-term consequences. Australia learned its lesson of what happens when you mess with Mother Nature. There were two species of beetles that were decimating sugar cane crops. The beetle’s larvae were eating the roots of the sugar cane and stunting, if not killing, the plants. The anticipated solution was to import the cane toad in 1935.

The scheme backfired completely became the cane toads cannot jump very high so they did not eat the beetles. Instead, the cane toads began going after everything else from insects, bird’s eggs and even native frogs. Since the toads are poisonous, they began to kill would-be predators. The toll on native species has been immense. Australia became invested with cane toads that kill everything other than the beetles.

All this genetic manipulation can have devastating long-term effects. As always, such people are incapable of understanding the long-term ramifications. Like a rain forest, remove on species and you set off a chain-reaction where others who relied upon that species as a food source die which in turn was a food source for yet another species. It is like Adma Smith’s Invisible Hand for the economy is never created by governmental design, but by individuals seeing an opportunity and filling that nitch.

Mark Levin: Dems want mail-in voting 'extended' so even if Trump 'wins they can call him a fake president'

Levin says Democrats are 'suddenly' interested in mail-in voting to 'collapse' and 'overwhelm' the system

Democrats want mail-in voting “extended” so even if Trump wins the 2020 election “they can call him a fake president,” Mark Levin, host of “Life, Liberty & Levin,” said on Sunday morning.

Levin pointed out on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday that President Trump “never said he wouldn’t leave office.”

“The president said I got to see what happens on Election Day because all of us see what’s going on,” he continued. “The states are incapable of doing 100 million potentially or 80 million or 60 million people with mail-in voting.”

“We’ve never seen this before,” he noted.

Levin was referencing an interview President Trump did with "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace last month where he warned that mail-in voting would “rig the election.”

During the interview, Wallace asked Trump whether the president would accept the results of the presidential election in November, and asked whether the president was a “good loser.”

“I’m not a good loser. I don’t like to lose. I don’t lose too often. I don’t like to lose,” Trump said. “You don’t know until you see. It depends. I think mail-in voting is going to rig the election, I really do.”

The president and Republicans have been warning about possible voter fraud connected to mail-in voting for months, while Democrats and the media have often pointed to a lack of evidence that mail-in voting, and absentee voting, lead to voter fraud.

On Sunday, Levin brought up Nevada’s expanded mail-in voting for the upcoming election.

The Trump campaign and the Republican state and national committees filed a lawsuit against Nevada, claiming Assembly Bill 4, which would allow ballots to be mailed to all registered voters in the state, will undermine the election’s “integrity,” FOX 5 in Las Vegas reported.

Gov. Steve Sisolak, a Democrat, signed the bill last week after it passed the state legislature along party lines, the Nevada Independent reported.

Lebanon's information minister resigns amid violent protests after Beirut blast

Lebanon's Information Minister Manal Abdel Samad resigned as violent protests grow in response to an explosion in the port of Beirut that left more than 150 people dead. "I want to apologize to the Lebanese people, whose aspirations we were unable to fulfill due to the difficulty of the challenges facing us," Abdel Samad said in a Sunday statement. Abdel Samad is one of several government officials who resigned from their post following the blast. She is the second minister to resign from Prime Minister Hassan Diab's government in a week following Foreign Minister Nassif Hitti, who quit on Monday, according to Al Jazeera.

The explosion is believed to have been sparked by nearly 3,000 tons of ammonium nitrate that was stored in a nearby port. The highly explosive chemicals arrived in 2013, but Lebanese officials took no swift action to disperse of the material since then. The explosion has left large swaths of Beirut in shambles and wounded at least 5,000 people. Hundreds of thousands of other residents were left homeless. Violent protests have escalated in recent days demanding accountability and resignations from public officials over the explosion. Protesters briefly named the Foreign Ministry the headquarters of their movement, setting up gallows and nooses with cardboard cutout images of top Lebanese officials with the message that they need to "resign or hang."

President Trump recently expressed support for the protests and called for Lebanon to conduct a "full and transparent investigation" into the Beirut blast. The United States also committed to send $17 million in disaster aid to Lebanon to help the country recover. National security adviser Robert O'Brien said the first wave of aid will provide food, water, and medical supplies to the people of Lebanon.

'Spiritual Health Is Essential': Godspeak Church Defies Restraining Order, No Police in Sight

On Sunday, Godspeak Calvary Chapel and Pastor Rob McCoy held services, violating a temporary restraining order enforcing Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-Calif.) ban on in-person gatherings. The church reportedly hit capacity and had to leave some parishioners outside. Others came to support the church’s worship while a few pro-lockdown protesters gathered to face the crowd. As observers noted there were no police in sight to enforce the restraining order, a disgruntled woman took to social media to tattle on the church to the local sheriff.

“Here outside Godspeak church this morning in Newbury Park, where the parking lot is filling up fast. Despite a temporary restraining order being put in place Friday, hundreds are showing up this morning for services. Services are planned for 9, 11 and 1,” Kyle Jorrey, editor at the Thousand Oaks Acorn, tweeted with a video of parishioners arriving.

A large group of church supporters arrived with signs reading, “Church: More Essential Than Marijuana Shops and Abortion Clinics,” “Spiritual Health Is Essential,” “Where The Spirit Of The Lord Is, There Is Freedom,” and “Free California.” In a similar case involving Grace Community Church Pastor John MacArthur, Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund lawyer Charles LiMandri noted that Gov. Newsom has supported Black Lives Matter protesters and is not extending the same lockdown rules he applies on churches to marijuana dispensaries, retail outlets, and abortion clinics.

Some claimed that “thousands” came out to support religious liberty, although the crowd does not seem that large.

A small group of pro-lockdown protesters also arrived. They held signs reading, “God Can Hear You At Home, Don’t Be Free-Dumb,” “Jesus Loves You, Rob McCoy Loves Himself,” and “This Church Endangers Us All.”

A small scuffle broke out between the pro-church protesters and the pro-lockdown protesters.

French Passengers Sue Costa Cruises Over Virus Ship Ordeal

Around 850 French passengers who were onboard a coronavirus-riddled cruise ship that was turned away from numerous ports in March have filed a collective suit in Paris with 180 complaints, including manslaughter, against Costa Cruises, their lawyer said Sunday.

The class action, which includes complaints from the families of three passengers who died of COVID-19, accuses the Italy-based cruise giant of negligence and various faults during their trip on the Costa Magica.

From March 6 to 13 the ship was refused to dock in most of the Caribbean islands it visited, including Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados and Saint Lucia.

In the absence of stopovers, the crew encouraged the passengers to use the ship's shops, spas, restaurants and casino without sufficiently putting health measures in place or informing them there were suspected infections onboard the complainants said in their suit.

"It was meant to be a dream cruise, but it ended in an ordeal," he said.

Costa Cruises, which is part of the Carnival group, has suspended its trips worldwide until August 15 due to the pandemic.

Alex Azar on Taiwan: ‘Very Important Partner of United States’

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar told Breitbart News exclusively he views his trip to Taiwan as a message from the United States to the world that Taiwan is and has been a “very important partner” with the U.S. when it comes to global health security. Azar touched down in Taiwan on Sunday, marking the first trip from this high-ranking of a U.S. official since the United States shifted formal diplomatic recognition in the late 1970s under former Democrat President Jimmy Carter from Taiwan’s government, the Republic of China, to the People’s Republic of China (PRC)—run by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) on the mainland in Beijing.

“Taiwan has been a very important partner of the United States, but also of the world community as a model of transparent, collaborative, and cooperative approaches to public health throughout the last several years, but especially during the COVID-19 crisis,” Azar told Breitbart News on Friday afternoon, ahead of his trip. “It’s important that I go to reaffirm the partnership that the United States has with Taiwan in public health, but also to hold up Taiwan as a model to the types of behaviors that are important in the international community.” Azar’s visit to Taiwan comes amid the highest-ever tensions between the United States and Chinese Communist Party, as the coronavirus pandemic rages across the planet. It also comes as the United States slaps sanctions on Hong Kong’s Carrie Lam for being appeasing Chinese authorities in Beijing who have essentially taken over there—something that China’s leader Xi Jinping has long viewed as a goal for unifying Taiwan back into Chinese control. The history is complicated, but what happened is in the mid-20th century, as the Communists under Mao Zedong’s revolution rose to power in China, the old government—the Kuomintang—fell back to Taiwan where it established first a military dictatorship that would later become a democracy.

The Communist Party of China refuses to engage in formal diplomacy with any nation that formally engages in diplomacy with Taiwan. Since Carter changed U.S. formal diplomatic channels from Taiwan to China, the U.S. has established deep informal diplomatic ties between the two nations. Technically, neither country has an “embassy” in the other, instead just using formal government-backed nonprofits—the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) backed by the U.S., and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) backed by Taiwan here—to engage in relationship-building. Since the 1980s, Taiwan has been a democracy, and its current President Tsai Ing-wen has been particularly harsh on the Chinese Communist Party—and particularly close with the Trump administration. But, again, no formal such meeting like this—with a senior current cabinet-level U.S. official visiting Taiwan—has taken place since 1979, making Azar’s visit particularly important.

Taiwan and the United States have never been closer than during the Trump administration, Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu told Breitbart News during an interview at the end of a trip that Breitbart News took to Taiwan last year. Wu said the relationship’s strength was “unprecedented.” “Overall speaking, the warmth and the support coming from the Trump administration these days is unprecedented and we enjoy these kinds of relationships,” Wu said in the interview in the spring of 2019. “As a result, you can rest assured, Taiwan will continue to work with the United States on whatever kinds of issues Taiwan can make a contribution.”

Sen. Ron Johnson: Suppressing Breitbart News Is Part of Google’s Electioneering for Democrats

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) identified Google’s suppression of Breitbart News within its search engine as an example of the technology company’s left-wing political agenda to assist the Democrat Party, offering his remarks on Friday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with host Jerome Hudson.

Johnson recalled Google’s near-complete removal of Breitbart News from its search results.

Google manipulates search results for those “investigating politics,” Johnson said. “They’ll send you to everything positive about Joe Biden and everything negative about Donald Trump.”

“[Google’s] manipulation can be powerful,” Johnson added, “and then, of course, what they’re doing with other search results, which is why Breitbart’s results are down so low. It’s obvious that they have political bias.”

Johnson wrote of Google’s suppression of Breitbart News in a letter he co-authored with Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) to Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Thursday regarding:

Conservative outlets have continued to face diminished search results n Google. Breitbart News’ editor-in-chief Alex Marlow said during an interview last week that Google was limiting exposure of Breitbart news in Google searches, so much s that Breitbart’s visibility index is down 99.7% since 2016 and overall their Google traffic is down nearly two-thirds.

Johnson and Lee requested “assurances” from Pichai that Google would “not allow any sort of electioneering or use of politically-biased algorithms on its platform” given the company’s power over the global flow of information.

Google is “wielding such a massive ability to show people information or not show people information,” Johnson stated.

Pichai’s denial of Google’s political shaping of its services is “laughable,” Johnson determined.

Johnson warned, “It should concern all of us [that Google is] completely being partisan and supporting Democrats, and it’s scary.”

Global scandals now labeled Russiagate, Spygate, and what President Trump calls “Obamagate” shook the political world, but hit me closer to home.

I’m the reason the so-called FBI “spy” at the center of Spygate, Stefan Halper, met Carter Page, the alleged “Russian Asset” in Russiagate’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation.

On May 19, 2018, this realization blindsided me in London as I was about to fly out for my wedding. The New York Times, NBC News and other sources had outed my PhD supervisor, Stefan Halper, as a spy known to the UK’s MI6 intelligence service as “The Walrus.”

It didn’t seem real. Could a former professor I once trusted as a mentor have betrayed his word, profession, and country to start these disasters? I had moved to England to pursue an academic career and leave DC’s politics behind, only to have my PhD supervisor throw me back into the most outrageous political firestorms I could imagine. Just my luck. Then an even worse question began nagging at me. Did I unintentionally light the match that started it all?

As I started to piece together what happened over the next few months, I realized something. The stories that The New York Times, Washington Post,and others were pushing didn’t add up. Many seemed planted to cover up or advance the agendas of several individuals whose tentacles secretly ran through these scandals, and who each had longstanding ties to intelligence services like the FBI, CIA, and MI6. I call these individuals the Cambridge Four.

Strangely, all four were linked through that sleepy British academic town thousands of miles from the alleged “ground zeroes” of Russiagate’s conspiracies, Moscow and DC. In addition to the central “Spygate” figure Halper, they include the central source of “Russiagate’s” fake conspiracy theories, Christopher Steele; former MI6 Director Sir Richard Dearlove; and Halper’s and Dearlove’s partner in a Cambridge Intelligence Seminar linked to titillating — but false — tales of a “Russian spy” seducing Trump’s top national security advisor. My years of work with Halper provided an inside view of how their four networks interconnected. The more I dug up new pieces of this puzzle, the more I saw how these individuals’ seemingly separate acts might fit together in an absurd picture of how these scandals really started.

Armed with first-hand knowledge and evidence, I quietly sought to help federal investigators uncover these scandals’ mysteries. It wasn’t my first rodeo. After witnessing the plane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11, I led G8 and State Department international crime and terrorism efforts with Department of Justice (DOJ), FBI, and intelligence officials and had worked for decades in White House, Congressional, and presidential campaign roles. This helped me keep a stiff upper lip when I was falsely accused in 2019 by the House Intelligence Committee’s Ranking Republican and others on television as being part of a secret anti-Trump cabal. As much as I wanted to defend myself, I knew our best shot of exposing the real forces behind these scandals was for me to remain publicly silent and not let those under investigation know what I knew or was willing to say...
