The reason it's so bad in China is because COVID-19 affects the respiratory system. Most Chinese men are heavy smokers, no joke. 52% of the male population smoke.
Having disease that fucks up your already damaged lungs isn't fun. The virus is nowhere near as bad outside of China because of it.
I'm getting annoyed how much bullshit is being peddled along with the facts. There's no doubt this outbreak will end up being bad, it's already infected more people than Ebola did, but it's not going to be Spanish Flu or Black Death levels of bad.

reminder that more people died from the flu in the 2019-2020 flu season than covid-19. much more.
most of this stuff is hype/hysteria driven by the media. and it's not just the smoking and air pollution issues that exacerbate the illness, it's the quality of the livestock/produce/foodstuffs.
gutter oil and shite conditions for animals/livestock. also the fact that chinese people dont have great hygiene. just like in india and other countries with such large pop'n.
when covid-19 goes from cold/flu to pneumonia. that's when people die. mainly the young or elderly but also people with compromised immune systems. and considering most peoples diet/exercise, im not surprised more people havent died yet from it, not just in china.
