People not using consistent pictures is confusing the hell out of me. I can't tell how many people there are exactly and I can't make heads or tails of anything that happened.
I did notice that some of the posting looked way too similar to 4chan for my tastes.
That's not what I come here for.

I've always seen the Upstairs threads as places to post cute pictures. Discussion is always secondary, but welcome if it's a pleasant one.

That is the way I like them too. But yukari anon and the new person were just going over some history and doing their thing. I don't think there is anything actually negative there, despite how they post with each other. I'm hesitant to be too harsh of someone just because they post things that annoy me.

I like discussion, but only if it's friendly and good natured. I didn't get that impression from earlier.
I think it's good to talk about things. It's also fine to have nothing in particular you want to say. It's all about enjoying each others' company to me. I'll admit that I do wish that we were a somewhat more talkative bunch, but this is still a good thing we have going here. My wish comes from a belief that you are all wonderful people and that being closer friends is never a bad thing, however I fully recognize that my view is not necessarily that of everyone else.

I think if they're going to have their conversations here, they need to conform to our standards of courtesy. This is not a place where even facetious rudeness and instigation is wanted. Joking around is fine, but there is a line that I believe was crossed.

I wish they would conform to our own board culture better too, before making huge posts that are obviously out of place. Telling other people how to post isn't something I really want to do though, unless it is obviously against the rules. If it becomes a consistent issue then yeah I would agree some action could be needed. We are a small community so one person can have a big impact, and I'd like it if everyone was as happy as possible.

Things were tense earlier. Rinmod seemed upset at the newcomer basically challenging his authority to his face. I don't even think the issue is the fact that he was addressing a mod, but acting defiant when told that they had gone too far instead of asking what they did wrong was way out of line no matter who they were speaking to and it made everything seem very sour. I didn't like that at all.
If similar incidents were to occur again, I would speak up about it. If there's one thing I hate (and you all know this already), it's when there's conflict and arguing between people here. I want everyone to get along and enjoy each others' company.

I'm not a fan of that posting style either, but I don't think it's fair to tell someone that they should post a different way if they're not breaking any of the rules we have.
If YukariAnon and the other Anon were having fun with that back and forth banter, and there was no actual hostility behind it, then it wouldn't be right for us to tell them to stop.

Why is it not fair? This community belongs to us. We made it. We as a collective decide what breaks the rules and what doesn't. If something turns out to be disruptive but isn't against any written rules, then we write one to fix the problem.
Let me disclaimer all of this by saying that this is something we have the ability to do in an extreme circumstance after all rational discussion has failed and the two sides cannot rectify at all. I do not advocate doing such a thing at this point in any way whatsoever.
What currently needs to be done is an education on board etiquette. Help them understand that this board is not like 4chan and should not be used as such.

I think they should have been nicer regardless of who was talking to them, but that is not normal for chans. The norm is much more hostile and that is expected usually. Learning about the board etiquette is an important thing. That even applies to major boards, in that you should know what it's accepted there and what's not by the community.
It's not obligatory to follow it, but it does strongly influence the rules and how they're applied.
