Rules/FAQ
Remember this board? No? Well, that's because, besides it being incredibly specific and niche to have a board dedicated to a single band, this board was a piece of shit when it was last active. That said, we love Genesis, so we'd like to see if a /genesis/ board can thrive if it's actually taken care of with dignity. These games quite clearly require some frontiers, so here are the new rules, although they should go without saying:
RULES
-No CP.
-All NSFW images must be spoiler'd.
-Shitposts are fine if they're funny.
FAQ
>Is discussion of all Genesis eras fine?
FUCK RAY
FUCK GAYBRIEL
FUCK JIM
FUCK RON
AND FUCK NIGGERS.
>Can I discuss all the solo stuff?
Of course. Besides, the solo work of the classic five, you can also discuss the works of Ant Phillips and Ray Wilson, as well as Daryl Stuermer, Chester Thompson, and all touring members. Hell, you can discuss Kevin Gilbert too since there's probably an alternate universe out there where didn't die before Calling All Stations came out. There's so much solo work out there from the Genesis guys that they're one of the few bands who can maintain a whole board.
>Does Calling All Stations count as a Genesis album?
Yes it does.
>What about From Genesis to Revelation?
No, that piece of shit is a Jonathon King monstrosity and the band themselves have disowned it. You can still talk about it, though.
>Can I discuss other progressive rock bands aside from Genesis, such as Yes and King Crimson.
Try to keep it to Genesis first and foremost, but fuck it, it's not like there's a general prog board that's particularly active on 8chan, so have at it. I name Yes and King Crimson because there's various Genesis connections via Bill Bruford, Tony Levin (Solo Peter Gabriel), Chris Squire (Squackett), Steve Howe (GTR), and to a lesser extent Robert Fripp (A few PG tracks). The point is, Genesis members have collaborated with so many musicians in the prog world that it's not hard to discuss other prog bands while tangentially bringing it back to Genesis. If possible, that's how discussion of non-Genesis members should be approached. For example, you may like Porcupine Tree more than you like Kate Bush, but if you had to make a thread about only one of them, make the Kate Bush thread because of the Peter Gabriel connection.
That's all. Have fun.

Hey /genesis/ boys,
We are currently streaming the group phase of the current year's 8chanCup (or as it's more properly known as the Infinity Cup) but due to the exodus and 8ch hiccups we've lost a few teams whose boards never really recovered.
Because of that, we thought it could be great if you guys could join us with a team of your own and participate in the next iteration of the cup, if you feel like it.
All you need to do is modify the wiki entry of your own team over at http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page (use the layout of other teams as a preset), coming up with members/players that represent your board's culture and in-jokes, create a proper emblem and jersey combo and optionally choose strategies, skills and exportable 3d models using the rules set up at http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Rules and we'll make sure to consider your application for the future pot.
I should mention that we would also really appreciate if you came over to our cup's stream at https://cytu.be/r/8cup to spectate what the cup's really all about and to propose your own ideas to make it even better.
Phil Collins: 67 Years with You
Happy birthday, dad.
And face it, anti-Phil crowd, if it weren't for Mr. Collins Genesis would have had a nasty disbandment right after "The Lamb" tour, or go on with an expensive shit-tier vocalist. Perhaps without Collins I don't even know if the band would have survived after "Nursery Cryme," and we wouldn't have such fantastic lore like 'Supper's Ready' be the incredible piece that it is. Peter was the prose, Steve was the technique, Mike was the ink, Tony was the mind, and Phil was the glue.
On the other hand, Genesis would have remained a cult band without Phil. Short-lived and cerebral, they might have been the Velvet Underground of prog. They would still be the most circlejerked British prog outfit on 8chan, but for entirely different reasons. American Psycho would've been a slightly different story, in place of Phil Collins and Genesis would probably be someone like Lionel Ritchie and there'd be more focus on Huey Lewis and the News. Randy Newman and Sarah McLachlan would have took the Best Original Song Oscar in 2000 for "When She Loved Me," because not only there wouldn't be Phil Collins, there also wouldn't be Disney's "Tarzan" (1999). Maybe "Blame Canada" would have taken it on behalf of South Park, but then we wouldn't have the classic song "You'll Be in... Me."
And possibly the greatest outcome that would come if Phil Collins were never born, there would be no Undertale. Undertale's emotional core wouldn't be possible without the impact Collins made on Genesis. If it did exist, it would have a completely different story, and there'd be no meaning to the trash memes it spawned, so they wouldn't even be popular memes to begin with. The Internet might have been better off.
So be grateful that humanity has been blessed with Phil Collins sixty-seven years ago today. There's a lot of garbage that came with it but there's double the amount of gold behind it.
The 8chan Cup 4
GREETINGS /genesis/
The 4th edition of the 8chan Cup is fast approaching. First kickoff is set for January 4th, 2019 at 08:00PM UTC and your board is a part of it. The Cup will be a 32 team tournament, first with a group stage followed by the 16 team Knockout Round, all to determine a champion board of the site. The 3rd editon of the Cup saw the debut of 15 different boards, all of which are returning to shoot for glory once again, amongst revived boards and a few new ones as well. The Cup is being defended by >>>/christian/, who grinded out a 1-0 victory in the Finals over newcomers >>>/ita/. Eternal powerhouse >>>/bane/ managed to claim 3rd place over >>>/strek/ by stopping the Trekkies potent offense and pouring on four goals of their own. For a full breakdown of the 2018 Summer Cup, please take a look at the wiki http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/The_8chan_Cup
In 2019, your board has been drawn into Group C, with /tg/, /hgg/, and /u/. Please use this thread for pre-tournament hype and also any MINOR tweaks that may need to be made.

Have you taken the Phil pill yet, mateys?
it's a tough pill to swallow! The Phil pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Philipé Collins, who presents and narrates the attached video.
Forget red and blue pills, brown Phil are the way of the future.
Video related. Please leave your questions, comments, and concerns below about this radical new paradigm of thinking!
Re-EQ'ing the Nick Davis remixes
Hi all. Months ago, I picked up the 2007 ATTWT remix on CD, and while I thought the detail completely floors the original release, the brickwalled "dynamics" were a bit disappointing. As I went through the process of making an extended album out of ATTWT, I decided to re-EQ all of the songs to have universal sonics. What I didn't realize until I finished my first re-EQ, was that not only the characteristics of the sound appeared more natural, but dynamic range was somehow INCREASED.
Here's my remaster of Down and Out, which sounded brittle on the 2007 remaster in my opinion. Detail is lost on the way to 8chan, but there's no other way around that for me now. What do you guys think?
Every Halloween I listen to Genesis 1983; Home by the Sea is the obvious connection, but Mama is pretty spooky too. Even though the rest of the album isn't that dark, it just feels like October to me.
What are your favorite spooky songs in the Genesis family? Intruder? Darktown? Any of Steve's various vampire-themed songs? Go wild.
Hello /genesis/ I'm the guy running the next 8chan cup here, taking over TNA the guy who does 8chanmania
Next January is the next 8chan Cup so I'm making this thread for you guys to get your team together
For you who don't know the 8chan Cup or the Infinity Cup as it's also been known as is a tournament of CPU soccer players playing each other, representing their board for glory above the other ones and such
What I'm going to need is a roster of 20 Players with their Positions, at least 2 of which needing to be Goalkeepers. As well as a roster I'm going to need a Kit design or two decided by you, a team logo, an Anthem and Goalhorns
What would be nice is the kit done in the format for direct import into the game of which I'm Using Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, as well as Medals for players, and skills, as well as any special imports for the players if you're able to muster it
Medals are a system the 8cup uses to make star players, of which regular players are rated 77 all round and GKs are 70
Unlike the last one there will be 3 teirs of Medals, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze is 85 all round, Silver is 92 and Gold is 99, and each team can have 2 of each medaled players (2 bronze players, 2 silver and 2 gold).
Skills are the same as last time and are entirely optional as I can just put them in
WHEN YOU GUYS HAVE DECIDED YOUR TEAM PLEASE MAKE A THREAD TITLED "/genesis/ 8cup4 thread" or something similar WITH THOSE STATISTICS ON THE /8cup/ BOARD
THE TEAM IS DUE ON OCTOBER 31st
And with that lets have some fun mates
Foxtrot on MQA CD
Is anyone aware of MQA CD? The first titles on this niche format have just appeared a week ago and one of them is Foxtrot. Techmoan recently did a video about them and I jumped out of my bed to see Foxtrot listed as one of the releases. You think this is worth another dip or is it snake oil?
8Chan Mania
What is it?
/v/ Nominates 32 fighters to fight for the Champion's Belt and a chance to fight in the 33rd Mania where their deepest wish will be granted.
This week we're having a site wide event and we want YOU to nominate a fighter, so please pick who you think represents the board the most, and then come join us at https://cytu.be/r/8chanmania on Saturday May 5th at 2pm EST to watch your fighters win!
Tony Banks Five General
Someone brought it up in >>422, so we might as well give it its own thread.
Tony released a new album last month. In case you don't know because his attempt to guilt you into following his solo career was not successful, this is his third in a series of orchestral albums. I haven't listened to Five yet, but I liked his other classical albums a bit and I've heard good things about this one. Be warned, it's none of that 90s Steve Hackett-esque, neo-classical shit, this is real classical music, so if you don't like that, you won't like this.
This is, bar none, the most emotional and heart-breaking Genesis has ever been. I've been recently going through family trauma, and this song perfectly connects with my feelings. Forget Afterglow, Alone Tonight, Undertow, Ripples, Please Don't Ask, or even Undertale. Phil's voice is so beautiful yet his performance here, in his 40s, sounds so destroyed and mauled. Peter Gabriel can never pull off a song like this.
