Iirc jpg is a lossy image format where the main purpose is to compress large files into smaller ones so it's easier to share. When you convert png files to jpg, you'll lose some information and you'll visually see that with the resulting infamous pixelation (needs more jpg/jpeg).
Png is lossless and supports transparency unlike jpg, so you need it if you're doing any editing.
You can easily see the difference by starting with a clean png file and then convert a copy of it into jpg using any random tool and comparing side by side.

If I just wanted lewd kemono girls, I could read a doujin by Rikose, or Shinobe, or Kyuuri, or any number of other artists that I like as much or more than Amakuchi. If he stopped working on Foxy Rena to go back to doing r34 one shots, whether they were straight or gay, he would go from "the guy who makes Foxy Rena" to "that guy who draws girls with big tits and big eyebrows and guys with muscles that rival early JoJo." He found a niche with Foxy Rena, and whether he or anyone else likes it or not, he kind of painted himself in a corner with it, for better or for worse.

I don't speak a lick of moon (except for a tenuous grasp on kana), and I realized that I could only bullshit my way so far by trying to use dictionaries, common sense, and machine translations. I knew that eventually I was going to encounter some kind of idiomatic speech or obscure colloquialism that wasn't going to be in a dictionary and I was going to have to either translate something like "getting the boot" to "buying new shoes" or have to try to guess what it means and translate accordingly.
Even in the panel I linked, what I translated to "ancient loli kitsune" was originally "ロリババ". It took me probably two hours to figure out what the fuck this was, because no dictionary had the word and Google didn't bring up anything relevant. It was only when I realized that "ロリ" translated to "loli" that I thought to look up "lolibaba" in Google, and sure enough, I found out it's a term used to refer to young girls that act much older than they are, or in the case of Otama, she's literally an "old little girl". In hindsight, I have no idea how this was so challenging for me to figure out, but at the time, splitting the word up into multiple parts didn't really strike me as something to do.
In summary, autistic perfectionism got in the way of "good enough", and I abandoned the whole project. However, I'm planning to use my elective hours in uni to learn Japanese for real, so hopefully I'll be able to contribute to this board in the future this thread will still probably be around when I graduate, given the speed of this board. I really enjoyed what little I did, and I'd like to do it in the future when I have the skills to do it properly.

And yeah, this program works beautifully on Amakuchi's digital works (pretty much all digital art with clean lines); I've upgraded all the stuff from his Patreon with it with nearly no drawbacks at all, apart from substantially larger file sizes.
Here's an ss of the settings I've used for the stuff I've uploaded here. Make sure it's the UpRGB model for digitals; I haven't really mucked around with the UpPhoto model since the scans that JFMSU provides are really high quality and don't need enhancement.

No problem, really is a great program. Can experiment with the settings as you will, but those are the settings the developer has recommended (at least back in mid 2017 but I've no reason to expect that has changed).
I'm not the owner of that mediafire repository found at the top, that's someone else; I'm just a fan that sorts out Amakuchi translations and posts digital stuff occasionally.
I can clarify though that the official FAKKU english versions get released at 2288 x 3200 so no upscale and enhancement is necessary. It's just the DLsite ones with that weird resolution and graininess that need polish.

I don't quite understand it either. FAKKU's stuff is standardised and gets released at the lower x2600 version and the higher x3200 so no confusion there.
DLsite in my experience is a total mixed bag, can get anything from the actual files they use for printing, resized digitals and actual scans of the physical copy of a doujin.
Most of the redraws seem to be confined to 1-5, with volume 2 getting those two new pages that came with the FAKKU release. Seems to be mostly slight adjustments and transitioning the dicks to the newer detailed veiny style he started doing a couple years back.

UpResNet10 is currently the highest quality model available for waifu2x when it comes to 2d images. It's sharper than UpRGB, and retains more detail. Also, the denoise feature is mostly there to get rid of things like compression artifcats, ringing, and aliasing in an image. Amakuchi's Patreon content is clean enough that I don't really think it needs it. Unneeded denoising will just cause detail loss. Compare the monitor in the top left in these two images and >>10575 .
