I just want to draw stuff from my dreams and imagination and get into world building. Maybe be able to animate or model as well.

I don't think I'll ever get there.

Simon Stalenhag really inspires me.

Could've sworn I had a post in here from a while ago.

I was going to update on that post, and say "I did it" having my own comic now that I maintain on a weekly basis, but eh.

It's just what I do, when I have the time and am not exhausted.

I really wanted to make a living doing it, but I'm not cut out for the business side of things.

Besides, it doesn't really matter. This was my childhood dream, and I'm doing it. Every single line I make on the page is one step closer to being completely done, with it.

It's a bit embarrassing, but when I was young I'd wait with bated breath for every new shad post (This was the early days of his site when it was around once or twice a week and he wasn't into meme culture bullshit). Then I found out about Akabur, sparrow, cicada, musikalgenius, sadi, polyle, garabatoz, blargsnarf, and fixxer, and at first I thought to myself "hey, shad isn't uploading anything, at least I have alternatives."

Now it's more like the opposite, but the point still stands. I want someone to go "Oh hey, X isn't uploading. Well, shit maybe that other guy is doing something interesting", you know?

I'm what can be called a doodler, but I would like to grow some sort of skill and make a comic and start doing serious illustrations some day. I'm an old fag, so I don't think I'll ever get as good as some of you, but it is fun to try.

I've always wanted to be able to draw things in very high quality, but recently I've started to build a strong interest towards making interesting stories with interesting characters, and illustrating them in high detail without taking 4 hours to draw a single character.

I'm finding it very difficult to find people who want to do the same. To really create things with high standards, not just draw cheap fap material and gondolas or some tumblrshit.

I want to be able to make things that look like this. I probably won't make it anywhere near there since all of these artists started at age 4 and have an innate ability for art which is probably genetic. I on the other hand have shit genetics and am pretty stupid, while being just smart enough to realize it. Something tells me that I could spend the next 50 years practicing and I still wouldn't even approach this level. So my end goal, whether I like it or not, is most likely just suicide.

Quit being such a fucking crybaby. What a surreal thing that someone with that sort of attitude wants to pursue art. If you really want to make things like that, it would only take you 3-4 years of hard work. It's just that there's a lot of elements in that mural thing that intimidates you. Once you truly know the fundamentals (most importantly lighting and understanding values) and get a hang of them you can make better things like that easy.

Not him but I think he has a point if nothing else, when we focus on why everything sucks we engage in some self-fulfilling prophecy bullshit. I've noticed that it's when I have the best attitude about what I'm doing that my work turns out as good as can be expected (of course it helps that I'm not a complete beginner anymore; when you're at that point where you can hardly draw a stick figure it's hard to maintain your sanity)

"short" term is to refine my drawing skills and learn better habits. Medium term is to develop a proper art-style(s), and learn how to do everything digitally. All of this leads to the long term goal of drawing my own comics.

End goal is to make at least one good comic book. Not that it's too hard, considering how bad, limited, and amateurish American comics have been for the last few years. Ultimate and borderline impossible goal would be to revolutionize American comics.

I half dream about making the epic romantic sci fi story that I like daydreaming about into a comic. Right now I'm so far away that I can't see myself ever doing that though.

In the short term I need to get my life in order enough so that I can not just draw every day, but more consciously practice every day as well.

I just noticed we didn't have one of these, so here you go.

What's your type of art poll.

http://poal.me/k3f2ff

Just to kind of measure our demograph. It's not exhaustive, so you can add new answers. You can also go with more than one because most aren't strictly one type of art.

>>6297

>I'm finding it very difficult to find people who want to do the same. To really create things with high standards, not just draw cheap fap material and gondolas or some tumblrshit.

I'm not exactly sure about this, which's why I made the poll, but I think a big part of anons here actually want to draw good art, but is just not there yet.

I like provocative art, in a way. Not literal dick in a canvas, "I want to provoke society" provocative, just art that stirs a feeling in people. Personally I like melancholy, desolation and cute girls, so I'd like to make good art that provokes that sort of feeling.

I don't want to work with art in any way. Sure, I'd do a couple commissions for extra money if I needed to, but I don't want to work with it for life, for me it's mostly just a hobby. Still, I want to study hard and pay proper respect to my vision. I'll keep going until I'm happy with myself, then continue after that.

People who think of it as a hobby and don't even try to work towards getting better disgust me. People who actually work with it and don't try to get better disgust me even more.

I'm not sure if everyone here is as radical as me, but I'm sure at least a couple anons think so as well.

My main reason for learning art is because I really liked to draw when I was little but stopped because I always got yelled at for it, and I just want to get rid of the regret I have from stopping.

As for actual goals, I eventually want to try to adapt a short story into a kinetic novel, since I feel like that's something that hasn't really been done before.

In the long term, I still want to be a full-time programmer and don't want to make a career out of art, but I think it'd be really cool to illustrate the cover of a novel or an album someday.
