really creative name there. it's being shown alongside re-screenings of other works from Japan's Animator Expo in October, so I'm guessing it's a one-shot short film.
Familiar names in the staff list include Hideaki Anno as a producer, Kenji Kawai as the composer, and Kazunori Ito working on the script. Of course, Yutaka Izubuchi is on mechanical design.
New names are Naoyuki Asano as the character designer and animation director, and Yasuhiro Yoshiura as the director and scriptwriter. Not sure what Asano has worked on, but Yoshiura is the creator of Patema Inverted.
Koichi Yamadera and Megumi Hayashibara are listed in the cast.
>3DCG
honestly to be expected in this day and age. doesn't look horrendous, but doesn't look amazing either. pretty run-of-the-mill.
>old Ingram design instead of one based on live-action
I think they want to ignore everything about the live-action series right now lmao

forgot to add that I think the second point of the old Ingram design is a good thing because the live-action series was booty

For what purpose?
If it's a one-shot short then you'd think they'd be able to spare some coin and actually get a proper fucking budget to hire decent animators.

The animation looked a lot less awful than I expected.
I wonder what other established IPs will have shorts if they've done this and Gridman.

WEW FUCKING LAD That said it's not as bad as I was expecting and I fucking hate anime CG.
>Kenji Kawai
Nice, but is Oshii involved in this at all?

I don't see his name in the staff list, unfortunately.

I didn't either so I thought I'd ask. Welp, into the trash it goes then.

You should have put it in the trash the second you saw it was 3DCG.

Because Patlabor is generally great. I liked the first two Rebuilds and could somewhat tolerate the CG. But without Oshii it just won't feel right. Not like anything Oshii has done will ever come close to his earlier stuff anyway, but I'd still like to see him.

hopefully it won't be too far off since Ito is still working on the script.
I just hope it's not too dramatic with Yoshiura's involvement.
live-action patlabor was pretty ass based on the first ep alone but at least they tried to keep some of the comedic elements.

I just always really enjoyed Oshii's visual direction, especially in his earlier works. Things Like Gosenzo-sama Banbanzai! and The Red Spectacles are incredibly enjoyable because of it. I think everyone should see them.

Took a closer look at the DVD/BD info. The movie itself is 10 minutes with 30 minutes of bonus footage. Probably interviews and making-of stuff.

Doesn't really sound like much of a reboot does it?

Has there been any mecha shows recently that weren't 3DCG?

well the ships were 3DCG, even if the suits weren't
Gundam in general usually doesn't have 3DCG mobile suits, exceptions being Unicorn and The Origin. Build Fighters and Thunderbolt I think are the only ones recent where noticeable 3D models were absent or traced over completely.

Is a shitty 3DGC short really enough to confirm it's not dead?
