Why is everyone afraid Mara, the deva that LARPs as an omnipotent God?

The answer is because it and its followers can harass, torture, and possibly kill you and your loved ones if it does not like what you are doing. That leaves people with two choices, submit to Mara and its evil agenda OR find a way to deal with the evil it sends your way.

Of course, the righteous choice, and the only correct choice in The Lord Inquisitor's opinion, is to find ways to deal with the evil Mara and its cultists send your way. It is pretty damn hard in some cases, so I completely understand why many people 'submit' to Mara.

So how does one deal with Mara's bullshit? First and foremost, do everything in your power to attain Stream Entry and try to convince those in your immediate (and extended if you wish to be extra righteous) family and friends to do the same. This step is important because those who attain Stream Entry attain a "holy aura of protection" and Mara will fuck with you less. Also, it is impossible for you to go to hell as a Stream Enterer, so that is pretty sweet too. If you need proof of this "holy aura", read the story in The Pali Canon about a Mara perishing after it wounded a disciple of the previous Teacher (The Buddha).

Anyway, after that, here is The Lord Inquisitor's personal list of techniques for dealing with Mara's harassment and torture:

I suspect that this evil deva (Mara/Baka/Whatever) that is obsessed with sensuality sometimes injures, kills off, or attempts to kill off storytellers (creators of sensuality) when it does not like the way their stories are going. It does not like the way their stories are going when they start to have too much Buddhist influence or indirectly depict this deva in a bad light. Here are a few storytellers that I suspect suffered repercussions from displeasing this psycho deva, but I'm not going in depth because that would be too long of a post:

- Robert Jordan: killed because of too much Buddhist influence; depicting evil deva in a bad light

- Kentaro Miura: killed because of too much Buddhist influence; depicting evil deva in a bad light

- Stephen King: attempted to kill/injured because of too much Buddhist influence, depicting evil deva in a bad light; mostly applies to The Dark Tower series

- Yoshiaki Kawajiri: no more director jobs because of too much Buddhist influence; depicting evil deva in a bad light; possibly not harmed due to being at least a Stream Winner

Anyway, this deva is definitely crazy so sometimes people get left alone regardless because their work is too entertaining and/or maybe it does not pick up on the fact that they are indirectly pointing out its evil nature.
