>>147That depends on it, mahu :^)
In some Polynesian and Melanesian tribes the priest has more power than the chieftain, and the chieftain is merely there to organize the tribe and to plan big expensive feasts.
More like a manager I guess :^)
To make you a spokesperson of the gods would give away my power, and in return you would not be allowed to sleep with any women out of my fear that the intellectual/spiritual caste might reproduce and overthrow me as the chieftain. If you do make a child it will be immediately smashed on some sharp rocks, friend. :^)
Also, your training would be very severe, and you're allowed to beat students of the spiritual arts to a bloody pulp if they fail their training.
The Aurioi of Tahiti for example, communicated the message of the gods through singing and dancing, and were in the position to even criticize the chieftain. However, as soon as one of the singers sang out of tune they would get beaten to death by the other singers.
Let's just say it depends on which tribal political caste system I will base our tribe :^)
There's still a lot to be done, we will also need a caste of warriors/assassins to keep our feuds going, and a menstrual hut for the women to bleed and complain in :^)
