“The recording revealed that the Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call,” the Washington Post admitted in a retraction late last week, in a reference to the December 2020 phone call made by then-President Donald Trump to Frances Watson, a top Georgia election official. Unfortunately, the call was reported in such a way that made it appear as if Trump was pressuring Georgia’s election officials to create votes for him, so he could win the state’s 16 electoral votes.
Some Democrats even cited the call as another “reason” that Trump should be impeached in the House of Representatives and then convicted in the Senate. And a local Democrat prosecutor has launched a criminal probe over the supposedly illegal phone calls.
The six-minute call between Trump and Frances Watson, the chief investigator of the Georgia secretary of state’s office, was published by the Wall Street Journal, and contrary to the initial reports, Trump never told anyone to “find the fraud.” Instead, Trump told Watson that she had the most important job in the country, and should review signatures going back several years. It is hardly “criminal” to urge a public official to do her job.
At the time, Watson was investigating charges of fraud in Cobb County, and Trump urged her to add Fulton County (the county that includes most of Atlanta, and is the most heavily populated county in the state) to her investigation. “If you can get to Fulton, you are going to find things that are going to be unbelievable,” Trump told Watson."

The discovery of the call comes after state officials originally told CNN that they did not think audio of the call existed. Credit Suisse flags financial hit over Greensill collapse
Credit Suisse may have to book a charge over its dealings with Greensill, it warned on Tuesday, as investor scrutiny grows over its relationship with the British supply-chain finance company that collapsed into insolvency. The Swiss bank has had to close around $10 billion of supply-chain finance funds that bought notes issued by Greensill, and which it marketed to clients. It is also trying to recoup a $140 million loan it made to the company last year.
“While these issues are still at an early stage, we would note that it is possible that Credit Suisse will incur a charge in respect of these matters,” it said. Greensill filed for insolvency last week after losing insurance coverage for its debt repackaging business.
Credit Suisse’s share price has fallen over 10% since it announced its supply-chain funds were suspended on March 1. It has paid investors about $3.1 billion in redemptions from the four funds so far, and said it would be announcing further cash distributions over coming months.
The bank also said on Tuesday that, “contrary to certain reports”, its chief risk and compliance officer, Lara Warner, was not aware until Feb. 22 that insurance related to Greensill could expire on March 1.
Greensill founder Lex Greensill said in a court filing last week that he kept senior individuals at Credit Suisse, including Warner, informed about the funds’ insurance coverage in the “weeks” leading up to its insolvency application on March 8. The collapse has put fresh pressure on Credit Suisse Chief Executive Thomas Gottstein who has been trying to move the bank on from a string of bad headlines, spanning a spy scandal that ousted predecessor Tidjane Thiam to a $450 million write-down on a hedge fund investment.
The level of oversight and risk management applied at the bank’s asset management division is under scrutiny particularly as Gottstein had ordered a review of the Greensill funds last year. Supply-chain financing, or reverse factoring, is a method by which companies can get cash from banks and funds such as Greensill to pay their suppliers without having to dip into their working capital.
Credit Suisse declined to comment beyond its statements. The bank has hired external firms to help deal with regulators and insurers amid questions over the contracts that underpinned Greensill’s security. It has also recovered some $50 million of the $140 million bridge loan, it said, leaving its outstanding collateralised loan at $90 million.
Credit Suisse said on Tuesday that its asset management division, which sold the funds to investors, was working closely with Greensill’s administrator, Grant Thornton, and with other parties to facilitate the recovery of funds.
Japanese insurer Tokio Marine, which provided $4.6 billion of coverage to Greensill credit notes through an Australian unit, is investigating the validity of those policies. A person with knowledge of the matter has said these were directly linked to the Credit Suisse funds.

Lebanon protesters back on streets as pound loses 90% of its value
Angry protesters used burning tyres to block roads in parts of Beirut on Tuesday as the Lebanese pound crashed past a new milestone in its plunge against the dollar, losing most of its value as the country’s financial meltdown worsens.The pound traded at around 15,000 to the dollar and above for the first time on Tuesday, according to market dealers, and has now lost nearly 90% of its value since the crisis started in late 2019. “We are absolutely fed up, we are hungry we are finished,” one protester yelled.
Lebanon’s economic crisis is posing the biggest threat to its stability since the 1975-1990 civil war, wiping out jobs, locking people out of their bank deposits and raising the risk of widespread hunger. Parliament convened committees to discuss an emergency loan for the country’s electricity company after the energy minister warned it would be lights out across Lebanon by the end of March if a cash injection is not made.
The committees only managed to promise $200 million out of a total requested of around $1 billion. The proposal now has to be approved by parliament. An official source told Reuters that Lebanon’s foreign reserves now stand at around $16 billion. That compares with about $19.5 billion in August and means that not much is left for a subsidy programme to fund basic goods, including wheat and fuel.
Lebanon’s problems were compounded after an explosion at the port in August devastated whole tracts of Beirut, killing 200 people and prompting the government to resign, leaving the country rudderless as it sinks deeper into financial collapse. Prime minister Hassan Diab’s cabinet has stayed on in a caretaker capacity until a new government is formed. No budget has yet been passed by parliament for 2021.
Prime minister-designate Saad al-Hariri, nominated in October, is at loggerheads with President Michel Aoun and has been unable to form a new government to carry out reforms to unlock international aid.

US and Japan express 'serious concerns' over China coast guard law
Japan and the U.S. on Tuesday expressed "serious concerns" over a Chinese law that allows the nation's coast guard to fire at foreign ships in waters around the Japanese-administered Senkaku Islands, which Beijing claims as the Diaoyu. The allies agreed to deepen defense cooperation and hold joint military drills in the area around the islands in the East China Sea amid an upsurge in Chinese incursions into Japanese waters near the islets.
Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi revealed the exercises were taking place after "two-plus-two" talks in Tokyo that included Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin.
"The government believes it is important for the [Japanese] Self-Defense Forces and the U.S. military to enhance deterrence by acquiring a high level of capability through training," Kishi told reporters in Tokyo. "Yesterday, Japan's Air Self-Defense Force and the U.S. Air Force conducted another joint drill in the East China Sea," he said. "The Self-Defense Forces and the U.S. military have conducted a number of joint drills in the southwest [marine] area, including the Senkaku Islands. I hope that we will continue to steadily carry out such joint drills and keep showing that Japan and the United States are acting together."
Official Chinese vessels entered waters surrounding the Japan-administered Senkakus on six separate days in February – the most in four and a half years. China last month upgraded its coast guard to quasi-military status, allowing it to fire at foreign ships in its waters. Amid concerns that Beijing could further step up activities near the islands, Japanese government officials have said the Japan Coast Guard may be able to directly shoot at foreign targets caught committing violent crimes on their way to landing on Japanese territory.
The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea permits "necessary steps" to prevent the passage of ships that threaten their peace and security. Japan believes this to include the use of weapons by its coast guard in response to an attack by foreign ships, based on its law permitting authorities to shoot in self-defense.
The ministers said in a statement": The United States and Japan remain opposed to any unilateral action that seeks to change the status quo or to undermine Japan's administration of these islands." Robert Dujarric, co-director of the Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies at Temple University Japan Campus, told Nikkei Asia that Japan has to date been "very passive" and has not resorted to force to expel the Chinese vessels.
"Tokyo thinks that risking a clash over the uninhabited islands is not logical. This is based on the assumption that Chinese actions will not escalate into more aggressive moves, such as capturing Japanese fishing vessels and landing on the islands," he said. "Washington believes that if Japan responds there's a risk it will escalate into a kinetic clash that could morph into a Sino-American war. Washington thinks it's better to have minor violations of Japanese sovereignty than an armed conflict. It has thus suggested that Tokyo does not respond.

Myanmar plants run by Japan's Fast Retailing partner set ablaze
Two factories in the Myanmar city of Yangon run by Fast Retailing Co.'s local partner were set ablaze on the weekend, the operator of the fast-fashion Uniqlo and GU brands said Tuesday.
The extent of the damage caused at the plants Sunday amid protests against a Feb. 1 military coup remains unknown, the company said, adding it is confirming the situation in regard the fires. On Sunday, Chinese-linked factories in Yangon were attacked, leaving many people injured, according to the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. The Yangon factories of Fast Retailing's partner are located in townships where martial law has been declared, the company said, adding no injuries related to the fires have been reported as the plants were closed on Sunday.
There were five clothes production plants operated by Fast Retailing's partner company in Yangon and one in Bago, northeast of Yangon, as of March last year, according to the company. Many apparel companies and related corporations from Japan operate in the townships in Yangon currently under a declaration of martial law, according to sources familiar with the businesses. Japanese engineers employed by apparel companies from China and South Korea are also working in the townships.
Martial law was declared in Hlaingthaya and the neighboring township of Shwepyithar on Sunday, the first such declarations in Yangon since the Feb. 1 military coup, followed by orders in four more townships in the city on Monday. The declaration gives the military administrative and judicial authority in the areas.
On Sunday, at least 38 people were killed by security forces during protests, a Southeast Asia-based human rights organization said.
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners said the death toll equaled the number killed on March 3, the bloodiest day since the Feb. 1 military coup.

Italy Launches Manslaughter Investigation As Teacher Dies Hours After Getting AstraZeneca Jab

After law-enforcement authorities in Sicily and Piedmont seized batches of the AstraZeneca COVID jab, prosecutors in the EU's third-largest economy have launched a manslaughter investigation after a music teacher died just hours after receiving the jab.
According to Italian-language media outlets, 57-year-old Sandro Tognatti died after receiving the jab in his hometown of Biella on Saturday afternoon. He soon developed a high fever, but went to bed anyway, he his wife, Simona Riussi, told the Italian press.
The next morning, Riussi awoke to find Tognatti dead. She called an ambulance, but Tognatti was already dead. Prosecutors in Piedmont officially launched the investigation later in the day. As we mentioned above, prosecutors also seized a batch with nearly 400K jabs in it.
So far, health authorities have insisted that there's no link between the jab and Tognatti's death. Officials said a criminal investigation was launched to be "completely sure" that the man's death "cannot be attributed to the above-mentioned inoculation".
Italy, France, Germany and a handful of other nations temporarily suspended the AstraZeneca vaccine after reports of patients developing deadly blood clots surfaced. Deaths were reported in Austria and elsewhere, which prompted Denmark, Iceland and other nations (as far away as Thailand) to halt the jabs to allow for a brief investigation. AstraZeneca and the EMA (Europe's top regulatory authority) have insisted that there's nothing to suggest a link between the jabs and heightened risk for blood clots, but in a press conference Tuesday morning, the agency promised to investigate.
Among the more than 11M Italians who have already been vaccinated, Italian authorities have documented at least 15 cases of blood clots and 22 cases of pulmonary embolis among those who have received the jabs.

Greensill Capital Sued in U.S. as Miner Claims Finance Fraud
Greensill Capital was sued by a company that mines coal in West Virginia, in what may be the first U.S. lawsuit since the firm was forced into insolvency.
Greensill’s collapse presents “a clear and present threat” to the business of Bluestone Resources Inc., the mining company said in a complaint filed Monday night in Manhattan federal court. Bluestone claims it was defrauded by Greensill in an $850 million financing deal.
London-based Greensill was left fighting for survival this month as investors cut ties over worries about the creditworthiness of its borrowers, and Credit Suisse Group AG moved to wind down a $10 billion group of supply chain finance funds linked to financier Lex Greensill over valuation concerns. Bluestone said it entered into a long-term financing agreement in which Greensill advanced $850 million. About $108 million of that was paid back in fees, according to Bluestone. Greensill also received warrants entitling it to at least $100 million.
Bluestone claims it was lulled by Greensill into increasing its dependency on the firm while Greensill remained silent about its fraudulent activities elsewhere. Greensill’s insolvency threatens Bluestone’s ability to do business, it said. The company is seeking unspecified damages.
“Greensill Capital’s sudden and unjustified abandonment of Bluestone, together with all of the press surrounding Greensill Capital’s fall, now present a clear and present threat to Bluestone’s business,” according to the lawsuit. “Defendants are responsible for all damages to plaintiffs caused as a result of their egregious actions.”

Will Lloyd Austin stand up to the generals?

In January, when Congress was considering whether to grant the waiver needed for recently retired General Lloyd Austin to become secretary of Defense, politicians and policy wonks on both sides of the aisle expressed concern and reservations about undermining "civilian control of the military." In his preconfirmation correspondence with Congress, Austin's testimony and public comments repeatedly committed to robust civilian control. In fact, during his confirmation hearing, Austin told the Senate Armed Services Committee that "The safety and security of our democracy demand competent civilian control of our armed forces, the subordination of military power to the civil."
Now, only weeks into his tenure, Secretary Austin is considering the reversal of some, or possibly all, of the reforms intended to reaffirm and bolster civilian control of the Tampa, Fla.-based United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) and our nation's elite special operation forces (SOF). Concern about this potential about-face has caused some members of the defense committees to write directly to Austin.
These essential reforms were long overdue and reversing them would send the wrong signal about accountability to civilian leadership. Moreover, this reversal could not come at a worse time. Our elite SOF are currently at a particularly critical juncture after 20 years of continuous conflict. Highly skilled in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency, these forces must sustain those skills while also adapting to changes in our defense strategy and increasing threats from China and Russia. Moreover, they must cope with potential budget cuts and address cultural and behavioral issues that have - in USSOCOM's own words - allowed for "misconduct and unethical behavior."
These are the types of strategic challenges that demand strong civilian leadership. They are distinct from warfighting challenges and rest on the authorities explicitly entrusted to civilians: to set strategy, policy and strategic priorities; to control expenditure of appropriated funds; to speak authoritatively with Congress and the American people about all of the above and more. Despite these demands, Austin faces pressure to wrest power from the senior civilian official charged with these responsibilities and return it to the uniformed leadership at USSOCOM headquarters in Tampa.
The reforms in question, implemented by then Acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller in the final months of the Trump administration, actually originated from a bipartisan consensus reflected in the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act. Signed into law by President Obama, the law mandated changes within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. The changes sought to rebalance the relationship between the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (ASD/SOLIC) and the USSOCOM Commander - the senior civilian and military leaders in the special operations enterprise, respectively. A substantial bipartisan majority recognized that their relationship had slowly but unmistakably transformed as USSOCOM, especially since 9/11. In the three decades since Congress created these organizations (against the Pentagon's will), the uniformed commander gained extraordinary control and independence while ASD/SOLIC endured increasing marginalization and decreasing influence.
Miller's reforms implemented the law. They reinforced the "administrative chain of command" that runs from the Secretary of Defense to ASD/SOLIC to Commander, USSOCOM. Consistent with congressional intent, this firmly established the ASD/SOLIC as the "service secretary" for SOF, responsible to the secretary of Defense and the president for issues beyond warfighting such as strategy, policy, the prioritization of resources, legal accountability, and communication with Congress and the public. These functions' nature and performance are inherently vested in civilian leaders; it flows naturally from the president, the commander-in-chief, to the secretary of Defense and the civilian service secretaries - not uniformed military leadership. While uniformed leadership's advice should inform these decisions, the authoritative direction is ultimately the exclusive province of the politically accountable civilian leadership in the executive and legislative branches of our government.
Former officials, including past USSOCOM commanders, have objected to the reforms on grounds that they were hasty or ill-considered. Others have voiced concerns about policy coordination now that ASD/SOLIC reports directly to the secretary rather than the undersecretary for policy. These concerns are unfounded. The changes needed to conform to the law have been under consideration for years, stymied by a mixture of myopia and hubris in the E-Ring, bureaucratic lethargy, and near irrational deference to our heroic special operators. Moreover, policy development is not isolated in a single office. It is developed and meticulously coordinated across multiple offices and organizations that do not report to the undersecretary for policy. There is no reason why the Miller reforms should impact this process.
Regardless of the causes, Miller knew the statutorily mandated civilian oversight and control had been ignored or severely circumscribed for too long. Informed by his decades of experience as an Army Special Forces officer, a senior official on the NSC, and a stint as Acting ASD(SO/LIC), Miller was determined to follow the law. He had seen the not-so-shiny underside of USSOCOM, which is shrouded in secrecy, and knew these reforms were necessary and overdue.
Now, Secretary Austin faces a clear choice: eliminate the legally mandated Miller reforms and eviscerate civilian control of USSOCOM or stand up to his erstwhile colleagues in the general officer ranks. Will he have the independence and wisdom to reject proposals to weaken civilian oversight of SOF? Will he keep his commitment to Congress to strengthen civilian control of the military and, more importantly, abide by his oath to "support and defend the Constitution" by implementing the law? Or will he abandon his promises and revert to reversing all things Trump, even reforms initiated under President Obama, and cave to the generals? History will be the judge.

Austin eyes rolling back Trump-era policy on special operations

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin is considering undoing his predecessor’s last-minute decision to elevate the top civilian Pentagon official overseeing special operations matters, signaling his intent to continue rolling back the policies of the Trump administration.
Austin is weighing the move as he reassigns the senior official who most recently held that special operations role in the Trump administration, and looks to replace another official who served under Trump's former Pentagon chief.
The initial policy change on special operations, made in December by former acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller, put civilian oversight of America’s commandos on par with the civilian leaders of the military branches. The job had been lower down in the Pentagon’s bureaucracy.
The move was seen as a way to elevate the needs of America's elite special operations forces — Navy SEALs, Army Green Berets, Marine Raiders — which have borne the brunt of the fighting in the Middle East and Afghanistan over the past two decades. It was also designed to increase civilian oversight following the fatal ambush of U.S. special forces in Niger in 2017 and a series of scandals that have plagued the community. Miller is a former Green Beret.
But the move alarmed some experts, who were worried the outgoing defense secretary was tinkering with Pentagon bureaucracy on his way out the door.
Austin is considering lowering the special operations job back into the Pentagon’s policy shop, effectively demoting the position, according to two former Trump officials, one current defense official and a House aide familiar with the move. All of the people requested anonymity to discuss sensitive decisions.
The people expressed concern about the potential reversal, saying Austin was trying to undo Miller’s legacy at the expense of the Pentagon bureaucracy.
The move has the potential to “kneecap” civilian oversight of special operations, as policies would be made through the policy shop without input from the official overseeing the portfolio, one of the people said.
However, one former defense official argued that keeping the job where it is would mean that the civilian overseeing America’s commandos would have “little to no impact” on policy, the person said.
Austin has made no final decisions on the issue, another defense official said. __Congress mandated the establishment of the direct reporting line in the 2017 defense policy bill signed by former President Barack Obama.
A Pentagon spokesperson declined to comment.__
This would mark the latest Trump policy that President Joe Biden’s new administration has reviewed or undone at the Pentagon. Biden reversed Trump’s ban on transgender individuals serving in the military almost immediately after taking office, and froze Trump’s ordered troop drawdowns in Germany, Afghanistan and elsewhere. He also canceled funding for Trump’s border wall, which had been drawn from the military’s coffers.
Meanwhile, Austin is also reassigning the senior Pentagon official who most recently served as the acting Pentagon official overseeing special operations. Joe Tonon, who held that position from December until January, is being moved to a position within the Navy, according to one former official and one current official.
Tonon, a career Navy intelligence official and a civilian, was most recently detailed to the deputy defense secretary's office. He was slated to move temporarily to the Pentagon's defense intelligence office with the expectation that he would ultimately be tapped to lead a new initiative within the department established late in the Trump administration.
He [Tonan] had the job offer in hand, but the day before he was supposed to make the move last week he was informed that he would be reassigned, the people said.
Tonon lost his pay raise and will likely now be "buried" in the Navy, one of the people said.
He assumed the acting role soon after Miller elevated the special operations position. The permanent position is a political one, but the law permits the White House to install a career official in the role on a temporary basis.
"This is really about the new folks coming in and kind of erasing [Miller's] legacy," the person said.
Meanwhile, Austin is looking at replacing Miller's executive secretary, Navy Capt. David Soldow, with a civilian, the second defense official said. Although Soldow was not scheduled to rotate out until this summer, a potential assignment came up and Austin wants to “give him the freedom to pursue that,” the person said.
Others characterized the potential move to reassign the executive secretary ahead of schedule as highly unusual. Two former officials and one current official with knowledge of the move saw it as another sign of Austin's campaign to replace people perceived as loyal to Miller.
The position is typically held by a uniformed officer and is not political.
Soldow signed a memo laying out the Pentagon's response to the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol last month; however, one of the former officials said his reassignment is not linked to the department's response to the insurrection.
Tonon declined to comment on the move. Soldow could not be reached for comment.
The reassignments come just weeks after Austin undertook a sweeping effort to oust last-minute Trump appointments to the defense advisory boards. Austin also halted the in-processing of new members to the panels, effectively preventing a number of Trump acolytes, who were still completing paperwork and undergoing security checks, from actually serving on the boards. That included Trump's 2016 campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and deputy campaign manager David Bossie. Also out is Kash Patel, who was Miller's chief of staff.

WASHINGTON — Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller on Wednesday ordered the Pentagon’s top civilian overseeing the military’s special operations community to report directly to him, effectively elevating U.S. Special Operations Command to the same level of the Pentagon’s military departments.
The change makes the assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low intensity conflict a service secretary-like position responsible for the oversight and advocacy of the military’s special operations forces, said Miller, who is expected to serve in the Defense Department’s top job only about two months.
Miller announced the move during a visit to the Army’s special operations home at Fort Bragg, N.C., his first official visit as defense secretary since he took the job Nov. 9 as former Defense Secretary Mark Esper was fired by President Donald Trump via Twitter.
“This reform will immediately improve agility to the department and the command and will enable us to streamline the information flow, enhance decision-making and more adaptively and adeptly support our commanders and their superb soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines,” Miller said in brief, prepared comments.
Miller said he would prefer to raise the top special operations civilian post to an undersecretary of defense title, but he also said he lacked the authority to do so. Before Wednesday, the person filling that role reported to the defense secretary through the undersecretary of defense for policy, the de facto No. 3 civilian in the Pentagon.
Ezra Cohen-Watnick, a former aide to Trump’s first national security adviser Michael Flynn, is now filling the assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low intensity conflict role on an acting basis. Miller briefly served in that position on a temporary basis earlier this year, as well.
The move on Wednesday aligns the Pentagon with the congressional intent for the top special operations civilian. In the fiscal year 2017 National Defense Authorization Act, lawmakers ordered the Pentagon to raise the assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low intensity conflict to a service secretary-like job and report directly to the defense secretary “for issues impacting the readiness and organization of special operations forces, special operations-peculiar resources and equipment, and civilian personnel management.”
Congress urged the Pentagon to speed up the elevation of the position in its fiscal year 2020 NDAA, the annual law that sets Pentagon policy and spending priorities. Esper told Congress last year that the Defense Department was making progress on the ordered changes.
Miller is a longtime veteran of the special operations community who retired from the Army in 2014 as a colonel. Miller, who was a Green Beret, spent much of his career in the Army’s 5th Special Forces Group, commanding a company and a battalion. He fought in Afghanistan and Iraq as a Green Beret, participating in the initial invasions of both of those countries in 2001 and 2003, respectively.
The policy change comes one day after Miller announce the first major shift for the military under his watch — the hastened withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and Iraq.
Miller announced Tuesday that the United States would remove about half its troops from Afghanistan and about 500 from Iraq by Jan. 15, just five days before President-elect Joe Biden is to be sworn into office. Biden will take over responsibility for those war efforts with 2,500 troops left in Afghanistan and 2,500 troops left in Iraq.
The acting defense secretary said Wednesday that drawing down operations in those nations will allow special operations forces to refocus on their roles in a potential fight with a major power such as China or Russia.
“Right now we start the transition to provide greater civilian oversight of, and critically, advocacy for our special operators,” Miller said. “This couldn't come at a more critical moment in time, as we bring our nation's longest conflicts to a responsible end and prepare special operations forces for this new era of great-power competition.”

3 dead, 1 hurt in small plane crash in Florida neighborhood
A 4-year-old boy who was riding in an SUV with his mother died after a small plane struggling to return to a South Florida airport crashed into them on a residential street, officials said.
The boy, Taylor Bishop, and two people on the plane died in the Monday afternoon crash, which was recorded by a neighbor's security camera, fire officials said. The boy's mother, Megan Bishop, was also injured, but was released from the hospital later Monday, Pembroke Pines Fire Chief Marcel Rodriguez told news outlets. Two people on the plane also died, Rodriguez said. The Beechcraft Bonanza plane had just taken off from North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines and was returning just before 3 p.m., the fire chief said. He said it may have experienced mechanical issues after taking off. "The car literally looks like it's just in half," neighbor Salah Elshaer, who called 911, told WSVN.
"We heard like a bomb, like a tremendous noise, and we went outside, and everything was on fire," another neighbor, Annabel Fernandez, told the television station. Megan Bishop was able to get out of the vehicle and was trying to free Taylor, officials said. Firefighters eventually freed the trapped child, and they were taken to the hospital, where the boy died.

ONTARIO, Calif. (KABC) – A massive explosion ignited multiple structure fires in an Ontario neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a response from emergency personnel and evacuations of the immediate area.
The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 p.m. in the 400 block of West Francis Street, shattering nearby windows and sending a large plume of smoke into the air.
"We are aware of the loud explosion that was heard recently," a brief statement from the city's official Twitter account said, while concerned witnesses flooded social media with photos, videos and speculation in the immediate aftermath. "The Ontario Police Department and the Ontario Fire Department are investigating it. Please stay clear of the area."
Whether anyone was seriously injured was unknown.
Residents as far away as Anaheim and Huntington Beach reported feeling reverberations from the initial explosion.
Several blocks from the scene, footage recorded by a witness showed smoke rising above the fire while the distinctive sound of fireworks exploding was clearly audible. Meanwhile, multiple car alarms that were set off can also be heard.
A later tweet from the city said the fire erupted after "a large amount of fireworks at a house ignited." At least one other home was also burning, along with several outdoor structures on a ranch-like property.
News video from AIR7 HD showed firefighters rescuing a horse that was trapped in an enclosure, with spot fires burning dangerously close by.
Just after 2 p.m., firefighters issued an evacuation order for Francis Street and Maple Avenue Between Fern and San Antonio avenues. A temporary care and reception center was established at the De Anza Community Center, located at 1405 South Fern Avenue in Ontario.
East and westbound traffic on Francis, Maple and Locust streets was shut down between Euclid and San Antonio avenues.

The US State Department's former lead investigator who oversaw the COVID-19 task force into the origins of the virus believes SARS-CoV-2 escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and may have been the product of bioweapons research, according to Fox News.
"The Wuhan Institute of Virology is not the National Institute of Health," David Asher - now a senior fellow at the Hudson institute - told Fox News in an interview, adding: "It was operating a secret, classified program. In my view, and I’m just one person, my view is it was a biological weapons program."
Asher has long been a "follow the money" guy who has worked on some of the most classified intelligence investigations for the State Department and Treasury under both Democratic and Republican administrations. He led the team that uncovered the international nuclear procurement network run by the father of Pakistan's nuclear program, AQ Khan, and uncovered key parts of North Korea's secret uranium enrichment. He believes the Chinese Communist Party has been involved in a massive cover-up during the past 14 months. -Fox News
"And if you believe, as I do, that this might have been a weapons vector gone awry, not deliberately released, but in development and then somehow leaked, this has turned out to be the greatest weapon in history," Asher told a Hudson Institute panel discussing the origins of the pandemic. According to Asher - who interfaced with the Chinese government as the State Department's lead representative during the 2003 SARS outbreak - the CCP's behavior surrounding COVID-19 reminds him of criminal investigations he's overseen.

I mean, they made a public statement to their people that this is a new priority under the Xi national security policy," according to Asher.
When China began funding research at the WIV in 2017, they stopped talking about their research into COVID "disease vectors which could be used for weapons."
"I doubt that's a coincidence," said Asher.
According to State Department official Miles Yu, who co-wrote a recent WSJ op-ed with former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo about the virus' origins, "China has been involved in this type of virus research since 2003, the SARS outbreak," adding "China's biosafety standard is really low and is very dangerous. So this is an accident waiting to happen."

The military regime has seized control of the bank accounts of billionaire George Soros’ Open Society Foundation (OSF) in Myanmar and announced that it will take legal action against the foundation, which is accused of violating restrictions on the activities of such organizations.
On Monday, military-controlled MRTV announced that the military had issued arrest warrants for 11 staff members of OSF Myanmar, including its head and deputy head, on suspicion of giving financial support to the civil disobedience movement against the military junta.
The regime also claimed that the world’s largest private funder for justice, democratic governance and human rights had failed to obtain approval from the Central Bank of Myanmar (CBM)’s Foreign Exchange Management Department for a deposit of US$5 million (7.04 billion kyats) with the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank (SMED) in Myanmar in 2018.
The foundation is also accused of illegally withdrawing $1.4 million from its account at SMED a week after the military takeover in Myanmar, as the civil disobedience movement was gaining momentum among civil servants across the country.

So guess there WAS a Tornado close to me yesterday. Problem here w/ our sirens and warnings is that.. I BELIEVE it is what the people spot, and turn in, as in call to the weather service or Police and then from there they get it to where it needs to go and the sirens come on.
Problem is my place is hard to hear outside in, you CAN but it must be LOUD and during a storm w/ sirens, it is VERY hard to hear them. It was my phone and the weather alert that actually FIRMED it to me there was an issue. Otherwise I would have slept through it (was the nabbening)
So anyway would be 2nd time in 10yrs that one was overhead (as in went over me or close) that we just did not get the warning in early enough time.
That is what I was trying to say, that the way it goes from SPOTTING > REPORTING > Weather Center Notified > to alerts going out is as good as it can be.. ie someone has to see it and report it for something to habben.. so you just hope someone sees it early enough.
