In sony vegas I can drag a track right acrass another and it cross fade from one to the other, also transition can be added but I digress I ONLY NEED the god damn fucking cross fade.

try this.
1. get up at 3AM with your recorder and record the birds.
That's your background track.
2. write an acoustic piece on what ever fucking strings you got. play as clean and no cars or engines as you can.
now mix that at the beginning and end with birds.
