I would like to see a story where Amy goes on a long journey by herself and meets new villains and old friends along the way. She needs that sort of character development I think.

By going unconventional they would appeal the most to a reduced part of their clients, and at this point I doubt that's what they want to do.

I agree completely, but it's not necessary to do something unconventional for it to be good. Unless you mean that a god story would be unconventional because the stories we usually get in the games are shit.

Maybe, but I was more so talking about what I mentioned above. Not everyone is interested in some characters so giving those characters a lot of focus is something they'll probably avoid, at least until they do other things first.

Has anyone used Mania character replacement mods here? Have you liked any of them?
I am trying to find a good Amy Rose mod that suffices most of my requirements

Nothing so far is meeting my standards, but I'll have to look further I guess. I was hoping for a game that's been out since last year would have more polished mods but I guess not.
Also, a bit unrelated, but last year, I recall some guy on /sthg/ was modding Mighty & Espio into Sonic Mania. I told him my ideas for Mighty's moveset based on his Knuckles Chaotix moveset, e.g, to make him have a bound jump that works as a slightly stronger Bubble Shield in function and a wall kick. The modder said I had a horrible idea and called me an idiot. I'm reminded of this shit every time I play as Mighty with his hammer drop in Mania.

So, how do you suppose they write a good story? The key would be consistency and character development, of course, but also, there should be good character interaction and some unexpected things happening in the story which catches the fan interests. Sonic fans were never too big on predictable storylines, I think.
