I keep forgetting sailor moon crystal exist. Say what you want about dragon ball super. Bad writing aside. It’s still entertaining and giving fans something new. Sailor moon crystal just a bland tone did the story of the manga without the newly added charm of the 90s anime. 90s sailor moon had far more effort. We even got to see the girls wear a new outfit everyday. We got to see 90s teenage Japanese fashion the original anime. Plus 90s sailor moon wasn’t a shame of fan service.

I've always thought a good D&D movie, if also nostalgia-baiting, would be partly a CGI-fest set in a D&D campaign, and partly a down-to-earth documdrama on the Satanic Panic with a bunch of players (same actors as the fantasy characters) at that college where some guy is supposed to have gone missing in the steam tunnels (but was actually under his bed at home the whole time).
A CWC movie could be done a similar way. An animated Sonichu cartoon re-imagining Chris' actual life, which would be portrayed in live-action segments.
Of course it would take a lot of competence to pull both ideas off without it just being a mess.
