This thread should serve the purpose of the sharing and discussing of new and upcoming films. I'll start with the film November.

>In a Medieval Estonian village, a group of peasants use magic and folk remedies to survive the winter, and a young woman tries to get a young man to love her.

A new Kubrick documentary

>Leon Vitali was a rising British television actor when Stanley Kubrick picked him for the role of Lord Bullingdon in Barry Lyndon. That first encounter with the famed auteur proved decisive — he swiftly resolved to devote the rest of his life working for the director, this time behind the scenes, and took on just about every job available: casting director, acting coach, location scouter, sound engineer, color corrector, A.D., promoter, and eventually restorer of Kubrick’s films. Tony Zierra’s affecting documentary profiles the devoted “filmworker” — Vitali’s preferred job title — as he enthusiastically recounts his days with the notoriously meticulous, volatile and obsessive director. The experiences brought both tremendous sacrifice and glowing pride. Filmworker celebrates the invisible hands that shape masterpieces, reminding us that behind every great director, there is a Leon Vitali. – Telluride Film Festival

The Eyes of Orson Welles to world premiere in Cannes

The Eyes of Orson Welles, a new documentary by Mark Cousins revealing a fresh insight into the life and art of Orson Welles, will have its world premiere in official selection at the 71th Cannes Film Festival (May 8-19).

Directed, written, filmed and narrated by Cousins, the film is based upon unprecedented and exclusive access to a lifetime of private drawings and paintings by Welles, most never before made public.

Make way, we have a winner

Dead Souls

Wang Bing's new documentary is a momentous eight-hour oral history of what truly went on in the Chinese "re-education" camps of the late 1950s.

>An eight-hour-and-15-minute documentary is not something you walk into lightly, especially when its subject is the imprisonment and slow-motion murder of human beings. But Wang Bing’s “Dead Souls” is a powerfully sobering and clear-eyed investigation that justifies its length through the gravity and presence of its testimony. Wang, like Claude Lanzmann in “Shoah,” isn’t just making a historical documentary; he’s using oral memoir to forge an artifact of history. “Dead Souls” has its longueurs, and it may not be as staggering a work as “Shoah” or Solzhenitsyn’s “The Gulag Archipelago,” but it does just what a movie that’s this long should: It uses its intimate sprawl to catalyze your view of something — in this case, how the totalitarianism of the 20th century actually worked. (One is tempted to say: quite well.)

Zhang Yimou - Shadow

>Zhang is one of China’s foremost directors of drama, pithy comedy and large-scale historical action. Many of his films have played at major festivals and been China’s foreign-language Oscar contender. His venture into the mainstream with “The Great Wall,” a VFX-heavy historical fantasy actioner shot largely in English and starring Matt Damon, enraged some of his most loyal fans in China for being popcorn entertainment.

>His latest, Shadow, is a martial arts drama set in the Three Kingdom’s era, although little has been revealed about the plot other than it is a return to Mandarin language.

>Why would women make gay porn?

Not to fag the thread up but a lot of gay porn producers are women, or pioneering women aka trannies.

Seems like they had the vision to make movies most men would find uncomfortable to film, and it seems no gay was smart enough to operate a camera, find crucial contacts, publishers and warehouses/rooms to do the banging, homos just did all their action spontaneously.

Also you need a somewhat respectable public image to do all that bidding, even in porno market, and women usually look more respectable than a strong dude with an overly silly lisp.

At least that's what i understood after reading Sharon Kane and Chi Chi LaRue stories, 2 important characters in a famed gay porn company known lately for appearing in edited joke videos about bad acting in gay porn movies. That's for the early years, nowadays it's a whole 'nother story.

I-i'm not gay, i just watch the joke vids for laughs at times. The poster looks quite pretentious, but who knows.

every two or three days they put out 8 articles, which is too much for me, if they would make /news/ general puting all in one biweekly would be better, it's all bulshit too full of redundant information (what's the point? https://cineuropa.org/en/newsdetail/373623) and it's not like there's anybody checkin fucking film site every two days, or is there?

directors have filmography listed, that's nice, but there's no complete list of articles about the director, only about the films

reviews with no tags, unclickable authors of the reviews and way too short reviews with nothing-saying big words, someone calls this https://cineuropa.org/en/newsdetail/372892/ a critique?; either the film is worth reviewing so it's actual critique or you just say few words which can be contained in the /news/ general, worse than ebert-tier

rss feed sucks

>10 reviews can be viewed at once max

Why is juxtaposition so overused?

it resembles gamasutra

I don't use the site for anything other than finding names of new releases. If there's something better I'm all ears.

Oh and here's one more that posts a lot of new trailers: https://www.cinemaldito.com/

you forgot to mention, when you mentioned trailers, their https://invidio.us/channel/UCwu67nMWl3Xq-_mw6Xr6vbQ

shame on them for not including exact link under the video tho

Compared to cineuropa:

clickable authours, although there's nothing about their background etc too

tagged, although it's not exactly what I would want: "drama" tag, what's the point of something that vague?, but directors are tagged so you can search both directors and their films and for films mentioned in the review

they make analysis, can't comment on them as I haven't read any https://www.cinemaldito.com/tras-el-mito-apuntes-sobre-lo-que-esconde-silver-lake/

they also do tasteofcinema-like lists https://www.cinemaldito.com/las-25-peliculas-noir-malditas/

3 pics instead of one in the review and the reviews justify themselves more, you can compare it yourself, it's not like it's hard to write something better than the cineuropa clowns https://www.cinemaldito.com/liberte-albert-serra/ if you don't speak spanish and don't want to use javascript, here's a tool you can use http://aplica.prompsit.com/en/, although it's better if you learn spanish haha

some reviews are more than 5 paragraphs https://www.cinemaldito.com/lo-que-esconde-silver-lake-david-robert-mitchell/

you seem to be able to comment the articles, although there are no comments

oh, and I noticed I have serious issue with modern "arthouse" being giallo first and social commentary second or reversed

at least they don't fear legs https://www.cinemaldito.com/primer-trailer-para-une-fille-facile-de-rebecca-zlotowski/ don't watch the trailer, it's ugly

rss feed sucks too

10 articles per page too

another personal problem, since they host that webpage on wordpress making it seem more unprofessional, is using youtube instead of invidious, but that's the last thing I care about

big plus it being exclusively spanish

I'm overwhemed by the sheer amount of reviews and information too

Overall, I've bookmarked it, thanks.
