So far this hasn't been explained at all yet, only that it is a set of instructions to be used as a final resort.
Anyway we got to discussing what it could possibly entail and here's a quite likely plausible scenario
>Imperium is falling fast. Enemies are closing on all sides and even Rowboat and the Primaris aren't enough to stop them.
>A Grey Knights strike force or multiple strike forces, together with one or more purifiers is chosen to breach the entrance to the Throne Room on Terra by any means necessary.
>The rest of the Grey Knights hold off the Custodes
>The single Purifier approaches the Emperor's corpse and begins a ritual of soul transfer. Then he strikes down the Emperor, destroying His corpse.
>The soul of the Emperor enters the Purifier, being one of the very few humans with enough will not to be utterly consumed (and also holy enough). The Purifier's own soul is sacrificed and annihilated.
>The Emperor walks again.
So why not take possession of a Custodes? Well, remember that the Custodes are his sworn bodyguards, their lives forfeit to protect His own. By that reasoning, they won't kill the Emperor as long as he is alive, no matter His condition. Also, they're probably not pure enough.

Maybe it's humanity's version of the ritual that created Ynnead. Basically elevating the Emperor to a full chaos god of order, possibly at the expense of creating an anti-eye of terror centered on Terra and killing a fuck ton of humans like what the birth of Slaanesh did to the eldar.
>>424401
If that's the case then maybe it's an instruction on how to create another being like the Emperor in the event of the original Emperor truly dying.

When an ultra super marine reads the terminus decree Matt Ward's Anus will open and a gigantic shit will drown galaxy.
Orks will cease to exist.
Tyrannids will now be furry and lovable.
Abbadon will be crowned as the new emperor by the High Lords of Terra as he's actually a secret clone of Horus and thus the legitimate heir of the Imperium.
The Tau will overthrow their ethereal and will be now a truly "star trekkian" utopia and the dominant force of the galaxy.
The eldar will commit ritual suicide by edge in some gruesome way and ascend like the old ones did.
The necrons will now have feelings and personalities (oh wait).
Of course the space marines will survive and now be knights for the greater good fighting the teeming horde of prejudiced humans under Abbadon the golden leading the remnants of the Old Empire that refuse the multi-culti xenos harmony.
In the grim edginess of the future there is only shit.

The Space Wolves becomes cannibalistic crazed hairy killers (oh wait).
The Raven guard just dissolve into warbands and mixes with the Night Lords.
The Dark Angels were heretics from day 1 (oh wait).
The Iron Hands finally stop being confused for the Iron Warriors.
The Iron Fists tried to stop everything but die to a man defending Terra.
The Black Templars are completely faithful to Abbadon as he seem to be a swell guy.

If they knew how to do that they would have done it already. I wouldn’t imagine the Eldar are big fans of having a huge portal where more servants of Slaanesh can come into real space.

The Custodes have been bringing Dark Eldar Haemonculi into the Imperial Palace to try and either fix the golden throne or bring the emperor back to life, since they know a whole bunch about souls and bodily resurrection.

>Basically elevating the Emperor to a full chaos god of order
Isn't that already happening? The growing number of appearances of the Burning Legion and the Living Saints are clearly proof something in the Warp is throwing a wrench in the plans of Chaos. Also, I find it incredibly difficult to believe that trillions upon trillions of humans fanatically praying for 10.000 years with genuine faith would not cause an effect in the Warp, especially when said prayers are directed into a singular, already very potent psyker. And that's not taking into account the millions of pskyers that have been fed into the Astronomicon over the years.
>>424501
What makes you think the Eldar even know how to do it? They have no idea how to fix the Webway, let alone open new paths in it, yet the Emperor did, and the Golden Throne is his own creation.

>The Custodes have been bringing Dark Eldar Haemonculi into the Imperial Palace to try and either fix the golden throne or bring the emperor back to life, since they know a whole bunch about souls and bodily resurrection.
I was under the impression that it wasn't the Custodes, but a conspiracy by a number of High Lords that attempted to bring one Haemonculi into the palace to fix the Throne, only that it got stopped by Crowl and his retinue at the last moment. The Custodes don't come across as stupid enough to pull off such a stunt.
Then again, in the first Inquisition book by Christ Wraight the identity of the third conspirator hadn't been revealed, and a Custodes stomped on the Haemonculi before he could reveal his name, so that made me suspect that it could have been the Custodes - though the next book, the Hollow Mountain, proves that was not the case.

That description mentions a seal found only on the Golden Throne. Could it be related to the Talisman of Seven Hammers that Vulkan forged in one of the later HH novels, that was supposed to be some sort of nuclear dead-man's switch? well im pretty sure that the god Emperor is a perpetual, so if he actually dies he just re spawns somewhere else
but also having the Astronomicon down really, really fucks the imperium
whole sectors become isolated and the fleets in said sectors can't respond to threats
so the imperium just loses its ability to respond to any threats
orks will just have a field day, and chaos and nids
as large roving fleets could just move though planets unopposed
with their victories increasing their strength
>orks stronger bigger boys though the fighting, more boys, more dakka
>nids way more nids and hive ships though having a all you can eat buffet on whole sectors
>chaos more cultists, more imperial tech more warp fucked world
>even T'au would expand more into imperial space now that deathwatch can't show up and beat them up in melee
so if big E somehow got back to Terra the Imperium is already fucked by that point

I'm thinking it may be instructions to turn the golden throne into a massive psychic bomb that just psychically nukes every living thing in the entire galaxy.
Maybe Big E could control it enough to not kill all the humans too, maybe there's a safe room prepared under the palace to leave a couple humans alive and as the final victors.
Only problem being the Necrons, of course.

On that line of thinking it might be instruction for an astronomibomb. Have the light make one tremendous blinding burst in reality, purging the galaxy of daemonic taint. Psykers would likely get forcefully sanctioned at best, fuel the bomb at worst. If it works well enough it might just become a warp star.
It would be interesting to see the effects of such a thing. Terra would be gone, the halves of the planets and moons facing Terra would be burnt clean and/or crystallized in fulgurite. Imperium Nihilus would be reconnected and come back to providence. The Tyrant Star and Bad Moon would have another celestial body to contest with, possibly making a constellation of chaos?
Biggest of all, the apparent but not total fall of man would wake the Old Ones the fuck up. They've been waiting 10k years for the coin flip to flop to either side, and anything involving that doomsday device is a massive middle finger to their planning.

>but also having the Astronomicon down really, really fucks the imperium
Half of it is already fucked and Astronomicon fails from time to time too(in fluff, but everyone forgets that anyway).
>so the imperium just loses its ability to respond to any threats
Basically local forces do everything anyway so it doesnt really change anything. It fucks up global logistics but everyone forgets about that too. Starving is not on a menu because "CHAOS DARK ELDAR ORKS!" are more interesting problems than half of imperium starving. Starvation cant help sell minis.
>orks will just have a field day, and chaos and nids
They are involved in everything but do nothing. Currently its Chaos VS Imperium and the rest are there as extras.
>as large roving fleets could just move though planets unopposed
They do. Supposedly millions of (nameless) worlds are completely fucked. But in terms of named worlds its just Cadia. And they saved everyone from it anyway.
>with their victories increasing their strength
They have anti-psyker and anti-melee variants now. But mostly they just doing nothing, but genestealer cults are a thing again!
>>424501
>they have a monopoly on webway technology
They dont. They knew how to operate it and pretended that they built it, but it was the old ones. Eldar are basically squatters. if you ignore this whole "webway was build with a help from another lovecraftian/chthonic monster, but I am not sure if these books are canon. Its usual "haha, its so contradictory and we are not telling if its truth! So mysterious!" bullshit.
The biggest fuck up in all of this is the fact why Cadia was important. It was the one and only relatively safe passage from Eye of Terror. With its fall there should be no safe ways to leave new Giant Crack. And yet its the opposite, everyone just raiding Imperial worlds because navigation is safer than ever for chaos/dark eldar forces. Even thou webway was also double fucked by all the events. But who cares about old established lore anyway?
Also everyone is hunting for space-oil aka blackstone aka noctilith these days. So dont expect anything unrelated to it.

I can understand having Ahriman being able to use the Webway, he’s been searching for the Black Library for ten thousand years so it would make sense that he’d know his way around. But what I resent is that the Thousand Sons version of Webway strike is exactly the same as the Eldar’s. In previous editions, it would have been a gimped version, or only available if Ahriman was your warlord. But no, 8th edition is all about streamlining.
No unique abilities or clever army builds, just generic reroll auras. Every army plays the same because it’s easier for Johnny, age 5 to understand.
It’s all so tiresome, and your only choices are either play Horus Heresy, which is slowly dying as a game. Or break the battered housewife syndrome that most Warhammer players have with GW and play a different game.

Its not that bad.
>clever builds:
>spam op stuff
>cheese the game by some stupid bullshit
But as result its kind of samey. Balanced armies will deal exactly the same damage to each other. There are still some strategy but "I put my choppy boyz in a metal box and ram it into enemies and than charge with the boyz thus negating overwatch" is pretty much the epitome of strategy beyond "I shoot dangerous guys first". Everything is too mathematically balanced. There are some neat stuff like ability to buy assassins after you see enemy army. Also some stuff is easier to use than the other. As result you can win as tau just by standing still and shooting overwatch while the opponent need to think of a bothersome ways to deal with that. But more stuff is viable but some of it is harder to play than the other.
>8th edition is all about streamlining
Its not a bad thing. All rules are either in 8 page rulebook or on datacards for units or in stratagems. If you use some additional mission stuff its completely on one page.

Yeah. It seems more likely to be some sort final fuck you to chaos. Maybe its some machine or way to overload golden throne/astronamicon to kill every warp sensitive lifeform in galaxy. I have no idea why it would be on gray knights fort because that seems like something you would read after earth has fallen.
Or maybe it's way to release void dragon. That could kickstart new war on heaven, but this time it would be void dragon and nekrons against chaos. That seems more likely because void dragon will most likely still be there after fall of earth and Mars.
But I dont thing it is something that would fix imperium or bring hope of any kind for humanity, rather it would be some kind way to stop chaos/orcs/tyranids from winning.

Could be that the decree is meant as an in case of defeat: kill big E measure.
Killing emps could be a way to extinguish the astronomicon to cause some of the following:
-allow insulated imperial worlds with low psyker activity to live in relative peace in the darkness of space
-deny chaos any corruption of the emperor's body to protect anyone currently in contact with his spirit
-prevent chaos (and possibly the Tyranids as well) any navigation using the astronomicon
-a massive psychic shockwave that kills or blinds most if not all psykers, leaving humanity psykically dull and without a lot of value for chaos forces
-stick the middle finger to chaos one last time

Nids use planets/mass/population to navigate/travel, not astronomican. And chaos just cruises aimlessly(because they are not in hurry anyway) or guided by priests.
>allow insulated imperial worlds with low psyker activity to live in relative peace in the darkness of space
It does not work that way. Also half of galaxy without astronomican is the shitty part. Shit can just eat planet after planet without any help. And the Big Crack aint helping things. Astronomican supposedly keeps sky from screaming at population.
>stick the middle finger to chaos one last time
Chaos dont give a fuck about Imperium. Gods are fighting against each other, chaos space marines in majority fight each other or raid random worlds or just smoke crack and fuck bitches. Only abby meddles around with Lorgar.
>a massive psychic shockwave that kills or blinds most if not all psykers, leaving humanity psykically dull and without a lot of value for chaos forces
Even if true, "less chaotic" chaos space marines (raiders/pirates/renegades) just want slaves and goods and resources. Mor echaotic can attack worlds just for the heck of it.
Most important job for astronomican is logistics of imperium and keeping it afloat. Imperium worlds are not self sufficient. They need stuff from other planets/systems. Without it most of the planets would collapse. No food, no tools, no solders, no weapons, no security. You will be lucky if you had genocidal inquisitor on your planet, because at least you will keep your soul after he orders your execution for not starving to death.
Also god of starvation will fit nicely in 40k. But Malal already fit the profile with "cannibalize everything" and nids also work and fucking ctun are also hungry.

Void Dragon is definitely one of the strongest and one of his shards kicked the Necron's asses and annihilated them for trying to nab him. The Deceiver even avoids him specifically. About the only things that keeps the Void Dragon in check is that if Big E dies then he'll be stuck in the Warp and his apparent fondness for human children. Before Slaanesh they were the balanced beings of a three sided deity. Hope, honor, and acceptance of fate were their good sides. I dare say that before Slaanesh they were forces of good that had in part ordered the Warp after its fall from the Sea of Souls. By rejecting the parasitism of warp beasts they culled and exterminated the greater part of Chaos, in effect seperating themselves from Malice. Slaanesh brings them closer to those dark times, with that infinite succ and obsession with mortals.
