I do not see how Polynesian mythology would make a good theme for a Disney movie. You'd have to remove all the sexual and violent themes, which are all over Polynesian mythology. Next to that you'd have to cram in the usual "hero's journey" crap and other contemporary Hollywood storytelling formulas which completely takes away what makes Polynesian stories so unique.
I hated Disney's Hercules for the same reason. I'll be avoiding this movie, mahu.
