7 was indeed retarded, but this series seems to be handling the concepts from 7 in a much better way (i.e. music effecting and traveling along fold space, instead of just being essentially The Force from Star Wars.)
Plus, it honestly reminds me more of a revisiting of the "Music as instrument of war and control" concept from Macross 2, than anything out of Macross 7 ( which I find especially satisfying due to Macross 2, imo, being one of the more underrated entries in the franchise.)
