Zhang Yimou - Shadow

>Zhang is one of China’s foremost directors of drama, pithy comedy and large-scale historical action. Many of his films have played at major festivals and been China’s foreign-language Oscar contender. His venture into the mainstream with “The Great Wall,” a VFX-heavy historical fantasy actioner shot largely in English and starring Matt Damon, enraged some of his most loyal fans in China for being popcorn entertainment.

>His latest, Shadow, is a martial arts drama set in the Three Kingdom’s era, although little has been revealed about the plot other than it is a return to Mandarin language.

So I wonder if that is a marketing ploy?

>marketing ploy

I can't say that was their main intent while making the project but they are probably playing it up now.

I don't see too much of a mystery though. The writers act like it's a mystery but at the same time they know quite a lot about it.

New Netflix trailer for The Other Side of the Wind

"Jake" Hannaford (a revelatory John Huston) returns from years abroad in Europe to a changed Hollywood, where he attempts to make his comeback: a career summation that can only be the work of cinema's most adventurous filmmaker, Orson Welles.

I'm not talking about Orson Welles you fucking dolt, and your attempt to be verbose to seem above me isn't fooling anyone, you belong back at Reddit, but that aside I explicitly said

>Netflix.

nothing to do with Welles, but supporting Netflix is a deal breaker, they can resurrect every 1920's film maker from the dead and have them make new movies solely to have them be Netflix exclusives but even then it's your obligation if you're not a terrible person that is to boycott them. Now do 8chan and the rest of the imageboards of the world a favor and fuck off back to Reddit.

>Why would women make gay porn?

Not to fag the thread up but a lot of gay porn producers are women, or pioneering women aka trannies.

Seems like they had the vision to make movies most men would find uncomfortable to film, and it seems no gay was smart enough to operate a camera, find crucial contacts, publishers and warehouses/rooms to do the banging, homos just did all their action spontaneously.

Also you need a somewhat respectable public image to do all that bidding, even in porno market, and women usually look more respectable than a strong dude with an overly silly lisp.

At least that's what i understood after reading Sharon Kane and Chi Chi LaRue stories, 2 important characters in a famed gay porn company known lately for appearing in edited joke videos about bad acting in gay porn movies. That's for the early years, nowadays it's a whole 'nother story.

I-i'm not gay, i just watch the joke vids for laughs at times. The poster looks quite pretentious, but who knows.

Mr. Jones (Agnieszka Holland, 2019)

I'm surprised to see a new film about the Holodomor. Perhaps it comes from the heavy anti-Russia sentiment that's so trendy these days? Anyway the production design looks impeccable, so this one could be worth a look.

Matthew Barney - REDOUBT

>Transposing the Diana myth onto a hunting party in the Northern Rockies, Barney paints a cinematic picture of the American West, trading his familiar baroque visuals for the straightforward sublimity of the landscape and the ineffable strangeness of its inhabitants. The film, a component of a larger project dated 2016–19, is a portrait of central Idaho, shot in the Sawtooth Range, east of Boise, where Barney lived from age six until college

few issues:

https://cineuropa.org/en/newsdetail/373626/

>Emerging Slovakian filmmaker György Kristóf is readying yet another ambitious project after his feature debut "Out", "Bunker"

>slovakian

hungarian

>Out, Bunker

so they are angloamerican films and they have the same names on whichever language-edition you use too, hence confirmed

>glocal

Another thing that struck me is the eu advertisment on the right.

>gocritic

as if their "critique" level wasn't horrendous as it is

>muh "best" this, "best" that

either they are their own authority or they accept bigger authority, they can't coexist if both do very much the same thing, there's wikipedia, or should be, for poll aggregation

>cineuropa

>europa

>default is english

it should be, and should have been since 2002, fr/es/it/de

they also seem to suck dick of the industry very hard

every two or three days they put out 8 articles, which is too much for me, if they would make /news/ general puting all in one biweekly would be better, it's all bulshit too full of redundant information (what's the point? https://cineuropa.org/en/newsdetail/373623) and it's not like there's anybody checkin fucking film site every two days, or is there?

directors have filmography listed, that's nice, but there's no complete list of articles about the director, only about the films

reviews with no tags, unclickable authors of the reviews and way too short reviews with nothing-saying big words, someone calls this https://cineuropa.org/en/newsdetail/372892/ a critique?; either the film is worth reviewing so it's actual critique or you just say few words which can be contained in the /news/ general, worse than ebert-tier

rss feed sucks

you forgot to mention, when you mentioned trailers, their https://invidio.us/channel/UCwu67nMWl3Xq-_mw6Xr6vbQ

shame on them for not including exact link under the video tho

Compared to cineuropa:

clickable authours, although there's nothing about their background etc too

tagged, although it's not exactly what I would want: "drama" tag, what's the point of something that vague?, but directors are tagged so you can search both directors and their films and for films mentioned in the review

they make analysis, can't comment on them as I haven't read any https://www.cinemaldito.com/tras-el-mito-apuntes-sobre-lo-que-esconde-silver-lake/

they also do tasteofcinema-like lists https://www.cinemaldito.com/las-25-peliculas-noir-malditas/

3 pics instead of one in the review and the reviews justify themselves more, you can compare it yourself, it's not like it's hard to write something better than the cineuropa clowns https://www.cinemaldito.com/liberte-albert-serra/ if you don't speak spanish and don't want to use javascript, here's a tool you can use http://aplica.prompsit.com/en/, although it's better if you learn spanish haha

some reviews are more than 5 paragraphs https://www.cinemaldito.com/lo-que-esconde-silver-lake-david-robert-mitchell/

you seem to be able to comment the articles, although there are no comments

oh, and I noticed I have serious issue with modern "arthouse" being giallo first and social commentary second or reversed

at least they don't fear legs https://www.cinemaldito.com/primer-trailer-para-une-fille-facile-de-rebecca-zlotowski/ don't watch the trailer, it's ugly

rss feed sucks too

10 articles per page too

another personal problem, since they host that webpage on wordpress making it seem more unprofessional, is using youtube instead of invidious, but that's the last thing I care about

big plus it being exclusively spanish

I'm overwhemed by the sheer amount of reviews and information too

Overall, I've bookmarked it, thanks.
