Doll. I fucking hate that the NA version changes it to Skell.

Dolls is too generic but then Skell is just shortened skeleton.
Maybe something like Squel, would have worked better.

'Skell' is short for exoskeleton.
Doll is great, but I'm not opposed to Skell either.
If I had to pick between the two I'd go with Doll.

Doll is silly, but alright. Skell being slang for a vagrant makes it amusing, though.

Doll is less awkward, but overused.

I don't know why they don't just call them robots or mechs.
It's better than fucking SKELL.

Doll sounds stupid, but skell is fucking retarded.
Why do we bother changing the names instead of calling what they are? This is so frustrating. We all know what we're talking about here, fellas.

Both are stupid, why didn't they just call them mechs?

This. The need to give them super unique names that end up sounding silly is dumb.
Call them what they are, mechs.

Technically, I think Harmony Gold trademarked mechs, specifically 'mechs. Japanese series tend to also have random names for them; hell, I think Xenosaga went through three different types of mechs with different names for each.

If anything 'mechs would be trademarked by Battletech and HG would have trademarked Veritechs

Well I do prefer Doll, I think Skell isn't all that bad, because it's a real word.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skell
"Skell, as a stereotypical or archetypal designation, refers to a person who is homeless, vagrant or derelict."
Seeing as humanity is now without a home now that the earth is exploded, it's rather fitting.

I just call them mechs

Doll is a bit overdone in the genre, but fits theme as intended As "humanity" are Dolls themselves. Still Doll will always make me think of Turn A when mentioned in /m/ terms.
But as >>9239 points out "Skell" does fit too in diffrent way, though i doubt it was intended considering the translators track record.
Honestly as far as the changes go that is one that bothers me less compared to the dumber shit like Wels>Verus and faggoty like "Toning down" of religious references, one of the appeal points.
>>9236
Making up fun names are half the fun though.
Xenosaga had a number of dumb names for theirs as well. A.S, AWGS and more.

I don't care if a game calls their mechs something like an "Orbital Frame" or an "AC"; I'll always call them mechs regardless.
