Most people who go straight from Zeta to ZZ hate it because of the huge difference in tone. Some arcs are pretty dumb. But the last 25 episodes make up for all the early bullshit (at least for me it did). I say give it time and go back.

I feel like, Kamille was the strongest skill wise of the three, but Judau matured the fastest. It took Kamile and Amuro even a long time to accept responsibility. Amuro definitely had one of the hardest times due to how ill-equiped White Base was in the original in terms of firepower.

Amuro for sure. I loved watching him develop from a whiny (albeit with good reason) kid to probably the very definition of a consummate professional over the course of the series, and like >>12312 mentioned, 0079 did a great job of actually selling the protagonists as civilians thrust into a horrible situation and in way over their heads. He just felt the most like a real person, which, in my opinion, made his ascension to one-man Zeon wrecking crew that much more satisfying.
Second would be Kamille, then Judau. But I really like all three of them.

I disagree. I think Kamille was the strongest Newtype of the three or at least had the potential before he got fried, but Amuro was definitely the most skilled pilot. I'm pretty sure he was actually at a disadvantage, tech-wise, against a lot of Zeon's Mobile Armors, and even their later grunt suits weren't that far behind the RX-78-2. It may be my inner Amuro fanboy talking, but it certainly feels to me like he accomplished the most with the least-advanced suit relative to his opponents.

Amuro's the best written, which is impressive given how many more appearances he has compared to the other two, and Kamille is also well written, but Judau's my favorite.
I'm not saying Judau or ZZ is even that great, but I liked his contrasting personality to the other two.
He's just generally a cool dude. He still has the same growth that the other two do, but you can see the contrast in him even in that image with him being the only one wearing his casual clothes.
One could argue that it's just ZZ's weird 80's character designs, but it's not like there weren't other characters even on the same ship who were in uniform.

Kamile was a warrior autist, Judau seemed like a cool guy to hang out with, and Amuro like a mix between the two(even though he came before either of them.) Overall, I like Amuro the best.
