Yeah pretty much this. I know this is semi-related but I find the current design's homogeneity unsettling. The character creator pretty much confirmed all "Mobians" have the same body types and the same head shapes. If anyone remembers, it wasn't like that in the Classic series, not even in that obscure manga. I don't get why they remove more of their animal features [their fangs, their muzzles], while removing what makes them distinctive as well. They make them look so flat and boring.
Pic related is probably my favorite Sonic character design because of the use of curves and non standard head and body shapes.

I hope they repurpose it for the main characters instead. Make old characters playable again, with SA1/2 upgrade system you can actually disable/mix and match instead, kinda like how Advance 3 handled it between character team ups.

I feel you. I feel all the same myself. If Kishimoto team knew how to make boost/Genesis gameplay, I wouldn't be complaining, but him and his newcomer devs suck ass at this. I'd at least take Gens Team, but they are in Mario Olympics hell and is never returning to mainline Sonic.

Honestly they should go ahead and bring that style back. Not the Heese style, which is different and far more cutesy and imo, less skilled and inspired, but this style with just slightly thinner and taller proportions but not too much, and colored eyes. Basically how 3D Sonic was always supposed to be designed like.

Going from Genesis game to Genesis game, Sonic did get progressively slimmer and taller with his shade of blue being increasingly darkened, which is one of the many reasons the hate against the Adventure redesign is so retarded. It's not a redesign at all, rather a natural progression of how Sonic was changing anyway.

Sounds like it would defeat the purpose of the game a bit. I don't know why it doesn't bother me in the 3D games that much. Maybe it's because the 3D games are better built around it but it still doesn't sound like that good of an idea, specially in the abusive way they like to use it.
