I'm still a bit conrfused. Did the USB ports just stop working or did it fry the CPU? ESD is usually an issue with connectors which is what TVS diodes are for. You don't want to send a few thousand volts to your CPU.

Probably whatever IC was first in line from the USB port was fried. Could've been like a USB multiplexer or something, but I don't know too much about motherboard design. Most likely a poorly designed motherboard though.

My first ever monitor was a ViewSonic. Ah good ol CRT times. What I like about the Asus one is its design but its specs are kinda mediocre. I mean a 1080p monitor. People had that in 2007 so I feel like really late to the party. I can just use my TV if I want that. I wanted my next monitor to be at least 1440p but my 6 year old hardware probably won't do that well will it. It will handle 1080p just fine and it will do better if I upgrade later on.
But all this is just like the opposite direction of my decision to not spend any money on hardware and games. I wanted to sell my PC/Consoles and go phone only but now… If I go with the 1440p version of the Asus monitor I will have to upgrade or get a new PC. So the dilemma is the direction to take.

Eh I have like 5 phones. Only two Smartphones tho. The Miku phone and the Xperia. I'm not selling the Miku phone and I'm using the Xperia. I should sell the rest but that's not a lot of money anyway.
My options are:
1. Stay the crumbling Normiecore path.
2a. Spend some money middle ground. Make use of the sale. Get the 1080p one.
2b. Get a cheap 1440p like Lenovo L24q-10. I think I've seen it for as low as 140 bucks, it's 180 bucks now but at that price I'm a little suspicious of its QA.
3. Just go all out and get a new PC and decent monitor, but I will have to wait for new parts to come out.
For option 2 I have to act today. With option 2b if I go 1440p and don't wanna spend a lot of money I can slap on a GTX 1060 down the line but I don't know if my CPU won't bottleneck. It's i5 3470.

Believe me, I have reflected on MGSV a lot and I came to the conclusion that the game Kojima wanted to put out was always going to be trash, and that the Konami intervention/shitstorm only made things even worse. It was Kojima's intention to move away from the "cinematic" style of before to the "episodic" style MGSV had, and that led to the barebones repetitive missions. Only a handful had any real plot relevance, and plot that was there was so thin that it hurt.
