New York City's largest pension funds have voted to divest their portfolios of an estimated $4 billion from securities related to fossil fuel companies, Mayor Bill de Blasio, Comptroller Scott Stringer, and trustees of two of the city's pension funds said.

Italian PM Giuseppe Conte Close To Resigning, Reports Local Media
Italy’s Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is close to stepping down from his post to make way for the formation of a new government with a greater majority, reported local media outlet on January 25. The La Repubblica newspaper cited Conte as saying, “My aim is to find an agreement that gives a clear political perspective to the government until the end of the term”. This came after Conte had survived a vote in Italian Senate last week and urged the centrist or unaligned lawmakers outside the coalition to join hands with his minority government. However, only handful members have responded.
Italian PM’s minority government was engulfed in chaos after a junior partner, the Italia Viva party headed by former premier Matteo Renzi resigned from the cabinet in a row over the handling of COVID-19 pandemic. Even though Conte survived a subsequent confidence vote in parliament on January 19, he remained unsuccessful in securing an absolute majority in the Senate. This implies that Italian PM will struggle in order to enact any policy agenda unless he draws new support. The crisis began with former Italian PM Matteo Renzi reportedly orchestrating the resignations of two ministers from his small but influential Italia Viva party. It was also not the first time Renzi shook Italy’s politics after becoming premier in 2014 by out-manoeuvring and unceremoniously deposing then-Democratic Party member Enrico Letta as Italy's leader. Eventually, Renzi fell from power nearly three years later after gambling his popularity on a constitutional referendum. However, now, the former Florence mayor might bring down Conte who Renzi has broadly accused of not properly managing the global health crisis. While Renzi has reportedly said that he is only following his conscience, it comes at a great political cost for the nation. He has even asserted at a press conference earlier this month, "Italia Viva did not start the crisis. It has been going on for months".
However, with Renzi suspending support for Conte and resignation of two Italia Viva ministers, Italian PM is working to steer support among the independent lawmakers. Conte still has the backing of the Democratic Party and the 5-Star Movement, both have instead denounced Renzi’s approach as irresponsible. Since he failed to secure enough backing in Senate, Conte is reportedly likely to submit his resignation to Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
This would push the nation under a technical government. As per reports, a general election in Italy is unlikely and the current majority would like to hold on at least January 2022. However, there are still concerns that the right-wing opposition would gain strength and lead a new government.

RUDY BRINGS THE FIRE: Giuliani Responds to $1.3 Billion Dominion Lawsuit AND IT’S EPIC
As reported earlier by Cassandra Fairbanks — Dominion Voting Systems filed a massive $1.3 billion lawsuit against former New York City Mayor and Trump Attorney Rudy Giuliani.
The controversial company filed a lawsuit for the same amount against pro-Trump attorney Sidney Powell, who has also been fighting tooth and nail against election fraud, earlier this month.
Dominion’s director of product strategy and security, Eric Coomer, also filed a lawsuit in December against President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, Giuliani, Powell, Newsmax, One America News Network, OANN reporter Chanel Rion, Michelle Malkin, and others that he has accused of civil conspiracy and the intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The 107 page lawsuit against Giuliani was filed in the Federal District Court in Washington, D.C., on Monday morning.
Dominion claims that allegations of election fraud were “demonstrably false.” It also brought up the protest at the Capitol on January 6 for some reason. In fact their announcement to attack Rudy Giuliani reads like something from a far-left publication.
Later this morning Rudy Giuliani responded to the Dominion Voting Systems announcement.
Rudy says he looks forward to investigating their history, finances and practices fully and completely.

HSI, Australian Federal Police identify 245 victims of child exploitation by predator posing as popular YouTube star
WASHINGTON — An investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old Australian citizen who is now facing a total of 247 charges related to 245 alleged child victims in the United States.
In 2019, HSI special agents in Tallahassee, Florida, received information from the Leon County (Florida) Sheriff's Office (LCSO) regarding the exploitation of minors throughout the U.S. by an individual in Australia. The individual was masquerading as a popular YouTube star in order to befriend minor females and gain their trust. He then blackmailed the minor victims and instructed them to film themselves doing various sexually explicit acts, many of which involved physical contact with other minors and/or animals.
HSI reached out to the AFP to help identify the predator in Australia. With the assistance of Western Australia Police (WAPOL), AFP quickly identified the subject in Western Australia and initiated Operation ESK. HSI Canberra provided support to Operation ESK by obtaining subscriber details from YouTube for the offender, and both the previous and potential victims. Forensic examination of the subject’s social media account led to the identification in October 2020 of 112 U.S. victims of online child exploitation and upon continued investigation an additional 134 by January 2021. The subject was arrested by AFP and is currently in custody.
“Child exploitation is a heinous crime that is happening far too often on social media sites used by our children,” said HSI Regional Attaché for Oceania, Adam Parks. “These investigations will continue to be our top priority to ensure that children around the world are protected from sexual predators. Thanks to our close partnership with the Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police, we were able to identify this predator and protect future children from falling victim to this monster.”
Operation ESK is a joint investigation between HSI Canberra, AFP, and WAPOL, with assistance from HSI Tallahassee, LCSO, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

One of HSI’s top priorities is to protect the public from crimes of victimization, and HSI’s child exploitation investigations program is a central component of this mission set. Mexican president contracts COVID-19 after worst week of pandemic
Mexico’s President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Sunday he had tested positive for COVID-19 amid the country’s deadliest week yet in the coronavirus pandemic, which has pushed the health system of the Mexican capital to its limits. Citadel and Point72 Asset Management will invest $2.75 billion in Gabe Plotkin’s Melvin Capital.
Citadel’s funds and firm partners will invest $2 billion, according to the firm, while Point72’s investment will be $750 million.

The FBI arrested an Omaha man for his actions during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Brandon Straka, 44, was arrested Monday by agents from the FBI Omaha Field Office, according to a report from the FBI.
Straka faces charges of impeding a law enforcement officer during civil disorder, knowingly entering and remaining on restricted grounds without lawful authority and/or engaging in disorderly conduct within proximity to a restricted building to impede official functions and engaging in disorderly conduct with intent to disturb a hearing before Congress.
Court documents show that officials were tipped off about Straka posting a video near the Capitol entrance, shouting "go, go!" The video was later removed and officials said they could not find any video or posts on his Twitter page relating to his actions at the Capitol.
However, the FBI was sent multiple screenshots. These screenshots reportedly revealed that Straka made the following comments on Twitter on Jan. 6.:
“Patriots at the Capitol – HOLD. THE. LINE!!!!”
“I arrived at the Capitol a few hours ago as Patriots were storming from all sides. I was quite close to entering myself as police began tear-gassing us from the door. I inhaled tear gas & got it in my eyes. Patriots began exiting shortly after saying Congress had been cleared.”
“I’m completely confused. For 6-8 weeks everybody on the right has been saying ‘1776!’ & that if congress moves forward it will mean a revolution! So congress moves forward. Patriots storm the Capitol – now everybody is virtual signaling their embarrassment that this happened.”
“Also- be embarrassed & hide if you need to- but I was there. It was not Antifa at the Capitol. It was freedom loving Patriots who were DESPERATE to fight for the final hope of our Republic because literally nobody cares about them. Everyone else can denounce them. I will not.”
“Perhaps I missed the part where it was agreed this would be a revolution of ice cream cones & hair-braiding parties to take our government back from lying, cheating globally interested swamp parasites. My bad.”

FBI agents arrested ‘Walkaway’ founder Brandon Straka on Monday for his ‘actions’ at the US Capitol on January 6.
The ‘WalkAway’ campaign began on Facebook in the summer of 2018 after Straka, a handsome, gay hairdresser from New York posted a video explaining why he was walking away from the Democrat party.
The Walkaway movement attracted tens of thousands of people, making Straka a target of the Marxist left.
Straka, 44, was taken into custody on Monday by agents from the FBI Omaha Field Office and faces charges of impeding a law enforcement officer during civil disorder, knowingly entering and remaining on restricted grounds without lawful authority and/or engaging in disorderly conduct within proximity to a restricted building to impede official functions and engaging in disorderly conduct with intent to disturb a hearing before Congress.

Leon Black is stepping down as CEO of Apollo Global Management following an internal probe into his ties to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, the company said Monday. The monthslong probe, conducted by law firm Dechert, found no evidence that Black engaged in any of Epstein’s alleged criminal activities but determined that he paid Epstein $148 million in advisory fees and donated $10 million to Epstein’s charity — amounts greater than had been previously disclosed.
Black will remain Apollo’s chairman. Marc Rowan — who last year left the firm he founded with Black and Josh Harris to run his personal investments — will return as CEO, Apollo said.
Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting and procuring a minor for prostitution. He was rearrested in 2019 for sex trafficking following scrutiny of a 2007 nonprosecution agreement he signed with federal authorities in Florida that involved a wider probe into his dealings with underage girls. He died while in prison from an apparent suicide. “I am extraordinarily proud of what my partners and I have built at Apollo over the past 30 years,” Black said in a statement. “This is a decision I have been considering for several years.”
The Post reported exclusively in July 2019 that Black’s family charity had kept Epstein as a director for four years after Epstein’s 2008 guilty plea. Black later admitted that he kept Epstein around to provide estate planning and tax advice. Black remains chairman of the Museum of Modern Art, which has so far stuck behind the major art buyer and donor.

Lin Wood fired by Nicholas Sandmann
A Kentucky teenager whose 2019 face-off with a Native American activist in Washington went viral has fired his lawyer, a man who played a key role in Donald Trump's attempts to overturn his election defeat, according to court notices filed on Monday.
The teen, Nicholas Sandmann, terminated lawyer L. Lin Wood from the team representing him in a series of lawsuits that accuse media companies like The New York Times Inc and CBS News Inc of inaccurately portraying the stand-off at the Lincoln Memorial on the day of a large anti-abortion protest.
"I have ended my lawyer-client relationship with Mr. Wood and no longer wish to be represented by him," Sandmann said in an affidavit included in the court filings.
Sandmann continues to be represented by Kentucky-based lawyer Todd McMurtry.
Wood did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In a statement shared on the Telegram app on Sunday, Wood said he expected Sandmann would "abandon" him because of earlier social media posts in which Wood suggested former Vice President Mike Pence engaged in "treason" and could "face execution by firing squad" for formally recognizing the election victory of President Joe Biden.
Wood said in the Telegram post that his comments about Pence were "rhetorical hyperbole."
Sandmann, 18, expressed alarm at Wood's comments earlier this month. On Twitter, the teen shared one of Wood's social media posts about Pence and wrote: "I'm sorry but what the hell."
The move is the latest indication that those who supported former President Donald Trump's baseless claim that his loss to Biden was the result of mass fraud could face longer term professional consequences.
A Delaware state judge this month blocked Wood from representing former Trump adviser Carter Page in a defamation lawsuit, saying that his conduct in election-related lawsuits "exhibited a toxic stew of mendacity, prevarication and surprising incompetence."
Sandmann's face-off with Native American activist Nathan Phillips in January 2019 was captured on video and shared on social media, generating widespread media coverage.
Sandmann's family has lawsuits pending against the New York Times, CBS, ABC News Inc, Rolling Stone LLC, and others. Reuters is not a defendant in the litigation.
The lawsuits alleged that because Sandmann wore a hat emblazoned with Trump's 'Make American Great Again' slogan, media outlets inaccurately suggested he was the face of an unruly mob.
In court filings, the media outlets have denied defaming Sandmann in their coverage.
Sandmann settled similar lawsuits against CNN and the Washington Post last year for undisclosed amounts.
Sandmann spoke at the Republican National Convention in August, endorsing Trump and accusing the media of advancing an "anti-Christian, anti-conservative, anti-Donald Trump narrative."
The teen's relationship with Wood appeared to sour as the attorney filed unsuccessful lawsuits seeking to overturn Biden's victory and baselessly accused Pence and Supreme Court Justice John Roberts of treason and corruption.
Separately on Monday, a U.S. voting machine company filed a $1.3 billion lawsuit against Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani, accusing him of defamation in what it called his "big lie" campaign about widespread fraud in the presidential election.

Rudy Giuliani criticized the $1.3 billion lawsuit filed against him by Dominion, calling it “another act of intimidation by the hate-filled left.”
On Monday, Dominion Voting Systems filed the suit in a federal D.C. court, accusing Giuliani of spreading false allegations of voter fraud. In a statement soon after, Giuliani said the cost of the the lawsuit is to “frighten people of faint heart.”
However, President Trump’s attorney took the suit in stride, saying it will allow him to investigate the company’s history, finances and practices fully.
“We get to see the machines that are crooked, the ballots that are fraudulent, and if we’re wrong, we will be made fools of,” Giuliani said. “But if we’re right, a lot of them will go to jail. So, let’s have a trial by combat.”
Giuliani said he will be filing a countersuit against Dominion for violating the Constitutional right to free speech and the ability of lawyers to defend their clients vigorously.
For months, Giuliani has accused Dominion of swinging votes in favor of Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
“We believe from what we saw in Michigan that the machines have an inaccurate vote, that they’re programmed to give Biden somewhere between a 2% and 5% advantage,” Giuliani stated.
Dominion has been targeting allies of President Trump with legal action following the election. However, the company said it is still weighing whether to sue President Trump himself.

U.S. bankruptcy judge okays Weinstein Co plan paying $17 million for sex abuse claims
A U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge on Monday approved The Weinstein Co’s liquidation plan, which sets aside $17 million for women who accused co-founder Harvey Weinstein of sexual misconduct. Judge Mary Walrath in Wilmington, Delaware announced her ruling at the conclusion of a remote hearing. She overruled an objection from a handful of women who are looking to pursue appeals of their claims outside of bankruptcy court. She noted that 83% of sexual misconduct claimants in the bankruptcy “have expressed very loudly that they want closure through acceptance of this plan, that they do not seek to have to go through any further litigation in order to receive some recovery, some possible recompense … although it’s clear that money will never give them that.”
The Weinstein Co sold its assets to Lantern Entertainment, which later became Spyglass Media Group, for $289 million after it filed for bankruptcy in 2018. The bankruptcy was precipitated by widespread claims of sexual misconduct against company founder Harvey Weinstein, who is serving a 23-year prison term after being convicted of sexually assaulting a former production assistant and raping an actress. Insurers have contributed $35 million under the plan, so holders of sexual misconduct claims will get almost half of that. The Weinstein Co’s lawyers say the women who filed the claims could each see six-figure recoveries. They will have the option to forgo most of their payout under the plan if they want to continue pursuing their claims against Harvey Weinstein and former officers and directors of the company.
A group of women with sexual abuse claims argued that the choice between a full payout and continuing to pursue their claims was unfair. But lawyers for the company and an unsecured creditors’ committee, which includes women who filed sexual misconduct claims, say those releases for former officers and directors are a key component of the plan. A lawyer for the company, Paul Zumbro of Cravath Swaine & Moore, said during the hearing that the plan is “remarkable” and a “favorable closure of this really ugly story.”

Ten Months after Stepping Down as Fed Chair, Janet Yellen Became Part of the “Leadership” Team for Forums Tied to the Chinese Communist Party
Former Fed Chair and Treasury Secretary nominee Janet Yellen has failed to report the details of millions of dollars in fees that she earned in 2018, the year she stepped down as Fed Chair, as she went on a whirlwind of speaking engagements in foreign cities around the world. Yellen’s “leadership” role with the Bloomberg New Economy Forums which had the “active participation and support” of an organization openly tied to the Chinese Communist Party, raises further serious red flags. And yet, Yellen sailed through her Senate Finance Committee confirmation hearing this past week, gaining a favorable vote of 26-0. A full Senate vote to confirm Yellen as Treasury Secretary is expected to occur tomorrow.

What Yellen did disclose on her Office of Government Ethics financial disclosure form showed that in 2019 and 2020 she made a cash haul of more than $7 million in speaking fees, the majority of which came from Wall Street trading houses, mega banks and hedge funds. Yellen stepped down as Chair of the Fed on February 3, 2018. Over the next 10 months, in addition to her foreign gigs, Yellen also appeared at numerous stateside paid engagements for Wall Street firms like JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, and Jefferies. She has failed to make public the transcripts of her speeches at these events or the specific amounts she was paid. After the news broke of Yellen’s $7 million haul, Senior Reporter Jesse Eisinger of ProPublica Tweeted: “Deeply troubling two-fisted money grab from banks by Janet Yellen. This is corruption, but isn’t called that because it’s so quotidian.” Eisinger also noted: “Sure, Yellen might think she can make independent decisions once in office. But how arrogant is it to imagine that money corrupts everyone but you?” Many of the banks Yellen accepted cash windfalls from were regulated by the Fed prior to her departure. These banks are also recidivist lawbreakers. JPMorgan Chase has been charged with, and admitted to, five criminal felony counts brought by the U.S. Department of Justice while it was being supervised by the Fed. The public deserves to know how much Yellen received from JPMorgan Chase in the year after she left the Fed. Citigroup, a smaller bank than JPMorgan Chase, paid Yellen over $990,000 in 2019 and 2020, according to her financial disclosure form. Citigroup received the largest Fed bailout in global banking history following the Wall Street crash of 2008.
We have learned that Yellen didn’t even come clean with the abbreviated information she did provide to the Office of Government Ethics. For example, Yellen was a speaker at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore in 2018; appeared virtually at the event in 2020; and was a member of its Advisory Board. The Office of Government Ethics asks nominees to list “Employment Agreements and Arrangements.” There is no mention of her role on the Advisory Board of the Bloomberg New Economy Forum or any speaking fees she may have collected to speak at its 2018 and 2020 events. (Considering that Yellen charged the Texas Christian University $135,000 to speak in March of 2019, it seems highly unlikely Yellen would travel 9600 miles to Singapore for a billionaire’s event on a pro bono basis.)
One of the Co-Chairs of the Advisory Board for the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in 2018 was Zeng Peiyan, the former Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. That Forum opened on November 6, 2018 in Singapore with a Keynote Address from Wang Qishan, the Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, according to a program brochure for the event. The billionaire founder of the New Economy Forum, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, gave the opening welcome remarks. Bloomberg ridiculously gushed over Wang Qishan, saying: “Today he is the most influential political figure in China and in the world” – “in the world” being the operative phrase.

The founders of Apollo Global Management, one of the world’s biggest private equity firms, engaged in a brief power struggle this weekend over control of the firm, a rift that opened up after an inquiry revealed that one founder — Apollo’s chief executive and chairman, Leon Black — had paid more than $150 million to the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
On Monday, Mr. Black announced his plan to step down as chief executive this year. “I have advised the Apollo board that I will retire as C.E.O. on or before my 70th birthday in July and remain as chairman,” he said in a statement.
The review — ordered by the firm’s board at Mr. Black’s behest in October, after The New York Times detailed at least $75 million in payments — found that Mr. Black had paid Mr. Epstein $158 million in a five-year period ending in 2017. He had also lent Mr. Epstein more than $30 million, only $10 million of which was paid back, the report found.
Mr. Black’s payments effectively bankrolled the lifestyle of Mr. Epstein — whom Mr. Black viewed as a “confirmed bachelor with eclectic tastes,” according to the report — in the years after his 2008 guilty plea in Florida to a prostitution charge involving a teenage girl.
Also, Mr. Black believed that Mr. Epstein had “served his time” for that case and deserved a second chance, the report said. It found there was no evidence that Mr. Black had participated in any of Mr. Epstein’s criminal activities, or that Mr. Epstein had ever introduced Mr. Black to any underage girl.
The details of their financial dealings — Mr. Epstein’s advice was worth perhaps $2 billion in tax savings to Mr. Black, according to the report — created friction between Mr. Black and one of Apollo’s other founders, Joshua Harris, according to three people briefed on the discussions. In recent months, Apollo investors had begun openly questioning the financial ties between Mr. Black and Mr. Epstein, who died in 2019. One of the people said Mr. Harris believed that Mr. Black showed poor judgment in consorting with Mr. Epstein, and that the new findings would further hurt Apollo’s reputation.
Apollo’s board held a videoconference on Sunday to approve the findings of the review, according to two people briefed on the discussions. At the meeting, Mr. Black also announced his plans to step down this year and hand over the chief executive job to Marc Rowan, Apollo’s third founder. Mr. Black intends to remain chairman of the New York firm, which manages $455 billion for institutional investors, including pension plans and sovereign wealth funds.
During a series of meetings on Sunday evening, including with individual board members, Mr. Harris raised objections to Mr. Black’s timeline for stepping down, believing that the reputational threat was so serious that Mr. Black should relinquish the chief executive role without delay, the people said. Mr. Harris also made his case to his co-founders that night in discussions with Apollo’s executive committee — which consists of the three of them.
In the end, Mr. Harris’s objection fell on deaf ears, said the people, who requested anonymity to discuss private deliberations.

Mr. Rowan, who built Apollo’s insurance business but had largely stepped away from the firm’s day-to-day operations in recent years, will take over when Mr. Black steps down.
Mr. Black informed Apollo’s clients of the succession plan and the findings of the review in a letter on Monday evening.
Mr. Harris will continue in his current role as a senior managing director, focused on the firm’s financial performance and working closely with Mr. Rowan, according to the letter, the contents of which were reviewed by The Times. The letter also informed clients of other proposed governance changes, including adding four more independent directors. It also laid out Mr. Black’s plan to donate $200 million to charities that support gender equality and fight sex trafficking.

The review, conducted by the law firm Dechert, began after The Times reported that Mr. Black had paid Mr. Epstein at least $75 million in the years after his 2008 case in Florida. Mr. Epstein killed himself inside a Manhattan jail cell while facing federal sex-trafficking charges, which were filed amid widespread scrutiny of the plea deal he had reached a decade earlier.
Dechert’s review found that Mr. Epstein had provided “legitimate advice” on trust and estate planning, tax issues and matters related to Mr. Black’s extensive art collection, and other subjects.
Dechert said the value of the tax savings to Mr. Black was at least $1 billion and possibly as much as $2 billion. Though at the same time, the law firm noted, Mr. Epstein also “would seek to take credit for good ideas, regardless of his level of involvement, which likely was intended to bolster his perceived value to Black.”
The relationship began to deteriorate in 2016, the report said, amid a payment dispute over tens of millions of dollars in fees. The two men did not communicate after 2018, according to the review.
Mr. Epstein did not invest in any Apollo-managed funds, according to the report, but it found that his companies had bought more than 200,000 shares in the private equity firm’s initial public offering and held that stake until at least September 2019 — a month after Mr. Epstein died.
Many of Apollo’s biggest clients — including major pension funds, charitable foundations and sovereign wealth funds — had been awaiting the results of the report.
The $63 billion Pennsylvania Public School Employees’ Retirement System had said it would not invest any additional money with Apollo until the review was complete. CalPERS — the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, one of Apollo’s biggest clients — had said it expected its outside investment managers to follow the fund’s own values. Other pension funds — in Texas, Illinois and Ontario — also said they would be watching the investigation closely.
In his three-page letter to investors on Monday, Mr. Black acknowledged that “heightened media scrutiny of Apollo has generated unwelcome attention” for those investors. “I personally regret any distraction that may have caused,” he wrote. Mr. Black said Apollo had hired a law firm, WilmerHale, to look into its reputational risk management practices and suggest improvements.
Apollo grew out of the ashes of Drexel Burnham Lambert, the investment bank that collapsed in 1990 amid a trading investigation that sent the since-pardoned Michael Milken to prison.
Although Mr. Black started Apollo with his younger partners — Mr. Harris is 56 and Mr. Rowan 58 — he has been long been the face and voice of the firm.
In building Apollo into a global financial powerhouse, Mr. Black has made himself and his co-founders immensely rich: His personal fortune is estimated at more than $8 billion, and he owns a massive private art collection — including a version of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” — and is the chairman of the Museum of Modern Art.
But when Apollo held its most recent earnings call in late October, there were already signs his dealings with Mr. Epstein were causing ripples, both in the firm and among investors. In an unusual move, Mr. Black read a brief statement about the Epstein matter before handing over the meeting to Mr. Harris and Mr. Rowan.
Apollo has long specialized in buying up distressed companies and retooling them, but it also boasts large credit, infrastructure and real estate businesses. Mr. Rowan was the driving force behind Apollo’s thriving insurance business and its insurance subsidiary, Athene Holding, which has fueled the Wall Street’s firm earnings in recent years.
At one time, both Mr. Rowan and Mr. Harris were seen as the heirs apparent to Mr. Black. But with Mr. Rowan’s decision to pull back from day-to-day affairs, many on Wall Street assumed the job would fall to Mr. Harris, who has the run the nuts and bolts of Apollo’s vast buyout operation.
Mr. Harris, who is an owner of the Philadelphia 76rs basketball team and the New Jersey Devils hockey team, said he would “fully support” Mr. Rowan as chief executive. “I will focus on expanding our global search for investor returns, which is at the core of our success,” he said in a statement.
As the only three members of Apollo’s executive committee, the founders hold considerable sway over the company. As of now, the decision to name Mr. Rowan as Mr. Black’s successor does not need approval of the company’s board. And all three men — who have much of their net worth tied up in the company — have a vested interest in the stability of the firm.

WASHINGTON — An investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old Australian citizen who is now facing a total of 247 charges related to 245 alleged child victims in the United States.
In 2019, HSI special agents in Tallahassee, Florida, received information from the Leon County (Florida) Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) regarding the exploitation of minors throughout the U.S. by an individual in Australia. The individual was masquerading as a popular YouTube star in order to befriend minor females and gain their trust. He then blackmailed the minor victims and instructed them to film themselves doing various sexually explicit acts, many of which involved physical contact with other minors and/or animals.
HSI reached out to the AFP to help identify the predator in Australia. With the assistance of Western Australia Police (WAPOL), AFP quickly identified the subject in Western Australia and initiated Operation ESK. HSI Canberra provided support to Operation ESK by obtaining subscriber details from YouTube for the offender, and both the previous and potential victims. Forensic examination of the subject’s social media account led to the identification in October 2020 of 112 U.S. victims of online child exploitation and upon continued investigation an additional 134 by January 2021. The suspect, Muhammad Zain Ul Abideen Rasheed, 25, was arrested by AFP and is currently in custody.
“Child exploitation is a heinous crime that is happening far too often on social media sites used by our children,” said HSI Regional Attaché for Oceania, Adam Parks. “These investigations will continue to be our top priority to ensure that children around the world are protected from sexual predators. Thanks to our close partnership with the Australian Federal Police and Western Australia Police, we were able to identify this predator and protect future children from falling victim to this monster.”
Operation ESK is a joint investigation between HSI Canberra, AFP, and WAPOL, with assistance from HSI Tallahassee, LCSO, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).
