To continue another topic from yesterday: I have seen the moderators/janitors board on 4chan. Don't ask me how but I know exactly why that site is the way it is. Basically they are required to keep the site from legal trouble and enforce the rules to a degree but above all there is a rule that if people are having fun, let them be. don't quote me on any of this tho The reason behind that rule is that at the end of the day the site is just a business that relies on having as many users as possible, no matter how the users feel about it. The moderation rules there are so loose that if the Miku threads got deleted it was because someone just wanted them deleted, or was reporting them or just some janitor was having a power play.

These are basically the reason there is no resemblance of quality on /v/ by my opinion but in some ways this /miku/ board has the opposite problem

I'm getting to it. But it's just my observations.

Anonymous image boards are never like other sites. There are some fundamental principles that are inherent in all anonymous imageboards that are present in their purpose no matter what anyone says.

One of them if equality among posters and posts. Another is the choice of anonymity. Freedom of expression to a degree etc. Then another inherent part of anonymous image boards is that unlike forums, chat sites or most anywhere else, users are given the tools for controlling and modifying their own experience. They can block/hide, filer posts or users. If a rule is being violated or they feel someone is threatening or doing something inappropriate to them they can report. Then and only then a moderator can step in and take required action.

A moderator is not allowed to make judgements on their own on what other people are feeling or make his own arbitrary readings of the rules. The reason why that happens of 4chan is because mods just don't care. They are mods because they want to feel in control and powerful in the context to a regular user.

If a moderator thinks something that goes against the rules is happening. They can, without announcing their identity or presence, politely ask: what is being discussed and what is the context.

The single one most important rule for all moderators on 4chan is that they are never to reveal their mod status or announce their presence. That rule is there not out of a personal whim of the site owner but has very strong logic for why it should be that way.

Absolutely no one wants to know they have people looking over and are being tracked or judged for what they are posting. Even more so no one likes to feel threatened by the announced intervention of a mod.

I'll get to how all this ties in with the misunderstanding and this board's attitudes in general.

In the case with what I was talking about with someone else it was obviously a personal conversation between us two with lingo that we understand. If RinMod thought I was doing something threatening then he could have more appropriately brought up the subject without putting in his weight of a mod before proper assessment is done.

If he considered something against the board's demeanor or that it could bother other people he should state so in a respectful manner, kindly like a poster to poster, while hiding his mod privileges. In that case, I can personally take action to edit/delete or watch my posts.

I know that there is no fun in having all the responsibility of a mod and no one knowing that you are at the same time but constantly waving fingers, putting the weight of your mod status behind your words and even small things like flaunting privileges like post editing to demonstrate that, in fact, there is a mod present, is in very bad taste.

I don't like passive aggressively indirectly talking about someone so I'll directly address RinMod. If I was acting that way to you it is because you have no authority. That kind of behavior is part of the reason people feel uncomfortable to post here. You can't have an anonymous image board community of equal posters when some posters are more equal than others. I said that I lurked for some time in the past. I can give you an ordinary posters look on how all this looks and feels to me personally. There is no such thing as board culture. To be frank the idea behind board culture is what is killing 4chan in the first place. People shouldn't limit themselves to what a hivemind tells them to do. I like to be more direct with people and have genuine conversations. If I want to express my sympathy, concern or emotions I will do so in a genuine manner like a normal person. I don't know what you are trying to sell here with all these ❤️ s and emojis but anyone who has lived past their teen years knows it for the sham it is. You can't have people to count on over the internet.

Being polite is one thing but I don't think you realize how blatantly fake, expected, forced kindness and politeness can be as off-putting and rude as facetious rudeness. In relation to that, sometimes I can be more coarse. I know my jokes can be inappropriate or stupid but you probably noticed I don't joke around with everyone the same way. I can assimilate in the board culture but I don't feel I did anything that goes against the rules or normal conversation as they are now.

When MM over at /v/ reached its image limit, people who didn't leave started talking about lots of things, probably because they enjoyed the company.

After it served its purpose in story-telling, and the /v/ thread reached its end, a few people came here to continue the conversation or to stay in company, and as time went on, it became the "general hangout" between Mondays, as I used to call it.

It was never just a /c/ equivalent. Discussion was never secondary.

It wasn't hard figuring out who the mods are just by their attitude and confidence in their posts. Doesn't it strike you how there is obvious disparity in how some people talk and others mind their words? Maybe it's just me. Either way that isn't of importance. Well I'm on break at the moment (oh shit, uni starts on Monday…) but a law degree by nature requires more time to be given for self study, a practice which I'm fairly proficient at. In addition to that, I'm more of the manager/creator of my business while my partner is currently doing much of the actual heavy lifting, so to speak.

I started posting like a week ago maybe. I was lurking before that for some time but only to save the images so I didn't read much. I honestly didn't/don't know most of the posters.

I've always considered this place to be open to everyone interested in the topics, but I did notice some people are a lot more sensitive oh the irony than expected, and it caused problems a few times already.

As I said previously, coming from 4chan(as probably most of us are) I know not to take a post literally, until the poster makes it clear they mean what they said, and not to make hasty assumptions. (especially if it's someone we know)

Contrary to this, I've noticed people tend to jump to conclusions for different reasons I usually don't understand. As I stated many times in the past, I never intended to hurt anyone, however, more than once, my jokes/pranks were taken the wrong way, resulting in a big mess/misunderstanding.

This is most likely because I trusted people not to assume any malice in my posts and assumed good friends can joke with each other (>>60554), or so I thought. Whether I was wrong one way or another, it did result in several incidents, which people are usually afraid to even mention.
