I'm operating on a similar principle. The only Gundam series that's ever had a huge focus on the fights are G and Build Fighters, but even then G's the one that's more so.
I think it has potential, the whole "Martian independence" thing is far from original, but I don't really think there's anything wrong with that either. Zone Of the Enders did it too, and it was still pretty good. Well, The Second Runner anyway.
Actually, that may be why I'm digging this so much and hoping it turns out well, it's basically just The Second Runner.

Wing's MSIA toyline took off well, though (I personally remember the 12 inch Wing figure that my mom confiscated the weapons from for no real reason, and then later my brother was born and he later was able to play with NERF guns at the same age. I blame Columbine mania.). The real problem came with G Gundam's toyline (stores didn't like that they had shelves of Mandala Gundams sitting unsold because nobody wanted them) and the awful idea of "battle scarred" Gundams (who would want to buy a toy where it looks like it was played with a lighter and chewed up by a dog?)
Hell I don't think SEED even had a toyline here, and the last toyline released in US stores was SD Gundam Force (I remember wanting the fuck out of Bakunetsumaru).

He's almost smiling in those flashbacks as a child where it's clear he just shot someone, when he accepts Orga's pistol without even asking him what he wants him to shoot, and he walks up and starts stomping on mobile workers just so his opponent wont shoot at him. Nah, some character development happens, both before and after the cute girl who made him tue bracelet dies. Meanwhile Orga goes on a power trip, and Mika has to chose whether he wants to follow him or the Martian princess. He goes with the latter, kills Orga, and goes full UNDERSTANDING. The show ends with him working the field that was shown in the preview for the next episode, with the Gundam parked in the middle of it surrounded by flowers.

So a week later we've gone to space, and I've gotta say as cool as ground fighting is the space fight this episode wasn't actually bad at all.
There was a lot of shortcuts and visual trickery obviously, but the shit they did was really cool and definitely kept that whole gritty teeth gnashing quality that the (albeit really fucking short) ground fights had.
Shit like the asteroid swing was hype as fuck, especially with Eugene screaming like a retard as he charged in. I'm also pretty interested in seeing what happens, so unless they do something really egregious and just dump ass all over the series like Aina getting in Barbatos and being better than Mikazuki or something equally retarded, I'm gonna keep up with this show.
Not a huge compliment I guess, but it's certainly more than what I can say about G-Reco. There's a simple objective for our heroes, and the series revolves around making that happen.
Namely "Get Aina to Earth" and that's it.

This Barbatos's distinguishing feature is being able to assimilate other parts, but the Barbatos in the Ars Goetia is:

The fact they would have to be made of material harder than the shit they're bludgeoning in the first place to be any sort of effective. Not to mention the Shot Lancer wasn't explicitly only a melee weapon, and was primarily a projectile weapon.

I think the fact that the entries in the wiki on IBO stuff being fleshed out, compared to the stubs Reconguista has at least speaks for something.
On the topic of Season 2, I feel like the only person who actually appreciates how not every single episode involves a suit battle. The older Gundam series are good, but that shit got tiring in Zeta, to be honest. Especially when revelations in the story were ocurring, and politics were being played, but they kept having to cram a battle in.

The Galaxy Cannon kicks like a motherfucker. That's why Ryusei-Go has the transformation to begin with. Watch back when he fired it for the first time, each shot shakes the whole MS. It was pretty stupid to try and fire one one-handed in robot mode, and you can see it kick up when he fires it.
