Honestly, I feel that the biggest problem is not the division of the games in terms of gameplay styles, but how they mix the direction in the games, like how they both clearly want to cater to kiddies but not completely lose the interest of the fanbase in the process (which they fail at). I was hoping Boom would at least serve to give some relief in that sense by having the lame parts of the franchise confined to that subfranchise and tested there where they could make whatever experiment they wanted without people fretting, and allowing Modern to have more focused and coherent games, but Boom is probably dead so this isn't happening.
Obviously, the better option is to have Classic, Adventure, and Boost games and all of them being good, but fat chance that's ever going to happen. Instead of either of these scenarios we're stuck with the worst case where there's only one subfranchise outside of Classic and they're just going to keep doing what they do with it, to our detriment.

This isn't exclusive to Sonic Team, nor SEGA, but all busniess which get most of them in trouble. Even babbies first platformer Kirby got so easy people started hating him for it. If no one bitched before, don't change it. That's all you need to do. And don't over compensate when they do complain, or else you get Lost World.
The rest of this pose reeks of "patterns" when out of the blue they liqufied Sonic Team when they didn't even do this during SA1-2 era and only did this in the 90s for profits. Now Sonic is nowhere as big anymore, so why even split off to America of all places? If they just wanted to go even more bare minimum for Sonic, they'd keep him in Japan and just cameo him in Puyo Puyo or Mario's Olympic games.

Sonic Mania Adventures part 6
I loved it for the most part. It was beautifully written and directed, and its so cathartic seeing Amy become a confirmed part of the Mania universe and receive all the love and attention that comes with it. But one thing that's bothering me is the general idea of her helping Metal Sonic.
I mean I get what it was going for. Amy takes pity on Metal Sonic. She sees him as sad, lonely and abandoned. She treats him like a person. As opposed to Eggman who treats Metal Sonic like a thing, an object, once retrieving him.
If you view it from Amy's perspective (the episode standalone) its extremely effective. But if you view it from Sonic's perspective (All 6 episodes) it kinda makes Amy look like she undid all of the heroes' work. Of course this could be addressed by making Amy playable in a Sonic Mania sequel and having her confront Metal Sonic again. She'd experience the consequences of her decision and possibly decide whether she regrets it or not. But that's a ways off and there's no guarantee the Mania universe will continue past this point. Nothing is impossible but nothing is certain. For now, this is all we have

I think you're putting way too much thought into it. You're acting like Amy set up some terrible thing to happen by returning Metal to Eggman, when, in reality, I doubt it really did anything. If Eggman ever wanted to use Metal, again, he would have found it and repaired it.

But destroying Metal wasn't the point, nor was Metal the problem? The emeralds were the focus of ep1-5. If she, for some reason, somehow gave Eggman all the emeralds, I can see your point, but returning Metal to him is like giving him back his eggmobile.

Because 4 is kinda in this weird limbo where it's trying to be both a successor to classic Sonic while still being modern Sonic, and it's obvious the devs had more planned for the story that will now never see the light of day. It just ends up being this weird little side-path of the franchise that SEGA promptly abandoned and forgot about, before it ever really got going.

It's pretty good, but I might be a bit biased, as I contributed to its kickstarter. It's practically Sonic, but with powers like in a Kirby game. The level design isn't really like Sonic, though, featuring a lot of verticality with wall jumping. It also goes on for a while. I beat Sonic Adventure for the first this morning. The gameplay still holds up decently on minus Big and Amy. I can easily see why they brought shooting and treasure hunting to SA2, though they fucked up the radar hard in SA2.
A nice little touch that they basically re-did all the lines for each shared cutscene depending on what character story you are playing.
Only thing that doesn't stand up at all is the audio and cutscene production values and lip-syncing. Man they are rough, I almost wouldn't mind a remake just for that.

What is everyone's thoughts on the werehog in Sonic Unleashed? Decent? Garbage? Bad concept, good execution, or good concept, bad execution?
I feel like the only real reason I don't get triggered by it as much as everyone else I've seen so far is because I'm a GoW fanboy. My biggest beef with the Werehog is just how boring it is. Concept out of all the "non Sonic gameplays" this series is known for is far more interesting than clunky tank gameplay Gamma/Eggman offered, but execution wise, I wish the combat was just more crunchier like in GoW. Otherwise, it would be pretty solid through and through. And I personally hate Sonic's bad stigma that every level needs to be so short it's baffling to claim in a 3D game to me. I rather have levels that allow me to go at my own pace instead of constantly going into the notion it has to be done within 3-5 mins. That being an argument against the werehog is shitposting to me. I want 3D Sonic to be games like A Hat in Time, Zelda, etc. Something less about Gotta Go Fast, but that I CAN Gotta Go Fast when I feel like it, not forced to. Just my two cents.

Sonic turning into a stretchy wolf thing is stupid. I actually like the design, but the idea is stupid. The gameplay is not good or bad, solely mediocre and the longer stage times make this a drag. It is fine to go through once, but I have zero interest in replaying levels as the only thing that can really carry those is the atmosphere and music which in itself loses points due to the battle theme. I think more emphasis on platforming with the werehog would've been fine as well as trimming the stage lengths a bit if the mindless brawling isn't improved.

Really, my biggest issue with the Werehog was just how long some levels took. I don't mind something that gives the player a break but some of the levels taking around 10-15 minutes made things feel a bit boring imo.
That being said, I didn't mind the combat & battle music aside, the atmosphere was really well done& I loved the Werehog design. At the end of the day it's something that could've used better polish, but it really came around the wrong time considering the state of Sonic when Unleashed released.

With how Sonic Mania got a massive hit by many people, I wonder. Other than "Make the 3D games more like the Crassics" would just that be interesting enough to reform Modern Sonic? Maybe Sonic also needs a visual change? Would Sonic work well with some of the conventions listed in this video? The Kill la Kill example proves it can be done in full 3D as well.
Just think if you had the character look one to one to the Ukawa artstyle, but in a 3D space. After the "pixar" era of Sonic, I feel like this has aged more than less now due to SEGA not making the effort to up it since Unleashed, Generations being the only exception. What do you guys think?

I can't believe it. I figured, though Lost World probably wasn't going to be a great Sonic game, it would probably be a decent game overall, at least. But the game is just outright bad. Controlling Sonic is a challenge in all the wrong ways. The level design ranges from just passable to awful. There are so many spots where it forces you to stop, slow down, and complete some kind of challenge before continuing. And, towards the end, it starts getting to trial and error design. If that wasn't enough, it does awful at teaching you how to do anything in the game. With the exception of two, which are for more bullshit reasons than anything, every single boss fight is ridiculously easy. And then there's the fucking story. The Lost Hex and Zeti just exist without any background at all, the Zeti are all one-dimensional, completely uninteresting villains, Tails is now just a super genius character, with nothing else going for him, every single plot point that tries to do something just falls flat, and Amy and Knuckles might as well not be there, for the fuck all they did. The entire game is a waste of a great soundtrack and cool final boss design. And I want to fuck Zeena.

I didn't find the werehog to be so outright offensive as some other people did (mind you, I unfortunately didn't get to play the HD version yet, so maybe that's a reason), thought it was pretty boring. I think the idea of having a fast Sonic and a slower, more platforming oriented Sonic is a good one, but I think they should have taken a different approach to the level design of the werehog, which felt more like filler than something designed to be fun. The werehog platforming felt rather meaningless, it was too dense and boring most of the time, while the combat was rather frustrating to me because I really wanted to perform cool moves and combos, and while there were a lot of different combat moves, I remember feeling that the simpler I played the better I fared, so there wasn't any incentive to try more complex strategies or moves and get better. I think that describes the werehog pretty well: it didn't really give you any incentives to play it.
I guess there's also that question about whether this type of gameplay is appropriate for a Sonic game even if it was stellar.

Like I said, he was only a fan of the Adventures he that he played back in the day, he disliked Generations quite a lot and I assume he's not big on Classic Sonic since as far as I know he never showed any interest in Mania.

Huh, I said on Christmas after finishing Adventure that I almost wouldn't mind a remake and here's something from the creators now.
Still, I'm not really sure if I'm committed to wanting one, though. Sonic Team and SEGA have reached so many times into the past for core elements or, in the case of Classic Sonic, the character itself of their Sonic games the past 8 years that it makes me yearn for something completely original and new from them.
I also question the current team's ability to pull it off and make it a worthy remake. If they do, though, I still would rather they put their abilities towards a new title.

My guess is that Iizuka probably had a bit of a change of heart. Maybe Forces changed things for him or he sees potential in some of the folks working on Sonic games now to make it happen? It's unlikely we'll see a full-fledged SA1 remake though, unless SEGA wants it.
