Truthfully, I don't like it all that much. The change to dance videos instead of the music videos they had before really hurts my enjoyment of it. It's still fun though, but I'd recommend F or F2nd over it.

Yes, actually there is a short manga that served as a short prologue to Dark Souls 2 and it was distributed as a Digital Extra with some versions of the game, but then they made a full on Comic series by Titan Comics with western authors before the release of Dark Souls 3.
Don't quote me of this but I think each issues has a different author, or maybe it was one issue with different cover art, definitely a different cover is available for the first one.
The manga was too short to matter really and as for the comic books, I don't think they are canon. They are very disconnected with the series, at least that's what I heard.

true thing. something else I don't know if it happens somewhere else but here where I live, about/around two weeks before the Christmas the streets are filled with "Santa's sleighs". these are like allegorical cars with people disguised as kid's cartoon charactes that throw sweets at kids when they are seen. sometimes adults pay for a sleight to visit some kid's house/neighbour and deliver gifts to the kid(s), an X-mas boot and can take a photo to remember the visit of Santa to his house. really fun thing
a personal thought, maybe it just me but nothing seems to be the same anymore. I mean holidays in general feels just like another dutyfree day. and maybe a dinner with some related thematic on it. I don't wanna be a party popper but i kinda don't remember the last time I had fun with a holiday.

Exactly, there isn't all that much to take out of it on a first view. Just immerse yourself, I hope you found a good quality source. I basically didn't understand anything except catch some of the symbolism, like SPOILER the last image of the and stuff, you know that they were on something like… etc. The military theme, the sexual themes, evolution, the Biblical stuff, but not much more. I just like the stills and atmosphere.
Then I read some interpretations. Read about what messages could have been contained and some other things that escaped me like the fish and the fishermen chasing it. I read on the director and some ideas why he made it.
I didn't know he was the same guy who did the Ghost in the Shell movie. I've seen it too. It's very good, especially the visual again, but the story is much more standard, less cryptic.

By the way, all the machinery and mechanical design reminded me a lot and I mean a whole lot of 70s-80s communist era sci-fi techno fiction, because I remember finding a collection of old home country magazines from that time at my grandparents' house that were basically about that era's fascination with space, technology, exploration both with articles about fictional stuff and real life research. The art and imagery often used was very similar. Plus the covers of sci-fi books from that time often were in that style.
It's hard to explain what I'm referring to. A slight bit can be felt from this part of Nu Pogodi, but in a diluted, almost Tom and Jerry form.

It's just an era that has mostly passed, sadly, with a few exceptions here and there. The Japanese weren't the only ones at that time. If you need weird and artsy animations, the Russians produced a whole lot of obscure stuff, the French too, but you kinda expect it from those guys, it's like they are unable to make something ordinary.
It's just that it's actually really hard to digest sometimes. It can be so out there.

As far as French comics go I loved Pif et Hercule as a kid, and that one comic inside of it that was about a blonde fellow in an Ice Age, but with Dinosaurs. Very similar to that really good animation Fire and Ice:

I've also heard about some really good french comic that really old but it's some sci-fi thing about someone that was a cyborg like one of the earliest cyborgs in fiction or something.
I have to admit, the Japanese just make their artsy stuff look cooler. Slower and with cool factor characters, rather than the sporadic and culture based Rus/French ones.

I think it's actually based on a folk tale or something, I'm not sure. I think I've actually heard of the tale or am familiar with the theme culturally. I don't want to make any assumptions though and describe it. I could be way of beat.
