If hedonism exists and God is dead, what still draws a significant number of people in wealthy countries towards ascetic philosophies?
Why is a saint, even if secular, still looked upon with awe?

because not everyone is a hedonist anon, there is no such thing as a secular saint. Most people in wealthy countries aren't ascetic anyways. If I had to wager a guess to why people look at ascetics with awe, its because ascetics have amazing willpower and determination in order to cast aside the things that regular people look upon as superficial and take for granted.

In an effort to clarify, I meant "saint" in the second, informal definition (pic related).
