As someone who has experimented with animation… Static pictures aren't all that difficult unless you have to make the rigs and models yourself, but I wouldn't say they arent art, since the camera positioning and the posing of the characters and objects in the scene is a form of art.
If I recall, you have made some SFM assets and published them in the past few years, right?
Animation though? Whole other ball-game, because even if you have all the rigs, you still have to get the physics and framerate right or it'll look like hot garbage. Animation is hard.
