Press Statement
The Multiparty General Election of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was held on 8 November 2020 under the supervision of the Union Election Commission (UEC). There were reportedly some irregularities throughout the process of the Election.
In scrutinizing the official voter list issued by the UEC, the findings showed that over 10.4 million votes,about one fourth of eligible voters, might have caused vote rigging in the 2020 Multiparty General Election. The Tatmadaw has officially issued figures/tables on those findings for 30 times, statements on its positiontwo times before the Election andfour times after the Election. As there were irregularities in the electoral processes, 20 political parties issued 26 statements calling for the postponement of the Third Hluttaw Session until the voter lists in questionare properlysolved by the UEC. The UEC’s failure to address to these calls resulted in 124 protests in 99 townships during the period between 10 November 2020 to 29 January 2021.
Furthermore, on 11 January 2021, some 203 Hluttaw Representatives from the Tatmadaw and political parties officially proposed to convene a Special Session of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw in accord with the Constitution of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (2008). The proposalwas rejected the next day. With the intention of accepting the credible election results that truly reflect the will of the people, the Tatmadaw and some political parties requested the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw or the Government or the UEC itself to address the voting irregularity issues. The Tatmadaw also called for the meeting of the National Defence and Security Council led by the President. The Tatmadaw undertook the above-mentioned tasks in accord with existing laws and procedures, including the State Constitution 2008, particularly Chapter I, Section 4, Section 6 and Section 7 of the Constitution. The Section 4 stipulates that “The Sovereign power of the Union is derived from the citizens and is in force in the entire country”. Amongst the six Basic Principles of the Constitution, Section 6 (d) stipulates “flourishing of a genuine, disciplined multi-party democratic system”and Section 6 (f) mentions “enabling the Defence Services to be able to participate in the national political leadership role of the State”. In addition, Section 7 also stipulates that “The Union practises genuine, disciplined multi-party democratic system”.
The rejection of the previous Government to take action on repeated calls to addressvoting irregularities and frauds and to postpone the new Hluttaw meetings clearly violated Section417 of the State Constitution 2008 that tantamount to the attempt to take the sovereignty of the Union by wrongful forcible means and to disintegrate national solidarity. Therefore, the Ordinance No. 1/2021 on 1 February 2021 was promulgated in accordance with Section 417 of the State Constitution 2008. The state of emergency was declared in the entire nation for one year with immediate effect and the “legislative, executive and judicial powers” of the State were transferred to the Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services in accord with Section 418 (a) of the State Constitution.
Even in mature democracies, there have been incidents of electoral irregularities which are properly resolved. The negligenceto fix the electoral irregularities would set precedence and cause negative impact on Myanmar’s democratic practices in the long term. In light of such circumstances, the Tatmadaw was compelled to take State responsibilities in line with the State Constitution 2008. The Tatmadaw will continue to abide by the provisions of the State Constitution, practise the genuine and discipline-flourishing multi-party democracy which suitsthe prevailing situations of the country, hold free and fair general election and transfer State responsibilities to the winning political party.

I get that open conflict/war would cost far more lives (the fabled "Plan Z"), but I think it's interesting to note there have been no shortage of people thinking that would've been the way to go considering where we currently are. President Biden has promised to unify the nation. But candidate Joe Biden also made campaign promises to the radical wing of his party that would widen our social divides. Guess which promises are being honored.
Witness the so-called Equality Act, which candidate Biden vowed to make a priority and which is set to be voted on by the House this week. What’s the Equality Act? And who could be against equality? Don’t let the name fool you.
The act “updates” the law Congress passed primarily to combat racism, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and adds sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes akin to race. So if you have any reservations about gender ideology — as even many progressives do; just ask J.K. Rowling — you’d now be the legal equivalent of Bull Connor.
Rather than finding common-sense, narrowly tailored ways to shield LGBT-identifying Americans from truly unjust discrimination, the bill would act as a sword — to persecute those who don’t embrace newfangled gender ideologies. It would vitiate a sex binary that is quite literally written into our genetic code and is fundamental to many of our laws, not least laws protecting the equality, safety and privacy of women.
The Equality Act would sacrifice the hard-won rights of women, while privileging men who identify as women. If it becomes law, such men would have a right to spend the night in battered-women’s shelters, disrobe in women’s locker rooms and compete on women’s sports teams — even at K-12 schools.
Don’t believe me? Here’s the text: “An individual shall not be denied access to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual’s gender identity.” So you can keep separate facilities for men and women, but you have to redefine what men and women are. Likewise, you can reserve certain jobs only for men or women — think TSA agents doing pat-downs — but you have to let a man who identifies as a woman do strip searches on women.

Religious institutions are very much included. Under the Equality Act, religious schools, adoption agencies and other charities would face federal sanction for upholding the teachings of mainstream biology and the Bible, modern genetics and Genesis, when it comes to sex and marriage.
They’ll be at risk, because the Equality Act takes our laws on racial equality and adds highly ideological concepts about sex and gender. But most laws on racism included no religious-liberty protections — unlike, for example Title IX, which includes robust protections for faith-based schools.
Outrageously, the Equality Act explicitly exempts itself from the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Pope Francis would be treated as the legal equivalent of a Jim Crow segregationist.
It gets worse. Medical doctors, secular and religious, whose expert judgment is that sex-reassignment procedures are misguided would now run afoul of our civil-rights laws. If you perform a mastectomy in the case of breast cancer, you will have to perform one on the teenage girl identifying as a boy. All in the name of equality. And no one knows what is required under the act to avoid committing “discrimination” in the case of “nonbinary” gender identities.
The icing on the cake? The act treats any refusal to offer abortion as “pregnancy” discrimination. Decades of conscience protections against abortion extremism at the federal, state and local levels would be undermined.
These threats to our society are just a few reasons why the Orwellian Equality Act should be rejected. To heal and unify the nation on LGBT issues, we must reject unjust discrimination without treating reasonable judgments as discriminatory.

A German Member of Parliament was attacked on the street by 20 violent Antifa thugs on Saturday and government truth commissions now want to censor online news content.

While Braun managed to escape unharmed, Schwarz was pummeled to the ground with clubs and metal rods and had to be hospitalized. The 80-year-old man was clubbed as well. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co said it would buy Cooper Tire & Rubber Co in a $2.8 billion deal to beef up its portfolio in the high-margin light truck and SUV segments and strengthen its presence in North America and China. Shares of Cooper, which has historically had stronger margins than Goodyear, surged 20% in premarket trade while Goodyear stock down 4%.
The deal, announced on Monday, nearly doubles Goodyear’s presence in China and broadens distribution for Cooper replacement tires through Goodyear’s network of 2,500 retail stores in the country. U.S. and China, the two largest tire markets in the world, account for about one-third of global industry volume.
The combined company will also benefit from Goodyear’s original equipment and Cooper’s strength in the rapidly growing light truck and SUV product segments. The global tire industry was hard hit in 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic led to a sharp decline in demand for replacement tires and original equipment, forcing automakers to halt production.
However, industry experts expect a rebound in auto demand this year, fueled by the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, record low interest rates and healthy consumer savings as people held off spending money on large purchases during the pandemic. Under the terms of the deal, the implied cash and stock consideration for Cooper shareholders is $54.36 per share, representing a premium of 24% to its closing price on February 19.

Separately, Cooper reported a nearly 3% fall in quarterly revenue, while net income attributable to the company fell 25.8% to $37.99 million the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31.
Lazard is serving as lead financial advisor for Goodyear while Goldman Sachs & Co LLC is advising Cooper.

Brazilian financial markets went into a tailspin on Monday, as investors dumped the country’s currency and stocks, while pushing up interest rates, after President Jair Bolsonaro moved late on Friday to sack the head of state-run oil firm Petrobras after weeks of clashes over fuel price hikes.
The right-wing populist’s intervention in one of Brazil’s most valuable companies, along with a vow to reduce prices in the power sector too, cast growing concern on the government’s commitment to free markets.
Several brokerages downgraded Petroleo Brasileiro SA, as Petrobras is formally known, and Bank of America cut Brazilian stocks to ‘marketweight’ in its Latin American portfolio, excluding Petrobras and state power company Eletrobras entirely.
“Today is a pretty ugly day,” said a hedge fund trader in Sao Paulo. “The big concern now is if Bolsonaro’s decisions are going to be limited to public companies, or if he is going to spend more without reforms.”
Petrobras preferred shares and common shares both plunged around 20% in early trading on Monday, wiping more than 60 billion reais ($11 billion) off the company’s value. Some 28 billion reais was wiped off the firm’s value on Friday.

U.N. Chief Guterres Warns ‘White Supremacy’ Is a ‘Transnational Threat,’

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned Monday the combination of “white supremacy” and neo-Nazi movements makes for a “transnational threat” through their manipulation of the responses to the global coronavirus pandemic.
Reuters reports Guterres, a former Socialist Party prime minister in his native Portugal, used an address to the U.N. Human Rights Council to call for a global coordinated crackdown:
“White supremacy and neo-Nazi movements are more than domestic terror threats,” the veteran left-wing diplomat said. “They are becoming a transnational threat. Today, these extremist movements represent the number one internal security threat in several countries.”
Without offering any examples of countries he believes are facing this exisential threat, Guterres called for international action to defeat the dangers as part of his long-standing commitment to “more robust global governance.”
“Far too often, these hate groups are cheered on by people in positions of responsibility in ways that were considered unimaginable not long ago,” Guterres said. “We need global coordinated action to defeat this grave and growing danger.”
Guterres pointed to governments and health authorities who used “heavy-handed security responses and emergency measures to crush dissent.”
“At times, access to life-saving COVID-19 information has been concealed – while deadly misinformation has been amplified – including by those in power,” he said.
Guterres warned about the power of digital platforms and the use and abuse of data.
“I urge all Member States to place human rights at the centre of regulatory frameworks and legislation on the development and use of digital technologies,” he said. “We need a safe, equitable and open digital future that does not infringe on privacy or dignity.”
This is not the first time Guterres has used the backdrop of international turmoil to offer commentary on world affairs.
As Breitbart News reported, last year he said the world needs an overarching level of multilateral governance that can sideline problematic “national interests.”
He claimed in the 21st century, governments are no longer the only political and power reality, adding “we need an effective multilateralism that can function as an instrument of global governance where it is needed.”
Guterres was prime minister of Portugal from 1995 to 2002 and secretary-general of the Portuguese Socialist Party from 1992 to 2002.
The 72-year-old career politician served as president of the Socialist International from 1999 to 2005 before moving on to the United Nations.

Myanmar junta faces 'largest' protest after warning of crackdown
Widespread demonstrations took place against the military in Myanmar on Monday, after a general strike was called on social media, with factories and supermarkets closed, as witnesses said the protest was the largest since the Feb. 1 coup. A 30-year-old sales manager who protested in Yangon said, "Today's protest is the biggest protest that I have ever seen in my life." Crowds gathered on main Yangon streets, defying the junta ban on protests. Riot police were deployed around the U.S. and Chinese embassies and United Nation offices, where many demonstrations were taking place. On Saturday, security forces opened fire to disperse crowds in Mandalay, the second largest city, killing two protesters.
Activists had agitated for a major protest on Monday to mourn the dead, calling the marches the "22222 revolution," referring to the number of twos in the date, Feb. 22, 2021. The number is also an allusion to 8888 Aug. 8, 1988 when a pro-democracy uprising ended in a bloodbath. On Saturday, security forces opened fire to disperse crowds in Mandalay, the second largest city, killing two protesters. The head of a local subsidiary of a Japanese company that operates a garment factory in Yangon said, "Many of our employees said they would take a day off. We didn't know what would happen, so we decided to close the factory." Many are indeed responding to the calls for civil disobedience. Mon Mon, a 35-year-old protester said, "In 1988, I was just 3 years old. I also saw the democratic movement in 2007, but I didn't participate because I wasn't interested. But now I'm here because I can't accept this injustice… I feel it is my duty to take part in this protest. If I were not here, I would feel guilty." There is also a sense of solidarity among protesters. "We are now guarding the students' rally, for their safety. We don't want any harm done to them – lives matter," said Linn Mg Mg Swe, a 25-year-old student and biker. He said, "The generations are different. I think 22222 is better than the 8888 uprising as we have better strategies… We will win this revolution. Today will be historic."
The military warned on Sunday via state television that protesters were leading people, especially emotional teenagers and youths, down a "confrontation path where they will suffer loss of life." Conscious that the country could again face sanctions from the West, the junta has held back on a more severe crackdown so far, particularly in Yangon, where there is a bigger presence of diplomats and foreign media.
On Monday, the foreign ministers of the European Union member states met in Brussels and said they were preparing to sanction those responsible for the coup. The EU urged the junta to immediately release Aung San Suu Kyi and other detainees. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said before the meeting that the bloc would not be a bystander to the unfolding events. He said, "As a last resort, [we will] prepare sanctions on the military." The sanction that will have the greatest impact on Myanmar is the freezing of preferential tariff treatment. The U.S. and the EU have granted preferential treatment to Myanmar to support the democratization of the country and boost its fledgling economy. As a result, Myanmar exports more than half of its textile products to the EU market.
Meanwhile, China's ambassador to Myanmar, Chen Hai, said in local media that the current political situation was "absolutely not what China wants to see," dismissing rumors that Beijing was given prior warning about the coup.

The Treasury said recently it would halve its extraordinarily large balance at the so-called Treasury General Account (TGA) by April and cut it to $500 billion by the end of June. The U.S. government runs most of its day-to-day business through the TGA - managed by the New York Fed and into which flow tax receipts and proceeds from the sale of Treasury debt.
When citizens or businesses receives a government cheque, they deposit it at their commercial bank, which presents it to the Fed. The Fed then debits the Treasury’s account and credits the bank’s account at the Fed - increasing its reserve balance.
The TGA sits on the Fed’s balance sheet as a liability, along with notes, coins and bank reserves.
But the Fed’s liabilities must match its assets. So a drop in the TGA must see a rise in bank reserves and vice versa. Last year’s reserves drain was masked by the Fed’s $3 trillion in asset purchases.
But when cash flows leaves the TGA, bank reserves rise - potentially increasing lending or investment in the wider economy or markets.
That’s why the government usually keeps TGA balances low. Today’s balance is more than four times year ago-levels. In the past four years, it has rarely surpassed $400 billion and prior to 2016, it never exceeded $251 billion. The TGA balance soared in 2020 because the Treasury ramped up borrowing to pay for an expected $1 trillion-plus in pandemic relief. But as stimulus was approved only in December, the accumulated monies were not all spent.
This year, it plans to run down the balance, slashing first-quarter borrowing plans to a quarter of initial estimates .
That may send what Credit Suisse dubbed a “tsunami” of cash into depositary bank reserves.
What’s more, less Treasury borrowing is seen impacting its main funding avenue of recent years - T-bills and cash management bills, cash-like securities banks use as collateral for repo borrowing and hedging derivative trades. Even before the TGA rundown, U.S. banks are awash with cash. The Fed is buying securities worth $120 billion from them each month, aggregate household savings are $1 trillion above pre-COVID levels, and money-market funds are brimming, with assets $700 billion above pre-pandemic levels.
In short, the M2 money supply aggregate is growing at an annual 26% rate.

Justice Clarence Thomas is a national treasure and should be treated as such. On Monday morning, the Supreme Court denied a lawsuit about election integrity and fraud from the state of Pennsylvania. Three Justices dissented. Justices Alito, Gorsuch, and Thomas all disagreed with the denial to hear the case which had implications for the 2020 presidential elections.
Clarence Thomas doesn’t speak often, but when he does he carries a very big stick. On Monday morning, he broke out that stick and obliterated the attorney general from the State of Pennsylvania among others.
