In a Major Move, City ENDS Police Traffic Stops, Will Cut the Police Budget in Half
The move comes after claims that police officers all too often escalate minor traffic stops into deadly situations. These claims are well founded.
After debating into the early hours of Wednesday morning, the Berkeley City Council approved this most unprecedented move.
According to KTVU:
The council approved Mayor Jesse Arreguin’s omnibus measure, which includes elements, such as creating a Department of Transportation that will make and enforce traffic stops, rather than utilize Berkeley police officers, hire a consultant to analyze police calls and responses, and determine which calls can be answered by non-police officers, as well as setting a goal to reduce the police budget by 50%.
The Berkeley City Council had recently approved a city budget that decreased police department spending by $9.2 million, or about 12% of the police budget.
The move also now allocated $100,000 from the general fund to analyze and develop a specialized care unit to handle these calls and $160,000 for an auditor to analyze police calls and responses.
“Most traffic stops don’t really warrant a police officer,” said Darrell Owens, the co-executive of East Bay for Everyone, a housing and traffic non-profit. He helped pitch the new, one-year plan to Berkeley City Council. According to ABC 7, he says ideally the city would take money away from Berkeley PD to fund a new department.
“A minor traffic violation should not have resulted in the murder of a black or brown body, but at the same time we can also re-examine the nature of punitive law enforcement and broken windows policing that makes traffic enforcement so deadly to begin with.”
The officials who proposed ending police traffic enforcement dispelled any preconceived notions that this would allow dangerous criminals and drunks to rule the roads.
“We don’t want to inhibit apprehending dangerous criminals or drunk drivers. That is not the intent,” said Berkeley City councilmember, Lori Droste.

“Singing in church is a biblical mandate,” said Kevin Green, pastor of Calvary Chapel in Fort Bragg. Churches, like all facilities in the state deemed nonessential, were closed in March amid the governor's stay-at-home orders at the beginning of the pandemic. But as restrictions were eased and more sectors of the economy reopened, houses of worship were allowed to welcome worshipers, beginning in May, provided they adhered to health and safety protocols, which limited attendance and, at the time, discouraged singing."

Openly gay Congressman Jared Polis (D.-Colo.) has a peculiar habit of creating enemies. Silicon Valley's movers and shakers loathe him. His fellow rich Colorado gays shun him. And now the media hates him, too! The now-defunct Rocky Mountain News, which published its last edition on Friday, endorsed Polis's opponent in the November election which put him in Congress. He just couldn't resist dancing on the newspaper's grave: "I have to say, that when we say, 'Who killed The Rocky Mountain News,' we're all part of it, for better or worse, and I argue it's mostly for the better," Polis said at the Netroots Nation in Your Neighborhood event in Westminster, according to a recording posted online. The group supports progressive politics. "The media is dead, and long live the new media, which is all of us," said Polis, a Boulder Democrat. That sent The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg into a predictable fit of apoplexy. (He titled his blog post "Go to Hell, Jared Polis" before some prudish Atlantic editor changed it.)
So the pundits of Washington D.C. are getting a taste of Polis's know-it-all self-righteousness! That's a relief to people in Silicon Valley and Colorado, who bore the brunt of it. As an 18-year-old, he traveled to Russia and made money trading privatization vouchers — you know, the botched, scandal-ridden privatization which wrecked Russa's economy and led to the domination of the economy by ex-KGB oligarchs. Next stop: Silicon Valley! In October 1999, right before the first dotcom crash, Polis, then known as Jared Polis Schutz, sold Bluemountain.com, his family's online greeting-cards website, to Excite@Home for $780 million, including $350 million in cash that Excite couldn't really spare. Excite sold it for $35 million in September 2001, and filed for bankruptcy a month later. People still talk about it as one of the most spectacular cashouts of the dotcom boom.
He later sold ProFlowers, an online florist, to John Malone's Liberty Media. (All told, he's started a dozen companies.) He used the cash to buy his way into politics, getting elected to the Colorado State Board of Education (and changing his name to Jared Schutz Polis, "to honor his mother's maiden name"). When he geared up to run for Congress, he didn't get much support from natural allies. Fellow gay Colorado tech entrepreneur Tim Gill declined to back him in the primary, as did Coors scion Scott Coors and his partner David Hurt. He won against the candidate they backed, and trounced his Republican opponent. One of his first acts as a congressman? He took his staff on a retreat to Boulder, Colo., and forced them to eat a vegan lunch and do yoga. Who is this guy? People sure don't like him. And yet it seems like being on the other side of a deal from him is a losing bet. Which means: He's sure going to have fun in Washington!

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has urged the government of Papua New Guinea to end what she called a "culture of violence" against women, as she made a brief visit to the South Pacific nation.
Clinton flew to Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, Wednesday, from Malaysia, the previous stop on her two-week tour of Asia.
In a visit that last several hours, Clinton held talks with Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister Michael Somare and a group of women's rights activists. Rights groups say Papua New Guinea has one of the world's highest rates of violence and rape against women and girls.
Clinton said the Obama administration is working on a program to end the violence in cooperation with local groups and U.S. energy giant Exxon Mobil, a major investor in Papua New Guinea. Mr. Somare denied that his nation is cruel to women, calling such reports exaggerated.
Clinton later departed for New Zealand, the next stop of her tour.
Rights activists say some women in Papua New Guinea have been killed on suspicion of sorcery. The rural nation is populated by hundreds of indigenous tribes.
Clinton said the United States also is prepared to help Papua New Guinea manage an expected windfall from a $15 billion natural gas project to supply energy to Asian countries. Exxon is the biggest stakeholder in the venture.
The top U.S. diplomat said that if revenues from such projects are not handled the right way, a country may become poorer and suffer what she called a "resource curse." Some people in Papua New Guinea are concerned that its new riches will encourage corruption.
Clinton offered to send U.S. experts to the country to give advice on managing a sovereign wealth fund that will handle the money.
The top U.S. diplomat also discussed climate change with Mr. Somare. Rising sea levels blamed on global warming have threatened the coastlines of low-lying Pacific island nations.
Clinton called for more progress in international negotiations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that scientists say cause global warming.
She is the first U.S. secretary of state to visit Papua New Guinea since 1998. Her regional tour also has taken her to Vietnam, China and Cambodia, with final stops planned for Australia and American Somoa.

Microsoft, Tech Investors Promote ‘Dreamers’ to Preserve Supply of Visa Workers
Many journalists have missed the huge financial stakes of the years-long dispute over the DACA work permits, even as they sympathetically portray the “dreamer” illegals who are seeking to stay in the United States.
The young DACA illegals are sympathetic figures, and legislators have struggled to develop a legal means to accept them without triggering a bigger wave of wage-cutting migrants.
But the migrants and the media are also tools of major corporations who wish to block President Donald Trump’s on-again, off-again immigration reforms.
Trump’s reforms would reduce the inflow of migrants and so pressure companies to hire Americans at higher wages. That is a problem for business interests because higher wages mean lower profits and reduced stock prices.
So far, the corporations have been entirely successful in delaying Trump. Amid constant criticism from Democrats, CEOs, and reporters, and amid GOP hostility and passivity, Trump failed to get his reform agenda through the Senate in February 2018. Only on June 22 did he finally order a deep overhaul to the many visa worker programs which keep at least 1.3 million foreign visa workers in white-collar jobs.
The visa worker pipelines are the big prize for the tech executives and investors, including those in FWD.us. The pipelines allow the executives to sideline outspoken and innovative American professionals, and to fill their offices with compliant, cheap, and unmoving foreign workers. That hidden personnel policy raises stock prices, corrals employees, and stymies the development of rival technologies and products.
Throughout this long fight, the tech executives, the Fortune 500, and their media allies have used emotional claims from the young DACA illegals to delay and divert Trump. Their efforts were rejuvenated in June when the five judges on Supreme Court ordered Trump to go back to 2017 and restart the process of ending the work permit offer to roughly 700,000 illegals.
Now Trump must decide how to restart the DACA wind-down, amid corporate calls for him to accept the DACA giveaway just four months before the 2020 reelection.
Tweets expose the corporate role in the DACA campaign from DACA supporters during their demonstration at the Supreme Court last November.
Many of those demonstrating “dreamers” were picked, trained, and delivered to the courthouse by influencers working for Microsoft Corp., according to a series of tweets sent by the employees of the investor-funded FWD.us advocacy group.

The bankers sold the king’s promise to investors for hoarded gold. The promise (security) was renewed by the bank on its maturing date and became perpetually rolled-over. 2

The schemes stole the wealth from the people with its book-entry fiat money5 until the people brought a catastrophic climax.6
The Federal Reserve system does the same thing with the U.S. government’s deficit spending. The banking wizard is hiding behind Frank Baum’s curtain of the government image Federal Reserve marquee7 as obscurant to any public inquiry.8
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York will grant credit (not “create money”) in an account of the U.S. government in an amount that the government will pledge. 9 The government will expend the book-entry-credit account (deficit spending) to pay for goods and services consumed by the government. The suppliers are content. Evidence that the supplier has received a credit voucher is obvious. The heading of the currency given to the supplier by a local commercial bank is Federal Reserve Note; i.e., a debt obligation of the Federal Reserve. Historically, it was identified to be redeemable for gold, silver, or lawful money. It is now identified as a “tender” (substitute) required by law to be accepted for an imprinted number of dollars. What you have is what you get. [It is touted to the public as a loan.] 10
To sell the promise from the government at the highest price, the Federal Reserve (as fiscal agent for the government) will hold an auction but will imply it is an auction by the government.11 Acceptance of bids, determining the interest rate, and the amount of deficit spending permitted is controlled by the BOG.12 Government regulations establish the funds from the auctions are controlled exclusively by the FRBNY; i.e., a franchisee of the BOG13. 14
The roll-over of approximately $12 trillion debt from prior years (publicly held maturing) is annually auctioned and disbursed by the FRBNY. The approximate $1 trillion auctioned for deficit spending is evidenced by TreasuryDirect as “new cash.” 15 [Currently new cash can be 100% to a negative (input) of the issue.] Since all values are determined by the Fed, they must be given to TD.

Teigen, 34, says she has blocked more than 1 million people and deleted more than 60,000 tweets after becoming the subject of a bizarre conspiracy theory about the late convicted pedophile and financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Teigen has faced a barrage of “scary harassment,” she says, since, following the arrest of his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell, some social media users alleged that Teigen once flew on Epstein’s private jet. The cookbook author says she was also accused of being a “pedophile.”
Teigen vehemently denied the allegations. “I have never even met the man,” she tweeted on July 10, referring to Epstein. “Or been to the island. Or on the plane.”
“I have block chained over one million people, ONE MILLION people today and I am still flooded with sick psychopaths. So please, spare me the ‘just ignore them, they’re just trolls,'” Teigen, 34, tweeted Tuesday.
“Anyhow I’ll do my best to stop entertaining them. They have definitely been living for this and have zeroed in on ONLY me.
“Thank u to EVERYONE for helping me, in and out of the dm’s. People I’ve never met have been so, so kind and huge thank you to [journalist Yashar Ali] especially.”
Left-wing media group ‘Blast’ backed Teigen up saying that ‘This level of targeted harassment has got to be disheartening, and it’s getting to the point that Teigen is even considering leaving Twitter completely.’
However Teigen is being blasted for the numerous tweets where she seems to support pedophilia.
In one of her tweets she talks about how ‘sexy young girls are doing the splits’ and that she should just ‘go to jail’ (in reference to her pedophilic attitude).
In another tweet – which has also been deleted among a million others – she talks about how sexy toddler’s tummies are.
‘Are they meant to be this sexy?’ she exclaimed.
And in another shocking tweet she spoke of how glad she was a young boy was now at a pageant she was watching with her saying ‘Yummy…eye candy at last.’
After her tweets were exposed, Teigen blocked them and is now shifting the blame onto a ‘conspiracy theory’ group known as Qanon.
The group are labelled as ‘far-right warriors’ who are outing the’ deep state’ – a cabal of corporations and high ranking bankers and officials who are believed to worship Satan.
Qanon are against the trafficking of women and children – just like President Trump – and want to bring about the fall of this Cabal, a war they say they are winning.
Calling themselves the red pill warriors, meaning they have taken the red pill seen in the Matrix films, and have their eyes wide open to the darkness over the world that are ‘government and corporations.’
In Teigen’s case, her anger comes as she retweeted an accusation against her and her husband, John Legend, and threatened to leave the platform if Twitter doesn’t do something about it.
When someone wrote, “Lord, please save that child from the torment and suffering it will endure under those parents. May the cycle end with him. God bless,” she immediately fired back.
‘If twitter doesn’t do something about this *actually scary* harassment, I am gonna have to go.’
Teigen has become known for stiff-arming the haters that come her way online. Recently, one of her followers accused her of either having cancer or dropping a drastic amount of weight overnight when Teigen shared a video of her skincare routine with fans.
After the user called her “unrecognizable” and stating that they had to go back and look at the video several times because it just didn’t look like Teigen, the Sports Illustrated model fired back.
“What would you prefer?” she initially responded with after the user accused her of either being sick or losing weight.
Then once they kept going, she said, “Why are you carrying on with this?? Why do you think I owe you anything especially after what you’ve said? You know you don’t actually know me in real life, right? Thank God.”

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia, chancellor of the new John Paul II Pontifical Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences in Rome and the president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, retweeted a post that originated from the John Paul II Institute. The original post was part of a promotion of a broadcast featuring film director Alessandro D'Alatri. The film director was behind the 2002 film Casomai, which according to the John Paul II Institute’s web page promoting the broadcast, is “used today in all premarital courses.”
“Today at ‘Now airing Gp2' we will talk about cinema and family with Alessandro D'Alatri, winner of four awards at the festival @PopoliReligioni,” wrote Paglia’s in a retweet [WARNING: Link goes to image of naked adults, children] as translated from its original Italian to English.
The image shows two actors of the film Casomai, Fabio Volo, and Stefania Rocca, lying down naked with one arm holding up their heads. They are surrounded by four naked children, who appear to be male and of a similar age. The actors are posed in such a way to mostly cover intimate parts of the body.
Casomai is a film revolving around two lovers who marry in a rural church where the priest questions the couple about the “lasting power of relationships.” It is told in flashback sequences that portray the ups and downs of their marriage.
This is not the first time Paglia has been involved in a controversy involving images of naked people.
The archbishop was featured in a homoerotic painting he commissioned in his Cathedral.

Clive Palmer charged with fraud, director breaches
Clive Palmer faces up to five years in jail after being charged with fraud and dishonest use of his position as a company director over the funding of his political party.
Mr Palmer was charged following an investigation by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) into the activites of Mr Palmer's businesses and his political party the Palmer United Party.
The corporate watchdog alleges that between August 5, 2013 and September 5, 2013, Mr Palmer dishonestly obtained a benefit or advantage for Cosmo Developments Pty Ltd and/or the Palmer United Party (PUP) and others by authorising the transfer of $10,000,000 contrary to the purpose for which the funds were being held.
It is alleged that he dishonestly used his position as a director of Mineralogy Pty Ltd (Mineralogy), a mining company owned by him, to obtain that advantage.
ASIC also alleges that Mr Palmer dishonestly obtained a benefit or advantage for Media Circus Network Pty Ltd and/or PUP by authorising the transfer of more than $2 million.
It is alleged that Mr Palmer dishonestly used his position as a director of Mineralogy in obtaining that advantage as well.
The maximum penalty for an offence is $340,000 or imprisonment for five years, or both.
However, ASIC said that if circumstances of aggravation are established, the maximum penalty at the time the offences are alleged to have occurred is increased to 12 years imprisonment.
The corporate watchdog had flagged the charges at a joint parliamentary committee in March. The regulator was again quizzed on the topic at a committee hearing this week.
Mr Palmer has been contacted for comment. He has previously described the allegations as having "no merit".
