What is the point of making something completely unrelated to the setting it is?
This is one of the problems with Late UC, that even it's set on the Universal Century it doesn't even try to feel connected to it.
What do you think?

I like F91 and crossbone on their own but as a part of the universal century they are very out of place.
UC should be zakus and jims in trench warfare.

Some people may think that Late UC not having Zeon but they have to realize that if there's no Zeon in the Universal Century there is no point in calling it UC.

It kinda feels like they were trying to be clever and inventive, yet it plays off very cheeky and ineffectual. I mean, there's no point arguing how desultory and detached Late UC feels cause pretty much every person involved in Gundam production has jettisoned that ship after Victory.
Honestly, at this point, Tomino (and everyone else) is just being an impish dick by forcing UC chronology and redolence into his post-CCA stuff.

>even though it isn't, as shown by both side material and some cues in the F91 movie itself
>saying F91 is "late UC" when it takes place a mere 30 years after CCA
I never understood these sentiments. They don't make sense. I feel like Late UC just was coined to give a term to any UC production that didn't involve Zeon, Char, or Amuro directly.

It feels that way because late UC has been treated like a red headed step child and been neglected. Now compare it to the OYW or shortly after periods and you have a wealth of supplemental material to fully flesh it out. Hell, they had to make 0083 to flesh out OYW to Zeta.

The problem is that Late UC doesn't have interesting ideas or original concepts, it's just a rehash of Early UC with slight differences.

That fits early UC to a T as well. How many times did we have to listen to Zeon dindu nuffin then have the entire series dealing with the Zeon fallout from the OYW. We've had two shows in late UC and the last one ended in '94 I think. They've had no chance to expand on anything or come into their own.

> it doesn't even try to feel connected to it.
He posts an image of F91, which featured Jegans, now showing their age as new mobile suits are brought in by both the Federation and the Crossbone Vanguard, where part of the action takes place at a mobile suit museum and where Seabook decides to code-name the F91 "Gundam" because of the legacy that name has. Does it need to be about another fucking Zeon remnant in order to "feel connected"? Did F90's retro-styled Mars Zeon do it for you?
I don't get it. This thread seems to suggest that there's no inherent value in a persistent universe where new factions and technologies are introduced. I like seeing beam rifles, panoramic cockpits, beam shields and flight systems gradually adopted as standard equipment. I find the newtype phenomena and its wartime use an interesting thing to explore and a compelling, if repetitive, tragedy. Why should we be obliged to throw it all away and start fresh just because the story being told is not about Zeon again?

Not really, but I want to see the old characters back.
Where is Kamille? Where is Judau? Why the fuck they forgot about Char and Amuro?
>Did F90's retro-styled Mars Zeon do it for you?
Lacks the charm really, it just doesn´t feel interesting as Early UC.
>I find the newtype phenomena and its wartime use an interesting thing to explore and a compelling, if repetitive, tragedy.
Completely redundant.
CCA did the job of "Maybe humans will learn after this or maybe not but we have the potential" a lot better.
>Why should we be obliged to throw it all away and start fresh just because the story being told is not about Zeon again?
It´s not like Crossbone Vangurard is literally a reskinned Zeon.
I don´t see the point of Late UC. I would be fine with it if VIctory and F91 were good or if it had original concepts (superficial bullshit doesn´t count).
in the end, Late UC is just Early UC without the charm and it feels really oversaturized.

They didn't forget, at least the ones who were actually connected to them. Amuro wasn't publically known or a hero, and the Federation actively kept his public appearances to a minimum. Char was a figurehead, he wasn't forgotten, but you really think the Federation, which turned very sharply anti-Spacenoid post CCA, as indicated in Unicorn, Hathaway's Flash, etc., is just going to let Char continue influencing people from beyond the time?

IIRC the events of unicorn don't change anything. Which is why unicorn is just a money grabbing fan service scheme. *even tho some of the fan service is noce* I could be wrong about this. I haven't seen anything unicorn since the last ova was released.

After Unicorn, Contolism is completely dead. Aside from Oldsmobile Army which are irrelevant fucks in the middle of nowhere, you have the Crossbone Vanguard which didn't give a fuck about Newtypes so much as their own aristrocracy. The Jupiter Empire didn't view themselves as human anymore due to surviving the horrible living conditions of the Jupiter Sphere, and the Zanscare Empire are a matriarchal monarchy that wants to kill Earthnoids that's also a puppet of Jupiter.
Even the Zabis didn't care about humanity evolving into Newtype's, they just wanted Side 3's independence (or if you're Gihren, spacenoid dominion over all of the Earth Sphere). The only faction who gave a shit about human evolution into Newtype's were Char's Neo Zeon, who tried to make Deikun's dream a reality by destroying the Earth.
