I really like the OP video about Brakhage. I think these video essays work well when the narrator doesn't impose themselves too much onto the subject.

It would be fun to make one of these. It doesn't seem that hard. Do some minor research and make note of your thoughts. Maybe the editing would take the most time

I watched his essays on Fort Apache and The Big Sky. He's noticeably better talking about Ford. He says Fort Apache stands against the formalities of military conduct. While that's true with Henry Fonda's character, the film itself seems to conclude on a different note. It's hard for me to see Gallagher's thesis in John Wayne's closing monologue that heaps praise on the armed forces.

I have to say this Tag Gallagher fellow is a sloppy speaker and a sloppy editor. It's funny that he made a lot of film essays when he's not very good at the two main production aspects.

Yeah, a great deal of his content is difficult for me to take seriously, but he makes some unique observations that I never would really think/ take note of.

I found one analyzing a certain high shot in Hitchcock's TV shows and movies. I'd like to find a video analyzing the use of special effects in Hitchcock movies. In case you hadn't noticed, he usually used effects that looked very crude

That got me thinking i'd like to have an album of the Stalker sound design. It's not very common to release an album like that, but I know there's one with the ambient background sounds of blade runner

I like paranoid thrillers but this video essay could be better imo. There's an appealing arrangement of clips but the narration is too slow to develop. Also I think Dark Side of the Moon is the wrong kind of music (very subdued) to accompany shots from these high intensity films. What do you think?
