Ayyyyy
Keep an eye out, PVM is top tier, but honestly that little Toshiba I have still does a damn good job.
Do note, that my model doesnt support 480p, only 480i.
But it does have S-Video and Component.

I went to look at it the other day. It's too damaged by rainwater to be useful, and we had a storm come by a few days ago, so it's probably busted now.

Not them, but I played some SK on the Wii U on my Megaview and it looked pretty damn good.
What I really want to do is get crt_emudriver going so I can see if I can't get it running in 240p.
The game's "native" resolution is just a widened version of the NES's, so it shouldn't be TOO difficult, right?

Does your monitor work out of the box with rgb?
That would make things a hundred times easier
I am in the process of modding a regular crt tv and hopefully make it take direct rgb from a PC
Will update in a couple weeks with the results of my redneck science experiments

The monitor I'm going to be debugging and getting it up and running on is a Mitsubishi Megaview, so yes. RGB native, and (true) multisync to boot; 15khz up to 85khz sync. One test I want to do is to see if medium resolution stuff works, but that'll come later on.
And careful with RGB modding TVs; I actually fried the final stage amplifier for my Samsung GXTV in probing around inside of it to get ready for modding experiments.
And of course the obvious stuff to avoid getting zapped.

Did you short circuit something?
I'll just hotplug into the RGB signals that are feed to the final amplifier, it seems that the worst that can happen is getting a very dim picture and i will have to do some amplifying or corrections.

That blows man. I'd kill to have an RGB monitor right now. I bought a PVM a long time ago from South FL but it came defective and now it's completely fucked.

Presumably. As far as I've managed to deduce, probing around between the pins to try to get green back(something that went out right when I started working on it) bridged either two of the channels together or just straight up grounded them out, leaving me with a straight bright screen with retrace lines.
That said, it's a lot more difficult to get an RGB mod working by going directly to the final amp. You're better off feeding them into the jungle IC of the TV if possible.

Truth, we had one of these in 2006 because my mom wanted to get a fancy new HDTV. It was no plasma but we weren't paying plasma money, we were paying 'fuck you big TV' money.

Those were blurry as hell. They were labelled "HD ready", just for having an HDMI port. Which on mine broke off, and fucking composite looks about the same quality so noone noticed.

I'm using this for a couple of months now. I like it a lot. S-video is the best it can do, but I'm OK with that. I grew up on RF and composite, so for me it's a great upgrade.
On a side note, does anyone know of a good S-video mechanical switcher or a good DIY guide? I need like 12 inputs or so and the ones I've seen online are a little bit above what I'm willing to pay for and does not have enough inputs.

I'm honestly having a panic attack here bros. I'm not even full CRT autist but I use them relatively frequently. They aren't making CRTS anymore, and people are so quick to offload those "shitty box tvs" at every (((recycling))) event.
I drove by one, didn't know it was happening. Parking lots full of them, ready to be destroyed. I can't stop it and I don't know what to do.

rgb keeps being touted up as the pinnacle of retro image clarity but didn't many games in the snes-ps1 era use dithering in conjunction with encoding blur to shade/texture or simulate transperancy?

Many games used dithering to simulate transparency, increase perceived colours and add pseudo textures. Isn't all this lost on rgb monitors?
"Consumer grade" crts are cheaper, bigger and give you the option for rgb anyway. I don't get the fascination with this

Okay so did more work on this and more yet needs to be done (pretty sure I need to replace the PPU2 and a few probably troublesome capacitors now but I can't get at those without better tools), only thing that bugs me is that I don't know how to turn off the green text at the top-right of the TV what says what input it's displaying atm. Does anyone know how to turn that off without a remote or do I have to specifically source that from somewhere?

Usually Computer CRT monitors are cheap/free on Craigslist and have pretty decent image quality. They usually have an 85hz refresh rate and that might fuck up your lightgun.

Why would you be scared of being seen as a hoarder? obviously you have not asked for anything else beforehand, so, I don't see the problem if its only that one time, and the monitor/tv is worth it,It'll do you goof though knowing if they'll ever allow employees to take shit for themselves before you start dreaming about the next CRT that passes by, maybe offer a couple dollars, if the company pays for kg of electronics trash, or say it's for your grandma if you are autistic and don't want them to know you are into old shit, take it from an actual electronics hoarder (nothing of value just appliances boards) who would dread destroying all that stuff, and adopt the next shining and capable CRT that drops by, give it a good home.
