As this will be the start of a new volume to typeset, I went and formatted another credits page file (this time with the header centered, roles/names aligned, and the dimensions matching the chapter pages). This is all as one document, using alignment shifts and visibility toggles, and should be easy to swap images in and out, as well as change what side things are on for variety.

Chapter 43 transcript
https://files.catbox.moe/nw432e.txt
That bonenkai TN reminded me of chapter 17's cover page. Maybe we could use it (or a cropped piece, showing Makura, Andira and Pajra partying)

Saved the text to start working on this evening. In the raws’ numbering, is this one ending on p_027 or p_028? Not sure if the reader is intended to be given a breather, or sense of foreboding when they finish. From the look of it, I am going to need p_005 to have the chapter title cleared/redrawn if possible, and the following page pairs stitched/fixed: p_010 and p_011, p_018 and p_019, and p_024 and p_025.

>That bonenkai TN reminded me of chapter 17's cover page. Maybe we could use it (or a cropped piece, showing Makura, Andira and Pajra partying)
Maybe, but the fact there's different things going on with the image, as well as how the outline of Houzan acting to mask the rest of their bodies, strikes me as apt to restrict the size it can crop to, or that it will look off if you get the blank space/other elements in it (such as the gun below them). I'll still give a try, but it might be good to find either a suitable photo, or perhaps a screenshot/crop from another series with a bounenkai going on.

I know, but it's a case where if it's ending on p_028, there's no text on it and thus the transcript makes no note of it (previous page is the last with text). Looking higher in the thread, I guess I'll just go off of >>113586 and have it at the end.

Oh sorry, I didn't understand it then, kek.
Yeah you're correct, p_028 is that chapter's last page.
I'll start noting what are the first and last pages for each chapter to avoid these confusions then. Something I should have started doing before.

p_017 might also need the vertical text cleared. There's just white space behind most of it, but with both faces layered over it bleeding black onto black, I'm not sure how sharp a clearing job I can do myself in as far as trying to maintain the line work quality.

Got most of the typesetting for Chapter 43 finished, though I'm still needing the help mentioned here >>118026 and here >>118125 . Mikado's half-page spergout took a while, but I think it came out pretty well. Definitely going to need to figure something out for p_017 though, and not just in terms of clearing the text out of the big panel. Ideally, I'd want to do something similar, using the faces and border to create a mask to hide the sides of the "Just what are you!?", but it's a lot easier to manage when there's only a single character's-width going down in the Japanese than with multi letter words.

That's the title page for it, yes. Thank you for blanking the subtitle.
Being that we're now in the territory of the in-progress translations being posted here, I may not be able to post the raw pages sometimes (especially if they don't have text to warrant the canvas extension like most of the base translated pages have to not count as duplicates). Seems like this time's alright though.
>p_010 and p_011 stitch/fix
>p_017 needs the black text in the background of the lower panel blanked if possible (issue being that the faces in the foreground bleed over the text). If not, I'll have to find some other way to adequately handle it.
>p_018 and p_019 stitch/fix
>p_024 and p_025 stitch/fix (raws in next post)
Alternatively, the pages are stitched in >>113519 >>113584 and >>113585, but would still require fixing and the additional step of trimming.

The load times are not the problem so much as sifting through to find amendments that relate to a particular image and especially ones related to earlier chapters or when there's multiple things concurrent (not right now but I suspect there will be more TWOMR down the line). It's not so much of a problem though for those who are keeping on top of something and I don't have any suggestions for improving the workflow.
Anyway. For this I opted to give a difference layer too. I can upload them on request. Generally if I have to touch the art in any way I'm working to a very high zoom level where it's easier to make out the shading, and periodically come back out to see if it blends OK, which, question. I know my eyesight's good, and the laptop I use is a tablet (while I use a mouse, go figure) with a decent screen, but how is my perception on that front?
I'll look at the other two tomorrow. they should be doable but will require some degree of redraw since there are parts that do not line up. Nowhere near as awful as that two-page where the shading and dot pattern alignment was no-fucking-go to me.

Translation Notes
Pg04.: Gestalt Collapse: ゲシュタルト崩壊 (geshutaruto houkai), or Gestaltzerfall (german) refers to a type of visual agnosia and is a psychological phenomenon where delays in recognition are observed when a complex shape is stared at for a while as the shape seems to decompose into its constituting parts. With regards to kanji, a study has shown that delays are most significant when the characters are of the same size. The phenomenon was first described and named by C. Faust in 1947 as a symptom of the bilateral region of the parieto-occipital sulcus after a through and through bullet wound of this region. Afterwards, when the subject stared at a truck for a while the truck seemed to decompose into its motor, chassis, driver cab and the person could only focus on one of these parts until he briefly closed his eyes or looked away which reset the shape to the complete truck again.
Pg05.: Fourteenth's book: The title means "Folk Tales" (むかしばなし, mukashibanashi), and the cover image depicts Momotaro, a famous japanese tale of a boy born from a peach found by an old childless couple, floating down a river.
Pg07.: Manzai (漫才): A traditional style in Japanese culture similar to double act comedy or stand-up comedy. Manzai usually involves two performers (manzaishi)—a straight man (tsukkomi) and a funny man (boke)—trading jokes at great speed. Most of the jokes revolve around mutual misunderstandings, double-talk, puns and other verbal gags. Similar in execution to the concepts of "funny man" and "straight man" in double act comedy (e.g. Abbott and Costello), these roles are a very important characteristic of manzai. Boke (ボケ) comes from the verb bokeru (惚ける/呆ける) which carries the meaning of "senility" or "air headed-ness" and is reflected in the boke's tendency for misinterpretation and forgetfulness. The word tsukkomi (突っ込み) refers to the role the second comedian plays in "butting in" and correcting the boke's errors. In performances it is common for the tsukkomi to berate the boke and hit them on the head with a swift smack; one traditional manzai prop often used for this purpose is a pleated paper fan called a harisen (張り扇).

Looks really good, thanks.
Tried achieving a similar effect as the Japanese with the space. I think the font here (Death Valley) works pretty well for it, but there's still the legibility issue I thought it was going to have with being written vertically. Could maybe put a translation note in the gutter above it for clarity as to what is being said, or rearrange the text positioning and font size to better make use of blank space than have it as a centered column (though reducing font size reduces tone).

Interesting. Explains the name of a song in a game I liked. I'd even say it adapts the idea rather well from being a visual thing to auditory too.

Reajusting the words wherever they fit better might be the best way to do it. Keeping it as a straight column seems unfeasible.
TL here. I keep posting everything here out of habit, but I'll keep different projects in their own threads from now on.

A few ideas to try to adapt the effect. Moving it forward and stroking the text certainly make it more legible, but it still loses the aspect where Majira snarling at Mikado feels like it's overriding his own thought. If any one has some other ideas I'll give it a shot, but it may be a case where using the original Japanese text with a note above is going to cut it better visually.
Also, a thought I've been playing with, in regard to the title. Having seen the debate earlier in the thread, I agree that either works out. Majira's certainly got some dinosaur-like characteristics such as the sickle claw that's clearly on display in some panels, as well as being outright visually compared with therapods. At the same, "Evil Dragon" is also apt given his namesake's status as a dragon god (brought up in Chapter 6). Either is simultaneously accurate to Majira, from what it sounds like phonetically read the same in Japanese, and "Evil Dragon" feels quite similar in tone to dinosaur's own Latin meaning ("terrible lizard"), so maybe make a rare case of using both? Even if not, it seems like it could also make for a good opportunity for a translation note on how kanji and what I assume to be homophones work in Japanese for wordplay and such. Just an idea, third image being a possible render.

I think the use of "English furigana" here makes a lot of sense. As you mentioned, the original Japanese was probably trying to play off the connection between "dinosaur" and the kanji that make up the word, so this is a decent English approximation.

Those should be the last two sets of stitches/clears this one needs. Thank you for the help.
Any advice for how to start learning to properly redraw/stitch? Figured I might ask if you're still going to be here for at at least another few minutes.

Second pic looks better.
I wish there was a better way to fit the words in the background, but there doesn't seem to be enough space for it.

I'm not him, and I have no experience with image editing (meant to maybe pirate one and get into it at some point, but never followed through), but a while back I found a couple tutorials on Mangadex.
https://mangadex.org/title/30195/bocchi-sensei-teach-me-scanlation
(chapters on auto-redrawing or some shit start with this one) https://mangadex.org/chapter/589888/1
And here's another tutorial that I bookmarked some time ago. Mostly on typesetting rather than redrawing.

As far as specific suggestions, if you don't know what layers, layer masks, cloning, and selections can do, they are your core, but know what your chosen editor is capable of and be creative. Above all else, practice. I didn't learn anything overnight. Also be persistent. Harder edits will frustrate the hell out of you but trying hard enough usually will usually let you come up with something workable.
Also the thread linked in the banner >>>/animu/102556 has a bunch of useful links too.
>>118438
At a minimum you need something with layering and cloning such as GIMP, but going Photoshop is not a requirement.

Another idea that makes use of the "triangle" of space available, custom centering and a lower font size for (hopefully) added legibility while still working with background/foreground characteristics. Still doesn't feel as "loud" as it maybe ought to be. If not, I can try playing around with other fonts as different ones have different letter widths and default kerning, but there's still the difference of one character width versus up to four minimum ("!?" can well be broken into their own line).
Also tried splitting the line into individual vertical words too just for the sake of it. It does not work; there's just too little white space to adequately lay them out, even at a just smaller font size and have the eye NOT try to read the gibberish they make horizontally.

Alright, thanks for the advise (I've got some base knowledge of most of that, aside from cloning) and resources. I'll look into them some later today, but I'm still not certain as to if anything I can do on those fronts will be adequate, at least for a while.

That's the best one so far. The change in font size is a small compromise to keep the same feel the raw page had.

Might still play around with the arrangement with the font at that size, see if anything else sticks out as both feasible and legible, but for now it's an option to keep.
