In a wide-ranging interview in the New York Times, Melinda Gates made the following remarkable statement: “What did surprise us is we hadn’t really thought through the economic impacts.” A cynic might observe that one is disinclined to think much about matters than do not affect one personally.

It’s a maddening statement, to be sure, as if “economics” is somehow a peripheral concern to the rest of human life and public health. The larger context of the interview reveals the statement to be even more confused. She is somehow under the impression that it is the pandemic and not the lockdowns that are the cause of the economic devastation that includes perhaps 30% of restaurants going under, among many other terrible effects.

She doesn’t say that outright but, like many articles in the mainstream press over this year, she very carefully crafts her words to avoid the crucial subject of lockdowns as the primary cause of economic disaster. It’s possible that she actually believes this virus is what tanked the world economy on its own but that is a completely unsustainable proposition.

The good news (apparently) is that, as TechCrunch reports, SpaceX is one step closer to replacing its Falcon line of active duty spacecraft: Its Starship prototype ‘SN8’ achieved a major milestone in the ongoing spacecraft’s development program, flying to a height of around 40,000 feet at SpaceX’s development facility in southern Texas.

One of the Starship’s three Raptor engines cut off around 2 minutes into flight, but the prototype rocket continued its ascent. Then at around three minutes, another extinguished, leaving just one lit and firing. The rocket continued to climb, oriented upward, but it was hard to tell from the feed exactly how high it reached. The third flared out at around 4:30, and the Starship oriented into a horizontal position, angling back towards Earth but effectively flat on its belly, gliding.

"SN8’s flight test is an exciting next step in the development of a fully reusable transportation system capable of carrying both crew and cargo to Earth orbit, the Moon, Mars, and beyond. As we venture into new territory, we continue to appreciate all of the support and encouragement we have received," SpaceX said in a statement.

James Biden, a financier and brother of the former vice president, was in a hotel lobby in November 2017 when he got a surprise call on his cellphone. The call was from Patrick Ho, Mr. Ye’s lieutenant. Mr. Ho, 69, was in trouble.

Federal agents who had monitored CEFC’s rise since at least the summer of 2016 had sprung into action, arresting Mr. Ho in New York on allegations that he had bribed African officials in Chad and Uganda. Days later, federal agents showed up at Mr. Ye’s luxury apartment building across from Central Park with a subpoena to interview Mr. Ye, said people familiar with the matter.

Rush Limbaugh, noting conservatives have very little in common with people in certain states, is raising the issue of secession.

Limbaugh made his comments on his radio show on Wednesday.

“I actually think that we’re trending toward secession,” he said. “I see more and more people asking what in the world do we have in common with the people who live in, say, New York? What is there that makes us believe that there is enough of us there to even have a chance at winning New York, especially if you’re talking about votes.

Weekly Initial Unemployment Claims increased sharply to 853,000

In the week ending December 5, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 853,000, an increase of 137,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 4,000 from 712,000 to 716,000. The 4-week moving average was 776,000, an increase of 35,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 1,000 from 739,500 to 740,500. This does not include the 427,609 initial claims for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) that was up from 288,234 the previous week.

The dashed line on cap#2 is the current 4-week average. The four-week average of weekly unemployment claims increased to 776,000.

Morgan Stanley is planning to shift around 100 billion euros ($121 billion) in assets to Frankfurt from Britain next year as a consequence of Brexit, a person with knowledge of the matter said on Thursday. Tony Shaffer: Election Anomalies ‘Too Vast and Too Detailed to Be Ignored’

Tony Shaffer, president of the London Center for Policy Research and a former senior intelligence officer, told The Epoch Times that action should be taken to address election anomalies and restore people’s confidence in the election system.

“We feel that the anomalies here are too vast and too detailed to be ignored,” Shaffer told Jan Jekielek, host of The Epoch Times’ “American Thought Leaders” program.

“We’re not advocating for the president,” Shaffer stressed. “We’re not advocating for any specific outcome. We’re specifically asking for investigations or other resolution of the questions we’re raising.”

Shaffer said there are three categories of “self-apparent” evidence that show at least the “perception of fraud,” and to deny investigating all three is “completely unreasonable.”

Facebook Fact Checker Funded by Chinese Money Through TikTok

While Facebook portrays its army of fact-checkers as independent, the money behind at least one carries a distinct taint. One fact-checker, Lead Stories, is partly paid through its partnership with TikTok, a social media platform run by a Chinese company that owes its allegiance to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). TikTok is currently being probed by American authorities as a national security threat.

Moreover, the organization that’s supposed to oversee the quality of fact-checkers is run by Poynter Institute, another TikTok partner.

Lead Stories says it’s been contracted by ByteDance “for fact checking related work” referring to TikTok’s announcement earlier this year that it has partnered with several organizations “to further aid our efforts to reduce the spread of misinformation,” particularly regarding the CCP virus pandemic which originated in China and was exacerbated by the CCP regime’s coverup.

Lead Stories was started in 2015 by Belgian website developer Maarten Schenk, CNN veteran Alan Duke, and two lawyers from Florida and Colorado. It listed operating expenses of less than $50,000 in 2017, but had expanded seven-fold by 2019, largely thanks to the more than $460,000 Facebook paid it for fact-checking services in 2018 and 2019. The company took on more than a dozen staffers, about half of them CNN alumni, and became one of Facebook’s most prolific fact-checkers of American content.

This year, the funding sources included Google, Facebook, ByteDance, and several online advertising services. Advertising brought it less than $25,000 last year, the group said.

“The bulk” of the funding still comes from Facebook, it says.

Part of its revenue comes from subscriptions to “Trendolizer,” its viral content tracking tool. “For privacy reasons we cannot reveal the list of Trendolizer users … but none of them individually accounted for more than 5% of our revenue,” it says.

The Trendolizer website only shows three pages “powered” by it: Trendolizer.com, LeadStories.com, and StoryTide.com, a news aggregator started by LeadStories in 2016.

Lead Stories didn’t respond to emailed questions.

Censorship

Facebook’s fact-checking partnerships have drawn criticism as they facilitate censorship. A post flagged as false by the partners not only gets furnished with a warning label and a link to the fact check, but Facebook “significantly reduces the number of people who see it,” the company says on its website.

The fact-checkers themselves can choose what content to review and decide what is labeled as false and why. Any complaints about the verdict must be raised with the fact-checkers, who aren’t known to readily reverse themselves, even when their fact checks themselves require fact checking.

Lead Stories has recently focused on disputing claims about voter fraud, contributing to censorship of the topic on Facebook….

Japan’s biggest banks have a $44 billion problem: how to sell stakes in their most important clients without losing their business.

The lenders have offloaded trillions of yen in cross-shareholdings in the past decade under pressure from regulators and investors. Now they are down to a clutch of firms that are resistant to stake sales, according to interviews with more than half a dozen bank officials, who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the discussions. Firms have threatened to take their business elsewhere if lenders sell their holdings, said one senior executive at a major bank. Such resistance is leaving banks in a bind as they seek to improve corporate governance and shore up their finances through the divestments. The practice of cross-holdings is largely unique to Japan, where it emerged after the war to cement ties with friendly owners and keep more demanding shareholders at bay. A slowdown in sales would impair lenders’ efforts to reduce vulnerability to financial markets and bolster capital to give back to shareholders or spend on their businesses. Banks have also been booking gains on the offloads, so any drop in such transactions would weaken earnings that are already being battered by rock-bottom interest rates and rising credit costs during the pandemic.

Japan’s three biggest lenders Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group Inc., Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group Inc. and Mizuho Financial Group Inc. - have signaled a commitment to keep reducing their cross-holdings, which totaled 4.6 trillion yen ($44 billion) as of March. They have unloaded 3.6 trillion yen since 2010, a task made easier by targeting companies that were more receptive to the trend than bedrock clients. MUFG’s current goal involves cutting 800 billion yen of stocks in the six years ending March 2021. Sumitomo Mitsui aims to shed 300 billion yen in the five years through March 2025, while Mizuho plans to trim 300 billion yen in the three years ending March 2022. Brandy Vaughn of 'Learn The Risk' Found Dead

Yesterday it was reported on social media that Brandy Vaughn, founder of Learn The Risk, a vaccine awareness non-profit organization, was found unresponsive by her 9-year-old son. Her community was shocked. She was a 47-year-old single mom, apparently healthy, and had been very clear that she no reason to commit suicide.

As a former executive of Merck who spoke out against vaccines, she was harassed and threatened. She knew she was at risk. A year ago, she made a video recording of how her home had been repeatedly broken into, items moved, and she suspected that her home had been bugged. Incidents occurred to demonstrate that someone had been listening to her conversations or watching her by camera.

All of this is extremely sad and frightening for our community. Those who benefited from her friendship, fundraisers for their vaccine-damaged child, insightful information, saw her numerous billboards about vaccine risks, or community organizing are particularly stricken with grief. They will mourn the loss of her life for years to come.

But those who did not know her also grieve because Brandy was a mom who stood up for the safety of other children. She was one of us. One of the best of us. The loss of her life is a loss for all of us. Her courage and generosity were the strongest bonds of camaraderie there are for women. We raise our children in a community, and when our closest community does not believe us, shuns us, and even mocks us, we turn to social media to find support and create a new community.

Brandy was a leader for many years in that online community, particularly in California during the opposition to SB 277 that removed a parent’s religious and personal beliefs regarding the vaccination of their children. She spoke publicly, mentioning Merck’s name and her background as a VIOXX sales rep, letting her audience know that she knew the tactics that were used and how vaccines were being pushed and sold, without safety testing, just like VIOXX was. She knew that the drive to make a profit, for Merck and Big Pharma, far surpassed their commitment to testing and safety. And she was vocal about it.

We don’t know how Brandy died. We may never know. It may have been a natural cause. It may have been murder by the people who most wanted her silenced…during a time of crucial vaccine scrutiny, before the COVID vaccine rollout. We don’t know.

What we do know is that Brandy would not want anyone to stop speaking out about the risks of vaccines. We know that her love for the safety and freedom of every child overwhelmed her fear for her own safety. We know that our own commitment to creating health and freedom is unwavering. Our commitment does not change, but in fact, grows stronger.

No matter what happens, war, death, sickness, famine…historically women have thought about the future, planned for the safety of their tribes, and implemented the actions that needed to be taken. We communicated directly to those in power, stocked up on food, ensured the safety of shelter and food, cared for the sick and wounded, and if needed, migrated to places of safety. But we did not do this alone. We did it as a tribe, a community of women and tribal members who saw the needs, acknowledged them, and took on being the ones to remedy the situation. We have been, and continue to be, the ones in power in our own families.

And that is what we will continue to do. We see the need. We do not ignore the risks of vaccines and government/corporate medical control. We see the risk to our safety, our society, and our long-term potential as a free nation. We see the devastation of our children and their potential eroded away by vaccine damage. We see our elderly struck down by the side effects of vaccines. We SEE these harms, and we do not look away.

As we do not look away from Brandy’s death. We see the tragedy, we feel the loss. We also, as a tribe, will take on the actions to restock and rejuvenate… and carry on.
