As much as we’d no doubt shift blame onto others for what happened to this place, it was going to happen sooner or later. It started back when /pol/ was established in the mid 2000s. It couldn’t last forever. Media companies, places like Twitter and Facebook hated everything about this place. It didn’t matter that most of the boards were hobbyist shit, the only thing that took focus was what was perceived to be political extremism and psychosis. I suppose that was true given everything that happened and the state of the website now. They finally got what they needed to put it down and that was that. The clock ran out.
It hurts, but it hurts because the memories remain. We had some fun times here, some of the best discussions I’ve ever had with people were here. Even through all the shitposting, every once in awhile you found a thread that stood as the reasoning behind all of this and why it existed. It was like Kansas or Arizona back in 1880. A wondrous place defined by its people, and crushed by the encroaching machine of civilization. Now whats left is a wasteland full of burnt out husks from an age passed. Gas stations off a desert highway that shuttered their doors a long time ago. At the very least we have the memories. We know how things were, and only we know. That makes me happy. We were the last hold out of the frontier. Its time to say good bye now.
